There's no such thing as "Y2K style".
Just say you want a Dreamcast thread, you faggot.
>>
>>9749745
>There's no such thing as "Y2K style".
Would you kindly elaborate instead of just screaming random bullshit like this?
>>
michael jackson is in space channel 5, so saying the scream music video with him and janet jackson counts
>>
>>9749749
Which "Y2K style" do you refer to? The style where people whipped themselves into a frenzy over a non-existent computer bug?
>>
>>9749745
But it's not necessarily restricted to the Dreamcast. It's true Dreamcast had a lot of games in this style though. Plus it goes beyond gaming.
>>
>>9749764
What the fuck are you even talking about? What about the y2k bug (which absolutely was a real thing btw you fucking retard) is about style, or "aesthetics" as the kids call it?
>>
>>9749771
it's just used as an informal term for distinct art styles that were popular around this time
>>
Crazy Taxi
Ace Combat 3
SSX and Tricky
Rez
Zone of the Enders

I just heard about dee lite suing Sega and losing, it cost her $400,000 and cost her a promising career. Ugh.
>>

>promising career
I think they made shitty music desu, based sega
>>
>>9750068
>cost her
Deee-Lite was a group, not a person.

It was Lady Miss Kier of Deee-Lite who sued Sega for using her likeness after she rejected their offer to do so and use her music. Unfortunately, her claim was based on the time of this alleged offer, which was a year after Space Channel 5 had been released in Japan.

It does seem credible that Sega based a lot the style off of her, but why they approached her after the game had already been out in Japan isn't clear to me.

he's talking about the vector art (as in, not the corporate vector-shit you see today like the youtube banner people, which I know sucks dick and I hate it too, but the stuff that is actually trying to be fun and iconic) influenced style, not the afro-futurism style where everything is blue and chrome. its a lot different, its trying a bit to be retro but its not really that retro looking, it actually looks very modern, its blobby because vector art was (sort of) a new thing because computers got a lot better. But yeah, if you look at stuff like Super Milk Chan you will see what he is talking about: there is a retro-futurism (sort of) feeling in it, just turned really cute and iconic, but it started feeling really "fake" and robotic to people so it fizzled out.

I would say it was also influenced by the electronic music at the time, and I saw it whipped out a lot (at least in Japan) when they were doing pico-pop and stuff.

Ignoring the glaring tranny bait text, this is pretty sick.

That's just a yankified Shibuya-kei aesthetic. Distinct but not very far.

Didn't know that this style of vector art had a name. It's super cool.

That's a shame. They're so shiny and stylish, how could anyone dislike this? But I guess I see this a overused a lot in anime though.

No. In fact, in my artistic education, the only Y2K I've heard of is mentioned next to computer.

Wetrix and Aqua Aqua have that very distinct rounded shiny plastic looking 3D rendering and styling. I've no clue what you'd call this aesthetic but it's definitely adjacent to the 2D vector art in this thread.

Aqua Aqua apparently had a reprint or some other EU region release in 2002 with this terrible box art though.
Probably trying to avoid being overly cutesy.
