Blaster Master.

Should I play original or zero
>>

Zero. Original focuses on boring generic on-foot gameplay instead of the COOL AS FUCK tank sections.

Play Metafight first, because you'll end up gushing at how much Zero upgraded the original game. (and to understand some plot points of 3)

One of my biggest childhood games I have to go back and beat. The opening where the kid follows the frog down the pit was incredibly fascinating to me but I only got 10 minutes into the game before I couldn't figure out what the fuck to do.
>>
Without giving away too much what should my goals be when playing? I usually end up just heading right until I can't, end up in that underwater section, kill that boss that attacks with orbitals and then die shortly after. I know I can't be fighting these bosses correctly, there's moments where I manage to sort of strafe with my character but I can't do it consistently and I feel like that's where maybe I just have to git gud

I also get the feeling that I have more abilities than I'm using but idk if the tank needs an upgrade to actually hover or if its a button combo I havent figured out.

>anon just use youtube or gamefags

But I want to talk to my cool Blaster Master enjoyer frens
>>
>>9592669
In each level, you drive around the area with your tank, finding dungeons to enter on foot.
Most of those dungeons are optional, but important so you can upgrade your gun. Although you can very well just find a good place to grind your gun, go back&forth, and then be on your way.
One of the dungeons in each level has a boss which gives you an upgrade for the tank (like a new weapon or hover or driving on walls etc), necessary to unlock the path to the next level, and so on.

You can strafe by holding the bomb button.
Try to always have your gun max'd out before a boss, I know it's not easy. Some higher gun levels are actually shittier than earlier ones too because of poor hit detection. If all else fails, find a good spot to spam grenade on a boss.

Other protips: some of the levels loop on themselves, or have shortcuts that teleport you to another area. It makes some levels more confusing than they should be (level 2 is actually the worse)
You only have 3 lives, 4 continues. Infinite continues in the JPN version. It's actually pretty hard to beat the game in 4 continues, you have to know where to go, I only did it after beating the JPN version.
At some point once you get a certain upgrade, you'll find there is nowhere to go with the tank. You have to think Metroid and backtrack to an earlier level.
>>
There is one thing to be warned about if one goes with the Japanese version though. There is an area where you have to do a leap of faith and grab a solitary piece of ladder just before ground level. This was gottend rid of in the US verison, and it is pretty shitty, because the hit detection to grab the ladder has to be really precise.

Honestly play both (specifically OG Metafight for >>9590696 reasons). Blaster Master Zero gives you the outward impression of being a stright remake of the first game with its opening area and returning enemies, but then it throws a curveball and the series turns out to be a brilliantly subverted Metafight sequel.
...Oh, you wanted to dabble in the older sequels? Don't. The series was passed around Z-teams and didn't go anywhere until Zero, so you're better off ignoring them. The PlayStation game may be worth checking out if you want some context for a few story elements in Zero 2&3, and MAYBE try the GBC one if you just want more BM-otherwise, do yourself a favor and avoid the Western-made shovelware.

Original. It's a fantastic game, and Zero is a sequel, not a remake. Also, Zero doesn't have any of the amazing music the original had past Area 1. In fact, Zero's OST is the most mid shit you'll ever hear, and that keeps up for the whole trilogy.

Also play the Japanese version since it's canon. Read a manual translation or something.
>>
>>9592968
>and MAYBE try the GBC one if you just want more BM
NO.

Speaking from experience, and from BM being my favorite NES game, Enemy Below is shit. I mean it's legitimately dogshit, even for GBC standards. Your movement is slow as molasses, the areas are maze-like and incoherent to navigate without some kind of outside map, and the final area and especially the final boss are unbelievably unfair. In fact, without maxing out your gun and not taking a single hit, or some other kind of cheap exploit, I genuinely think it might be impossible to beat. Also the music sounds really bad, you can only move in four directions, and the weapon upgrades SUCK compared to the first game. Good luck even getting upgrades, there's so much cheap ass enemy placement. Even your basic grenades have been nerfed to hell and are practically useless.

It's really not worth playing, at all. A miserable experience.

>>9597059
Somewhere down the line, Inti got shamelessly, unapologetically horny. Zero 1 was still subtle about it, but with Zero 2 they stopped trying to hide it at all. At first it was kinda refreshing how open and honest they were about it (compared to other devs who try to defend it as being "subversive" or a "parody") but it's really annoying now.
>>
>>9593956
It's not exactly a bad game, it's just that at the time it tried to mesh the NA game/YA novel together and use that as the plot while killing Jason and Eve offscreen as part of the backstory which was just kind of a double-whammy of a tonal shift where the original game had a barebones goofy plot but was no some super serious sci-fi struggle on top of killing the MC and his newly-created (to everyone who hadn't read the YA novel which was damn near everybody) waifu. It's got some vague Megaman Legends feel to it in terms of Elfie acting as a Spotter of sorts.

If IC is allowed to continue the BMZ franchise they are going to tackle BA next and most likely make it a lot less miserable, My Body Is Ready
>>
>>9597180
>Inti reboots BA
>it's secretly MML3
>>
>>9597119
The games themselves aren't really horny at all. Kanna's honestly kind of a cunt in-game and no one ever mentions her figure or Eve going from a petite little cutie to what she is in 2 and 3. It's just the bonus artwork for 3 where they lost their minds.
>>
>>9597191
It's kinda possible, even as a teenager I noticed some similarities even if it isn't executed anywhere near as well. I'm kinda surprised people don't bring it up
>>
>>9590638
You can honestly play either, the game itself has minimal changes during gameplay, Metafight doesn't even have the very basic opening slideshow that BM has, the story is all manual based and can be looked up anywhere these days. BM changes the location SOPHIA/NORA rushes off from, the building/tower that collapses at the end of the game, and no Fred

Both.
While Zero is pretty faithful to the original, it also ends with the reveal of it being a sequel to the Japanese version, Metafight, with Kane Gardner being an established character.
It also pulls elements from the Worlds of Power novel, what with Eve being a thing. The whole trilogy's just one big love letter to the franchise and Zero 3 ends with a lead-in to Blasting Again on PS1, albeit with a more optimistic note vs. BA's "lol Jason and Eve fucking died"
>>
>>9590926
No clue about Ninja Gaiden, probably muh americans, but Blaster Master Zero's title is intentional due to Metafight having happened in its continuity, so rather than BM being a localization, it's now a sequel adventure with Jason being his own entity

>>
>>9597252
To be fair, the actual sequel part wasn't outright confirmed until BMZ3. Z1 established Kane and Jennifer as existing, but at the time, they were just namedrops to the fans who really knew the history behind the series' mixed-up localization efforts.

Also, Kane vs. Jason as the final battle of the trilogy was great on its own, but winning as Kane is what makes it truly satisfying.
>>
>>9597256
Leibniz' little jab that she'd say they both died has already crumbled given the post-game artwork released so far, motherhood's apparently changed her too much to be cruel to her adorable, perfect god-children like that. They know who mom and dad were and how they saved the universe
I'm just hoping she doesn't have to die to kick off the "we'll be watching and if anything ever threatens our kids we will bust out of Super-Dimensional Space and wreck everything immediately" sequel-plot hook Jason and Eve left Kane with, but with IC you never know
>>
>>9597282
That whole final battle was pure fanservice nonsense and had no reason to exist.
>none of Jason's friends ever bothered to tell Kane what was actually going on, instead of having vague anime monologues
>even Jason himself couldn't be assed to explain himself and not make himself look like he had turned into a corrupt evil mutant
>it's a "oh this was all just a misunderstanding!" ending, literally the worst kind
>>
>>9597331
Don't care. The plot was nonsense after Z1 anyway, so I'll just at least enjoy a brutal final boss on its challenge alone.
>>
>>9597321
Good point, and also yeah while Inti has a trend of twisting the knife in absurd manners, BMZ on the whole has been a lot more optimistic than Gunvolt/iX and I assume Dragon Marked for Death as well, chances are all three will be just fine

It was solidified earlier, at least as far back as the making of BMZ2: http://inticreates.com/blaster-master-zero-2-steam-release/
There are also optional side-conversations with Eve that allude to the mutants' nature.

Your opinion sucks. The people who made BMZ's music did their homework, they went pretty hard on recreating the "house sound" of their Famicom-era composers

>>
>>9597360
>There are also optional side-conversations with Eve that allude to the mutants' nature.
Which have always been scattered in bits and pieces through the mess of prior localizations. BM Zero really just streamlined it into something coherent.
>>
>>9597391
Don't care. Very, very few tracks in the entire trilogy have memorable melodies. Nothing touches the NES game, where every single track was a complete banger, despite being a much smaller soundtrack. Z1 is especially bad about this, because you have Area 1 to compare the rest of the game to, and nothing even comes close.

This is a problem Inti have always had going back to MMZ, where everyone lists tracks like Cannon Ball as evidence those games have great and memorable soundtracks, forgetting the other 90% of the game was just a grungefest and is a far cry from the NES Mega Man games where every single stage had a hit song.
>>
>>9597410
Inti's best music has always been the boss themes, not so much the standard levels.

This part is horrible. Holy shit. The only reason I have to put up with this is because they never finished the Spike upgrade as originally intended. If they had done so, this game would be damn close to perfect, but this section almost ruins the game for me. Nothing was unfair prior to this point.
>>
When you guys say Kane vs Jason, you mean Kane from the og NES games versus Jason from the localized game?
Cause if so thats fucking cool.
>>
>>9597667
Yes. In 3 you find out that the events of Meta Fight happened about 10-12 years previously, and Kane is now the head of planet Sophia's defense forces. He still pilots his now-decidedly antiquated MA-01 and absolutely stomps the fuck out of every other pilot with their far newer and more advanced models with ease. At the end of the game no one, even Super-Dimensional-powered Jason with his brand new cutting-edge custom-built MA expects to beat him, they're just trying to stall him long enough while Eve is busygiving birth to their twin children.
>>
>>9597263
wish we could discuss ds here
>>
>>9597665
The thing that sucks about this part is that the driving on walls mechanic makes you stick to the side of platforms like glue, and thus you have to jump BEFORE the very of a end platform, which goes against the natural habits taught by any other action sidescroller.

But you get used to it eventually. Wouldn't have been so bad if you could temporarily turn off upgrades.

I gotta ask, did anyone actually like BMZ3's plot direction?
>>
>>9598521
My biggest issue is that it feels more like an extension of BMZ2's plot than a standalone game. More personally I'm annoyed that it retread the "Eve is in mortal peril/separated from Jason again" thing because I really wanted another game where those two kids got to spend time with each other being adorable and fucking shit up, but otherwise fuck yeah I did. You can see my posts in some of the art reveal threads saying IS THAT MOTHERFUCKING KANE GARDNER HOLY SHIT and Leibniz turning into best mom is a great twist/reveal
>>
>>9597256
Zero 3 ALMOST ends in a way that can lead in to PS1 game, with "Jason" turning out to be Leibniz, but then you have to factor in Elfie and Roddy now being twins, and of course, Eve.
Since other dimensions seems to be a thing now, maybe they can establish the events of the PS1 game as taking place in a reality where Eve and Jason decided to have kids the old fashioned way.
>>
>>9597248
>BA's "lol Jason and Eve fucking died"
They didn't. Jason just left his helmet and dogtags by their parent's grave.
>>
>>9599808
I mean Roddy. Nevermind.
>>
>>9599808
>>9599831
Not exactly sure how that changes what you said? Jason is still explicitly said to have died in the intro CG, and Elfie even says she feels responsible for him dying as she was his spotter on the day it happened. Eve is also very much dead as well, she's just allowed to come back as a sort-of spirit due to her vague alien nature from the YA novel. She acts as a spotter while Elfie is kidnapped, then passes on once the kids are safe again. BMZ Eve (and probably Jason too by the time of a theoretical sequel) becoming "a being of pure thought" is assumed to be a nod to this, it just doesn't seem to mean they need to actually be dead

The only chore part is having to backtrack out of a long section once you grab whatever's at the end. Otherwise, they're perfectly fun, and make the game so much more unique.

MF's plot was somewhat mid-late 80s generic anime sci-fi and effectively existed entirely in the manual and expanded media, like an old fan magazine Sunsoft used to publish, so I suppose the NA branch felt free to fool with it. What's "what-if" territory is that Sunsoft did feel strong enough about the game to expand/fix it when it came over here, Japan had no intro cutscenes, so we could have gotten a quick couple of pictures about Kane, Jennifer and the Invem Dark Star Cluster/Goez, but instead for some reason they did what they did and just focused hard on Skele-venom as the Plutonium Boss and completely left Goez out of everything completely as a sort of surprise second boss. Then of course whoever wrote the novel thought our story was pretty flimsy, so they added Eve and shit just kinda snowballed from there I guess. For what it's worth given Blasting Again and the relative popularity of both games Sunsoft decided our story was the one to stick with, if anything BMZ/3 re-adding Meta Fight into the mix is the odd bit

>>
>>9604085
That's still not as bad as having to restart the entire game because you're out of continues (which were never marked as being limited to begin with) in the final levels
>>
>>9604085
Honestly it's not so bad. When you open the first gate and reach the wall you can see the ladder is placed where it is, so you just have to better object permeance than a cat to remember where it's located once you climb to the top to make your leap. The change the US version makes while eliminating the "cheap death" also makes the entire room redundant as there's no reason to separate the keys if you're just going to harmless walk to it. It over-corrects the problem.
>>
>>9604101
>there's no reason to separate the keys

There are some enemies to avoid (not shown in the picture) and you still need to watch your steps somewhat
>>
>>9604101
>When you open the first gate and reach the wall you can see the ladder is placed where it is
No you can't. You actually can't see it ahead of time. The camera doesn't pan far enough ahead to see it.

You are literally required to die before you even know what you're supposed to do.
>>
>>9603609
>Skele-venom as the Plutonium Boss
There's really no indication this was ever true back in the day. Sunsoft's official mag had this to say instead:
>Be on your toes to avoid the Plutonium Boss's whip.[...]the little creep is dog-meat.
Which sounds an awful lot like it's describing GOEZ and not the penultimate boss (it could also be interpreting both bosses as two forms of the same being since it doesn't mention fighting his "dog"). What probably happened is that kids assumed the creature shown on the cover is the main villain, and eventually enough people online rolled with it.
>Then what about Zero's Skeleton Boss?
Literally Skele-venom, as proven when you set the game to Japanese. For some asinine reason, the Zero and Zero 2 localizers decided to rename all the boss enemies in other language settings to fit what they thought was Blaster Master canon, but all they did was look up unsourced wiki names and assume they must've had it right. They can be traced to a fan-walkthrough by Dingo Jellybean. They renamed the returning frog boss because most people who played the game assumed it was the frog from the intro, even though the magazine and novelization suggest it's something else and the ending shows Fred unharmed. This also causes a translation issue with the Underworld Lord by Zero 3. Jason by all accounts should've known what its name was, but because they fucked up in Zero 1, localization halfasses it by claiming GOEZ is the Underworld Lord's name on planet Sophia, which makes -no- sense because the name was displayed by the namesake tank's -Sophian- records. So why did Jason get another name? Was it stuck on auto-translate? But that can't be, because as we all know, humanoids speak the same language in the future. Also, Eve was able to retrieve the actual name of the mutants in optional dialog (Invem), although it wasn't revealed yet to keep the Metafight aspect a surprise. Needless to say, Japanese text doesn't have this avoidable plothole.

There's something to be said about naming planets NAME NUMBER as part of a system, so just calling the planet Sophia by itself isn't really wrong, but yes Jason's MA still using the Sophia name is a fucking mess but they wanted to keep the BM link I suppose. As it is I still call Kane's vehicle NORA MA-01 on occasion because in the early 00s most of the people on the internet who knew about Meta Fight decided that was a more correct name as it tired it to the NORA science academy, but it seems overall the old MF manual and now Zero really just wanted it to be called Metal Attacker. That sub-menu text just fucked everybody and everything up
>>
>>9605184
Zero 1 by itself can be considered a remake. Zero as a trilogy is absolutely a sequel

Well that explains why Jason is all like "At last, I have to fight the Mutant Lord, [Underworld Lord]!" at the end of Blaster Master Zero. Some major dumbfuck editor autoreplaced "GOEZ" with "Underworld Lord" without context for how stilted it sounds. Also even more strangely, the Japanese names didn't even need to be translated: The boss battles display both the Japanese kana and English translation. So whoever did this made a concerted effort to replace the originals with fannames that they then put in a katakana renderer.
I hope whoever's responsible for that got firmly slapped over it.

Sequelmakes are "in" I guess. The new Kiki Kaikai / Pocky & Rocky is this to the 1st SNES game. Same idea. If you play attention to the Eve logs, there are loads of hints that tie the BM mutants to the MF Invem way before the true ending, mentioning that they're survivors who previously battled a similar tank on another world and came to earth to recuperate.
>>9605206
How do you feel about the Invem being "mutants"? That seems like another retcon to make MF fit within the BM universe. They just seemed to be an invading alien force led by a ruthless intergalactic conqueror in the original manual. Then again, I guess the mutants in MetaFight EX were supposed to be related to Invem...
>>9605310
NTA but it kinda ruins the MetaFight undertones the game is supposed to have, which is why you have anons in this very thread who still insist the connections weren't obvious until BMZero 3 (which is true, in English, and if you missed out on >>9597360). If the game is supposed to be set firmly after the unlocalized MetaFight with the same enemies, you had a pretty simple job to not needlessly localize those elements, the developers knew exactly what they were doing without you mucking around. Apparently storywriters felt it was important enough to tell him to cut it out and address in BMZero 3.

Eh. It's fine, really. It sorta makes Goez into a pawn of Drolrevo I guess, which is weird but doesn't exactly harm anything? I'd much more question why Eve ended up turning into a "being of pure thought" after getting stashed in Superdimensional space if that's supposed to be where the mutants hail from, if she converted properly to a mutant why would she transform further? I mean I know "why" they did it in terms of the story but it doesn't sit right to me in a way. Jason being affected makes sense but that should just be her now-natural habitat
>>
>>9605206
>>9605278
To me, Zero 1 wasn't meant to have sequels. Aside from Eve's inclusion and some light nods to the original MetaFight plot, it was a straight one-off remake, which was probably why the localizers were allowed to get away with the old US names. Once Z2 and Z3 came out, that's when all the continuity errors popped up.
>>
>>9605868
Yeah, they probably didn't expect to make a sequel, let alone two, but I'll say that even without the sequels, calling Blaster Master Zero a remake is doing a disservice. Pretty much only Area 1 is 1:1 with the original. That's like saying every Sonic game with a Green Hill Zone recreation is a remake.
>>
>>9605868
I wouldn't go so far as to say it wasn't meant to, but it was at least written to be a complete and stand-alone game. It's more apparent in how Eve and Fred were meant to operate, much more closely to how she did in in the YA novel really, sent on her own to fight the mutants with the "bond with a native and make them the pilot" aspect not really fleshed out yet
>>
>>9605206
Funny enough, seen >>9604748, the tank was still meant to be called Metal Attacker in Blaster Master NES, they just completely forgot to bring up its name in rhe manual somehow. The novelization that introduced Eve was the source that gleaned "SOPHIA 3RD" from the pause screen, and the rest is history.

Blaster Master 2 might be the worst game in the series, but I always thought there must've been a story behinr that, it did bring us the "Lightning Beings" strangely enough, and Jason's death animation where he blasts apart into meaty chunks will never not make me laugh my ass off.

The fact is, as old info withers away and the old guard of creatives inevitably go, you're going to see more of this happen over time. Not just in the West, but Japan is starting to do this as well, like that time Smash Bros. recited a Japanese Wikipedia article for a list of Piranha Plants or when NoJ allowed NintendoDream fan-mag writers to officialize their theories to fill in some Zelda lore-gaps in Hyrule Encyclopedia (not to be confused with Historia). You should see the Dark Horse game encyclopedias over at archive.org, they're a shitshow if you know what to look out for (there's a certain name that keeps popping up in them too, so signs point to him being the one responsible for most of it, but he probably won't ever get criticized too harshly since he became a somewhat respectable game writer and seems like a nice chap personally, he just leans way too heavily at fandom nods). Mario Wiki put up a vigilant fight (I think it helped that they took a page from the Transformers wiki and basically told canonfags to go fuck themselves early on when the mental adolescents over at other wikis were obsessing over it), but they recently made a "well, if they're sticking with their guns with some of this crap, I guess our hands are tied" concession, which I fear is going to backfire and send the wrong message.
>>
>>9606981
Been sort of searching around but no not so far, this was all around the time of BA's release so it's going back a long way. The book outright tells you at the start of the massive lore section, but here is the moment it was discovered in the Japanese release: https://zeldauniverse.net/forums/Thread/183385-Timeline-and-other-interesting-tidbits-in-Hyrule-Encyclopedia/?postID=5881983#post5881983
It makes a bunch of questionable claims that so far have yet to be substantiated elsewhere, such as the Kokiri being a subset of Hylians and Termina somehow being a figment of Skull Kid's imagination (or whatever that was all about), which would be reasonably safe to assume are the fan-injected parts until stated otherwise, but Zelda Wiki admins somehow managed to outdo themselves and spin it as the series' bible.
>>

Funny thing is that Nintendo at first tried to present the timeline as if it just was their own theory, stating that story details aren't set in stone and are always subject to change, almost as if it comes from the POV of a Hyrulean historian making close guesses, but not enough people read the fine print and so they dropped that pretense later on.

Cool article.
Doesn't say why the game sucked so bad though, which it did.

I just can't believe with how great the first game was, with so much fan appeal, and great sales, that he sequel was such ass. I mean even on the Genisis it could pull off a good anime like game, but it was western and ugly and horrible. Like every game made in England imo.

THey should have put he girl in, the dynamics of having a co-star that's female is good shit. Like old time detective stuff, or for japan wank material.
>>
I wish I knew how to make fangames so I could make one of this franchise. I'd remake the first game.

MetaFight: Blaster Master Origins
>true remake of the original
>shoot diagonally
>cutscenes and story elements help tie it to the Zero trilogy
>Jennifer actually tags along this time for cute banter
>8-bit but the artstyle resembles the 80s original way more
>all the songs from the original, properly remixed
>area 8 split into two, area 9 requires Spike upgrade to unlock, completing the original vision
>areas expanded with added bosses and upgrades from the GBC game along with some exclusive bosses for the tank
>"Original Mode" to turn cutscenes/remixes/new shit off aside from widescreen and saving

Still, I would love Zero to be remade with original Metafight cutscenes and story. It's a much better story.
>>9608328
I wish Nintendo would get its own board and they would bar talking about it here. It's why Pokeomon got its own board on /v/. It took up 75% of the threads. Nintendo autists take up 75% of the posts and just scream and yell all day and night about it,.
>>

I know they're tied. But I would have things like him being promoted to a higher rank in the Sophia Force to foreshadow him becoming Commander, and at the end show them building the SOPHIA III to send to Earth. You could even have a Fred-like animal be part of Kane's support team, then kill it off midway through in a tragic scene.

Also just in general, if the presentation were more like Zero, that would go a long way to tying them together just on its own.

Not really feasible considering BMZ is like 80-90% the same game with some slightly different areas/bosses, there's just no point. I think a much better idea would be a midquel type thing, showing a different conflict where he and Jennifer conceive of the idea of sending MAs around the galaxy as the mutant/Invem threat grows. Also he does have a support animal, it's just antiquated and purely mechanical (and mounted on his shoulder)
>>
>>9608549
>Not really feasible considering BMZ is like 80-90% the same game with some slightly different areas/bosses
No, they're pretty damn different. Area 1 is mostly the same, but after that it's completely different. ALL the bosses are different, ALL the levels are completely redesigned (some, like Area 2 don't even have their original tropes anymore), ALL the music is replaced. You can view BMZ as a reimagining, or "Blaster Master how you remember it" but in practice, it's an entirely new game. If you've played both, there's no fucking way you could view BMZ as a true remake of the original.
>>
>>9608573
>If you've played both, there's no fucking way you could view BMZ as a true remake of the original.
I disagree
>>
>>9608573
I've played both and they are still WAY too similar to be called different. Also 2 was the 2 we fucking deserved.
>>
>>9608648
>>9608747
There's nothing to "disagree" with. This is not up for debate. It is an actual verifiable fact that after area 1, ALL (literally, all) of the level design, the bosses, the story, and the soundtrack, are entirely new. That is not "80-90% the same". That is not "too similar to be different". Metroid Zero Mission is more similar to its original than BMZ is, and if you've played it, that's saying a hell of a lot.
>>
>>9608747
>Also 2 was the 2 we fucking deserved.
3, not so much. I feel like having to directly tie it to both MetaFight and Blasting Again was a major detriment when both games were just fine as easter-eggs for the longtime BM fans.

My approach would be diverged reboot that remakes all the parts in Meta Fight that weren't directly remade in Blaster Master Zero; for example, level layouts reused in Zero would be changed up, and the returning bosses would be fought differently, like alter GOEZ's boss fight in a similar way the frog and skeleton bosses were reimagined.
Also, I'd begrudgingly age up Kane and Jennifer a bit. Kane looks older than he's supposed to in Zero 3, and the "teen hero" idea is a bit dated.

Funny enough, English localization got that one wrong, because it's no longer Z-1988 in Japanese, you see, but Z-2017 now. Get it? They should've given this boss a new name if they were doing their due diligence. I wonder if the Blasting Again version of this boss is supposed to be Z-2000 then.
Very first Area 1 boss is also the same, and the second final boss is now the first final boss of Area 8.
>>
>>9608573
>>9608773
Area 4 was also remade fairly closely, even with its own take on >>9604085 but as less of a blind jump. The areas beyond that have superficial similarities in theming terms, but yeah, different layouts overall outside those two areas.
>>9608775
The crab and lobster bosses are back too, but have revised attack patterns. The frog and skeletal bosses also return, but they're encountered outdoors instead of indoors so they have completely different boss battles.

The bike is ace, it'd have been cool to have an alternate non-tank vehicle. The girlfriend partner is kind of like peering into another universe where Eve wouldn't become a major character in the games, it's obvious Blasting Again must've been conceived with Metafight in mind and then Sunsoft flipped a switch mid-development, which is why Eve is suddenly a blonde exactly like Jennifer and no longer the freckled redhead described in the book. Who knows, maybe things would've been more coherent if this character took Eve's place, but I'm not sure I'm such a fan of her design. Wish we had nore development materials for this series!

>What probably happened is that kids assumed the creature shown on the cover is the main villain,
That's actually Worlds of Power's doing, just like Sophia III being a tank and not the planet. Plutonium Boss's form is on the perceiver's fears, so to Jason, it looks exactly like the cover art mutant alien, which I guess can imply the humanoid "Master Boss" could be its second form. But the author still messed up again because he had no context for how it shows up in-game with it halfway-bursting through a wall, so only the viewable front half is described as if that's its full body. Whoops.
