Total block meltdown
>>
All ports are based on something.
>>
>>9935942
It's the most faithful port, but due to performance issues it's about tied with the Saturn port which loses points for not using the same engine.
Better than Duke Shitstyfour, that's for sure.
>>
>>9936487
Seething sharturn troon
>>
it has cool music i guess
>>
is it 8 blocks per save? That would make about 530kb. A single save file in the DOS version is about 256kb
>>
>>9936487
but duke shitstyfour is the one Randy keeps praising every time he opens his mouth, it must be good then
>>
>>9936548
it's 5 through 8 blocks
it "depends" on the stage and.. other stuff i dont know what. my guess is for ps1 to have near emulation level "save stating" was big deal at the time as you can save ANYWHERE like on pc version
>>
>>9936557
That probably makes sense then, the size would vary depending on the size of the stage and the amount of objects to save. In the PC version a savefile actually contains the entire level + all the sprites (and other misc info), it is probably the same here
>>
>>9935942
>is this port based or not?
Its a more accurate port than the N64 version but the controls are awful and not customizable. Is there a romhack or something with better controls?

Also the bonus episode in this version is exclusive to this version, so its worth at least one play through.
>>
>>9936626
By "more accurate" you mean doesn't have true 3D renderer, has awful performance, looks like shit and doesn't have cool 3D polygon effects and no split screen mp? Then yeah sure it's more accurate.
>>
>>9936626
>Is there a romhack or something with better controls?
Fucking why just play Duke3D you retard
>>
>>9936626
>Is there a romhack or something with better controls?
you can rebind them on emulator similar to how you'd normally play on dosbox, granted if you played with keyboard only controls, make sure you select DOOMED control scheme. only bummer is weapon switching still gonna be slow and some ps1 "quirks" still there like you "supposed to know" that L2 and then circle and x to scroll through inventory and use items. L2 in general seems like "wild card" button that unlocks other things like vertical axis look
>>
>>9936495
??? No.
>>
>>9936637
Dookie 64 isn't even the same fucking game.
>>
Flawed port but has the 2nd best episode of all D3D releases. Luckily some madman backported it to the the sourceport. had this had a PC release it would've been arguably the best episode made for OG duke.
>>
>>9936637
I mean that the PS1 version of Dick Kickem 3D is more accurate than Duke 64 because the PS1 version actually has a sky image and music. Try actually playing the games before you post.

>>9936648
What if I want to play the exclusive exta episode the way the developers intended as opposed to some shoddy fan pc port of it?

>>9936673
Thanks for the real answer fren.
>>
>>9936487
Duke 64 is a port of the Build engine with 3D rendering. It's quite remarkable actually. Sure they changed a lot of stuff (some of the map edits are an improvement desu) but it's still a port of the Build engine. You know there's an EDuke32-based source port that can play the game reading just the N64 ROM without duke3d.grp? (Rednukem)
>>
>>9937365
Plug N Pray is the worst episode every made.
>>
>>9937382
>What if I want to play the exclusive dogshit doomworld wad tier exta episode the way the developers intended on this gimped dogshit console port because autism
Hey if you like eating shit then feel free. Don't t be surprised when you get clowned on
>>
>>9937623
>gets proven wrong
>builds new stawman using his personal opinion as the foundation
>something about doomworld (in a duke thread)
>if you dont agree with my opinion you just LIKE TO EAT SHIT!

meh. weak bait 2/10
Also, not an argument.
>>
>>9937791
You proved me right be admitting you have shit taste
>>
>>9937382
yeah i personally rebind L1 and R1 for strafing to A and D for that modern wasd feeling. then i use numpad keys as my "mouse simulation" where i bind turning to be num4 and num6, then fire num8 and use num5. sometimes games have alt fire such as Disruptor and Blood, then i bind alt fire to num5 and use to be num2. been playing keyboard only dos fps games for years now in such way, so those ps1 exclusive games like Disruptor or Duke dont scare me anymore
>>
>>9937802
Your personal opinion is still not an argument.

Instead of refering to doomworld while talking about a duke nukem game and projecting your own insecurities onto others, why don't you actually give us some reasons why you think the episode is bad?
>>
>>9937536
Better than duke it out in DC.
>>
>>9935942
The PS1 version of Duke Nukem 3D sucks ass. The framerate is shit and its super blurry for some reason. Porting the BUILD Engine to the PS1 was a mistake.

Play the Saturn port if you're desperate for dook on a 32 bit console. People whine that it's not the same engine, but it runs significantly better and Duke actually has some weight and momentum to his movement which feels really nice.

Your best bet is to just play it on the PC though. The Vita port is pretty good if you hate KBAM or something.
>>
>>9938157
yeah i hate mouse in dos games, how could you tell
>>
>>9935942
What, because it saves to the memory card? Based on fucking what, anyway, the Build engine?
>>
>>9935942
if you want duke on the ps1 you should play time to kill and land of the babes
>>
>>9938183
DOS games had mouse support you zoomer.
>>
>>9936898
so?
>>
>>9936487
Saying you didn’t like 64 is the easiest way to tell me you didn’t have friends
>>
>>9938183
Fucking retard
>>
>>9937365
The port is a steaming pile of shit.
>>
>>9937365
>had this had a PC release it would've been arguably the best episode made for OG duke.

Nah, it had some good ideas, but level design is really random. Outside of the fact that the levels had interesting and consistant theming, they just feel like slightly above average 1996/97 usermap quality, the layouts are senseless, thoughtless (whatever came through the mapper's mind as he was making shit up with no planning) and the level of detail is low.
It's got nothing on Sunstorm's add-ons. But at least it's probably better than Nuclear Winter.
>>
>>9935942
This was the version of Duke3d I played as a kid. The controls were awkward and the graphics sucked, and laser mine traps were bullshit because the lasers wouldn't render until you were inches away. The new soundtrack absolutely kicked ass though, and I always use it when playing on eduke now.
>>
>>9936487
N64 version kicksass
>>
>>9937623
You sound upset,
