>give this a try because of the hate>becomes the only Mario i like>fun moveset and complex levels with many ways to beat them right away>fun side bosses and mechanics>actual Peach involvement>English dub>even the hub is full of fun gameplay without wasting time, unlike Sonic Adventure for example (this game is real doodoo upon revisit)the imperfections might add to its charm. i found odyssey very boring because everything was so sterile
>>9440056I like it for how odd it is feels like something we will never get again. Also nice lack of tutorials, easy to pick up and play through once a year
It was just incredibly disappointing coming off the back of SM64. There was minimal variety in level types and it just didn't feel as grand an adventure.
>>9440056>fun movesetOnly valid point, and that's only half true since the special stages take the gimmick away, which really sums up how big of a fuck up this entire enterprise was.
>>9440070>incredibly disappointingTedious and unfun describe the game perfectly.
I wouldn't hate it if we had got a proper mario64 sequelconsider if SMW didn't exist and Nintendo released Yoshi's Island in its place
>>9440056it's great but really no 64. replay 64
>>9440056I don't get the hate either, it may not be Mario 64, but it's still a solid Mario. The only really bad thing is the blue coins, if you want to 100% the game (which it doesn't warrant tbqh)
Yea don't listen to the contrarian 64 faggots. They tend to have autistic traits so they'll screech when someone likes something they don't like.
If you dislike Sunshine, you have no soul
Sunshine haters are the same people who whine about lack of originality in modern games. They're the cause of it.
>>9440070>There was minimal variety in level typesI’m okay with that in Sunshine’s case. Tropical levels are kino
>>9440056>3d Mario is better than 3d sonic Duh?
>>9440056>English dubIt's not a dub, just voiceovers. There's no alternate voice track in the Japanese version or anything.
>>9440056Oh my goodness that cover art is so aids.
>>9440056>>fun moveset and complex levels with many ways to beat them right awayWeird lie
>>9440064Mario Odyssey has a level called New Donk City, and it feels like Delfino Plaza?
You can like something even if it's a bad game. Sunshine is my favorite 3D Mario as well, but it's absolutely not the best of the bunch.
>>9440389>New Donk Cityisn't that new pork city from smash bros?
>>9440056>odyssey>sterilecontrarians in full fucking force today
>>9440056I never hated it. I hate the fact that it is not Mario 64The game is great though
jumping from one platform to the next is more satisfying than doing it in sunshine, there's no weight to sunshine mario, he's also too sensitive
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odrrumX00c4Even though I liked playing it, the game was so very clearly rushed, but at least it wasn't embarrassing like Luigi's Mansion.
>>9440056I 1000% agree OP.
>>9441332Luigi game is good
>>9440398I don't really agree with this line of thinking and I think so many people embracing this is why we have such a homogenization of games. game evaluation is subjective by nature. We each go into a game with our own set of taste, expectations, and biases. Can you properly name a difference between objective/subjective points of praise/criticism? One might be inclined to say bugs are an objective flaw in video games, but one forgets many find bugs hilarious in games like goat simulator, party games, and co-op. Who is to say that their way of enjoying games is objectively incorrect? Insisting that games need to do certain things to be objectively good is such a constraint on the medium, and other forms of media as well.
>>9441607Yes.>objectiveThis game has a higher than normal poly count for games from this era and pulls off a number of interesting rendering/lighting tricks. This game's music offers a wide variety of different styles and genres. This game doesn't have 240 hidden collectibles to find that aren't tracked, that may appear or not depending on how the level is loaded, and that often have no indicator of their location whatsoever.>subjectiveGame looks good.Game sounds good.Game is fun.I can acknowledge that Sunshine, despite being the only 3D Mario I even like, has some really bad design choices. Your way of thinking is how we end up with hour long youtube videos dedicated to arguing that Sonic 06 is a masterpiece.
>>9441708>This game has a higher than normal poly count for games from this era and pulls off a number of interesting rendering/lighting tricks.>This game's music offers a wide variety of different styles and genres.>This game doesn't have 240 hidden collectibles to find that aren't tracked, that may appear or not depending on how the level is loaded, and that often have no indicator of their location whatsoever. You list these items as they appear objectively, which I do not contest. My statement was to evaluations of these qualities as objectively good or bad. If your implication is that #1 and #2 are good, and #3 is bad, that is where I have an issue with labeling these as objective flaws and strengths.I think the blue coins are shit, but there are those out there who like treasure hunts with little to go on. Some probably like the atmosphere that 64's low poly count conveys, although I disagree with it. The music fits the theme, but I can imagine that tropical music is grating to many. You have done nothing to prove that overly hidden collectibles, a variety of music, or high poly count is objectively good or bad.
>>9440056You're such a fucking retard.I'd tell you not to breed, but God knows you never had a chance.
>>9440056I only have 2 real complaints with Sunshine, that are easily modded:Problem: You have to get the first 7 shines in every level to beat the game. Other shines don't matter or do anything at all. Solution: Make the game based on shine count instead, like Mario 64.Problem: You have to do the shines in order all the time and you can't ever skip ahead.Solution: identify shines that could exist at the same time and put them in the level at the same time, like Mario 64.Otherwise, the game is fantastic. Love the moves, love the levels, love the bosses, love the gimmicks, love the no-fludd challenges. I wish the other fludd nozzles did more.
>english dub as a positiveruined your baitpost
>>9440056I was hyped as fuck for this game. It wasn't bad, sure, but I probably had the least fun with it out of all the main series Mario games.
>>9441813I downloaded the jap version thinking it had the jap voices to not listen to the shitty language
>>9440070I hate you so fucking much. If we ever met on the playground, I would beat the living shit out of you.
>>9441885It's okay anon, nobody's taking your little paint-cleaning game away from you.
>>9441781>You have to get the first 7 shines in every level to beat the game>You have to do the shines in order all the time and you can't ever skip aheadYou just reminded me that this game is even worse than what I remembered. Anyway, pretty much every single mission is unfun cancer, Nintendo didn't want to make a game, they wanted to create a universe.
>>9440056Yeah.every time I see something get a strange amount of autistic hate I add to my list to try. And yes, if you're good enough you can do some wild shit in sunshine. Oh, defining moment of how I knew sunshine was great was the blue coin complaints and the solutions to them.
>>9442901You w0t m8?
>following up mario64 with a gimmick gameyike
>>9443902>hopping onto your phoneembarrassing
>>9440056>even the hub is full of fun gameplay without wasting timeWhilst the game has a lot of fun activities, there's a major flaw in the design. The only hard requirement to access the final level and beat the game, is to have cleared the 7th episode of each of the 7 worlds.Collecting shines will open up additional worlds by unlocking new F.L.U.D.D. attachments and Yoshi in Delfino Plaza, but clearing the 7 mandatory episodes per world will unlock all of the worlds in due time. This means that shines carry no weight in game progression, same for the blue coins that account for 24 of the game's 120 shines. There's an argument to be made that "You only complete the worlds when you're ready to beat them", that you'll "play the levels you can beat until then", but you're still required to beat no less than 49 specific episodes. 48 if you skip the only intended skippable episode from Bianco Hills. It's not open like Super Mario 64 where you can skip the levels that are giving you trouble or don't enjoy, and episode progression is entirely linear. Linearity doesn't have to be a bad thing, but the game provides the illusion of open design.
>>9440056Most of the hatred this game gets is because of the lack of level variety. It's not a bad game by any means.
>>9444236Mario 64 itself is a gimmick next to the 2D games.
>>94449612D Mario is a gimmick next to the 1D game
