What are some unfortunate mascot games? Any Oscar fans, for example?
Bubsy the Bobvirgin
>>9595346Never heard of Alexander before. qrd?
>>9595563i have no idea either, i just thought the bubsy bit was funny, it's some random pic i found online
>>9595338I actually know someone who told me she remembers playing Oscar as a kid.She was from Greece and her family owned an Amiga.
>>9595346Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind is good and that's a hill I'm willing to die on. Anyone who says otherwise just got filtered by not learning to glide.
It doesn't matter if you're Bubsy the Bobcat, Awesome Possum, Alfred Chicken, Peach the Lobster, Bronkie the Bronchiasaurus or whatever - you can always hold your head up high, smile and say to yourself "at least I'm not this rotten sack of shit here".
Why are they always animals? The most popular video game mascot is a tubby Italian man. Why did everyone else try to copy Sonic instead of Mario?
>>9596637Would you prefer something like this?
>>9596646or this?
>>9596658or... whatever the fuck Horace is?
>>9596637God shut up, Sonic lives rent free in Mario fan's heads way more than the opposite.
>>9595858If you had an Amiga you were almost guaranteed to play Oscar at some point. It was everywhere even though no one really liked it.
This one is unfortunate because it's neither great nor utter kusoge and thus nobody remembers it. Charming Sonic clone imo.
>>9595563Not real. Autismo fanfiction. Same person did this meme. https://gameideas.fandom.com/wiki/Alexander_Forestail
>>9596637Cartoon animals were very popular with kids in cartoons and snacks. After the trend got traction it was an easy way to show that your game was a platformer
Socket might be one of the most unappealing looking vidya mascots out there but what always gets me is the Japanese name, "Time Dominator 1st".It's like, I dunno, calling Rayman "Soul Crusher 2000" or Mario "Stomp Annihilator X".
>>9596637Animals can be cute or cool naturally, it's just an easy choice for a mascot
>>9598035Ah yes, Socket, a prime example of Japanajank.
>>9596589I have to give the developers credit - they didn't try to make Mr. Nutz look like absolutely unappealing dogshit, which was the custom for most European videogame mascot characters during the 80s and 90s.
>>9597883Ah, I see. I don't know how those "people" aren't embarassed of themselves for such retardation.
>>9598035Time Denominator is the truest Sonic clone: Shit game saved by it's amazing music.
>>9597825I don't remember it being that omnipresent, but it was a pack-in game for one of the Amiga 1200 bundles. Amiga Power magazine even contacted Commodore and asked them why they were bundling such shit games with the computer and wouldn't that just make people regret their purchase, and they were rebuffed with "well, it will encourage them to go out and buy some better ones, won't it?"
>>9597865>one of those moments where the american / european cover art is better than the japanese versionThe hell.
James Pond is one of those European Amiga games that got console releases too.Whenever people talk about it, it's always the second game Robocod, and I think usually the Genesis / Mega Drive version, and it's been re-released of a shitload of systems in some fashion, even Switch.Nobody really talks about the original game that was a James Bond MGM parody, or about the third game which is set in outer space. James Pond 3 is pretty solid and gets ledicrously fast, much faster than Sonic does on his home system. There was also an Olympics spin-off game that's often forgotten. Also, all the covers for James Pond games always depict him holding a gun, parodying the James Bond movie posters, but I don't think he actually uses one in the games?
Oscar is like if Bubsy was bad.
>>9598417Well, almost always holding a gun, I ended up picking the one cover that doesn't.
>>9598035Game is garbage but oh my god the music. It's the kind of tunes I wish wasn't locked in this jank as fuck Sonic clone.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFtcMyTqCU8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcfXtCYzWvkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jg08eu5D3Q
>>9596584He doesn't looks like special agent for hire. He looks like he sells weed.
>>9598407Looks like it's by the guy that does the art for the Famitsu mascot.
>>9596584The bane of every shareware collection CD. Always with the fucking Skunny games. If games by Apogee were the oasises then Skunny were the bleached bones.
>>9598417Pond gets a laser gun in the first game and a fruit-shooting gun in the third.
>>9599035based
>>9598439My first thought as well, lol.
>>9598417Personally I like License to Bubble more than Robocod on the Genesis.
>>9596662He looks the way I feel.
>>9598281>which was the custom for most European videogame mascot characters during the 80s and 90s.But why?
>>9595338>"God that character is so fucking ugly. I bet it was designed by Bongs">look it up>Headquarters: Newcastle upon Tyne, United KingdomWhat is it with Brits and ugly characters?
>>9598035Why did they change him to a fucking duck
>>9595338Sonic if he's roadkill>>9596584>>9598439>S-Cunnybig rapist wigger energy>>9598441Susumu Matsushita? Not even close.>>9598035Delinquant Donald Duck>>9598417Extend Dong
>>9598281>>9600470Eurojanks tried aping anime-style drawings and it was even more disastrous
>>9600934
>>9600934>>9600942
>>9596584> is clearly a squirrel> called Skunnydeep lore manAnyway, what's so special about it? The games look like the generic shmups from what I see, does it have some feature that makes it extra turdy?
>>9600942>Implying you wouldn't
>>9600971>dogshit controls and physics>unappealing presentation>involved in multiple cases of controversy, plagiarism and unauthorized usage of copyrighted material, most prominently with Skunny Kart being built upon an early version of Wacky Wheels without the consent and knowledge of the original devs.
bump
>>9600942look like the bratz dolls from a few years back
>>9596584>thought it was a /vr/ shitpost this whole time everytime someone mentioned it>search "Skunny MS-DOS" on youtube>not only it is real, but it comes with 6 whole games>first three games even come with a backstory of how Skunny wants to be a videogame protagonist and so the devs shrunk him down with a washing machine and put him inside a microchip
>>9596584>His name isn't just "Skunny". It's "Skunny Hardnut".>There's a fourth game in the series, the unfortunately-titled "Skunny: Save Our Pizzas!"How on Earth did they get away with it?
>>9602987>>9603403don't forget this juicy tidbit:>Skunny is a squirrel who loves children, animals, and sticky nut puddings
>>9603403>the unfortunately-titled "Skunny: Save Our Pizzas!"I don't get the joke
>>9602987>>9603403>>9603446>one of the games, Desert Raid, has a character that directly references Saddam Hussein>And in a different game, Save Our Pizzas, he gets recycled as a failed pizza-making villain called Bigus Titus.
>>9596637Sonic is bigger than mario in europe
>>9595338>a fuckin dolphin
>>9605294Fuck a dolphin.
>>9605294As funny as it is that he's just a photorealistic dolphin, I can't say I wasn't drawn to Ecco as a kid. Mysterious, majestic, there was something magical about it, the little stars on his head hinted at this. I wish it was a better game, it's probably the worst game I tried to play the most as a kid hoping to "get it" every time.
>>9606431It gave me a headache. They tried to make the controls feel like you were underwater. I guess, in a sense, it's a compliment. The game made me seasick.
>>9596584Based. Luv me bottom of the barrel mascot. He is truly shit, he is so shit he transcends being shitty.A couple /vr/ guys should get together and make a wad for ECWolf or Doom. I think that’s the only game he hasn’t cloned.
>>9605273Europe is a dumb and irrelevant market
>>9600934>Likes yuriA man of taste...
>>9595385I am probably the only person who genuinely liked this game as a kid. I still do
>>9605294Why so many people are filtered by Ecco?I mean, not even by The Machine and Vortex queen boss, but by early stages.I feel like it's some sort of an autist test, only you're not counting as one if you can't beat the game. You're counting as one if you actually got invested into overcoming its obstacles and stayed with it to the end.
>>9607816>I feel like it's some sort of an autist test,It is. Non-autists can't play it. You have to be autistic to beat it.
>>9607819Reminds me of how I played DotF with my friend. The game was mine; he played it himself because he was better with the controls, but I did solve puzzles for him, as it was his weak side. We've got stuck at the Up and Down stage and didn't know what to do. Friend had a short patience, so he dropped the game and didn't want to come back for two months, then I've just convinced him to try one more time (I've already came up with solution to the puzzle but I didn't tell him). Turns out my solution was correct and we finally saw the next level, then we finished the game in several months, despite a HUGE amount of cryptic bullshit that game has thrown at us. Guess the tides of my autism were too strong for him to swim against the current
>>9605294krillin looking ass
>>9596589Ewwwww
>>9595338
>>9609317>where did you learn to fly
>>9597865played the shit out of this game as a kid. has some pretty good music on some levels
>>9598273Japank
