ITT: retro games that aren't as good as you remember.
>>9436387Never played this but always wanted to since I thought Ty was hot.
>>9436395Mario 64 is still fun. but I admit it feels like a tech demo now... the other 3d platformers on the n64 while not as tight gameplay wise are more fleshed out games imo.if you want another controversial pick here's mine... I completed it to 100% last year and I realized just how tedious this game is... as a kid it's one thing since you have nothing but time. but as an adult it's annoying how obtuse it can be. I realized when my friend watched me play and I explained all the shit I had to do that the game required a lot of autism. Still fun but really just btfo me for being a manchild playing a kid's game lol. OoT is a lot more straight forward.
I know, I know. But it just isn't.
>>9436387I like the humor still but this game fuckin sucks. I don't much like any of the 3d rare games now...
>>9436387OP, what specifically didn't you enjoy then 2nd time around?
>>9436387This is still fun, but I realized that it helped change shooters away from the fun boomer shooters. And the story is meh on retrospect.
>>9436548Let's see...My main gripe with this game is just how brain-dead it is. And no, it being a kids game is not an excuse for it to be so unbearably easy. The boomerangs are somehow even more OP than the ones in the first game, so most of the time I ended up just using the standard ones unless I had to pick another one which defeats the purpose of the great bulk of them.Dying in this game is practically meaningless too since they ditched the lives mechanic from the first one.Other honorable mentions:>boring vehicle missions, worse than anything you would find in the Sonic adventure games. (Which is a valid comparison because TY rips it off like there's no tomorrow)>annoying NPCs in the town. Expect to hear "HELLO TY." very fucking often.>thrown out of stages in select missions and having to traverse the same route every time this happens. If there's anything redeeming about this game it's probably its atmosphere and soundtrack, but otherwise it has nothing going for it.
>>9436603the town is fucking comfy though
All the games I have played are still good
>>9436808perfect dark has better multiplayer
>>9436840You gonna cry?
I still think this game is still pretty underrated, don`t play it like a covershooter tho. Play it like doom 2016 and take all the hostages
>>9436528>>9436395contrarians for the sake of it
>>9439178>nooo! someone doesn't blindly love bing bing wahoo 64! contrarians!!
>>9436387I never played this series or the Tak games. Mostly just stuck to SEGA and Nintendo stuff during that time period
>>9436562I don't think it should apply to games you played completely to death and now can't be bothered.
>>9439124this shit was a huge disappointment
Ty 2 was “okay”. Ty 1 didn’t try and reinvent the wheel, it just took things previous collectathon’s did and wrapped it up in a nice little cartoon Aussie setting. Ty 2 sort of made the traveling between worlds tedious by introducing a sort of open world, and the mecha gimmick wasn’t the best. Sometimes it was fine, other times it felt tedious. It’s a shame they never really built off what made Ty 1 fun and just kept trying to add more gimmicks in future games.
>>9436537Yeah it really isn't. The damage ticks from the sharks and the last level/final boss are just amateurish shitty programming
>>9441661the parts of ty 2 that are like ty 1 are great but driving from place to place is boring
>>9441736Eyup. It’s a shame because now that I think about it, I feel like even the parts that were more inline with Ty 1 were still worse, or at the very least, more forgettable. Still, I definitely wouldn’t say my time with it was wasted. It was still an alright time, but going right from Ty 1 to 2 and expecting it to just build off the already solid foundation was definitely a let down. Dunno why they decided to take such a different approach in the sequel.
>>9439178"not as good as I remember" is not the same thing as "actually bad"
>>9441797the open world shit was probably to try and get on the gta3 train
>>9436387sonic adventure 2, can't believe I 100%d that shit
>>9441840I think Jak 2 and 3 may have been the bigger influence
God the bosses were so spongy
>>9442968empire of steel is pretty good idk whats ur problem
>>9441797Krome Studios was never all that good of a dev and they started to embrace the late 2000s edgy = better trend with the third Ty and then the first two legend of spyro games
>>9443013If only you could fucking read.
the original holds up
>>9443049if only you could enjoy good games
>>9442962jak 2 was copying gta 3 though
>>9443057I feel the opposite way, personally.
Ty 2 is comfy and fun, but the main levels and execution themselves are just kinda okay.
It's a shell of a game, still compelled to fish out invisible walls to this day but there's no fucking point. Completion percentages were a mistakeStill I load it up and I'm just a wee lad on my grandad's computer again
