What Atelier game are you playing right now? Which one is your favorite? Are you excited for Sophie 2?
>>
I never played one. The games look like soulless booba/thicca. The character designs do not look that appealing to me. I could be wrong.

Replace 'soulless' with 'soulful' and you got it. Death to flatties, death to p#dofags.

Now, are the games actually good or not? Don't know, never played them because my computer sucks ass.

All Atelier games are on sale on all platforms until October 4th. https://www.gamecity.ne.jp/sale/ Buy them all (and Blue Reflection too) and start with the first game of any subseries that looks appealing to you.
>>
Didn't realize Sophie had almost as much fanart as Ryza, I'm eager to see her next game.

>>2139933
These games have the deepest crafting system out of any JRPG. And they're just very pretty and comfy games with very good visuals and music. No world to save, no big bad to defeat, just low stakes adventures and many character events.
>>
I want to play Ryza because of obvious reasons. Never played any atelier. Can someone please tell me, what the ratio of gameplay to JRPG story like?
I tried Persona 5 and all of the visual novel sections filtered me hard. I don't have the interest or patience when I'm trying to actually play a game.
>>
>>2140821
Persona 5 uses FOMO to force you into doing events here and now (the calendar system), while in Ryza nothing ever expires, all events and quests will wait for you, so you can take in the story at your own pace. If you're getting bored with party member events, you can leave the city and do some dungeon crawling, then go to your atelier and spend 2 hours crafting the best possible gear, then use that gear to beat up some optional bosses etc. So it's a lot more similar to WRPGs in this regard, i.e. you have main quest(s), side quests, character events etc and can do them whenever you feel like.
>>

atelier ryza is on sale do i buy the normal or deluxe edition ?

its looks like deluxe doesn't come with any of the dlc from the steam page tho thats why idk
>>
>>2141091
The deluxe edition is just some cosmetics. The real DLCs are in the season pass.

When in doubt you can always check it on SteamDB:
https://steamdb.info/sub/388809/apps/
https://steamdb.info/sub/409016/apps/
>>
>>2141114

In your opinion is deluxe worth getting then ?
To me is doesn't might just buy vanilla and get the jam packed dlc season pass from a key site
>>
>>2141191
Deluxe is not really worth it but keep in mind that you can't upgrade from standard to deluxe later. If this doesn't trigger your OCD then just get standard.

>What Atelier game are you playing right now?
currently on the last month of rorona DX with all of my flags already finished and not much to do. I can't say I remember it too well but I recall liking the original's difficulty and crafting system more than DX
>Which one is your favorite?
Difficult to answer since they're all good in different ways. For time limit games I would say totori, for the ones without I'd say lydie&suelle. Though I haven't played of the ones before rorona
>Are you excited for Sophie 2?
I can't get excited until we know at least something about it, particularly the crafting. Item rebuild was a mistake so I really hope it stays with ryza.

>What Atelier game are you playing right now?
Started finally playing L&S. Only played for few hours, but I want to bully Lucia. Super fun to tease.
>Which one is your favorite?
Probably Esha & Logy, it's quite rough on the edges but I just loved interaction between protags. But also it was my first Atelier game so I might be a biased.
>Are you excited for Sophie 2?
At the moment I'm more excited for new design, and other characters as well. Especially if NOCO will be lead artist, I really dig her artstyle.
>>
We're probably going to learn more about Sophie 2 in just a few days at Tokyo Game Show.

Also, I guess this new game is the reason they added her outfit to Ryza 2.
>>

>>

I will start getting in the series today, bought the Mysterious DX collection on Switch and finally arrived today, I'm excited to get started on these 3 games, I have Ryza 2 on PS4 but I haven't touched it yet, I'd rather play previous titles before I try that one. Is hard mode on Sophie and the following Mysterious games a good middle point of difficulty and fairness, or is it still too easy? How is Despair mode?

For me, saying materials having voices it meant their properties like color, trails and shapes and not "listening" to them meant cheating on Tetris.
And what's wrong with stuff having voices/souls? Many cultures around the world had that belief.
>>
I started playing mana khemia.
The loop of crafting and upgrading characters is so enjoyable that I'm shocked they haven't tried this again

This is a pretty bad case of a person with a western worldview not understanding other cultures have different values. This is just a fantastical exaggeration of a lot of eastern philosophy that views the world in a less egocentric way.

I have never understood the meme "Dusk is too dark", i have played the trilogy about 4 or 5 times, yes, the lore is better that Arland/Mysterious and maybe Ryza, but that is.
I think Iris and MK1 are more dark, you see wars, people being killed and you killing some baddies, even in MK, a certain character kills one party member on screen.
But yes, i want Dusk 4 for a better closure that Shallie.

I really liked Sophie and Feris but gave up on Ryza halfway.

It feels like they sanded off the unique parts and turned it into a generic jrpg. Is there more to the combat than button mashing? It felt really shallow. In the Mysterious series there was that feeling of making really strong bombs for power scaling rather than pure levels.

I hate Sophie's Atelier 2. disappointed.
What we want is 'Atelier Ryza 3'. Sophie has a small chest, which is a disappointment. 'Ryza' is a tall, sexy kinky woman with big breasts and big buttocks in T-panties and bikinis. Been meaning to get some Atelier games on Steam since I'll probably never go back to my Vita now, where I bought all of Arland and probably some other stuff (I even have a much more powerful Vita-like PC these days, though not a Deck). There's this sale going on, but 25% off seems kind of mediocre, what chance is there that there will be a bigger sale on Ateliers in the next few months? It seems that they're often not on sale during the big Steam sales, and SteamDB only shows their sale price cut getting smaller and smaller.
Planning to get Arland Trilogy (to finish it) and Mysterious Trilogy, maybe Lulua if it's good.

It's 44% off if you buy the bundles which you should.

You can play it at any resolution you want. There is no v-sync option in the settings, but maybe in the ini-file. I think it is applied by default as I don't get screen tearing. Framerate is uncapped as far as I know.
>>
>>2155013
You can set any resolution you want but it only upscales the game without changing how it's rendered. The ini file is completely barren and only changes what's in the startup setting. I don't get screen tears, I just want to eliminate stuttering since my monitor is always set to 144fps and it's a pain to change it every time I want to play a game.

Dusk is my favorite Atelier series. The somewhat bleak, decaying world of Dusk sets the series apart. Great cast of characters with appealing designs. There is any game avaliable in english, be it official localization or fan patches, on PSP, DS or any older console... with a crafting of similar level of complexity as Atelier? All I managed to find is the old and boring item A + Item B = Item C.
Even the older Atelier games I've played give you some extra customization options during crafting.

Why did you start with Arland if you don't mind elaborating? It's considered the most hardcore arc. Dusk games are much more lenient, and Mysterious and Ryza are basically casual (unless you play on very hard or charismatic).

Of course, the games are still great fun, once you get into them.

No, non-DX Sophie was the first Atelier PC port.

IIRC it was:
Sophie -> the rest of the Mysterious games -> Arland trilogy -> Lulua -> Ryza -> Dusk trilogy -> Ryza 2 -> Mysterious DX trilogy.
>>
>>2158069
I meant chronological from the ps3 days. I always saw them back in the day but never got them until now.
>>
>>2158072
Yeah, chronologically Rorona is the first modern Atelier game.

Arland -> Dusk -> Mysterious -> Lulua (Arland 4) -> Secret (Ryza 1/2) -> Sophie 2 (Mysterious 4)

>non-DX Sophie was the first Atelier PC
Weird how that port is "okay", while some of the newer ports were broken
>>
>>2158132
Actually, the quality of Gust's ports is a bit exaggerated, they're mostly fine.
- Arland trilogy + Ayesha are running on a very old PS3 era engine, hence the 1080p resolution lock + menu stutter (only on low end PCs). The 1080p resolution lock can be removed using this mod >>2155087
- Shallie has an issue with displaying shadows on some PC configurations. If the shadows are not showing up for you then this fan fix should help:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1152320/discussions/0/3830828948524145256/
- Escha & Logy had issues with shadow rendering and save data loss. I believe both have been fixed in an official update. It should be fine now.
- Lulua, Ryza 1/2 and Mysterious DX trilogy are excellent ports with the only nitpick being subpar mouse + keyboard controls (just use a controller bro)

Basically only PS3 era ports have problems (due to the old tech used, aka PhyreEngine), and there are solutions for them. Also, the menu stutter in Arland trilogy and Ayesha is a non-issue on modern PCs but it's a problem on PS4 and Switch. The text rendering code was optimized specifically for PS3's Cell architecture and that's why it can stutter on other platforms.
>>
I beat sophie years ago but I don't remember the plot
>>
How do the ports play on lower-end hardware? I've got a handheld PC with Intel 1165G7, 18-25W, Xe 96 EUs. Neptunia Re;birth ports hit the 60fps limit at 1600p just fine, but then those are Vita ports...

Bye bye, mama.

Beat Ryza 2.

Definitely a huge improvement over the first game in pretty much all areas except for maybe the main plot (first game had actual character growth, but here everyone just fucks around until whoops final dungeon time here's an excuse). But the sequel has actual party member events (maybe even a bit too many), almost all dialog is voiced aside from like 3 minor quest chains, and the combat is much better. Plus the game just has way more content, looks a lot better and there are cool gameplay additions like swimming and a mount for you to ride.

It's just... what's up with the difficulty? I played on Hard (highest difficulty pre-NG+) and I first tried the final boss with MID-GAME GEAR and bombs. I basically crafted gear only like 2-3 times, just made sure to be autistic about it and turns out I could safely skip all the final upgrade tiers. Also stacking 3 bombs in a single explosion (four star aurora) is way too OP, deals like 30k damage easily.

Is the post-game DLC worth playing?
>>
>>2161112
I did some googling and apparently the rose bomb is bugged and does roughly 30x as much damage, hence me 1-2 shotting everything with it. Oof. And turns out this bug was never fixed.

Don't use rose bombs everyone.

It's funny that everything is returning to Sophie since it was the first Atelier game I downloaded years ago, I only clicked new game and played a session of 2 hours though, had too many games to play around the same timeframe so I slowly forgot to continue, though I did revisit to the franchise eventually and played Arland+Ryza.

I was about to ask if this is technically Atelier Sophie 3 because I saw many screenshots of Lydie and Suelle featuring Sophie but then I saw this post >>2150591
I guess they didn't want to raise the entry barrier too much for newcomers/fans of Sophie to enjoy the new game? I haven't played the Mysterious games yet but I liked how Lulua was like a culmination of Arland, it seems like Sophie 2 isn't aiming for the same thing.

I recently beat Ryza 2, and I sort of agree with your assessment. What I think didn't work was that they tried too hard to add new systems that just don't really make sense, they don't add anything to the game, they were added just for the sake of having new systems to grind.

Skills tree? Useless gimmick. Essences? Useless gimmick. Gathering tool levels? Useless gimmick. EV links? Useless gimmick. Mission bulletin board? Useless gimmick. Leveling up merchant items? Useless gimmick.

And so on.

I'm a Ryza newfag playing through Sophie DX right now. The game feels a lot more soulful than Ryza, and the character models are insanely detailed. Enjoying it a lot.

But it's definitely a more niche game, with the story being almost entirely slice-of-life (all scenes are fully voiced though) with no antagonistic characters (at least so far), and the dungeon crawling and combat are a lot more simplistic. There are also some non-mainstream quirks like the game showing religion (basically Christianity) in a positive light, which is really rare these days.
>>
>>2167457
nearly all the other games in the series (from Rorona onwards) are more like Sophie than Ryza, with a focus on slice-of-life antics and stories about the characters' personal growth or mission rather than a quest to save the world from looming destruction. Ryza tried to do something a bit different with the series and while I appreciate Gust trying to try new things it's still my least favorite Atelier. On the other hand I believe Ryza is the best selling Atelier game of all time, selling as many copies as the three Mysterious games combined, so clearly the more mainstream RPG formula they tried in Ryza resonated more with gamers.

I like the "secret" effect tiers that essences unlock

>>
>>2169223
Nah. Only the also translated ps2 games, that weren't really Atelier anymore. As in, they were more typical jrpgs. And as such had typical male MCs. The actual Atelier games with the usual gameplay style generally all have a female protag. Logy was also just tacked on, because of TK. That was the time Gust was bought, and TK tried to get Warrior fans into Atelier for whatever reason. Escha and Logy is all over the place for that reason. It also got an anime for that reason.

I'm actually still surprised Gust managed to get them to fuck off so fast.
>>
>>2171037
I see Iris and Mana Khemia as a different franchise from the Atelier we know t-b-h, oldfags really like jerking off those games saying that Atelier should return to that mold, I guess it's a result of the Salburg games not making it here at the time.

just quick off the top of my head there is keithgriff from dusk and one of the guys who gives Firis a letter of recommendation. You're correct that there are very few overall, at least with names. Firis probably has some more nameless npcs in the final town if you want to count that
>>
New Sophie 2 interview makes it sound like Firis and L&S characters might show up after all

https://www.frontlinejp.net/2021/10/10/why-sophie-2-atelier-sophie-2-developer-interview/

>emphasize that the game takes place in a dream world where there is no clear relation to time.
>While time in the real world is one-way, that is not the case for the dream world, and so the people there come from all over.
>things that happen to Sophie and the other characters in this world result in things happening in the past and future of the Mysterious series world

Sounds like the whole game might be something like the Rorona epilogue with Totori and Meruru.
>>
>>2171123

Depends on the game
You can craft stronger bombs
You can craft healing items which auto revive your entire party and heal them to max
You can craft bombs which erase enemy turns
You can craft healing items that give you infinite turns
You can craft equipment that reverses damage and healing so that enemy attacks give you HP
You can craft weapons that let you kill the boss in one hit

Just make better equipment. If you're playing Sophie then traits are the most important. Good traits can give you way higher stats (like 5-10x the base gear stats, no joke) and shit like 20% hp regen per turn.

Assuming you're really playing Sophie, make sure to stay in the defensive stance and spam your strongest attacks like Lightning Bombs. Also, Julio is insanely strong, make sure he's your tank.

They will be making more weapons and armor when you unlock more ingot/cloth tiers, but yeah it's all about traits. E.g. you can craft an armor that has the base defense score of 6, but it will be 35 with traits lol, same armor, same quality level, just different traits. Experiment with all those HP MP ATK SPD DEF etc traits, plus there's Mutated Material (+10 DEF, 10% hp regen each turn) which is great early on and can also be put on accessories for even more hp regen since the effect stacks.

And don't you make fun of Leon, she's based.

Totori isn't really jank compared to Rorona, it's just that you lose a lot of QOL stuff like the text log.

Firis is jank because it was their first real next gen title and they decided to do new shit and made a big "open world" but kind of fumbled it really hard. Once you unlock weapon and armor enhancements (basically the same mechanic as Dennis in Ryza 2) the game gets kinda easy. I also bought an OP accessory from Tess (+17 to ATD/DEF/SPD) from Tess with vouchers (you get those for completing every objective in "group" requests).

Haven't had much time to play Rorona recently but I'm back. I have a question, what's the best way to recover MP? Also, is there a camera mod that let's me look around things?
>>
>>2173874
>is there a camera mod that let's me look around things?
Yes, there is. But it's more for taking panty shots and the like, the game wasn't designed with a free camera in mind.
https://ayuanx.wordpress.com/2018/12/24/atelier-rorona-camera-tweak/
>>
>>2173874
You could pass time sleeping or work it so that you travel on the map a bit to recover MP
Later you can dupe recovery items
>>
>>2173874
The laziest way is to buy the healing food items from iskel whenever you get low. I'd recommend only using 1 of the 2 uses and then turning in the other half for quests later. Once you unlock registering you can make your own with effect boosting and cost reduction; though you should be able to manage with just iskel's stuff. If you do want to make one I'd recommend mind water.
>>
>>2173946
Is this safe to use?
>>
>>2174132
What do you mean? It's not an online shooter, there's no anti-cheat or anything lol.
>>
>>2174132
>Is this safe to use?
No, Gust will use your likeness to create the next Atelier protagonist.
>>
>>2174172
not that anon but I followed one of the related links at the bottom to a meruru camera patch and the download got blocked by windows defender so I'm a little concerned
>>
>>2174201
Windows Defender tends to overreach, the mod should be safe. This guy makes a lot of camera mods for various JRPGs on Steam, why would he be seeding them with viruses?

Also, the mod is technically intercepting the game and altering stuff in memory in order to control the camera, some AV programs might consider this behavior to be malicious and try to block it. In this case you'll have to whitelist it.

So THIS is Plachta's weapon? Wow.

Anyhow, is Plachta/Julio/Monika a good party? Monika seems to be the weakest so far, should I swap her out for Harol? Also, I'm kinda getting confused by all the different cauldrons, which one should I be using normally? The time limit one seems BS. And one more thing, is gifting items to NPCs important and should I just look up a guide for that?

So that's why Pamela is in so many Atelier games.

I guess this means that all of the games take place in the same world, just centuries apart or something? Except for maybe Dusk because Pamela apparently doesn't make an appearance in that arc.

Yeah, the anime OP in Sophie is very beautiful.

And to be honest, Sophie's in-game models are also prettier than Ryza's. Ryza's models have this plastic look to them, maybe it's just the excessive shaders, I don't know.
>>
>>2176171
It's more about how they decided to adapt the artist's design philosophy I think, Sophie has many textured shapes and striking colors making it look more cartoon, Ryza is more warm-looking because they were going for the image of summer.
Both are anime but different kinds, I think Ryza was aiming to look more in the zone of stuff like Violet Evergaden.
>>
>>2176110
Me too, but I assume anime OP isn't cheap so I wouldn't count it.
And I'm okay with not getting anime OP if budget will go in other more important parts.

Just finished Atelier Sophie, took me about 55 hours, all character events. Got a bit carried away with alchemy and the final boss wasn't able to even scratch me. Kinda ruined the moment but oh well.

Overall, it's a pretty good game, I loved character interactions and alchemy, the music was really comfy too (especially the doll making song), I just wish the fields and dungeons were bigger, they're way too small. But I heard Firis fixes this exact issue so that one should be even more fun.

Are the post-game and DLC dungeon worth playing? Or do they require even better stats than in this screenshot?

Julio is insane, he has like 100 more defense than everyone else and his attacks are strong too. You can easily push him to 500-ish defense in end game and he will never die unless cursed or something.

But if you're going with an all female party then consider remaking Plachta into a tank. The new bodies are all marked as ??? at first but you can see their stats when choosing (might need to press X first to see exact stat bonuses on the right). There's a body type towards the bottom of the list that has high defense.

Apart from that, Leon is excellent for debuffing bosses and Corneria can use items indefinitely (in exchange for MP), if you make a good Breezy Aroma and make her use that every turn you're essentially invincible as that's a party wide HP/MP recovery item.

>>
Any good tearjerkers in the series?
>>
>>2192757
The time limits in the older Atelier games are very generous.
>>
>>2192757
Time limit is mostly notable on the first three Arland games (and the older stuff like Salburg I guess) but it only feels a bit harsh in Totori since it's technically the oldest Arland game (Rorona has a remake which is good to warm you up for Totori), by the Dusk trilogy the system is more lenient and eventually phased out.
Overall I would say to pick any of the modern trilogies/quadrilogies, Arland has a small bump but it's not a dealbreaker, Sophie 2 is on the horizon so that's a decent reason to start the Mysterious trilogy too.

Is there any good guide or at least some solid advice for Firis? The time limit is killing my will to continue. It's a huge open world game and you're asked to complete some rather vague goals with little direction, before you run out of time and all your progress gets reset. The time limit advances in real-time just by walking around, and crafting most things eats up a whole day.

I find myself just ignoring most/all side quests, enemies and optional paths, as well as not even crafting anything, and as a result I'm just not having any fun at all.

I feel like I'm either following a good guide that tells me exactly what to do and where to go, so that I don't end up with a softlocked save 15 hours in, or I just drop the game here and now. It's too stressful and ramps up my anxiety like nothing else.
>>
>>2192943
It's beyond generous. I had like 100 spare days, even after exploring to gather each node at least once to know where to find mats. Rush to the water city to get the major timesink of the chapter out of the way.
Avoiding fights for the most part is fine.
>>
>>2192963
>It's beyond generous
Is it though? The first area alone spams you with recipe ideas and what not, and crafting them just once would eat like 10 days, and that's not accounting for the recipe proficiency system which is just retarded. And I already know that you need at least 60 days saved up for the boat thing, picked that up while googling for a complete guide (which sadly doesn't seem to exist because the game bombed).

How do you play this properly? Do you craft? Do you fight? Do you explore each area fully? Do you do any side quests, like an NPC asking for an item (which I'm assuming might unlock some recipe that could be essential later on)? The lack of fast travel is yet another thing that makes the time limit even more daunting in an open world game with such massive locations.

I'm just completely lost.
>>
>>2192943
The time limit is pure nonsense and might as well not exist.

>>2192986
You can do everything and also go back and forth a million times and still have more than enough time left.

I know precisely how you feel because it's what happened to me in my first playthrough, I ended up rushing through the early parts and ended up reaching the goal with over 200 days left. Instead of doing the test I went back and forth to do all the side content I passed over including getting every single recommendation letter and still had 90 days left after it was all done.

That being said don't bother going too in-depth into the alchemy because what they give you before the test is trash. Everything up to there is basically the tutorial and the real game doesn't start until it's over, and there's no time limit after it. Just rushing the stupid first half is totally feasible too. In any case, yeah, the time limit is absolutely a non-factor.

And the game gets way better after the test FYI.
>>
Ok, finished Sophie, Ryza 1 and 2, Rorona and Annie (I absolutely hated that last one), these Atelier games almost hits the spot for my crafting autism but I want something a little more detailed.
Which one has the most complex alchemy in the franchise? and outside of alchemy, which one is the most complex overall?
>>
>>2193015
To be honest, I might just skip to L&S. This game is too confusing and infuriating. I can't find any materials I need for the quests because the world is too large and simply fooling around is not an option because of the dumb ass time limit and there are no guides because the game fucking sucked and no one played it.

Like where the hell do I find (metal) for the pick axe and the windmill quest? Is it even possible to make ingots from tons of ore chunks I have already? Who the fuck knows, this game explains jack shit and advances time by a whole day if you just walk past 5 trees. You're literally being punished for trying to learn the game.

Atelier Skyrim with vague as fuck goals and a harsh time limit was a truly horrible idea, what were they thinking. I'm just appalled by how bad this game is. And that's not to mention the really terrible characters with some of the whiniest voices to ever appear in a JRPG. And the writing is not charming at all, feels like they changed the writer after Sophie.

Restarted Firis with a different mindset (do a little bit of everything but don't spend too much time on one thing) and now I'm doing a LOT better.

Also grinded like crazy in the tutorial area because those 30 days are free time. Had the ingot recipe in hand the moment I stepped out of Ertona. Now I can make all those things requiring metal. Also made tons of bombs and stocked up on ore. Now I'm just strolling around and bombing the fuck out of everything lol.

Just go the port and do it, you can get one recommendation letter there and there are two more on the other side.

The exam has two tough fights that you don’t have to win but you can’t redo them so just keep that in mind, otherwise there’s nothing to worry about in the first half of the game at all. Once you know the way to the goal you can just dick around doing whatever until time is up.
>>
>>2196364
The pre-boat letters are boring while the post-boat ones have more interesting characters (desert guy also becomes a bit rekevant to the story much later) so you might want to do them regardless.
>>
>>2196364
On my playthrough I went down tot he forest first, went to the port, but had to go back tot he woods to get material for the boat. So I guess go to the port first then do the letter down there while getting the materials you need.
>>
>>2196364
Best to go the port and get the boat quest before backtracking and doing other stuff while working on the boat. One of the biggest problems woth Firis is the stupid boat quest, especially if you don’t have the furniture to expand your inventory.

The boat is the absolute bottom point of the curve though, it only gets better after.

Alright, got to the port city. The layout sucks cock, spent like 3 days running all over the place before finding Mea and Ren.

Are there any party members I should be looking out for? So far I've got Revy and Heintz. Also, I don't really get this "everyone protect Firis" mechanic. Does it mean that Firis will NEVER take damage if any other party member is still standing? So there's no point in giving her good armor? At least DEF wise?

Okay, I take my words back. This moment wouldn't have been ANYWHERE as awesome if there was no time limit. Beating the time limit by this much while synthesizing this monstrosity felt amazing.

Now I understand where the "Firis is cute today too" meme came from. That's what Liane says in the morning.

But seriously though, how come the customization here is so much better than in Ryza? There are like 15 high quality outfits for Firis + 3 for each other party member, and there are no recolors at all. And many outfits are unlocked in story events, no need to pre-order super ultimate edition or whatever.

Ryza 1 was especially low budget with half of the game being unvoiced while all these older games seem to be 100% voiced.

Are my stats good enough for the Sophie fight? Or is it really autistic and I need to grind to lvl 25-30 and farm end game-ish traits?

I don't have Blitz Stones, planning on using Bottled Misfortune + Blau Bombs + Puni Jelly I guess. All items are several hundreds worth of quality because of the distilled water meme. Will probably drop the difficulty down to Easy for this fight (don't think it affects the achievement).

Any obvious improvements that don't need hours of farming?

Maaan, Firis' post-exam half of the game is really aimless. I was expecting something awesome to happen now that the time limit is gone and you can go anywhere, but all that does happen is, you get Sophie & Plachta as party members and you can craft vehicles such as the flying broomstick and the bulldozer. There's no big goal, you just do character events which seems pointless. The open world nature really hurt the narrative, Oskar is standing right next to Sophie in the atelier and she's yet to react. Everything is self-contained and kinda half-assed, the whole thing feels like a grindy side quest simulator (you literally have 50 side quests active at all times which makes the quest log utterly worthless). The writing is also less believable than the other Atelier games and many characters are reduced to one single quirk.

I'll move on to Lydie & Suelle for now, will maybe come back to Firis in the future.

I can see that you don't like to craft shit.
Make the best you can of every ingot and cloth, especially the last tier of both. Start with the lowest tier of weapon/armor putting the best ingot or cloth in the corresponding slot rushing to the next tier, repeat until the last tier and you will have something like 20 items to put in the last tier of the weapon/armor, only put the best ingot or cloth ultil you craft the the item, and how you started with the first tier, the item crafted will have low lvl so remade it to finish it. Now are ready for the dlc dun and the final boss will be a joke.

Played a bit of Lydie & Suelle, and yeah, this definitely feels like the most polished game out of the 3. Basically like an expanded HD version of Sophie, no open world shit, no time limits, no LP, no recipe proficiency. There's a handy town map where do you events (and there are notification icons like in Ryza, no need to check on NPCs every day) + various gathering fields that you can instantly teleport to/from at any time. The locations are about mid-sized (aka normal sized), not as gigantic as in Firis.

Is it true that many fans consider this to be pretty much the end all be all Atelier game? Is it really that amazing? Technology and QoL wise this does seem to be on par with Ryza 2. Very pretty and no annoyances or obvious shortcomings. You really need to be into ojousama lolis though but eh.

There are a few melancholic areas in Sophie but probably nothing like Dusk (haven't played that arc myself yet). For example there's an area ravaged by an irresponsible use of alchemy, various abandoned places with ghosts and demons, as well as a creepy dream world. Firis onwards is very colorful and upbeat though.
>>
>>2205237
No, most Atelier fans consider Meruru or Ayesha to be the pinnacle of Atelier.
>>
>>2205504

>>
>>2205488
From Gust, Blue Reflection/Blue Reflection Second Light, kinda?
In Atelier what you described is pretty much the trademark of the Dusk trilogy, waiting for a fourth Dusk game is not unreasonable considering that Sophie 2 is going to become a thing and they already announced interest about doing more sequels (>>2151719)
>>
why did they make so many Atelier games in the last decade?
>>
>>2205237
I'd say it's the best of the games without a time limit but I feel like a time limit generally improves the flow of the game, even if there are a lot of people who hate it on principle.

The main argument against free time is grinding, right? Like, without a time limit you can craft as much as you want, so the game is either easy as fuck (see Ryza 1/2), or requires considerable grinding/farming (see Firis post-exam). Is that right?

Personally, I just don't like the stress and the possibility of my 20+ hour playthrough being erased. Hopefully they'll think of some better way to manage difficulty.
>>
>>2205860
not specifically grinding but being efficient in general. When you can't just go farm up more material whenever you want then even simple material choices are more meaningful. It definitely leads to a lot of saving before doing something to learn about it then reload and keeping a lot of old save files in case you made a mistake a while back and need to fix it. Which are both things I can certainly see why people wouldn't like but I feel are perfectly fine.
>Personally, I just don't like the stress and the possibility of my 20+ hour playthrough being erased.
while something to worry about, I believe that just getting to the normal end is generally pretty trivial and you only really need to worry if you're going for a true ending. And even then if you fail you carry a bunch of stuff over to ng+ and you can skip all of the dialogue you've already read so it doesn't take as long as it would seem to go through again.

Man this game is lewd as heck, I get Ryza's superficial horny appeal made people call this the atelier game for coomers but I seriously find myself getting more boners playing Sophie than I ever did with Ryzas games, the wider range of body types here is doing it for me.

The game overall seems a lot more lighthearted and comedy centric compared to any other Atelier game I've played. But it works well with this almost shoujo-like setting.

But I think I'll put my L&S playthrough on hold and go back and finish Firis' post-exam half. Old characters are starting to show up and I'm afraid of running into spoilers. Heard there was a character named "Alt" who's apparently a huge spoiler for Firis.

Kind of inconsistent, Lulua is the fourth Arland game even though yeah, it's more in line with the Mysterious trilogy in terms of gameplay.
You can enjoy the game purely for gameplay (it's the last game before they went into the new Ryza system) but lack of context/attachment will hurt your enjoyment of most events.

Yeah, they screwed the pooch there. If they hadn't revised everything in Shallie+ it would've still been blatantly unfinished, but they could've made a fourth game later to resolve things properly. But instead Shallie+ was made as a half-measure to try and hastily resolve everything so now the only thing left for a fourth game to follow is Wilbell not being satisfied with only three spirits.
>>

The skill tree was good in letting you unlock a bunch of stuff in the order of your choosing early on, but the problem was you completed it way, way too early. Should've been double the size that it was.
I'm pretty sure the gathering tool levels were in previous games, and the mission board definitely was.
Merchant levels would've been more useful if it wasn't so easy to raise quality through crafting still.
