I don't know if FDStroid has this feature, but in NEStroid when you beat the game you start back over from the beginning with all your upgrades. If you beat the game fast enough to see suitless Samus on the ending screen you'll start the game over with all your equipment PLUS playing as Armorless Samus. The password is a shortcut for that, but just beating the game fast enough gets you there and utilizing the New Game+ feature can make beating the game fast enough much easier.

That's before the Zero Suit. And Japanese Zero Mission also has the NES version as unlockable. The cheat is changing ROM address 14EA6 to 02 (in MESEN that's 14E96 because it gets rid of the header), or game genie code ZEZKVT
