Why do so many X fans hate the Zero series?
>>
>>9268903
Less fun, more tedious.
>>
screwattack g4 mtv millennials
>>
>>9268906
Lol the zero series is faster paced and has much more technique
>>
>>9268903
It came out during a time Mega Man was getting a lot of simultaneous releases and MMZ punishes you by not getting better at the game. You have to grind to make your health bigger instead of finding Heart Tanks and it counter-balances it by stopping you from being able to earn Boss Skills.
>>
Zero series is garbage on par with X6
>>
>>9268903
MMX 1-3 was fun, so are the GBA zero games. Just slightly different approaches to a fun platformer just like MMX was a different spin on the original MM platformer.
>>
>>9268908
So people who are 36?
>>
>>9268903
Handheld is not a good device for precision platforming and anything on such a device will automatically be worse simply for that reason. The level design is also notably worse due to having to compensate for being on said device. There are also some really questionable design choices due to inti not knowing what they were doing.
>>9268910
>Lol the zero series is faster paced and has much more technique
X6 Xtreme is both faster and more mechanically difficult, as if that was really what decided the quality of a game.
>>
>>9268903
Because it's a challenging game and they suck at it. It's easier to blame the game than to admit your own faults.
>>9268967
Cope. The controls are great and it's designed around being a handheld game.
>>
>>9268974
>it's designed around being a handheld game.
yeah thats what i just posted and the reason its shit
>>
>>9268967
Zero has instantaneous gameplay reaction in his series akin to classic NES Mega Man, while in X6 he's tied to needing his animations to end, such as putting away his Z-Saber before running, making you a sitting dunk and the Skills being prone to accidental input, especially that one saber dive.
>>
>>9268903
I'm sure people would have liked it more if they didn't ruin the character design.
>>
His new design is faggier than the original.
>>
>>9268967
>X6 Xtreme is both faster and more mechanically difficult
Xfags are delusional beyond belief
>>

This series debuted in '02. It's as zoomer as you can get for /vr/ standards. I don't know why you're trying to talk shit
>>
>>9269484
rank a is easy to get, as long as you don't die and don't use elves you're pretty much guaranteed to get it
>>
>>9268903
I didn’t play MMZ for a long time because the art style is trash, unfortunately like a lot of post-90s anime. Cluttered, gaudy, and designed for cosplay.
>>
I just tried zero 1 on the GBA and I got filtered by how shit it was by the second level

You've never played a Zero game.
>>
Zero is a sub-series made up entirely of good games whereas half of the X series is dogshit.
>>
>>9269540
i remember having to do some bullshit like killing X number of enemies on the intro stage.
>>
Zero is a good MM subseries to display your buster skills.
Overpowered laser sword in close-ish combat is for pussies.
>>
>>9269810
The anon you're replying to is talking out of your ass. To get an A Rank you also need to clear the stage fast enough, avoid as much enemy damage as possible, kill just about everything in your path, and never die.
>>
>>9269548
>cluttered
Nigga, the whole point of Nakayama's art is that it's simple shapes and very little clutter. Zero's original design is bussier with the shoulderpads, the lightboots, the yellow spikes on his boots, etc.
>>
>>9269872
Damage value is surprisingly lenient, you can even heal with your Subtanks, as long as you don't die, A Rank is attainable. S Rank is a true bitch to consistently get.
>>
>>9268903
playing on the GBA sucks. unlike most people, I prefer dashing with A/O and not one of the triggers

How do you hold a charge while jump dashing?

ahaha thisss is the correct answerrr. the legacy collection with "save-assist" throws in a checkpoint before the bosses and at the start of the level which makes the series 500% more playable. definitely one game I wouldn't shame anyone for save stating

Jap devs were stupid about this kind of shit when it came to handheld games. So many games had super-grindy mechanics, or "card based" bullshit, or proto "games as a service" shit where the full game game would be released in "episodes." I never understood it. Japs are always so technically proficient, but religiously make the absolute dumbest design choices that bring what could have been a 9/10 game down to a 6 or 7.
>>
>>9270079
Those aspects are stupidly popular with children over there, like bug collecting. It's the reason Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Battle Network took off as they did in Japan.

I got X1 when it came out because it looked so fucking sick. I ended up hating it, then years later I thought they fixed the formula with X3 NOPE.
It's because there's about ZERO remove to maneuver which makes it far too hard. ZX is fine, Z is crap.
>>
Do you even lose anything by having lower ranks? I never beat these games.

In Z1 not really. High rank just means the bosses get desperation moves. From Z2 onward you need high ranks to get EX skills. Extra saber moves for Zero

Let's see, why do I, a fan of the X series, hate the Zero series...

>I hate the art direction and designs as a whole
>I hate the Casshern Sins-tier perpetual misery
>I hate Zero getting memory erased into a blank slate making everything that happened in the X series pointless
>I hate the story
>I hate how it disjointed and disconnected it feels as a continuation of the X series
>I hate the retroactively damning effect it has on the X series
>I hate how it caused the Mega Man franchise to develop Castlevania syndrome

The one thing I will thank it for is enlightening me on why openly bridging the Classic and X series is a bad idea, because it'd make everything that happened in the Classic series, including potential new games, feel completely pointless.

No it doesn't, the Elf Wars never actually happened in the X series

>you even said it retroactively affects the x series

Yeah, everything X and company do in the X series is pointless because everything will end up in the miserable future that is the Zero series.

>"the x series is pointless because zero has a bit of hibernation sickness in Z1"

Zero being memory wiped into a blank slate means that everything he experienced that shaped him into who he was in the X series was all for nothing, and he never returns to being who he was before.
>>
>>9271914
The Elf Wars happen because of the X series...
Oh no the day is saved on Friday guess I should do jackshit on Thursday. Nihilistic retard.
Zero isn't the blank slate the first thing he does after waking up is help Ciel because he's a top bloke, unlike you. Zero was a top bloke in the X series and he remains one now; you tell me what is missing from his character.
>>
>>9269810
Ranks only really matter in Z2 and Z3. In Z1 all rank does is give you the one cyber elf, which you can get as soon aa you finish the intro mission. Z1 is the one with the most bullshit requirements for A/S rank, so those requirements don't really matter.
For Z2-Z4, A rank is easy as long as you comolete the mission objectives in a reasonable amount of time without dying or using elves. With Save Assist, these are free. And in Z4, the rank doesn't matter unless you want to see the boss' EX skills.

Not him, there is no denying Mega Man became more story heavy as the series progressed.
The Zero series is personally full of memorable moments, the whole Z4 ending part was one of the most epic things I ever witnessed in a videogame, even with the shitty gba screen resolution.
It is wrong to play Mega Man solely for the story, but there is some good in it.
Even X4 suffers from bad execution and memes, but the Repliforce rebellion was interesting and partly justified.

Mega Man Legends had already confirmed the world was ultimately doomed about 5 years before Legends though. Humanity has gone extinct, the Maverick Hunters essentially became a shadow government organized by classes rather than ranks, with anything that even remotely contradicts their directives as Maverick behavior, the artificial life forms working and terraforming the planet experimenting scheduled purges if they populate too much while simultaneously forming their own culture based on the remnants of what the true human culture was like and a lot of inside conflict both among carbons (crime, piracy etc) and the last remaining system reploids (Trigger going rouge as well as being the last robot with free will, Sera's resentment, the Municipal Units like Juno just doing their job because it's all they know).

Mega Man's robot timeline was always fucked, had MMZ been made or not. The Internet timeline ostentively got saved because robot technology wasn't there to continuously ruin everything and Lan trying to reach for Dr. Wily, being human, unlike classic Rock's "gotta stop him and arrest him and then resume household functions" directive.
>>
>>9272787
>5 years before Legends
I meant 5 years before Zero, I need to proof-read shit.
>>
>>9272787
I think nobody cares about it in that case because Legends happens after such a long time skip it literally wouldn't matter, while the Zero series is still using the same players as the X series but tells you "oh horrible shit happens off-camera dude it was horrible you should have seen it"
>>
>>9272138
>>Playing Mega Man for the story
>The absolute fucking state of some of you autists.
this chump probably doesn't even know why mega men fight. he'll never megamerge and become the mega man king. pathetic.
>>
>>9272798
Blame Capcom not wanting Inti have any sort of contact with Value Wave, who were handling the series at the time. It's the exact reason why Zero doesn't even start with "In the year..." and we didn't had any confirmed date until the Rockman 11 Production Book, they had to dance around shit hard. Makoto Yabe always intended Model A to be Axl's DNA Soul for example but because Axl's fate after X8 was "unknown" the Model Albert bit was written in as plausible deniability.

There's also the whole thing about Rockman DASH 2 in the Japanese dialogue trying to lowkey imply Trigger/Volnutt is related to X somehow by vaguely alluding to how he's the only one in the whole system with true free will and that he's a "very ancient robot" that Sera resents because The Master spent all his spare time with him rather than paying her attention since she doesn't have true free will, existing only tied to the System's program. Probably Model X was going to lead to the origins of Trigger, given how similar by design Aile and Vent were made to look like Rock Volnutt.
>>
>>9271023
>> ds version
if you got a switch get the legacy collection for the checkpoints or just play it with save states... its not a super noob friendly series... it'll make it more fun. unless you're already some sort of megaman x4+ god and don't need it... people say you need to grind, but that's not really accurate... you can totally grind etanks or boss order to get all the elemental weaknesses to make things easier, but its more just knowing the boss patterns imho
>>
>>9272860
People forget you can find subtanks in stages as well and each subtank allows for plenty of refills on your base life bar, and weapon levelling is dropped after Zero 2, so grinding is more a punishment for players who won't get good.
>>
>>9268903
Do they? I played Z1/2 on emulator and thought they were cool, just hard. (I used savestates obviously, but I was also playing on keyboard.)
When the remasters game out on Steam I bounced right off them, wasn't interested at all. I think it's the size of the screen, you can hardly see anything around you compared to the X games.
>>
>>9272920
Level design got better in Z3 onwards to accomodate for the field of view.
>>
>>9272996
FOV is why I said nope on the series. It is nice they got better.
>>
>>9272138
Mega man lore is gangsta. Nigga have you played Zero? Legends? Nigga the whole series is a metaphor about industrial relations and man losing himself through technology (even BN achieves this)
>>9272171
The Repliforce Rebellion was meant to show that Maverick Hunter are sketchy cunts who will just accuse anybody of being a Maverick
>>9272227
Legends is good too. ZX never got a third game to really get the ball rolling but I like what we had
>>9272809
YOOOOO
>>
>>9272809
I wonder if planned implications were going to be that Model X/Trigger became the origins of a true free will software which was used to create the free wills of the Carbons synthetic race.

Besides 3, i always wanted a 2.5D Legends prequel covering some kind of conflict between the Mega Men models, maybe that could have been a ZX3, ending with a "factory reset" of Trigger reverting him into an infant form with maybe his memory banks removed and converted into Data.
>>
>>9272138
>nooo!! Good games aren't allowed to have an engaging or intriguing plot that raises the stakes or emotional connection to the segments you are playing through!!
>>
>>9273461
X was the first reploid with free will way before Carbons and supplementary materials do state reploids themselves have varying degrees of free will depending on which era they were made. The government in-universe pushes the narrative reploids are perfectly safe and there's absolutely nothing wrong with treating them as second-class citizens and if any reploid turns aggresive or against humanity, it was due to a malfunction in their electronic brains (Vile) or a computer virus that was being broadcast from an ancient laboratory (Sigma, the X2 bosses, X3 bosses, X5, X7...), Lumine pushes against this when claiming they're going "Maverick at will", that next gen reploids have actually decided to fuck the old world. Officially, they're malfunctioning, but even Man-O-War denies it.
>I'm not a Maverick. I am perfectly aware of my own actions.
Dr. Weil always disagreed with how the Maverick conflict ended in-canon with X using the Mother Elf to completely delete all remnants of the Sigma virus. According to the dramas and written material, even in his youth Weil resented and despised reploids because their free will means virus or no virus they would rebel against their creators just the same in spite of the government's denial of it. Weil wanted reploids to be tools like mechinaloids are, nothing more. we don't know what happened between ZXA and Legends, but at least we know the Master of Elysium greatly limited the free will Mega Men and other Units could have, save for Trigger, who's simply described as "a very ancient robot". This is me reaching for straws, but Master Thomas claimed he had attained the original Reploid data (X's documentation left by Dr. Light which only Ciel would understand), so maybe Makoto Yabe was going for that approach. This is purely me guessing though.
>>
>>9273487
one of the few things i have to give credit to inticreates is realizing that reploids no rebelling out of free will is stupid, well just inafraud things
also making sentient ia robots be animals is stupid af, not to mention there no stated reasons why reploids weren't trashed after x1
>>
Z1 had a terrible fucking lives system. Did some hack ever correct this?
>>
>>9273605
Makoto Yabe solely deserves the credit for that as the scenario writer as Inti are writing themselves into the exact same hole with Gunvolt 3, with Adepts becoming rogue "Dragons" due to a form of radiation emmited from Azure Spirits, essentially the exact same as the Maverick Virus and if they do turn out to be fragments of Asimov's soul, we would go full circle with Asimov being the Sigma stand-in in Gunvolt in more ways than one.

People blame Inafune for a lot of the writing mishaps but the virus was set up during pre-production as a concept by the Mega Man 5 planner who also served as the X1 director IIRC. Inafune's best work has always been as a producer of and supervisor for gameplay, we got shit like wall jumping trying to evolve the classic gameplay further and Copen's air dashing gameplay from him actually looking back on what went mechanically wrong with MN9. IDK why people keep bringing up Inafune when his input on the plot were only key scenarios. Stuff like
>I want Zero to fall in love and then painfully lose it as his character turn from cocky to bitter
>I want X and Zero to fight
>I want the grand finale to involve a catastrophic event
I think the most involved he ever was with a game's plot was with Legends after reading Iwamoto's X1 manga and being motivated for Mega Man to have more focus on plot, as well as some stuff in BN3.

>>9273717
Z1 on the collection has checkpoints that bypass the life system. They even have spiffy new sprites for them.

I don't genuinly believe Legends actually follows from Classic-X-Z-ZX/ZXA. There's no concrete evidence to support it, while at the same time there's not much to explicitely say it doesn't either.

Using terms from the previous games feels more like just recycling existing content similar to how Battle Network makes Netnavis out of Robot Masters and other charater names or how its version of Dr Light was Lan's grandfather.
>>
>>9274131
The Japanese dialogue activelly adresses "Aberrants" as Irregulars, the Japanese name for Mavericks, and when Data requests Juno's backup to be deleted he used the suspicion of going Irregular as the reason to, while Juno himself is programmed to treat Carbons over-populating as Irregular Behavior. The supposed next halcyon days would happen according to I forgot what the fuck calendar after the year 8000, which matches the now-confirmed date of 80XX as of Rockman 11 Production Book. Unlike over here, the Japanese Rockman fandom treated "DASH" as the inevitable future of the series day one on BBSs, seems like some kids magazine over there confirmed it but I don't have evidence for once other than Japanese randos telling me "dude trust me".

Finally, Makoto Yabe's own word as he joined Inti Creates to write Zero and ZX, he was told about Legends and dedicated to start writing how the world would lead to that, which led to the Ciel System storyline and it's byproduct, the Quantum Refractor.

IIRC, Hideki Ishikawa, one of the people responsible for Legends said in his twitter that Legends is basically Mega Man's Turn-A Gundam. Super far into the future previous events aren't necessary to enjoy, but knowing them makes the experience better. Guy answers a lot of cool shit albeit on broken english on twitter, like answering questions regarding the purpose of Carbons and the like.

Yup. And in their Japanese dialogues, both also refer to Elysium as "HEAVEN" (similar to how the space colony monoliths are deployed from to perform carbon purges is named EDEN).

That anon brought up MMBN, but BN was written with the idea of "what if Dr. Light got laid and went for network research instead of being a bachelor in robotics? What changes?"
It's hilarious to think the fate of humanity soley rests on Dr. Light's sex life.

As someone who loves the X series and particularly X6, I personally just don't like how the Zero games play. I really like how in X6 you can get tons of upgrades and even skip entire stages once you learn the game well and I really like experimenting with parts, and I feel like Zero's moveset in that game once you gain all the techniques is the most fun he has ever been. In the Zero games, you don't really get anywhere near as much freedom - those games focus way more on the player perfecting them, which is fine, but that requires rejecting using elves at all (until Zero 3 and 4, which fixed this), or if you instead go for elves, you lose out on the EX Skills and you will have to grind a lot in Zero 1. Not to mention that Zero 1 in general really isn't that fun, and Zero 2 is also pretty meh in my opinion. I think Zero 3 and 4 are good games, definitely, but as I've said, they're not really the kind of Mega Man game I am interested in.
>>9268967
X6 Xtreme is really fun, but it's not really faster. Sure, you can use the movement modifier parts, but as others have pointed out, your main animations need to end - which I prefer, since it feels more satisfying due to the cancellable slashes feeling a bit too weak in the Zero series for me, but that's just my preference.

Nintendo has constant shit net code because they can't into 2010 much less 2020.
Konami's Japan division has yet to release a Yugioh multi-player game that isn't susceptible to client side injections because they can't into anticheat.

But sure. Cope about trannies and niggers you faggot.

As a fan of the Zero series but not really a fan of the X games, I always assumed it was because X gradually becomes a side character in his own series while Zero shoves him out of the way because Inafune(?) or whomever it was drafted Zero as concept art that was originally going to be for X, but Capcom thought the design was too much, so they drafted up a new design for X that looked more like classic Megaman, but Inafune(?) wanted to push his OC so he made kept pushing for Zero to have a bigger and bigger role in the X series, and eventually Zero got his own series, where X doesn't really have a series all to his own and was almost humiliated in the Zero series by making him a cyber elf, and maybe even was going to be the original villain...
I thought that was the reason, but I guess not

Inti not being allowed to intereact with Value Wave was an interview Aizu once gave a few years back to either Famitsu or Dengeki, I forgot which, and Makoto Yabe mentioned it as well in his Rockman Zero/ZX Double Hero Collection interview for Rockman Unity when asked in regards to Model A. To Yabe, because Model A IS Axl's DNA Soul, the bottlecap in the forehead helmet, where Axl's sapphire orb would be, is a seal keeping Lumine at bay after X8, or at least that was his logic behind Model A's design. If the bottlecap were to be removed, Lumine would be free once more.

judging by this thread, they're simply god awful at video games

cyber elves are a crutch and were properly treated as such, the games were fully designed to be beatable without them or the EX skills. the EX skills were a bonus for skilled play, they made you feel awesome for stepping up to the plate but you didn't feel like you were missing something vital if you missed out on nabbing one either. it's simply good, rewarding game design.

zero 1's mission system was extremely dumb but you were able to circumvent it pretty easily. zero 2 was a plain great game, it still kept the weird EXP system but there was no "grinding" to be had, you simply played the game normally and it'd come to you. 3 dropped it entirely which was admittedly for the better, probably the most solid all around entry.

they control extremely tightly and have great challenging level and boss design. meanwhile the X series outside of X1, which is admittedly godly, is a hell of a mixed bag.

i wish zx had been better, lots of creative ideas but it was a hell of a quality dip as a result of said experimentation.
>>
why do people bring up grinding xp? literally never did that and beat all 4 games, i beat 1-3 without using any elfs and only used a healing elf in 4 during the final bosses second phase.
>>
>>9284973
Because they are sobbing 30-40 year olds who played the shit out of X1 and Mega Man 2 (and only those two) so they know them like the back of their hand; thus, when Mega Man Zero presents them a newfound challenge, they say it's too hard/bad design and feel like they are forced to grind to beat the first boss kek
>>
>>9285000
i thought millennials liked a challenge and that zooms had it easy and were soft, what happened? it’s not even like the zero games are that hard after you beat the first one anyways. zero 2 and 3 are pretty easy if youve beat the first game. i beat some bosses in zero 2 with only one hand while eating chicken nuggets from burger king.

Pantheons are smarter than Mechaniloids, and on the level of Reploids when it comes to battle tactics and combat but they've been intentionally degraded in that it seems like that's all they're capable of. They can find their way around the battle field but they don't have the level of sapience necessary to develop a personality or create social connections. Also it seems like they were originally intended to be a hivemind of Starro-style face huggers that latched onto Reploids who'd been judged as Mavericks.

Also I feel I always assumed the big issue with Copy X is that like Cain, Ciel didn't understand Light's work anywhere near the level she thought she did, filled in the gaps with her own research, didn't know to perform the necessary ethical testing the original X was subjected to, resulting in Copy X never developing the moral backbone the original came out of his capsule with.

>>
>>9287621
Which is a shame, because it casts her as an unwitting villain. It's why I wished they had just kept the whole "It really is X, but all the decades of war have led him to being a nihilist".
>>
>>9280624
Zero's design in X has a lot more white in it in general so the white pelvis area doesn't stand out as much, whereas his Zero design doesn't have much white in it at all except for his pelvis so it looks way more like a diaper.
>>
>>9287765
X would never become a nihilist. Even when he was a whiny faggot in X7 he was ultimately sticking to his ideals. Dr Light made sure X wouldn't go evil
>>
>>9287765
Yeah it puts her more in line again with Dr. Cain. Well-meaning but ultimately led to disaster. Almost every problem in the series after classic can be traced back to future generations just not understanding Light's work or reasoning for the things he did. It's like Metal Gear and how every problem in the series stems from everyone misunderstanding The Boss's will in their own ways.
>>
>>9287771
ZX fixed this by making it a belt with a codpiece
>>
>>9287774
Light didn't evil-proof him; he just made sure that X would understand the weight of his actions. If he's incapable of doing wrong, he has no true free will. The whole point is that he actually thinks like a human being and no one could withstand a 100 years of their action doing jack shit nothing without breaking.

If I recall correctly, MMZ2 states, in Ciel's computer, that the Guardians were built from X's "Body Parts".
Body Parts is how X's armors he gets from Dr. Light are called in Japan, so this has created some theories among the Japanese fandom that:
>Harpuia is the Falcon Armor given a face and with the split fragment of X's DNA Soul that embodies his sense of duty
>Fefnir is the Gaea Armor with X's DNA Soul fragment that embodies the restrained love of battle Squid Adler accused X of always having and calling him a hypocrite
>Phantom is the Shadow Armor and is the DNA fragment that represents X's resourcefulness to commit to his ideals no matter the cost
>Leviathan is the base blue armor modified for underwater movement and... I guess part of X is dainty? I guess X do really want to bang Zero IDK.
Cyber Elf X is the last remain of his DNA Soul, X's mercy and inability to think of human lives as more precious than reploid lives and vice versa after all the ethical tests.

Copy X is the first 1:1 copy of X minus the ethical tests. turns out those were important. He's also confirmed to be using the Ultimate Armor, it's why he has the Nova Strike.

...is X a feisty warrior deep down? I also think Leviathan was meant to be a subtle nod to this scene
>>
>>9288851
According to Squid Adler, yeah. Adler claims he can see beyond X's fascade of a pacifist, that when the battle becomes unavoidable, he engages with everything and loves every moment of it. Apparently X's hypocricy (from Adler's perspective) was more the reason for him to retire from the Hunters rather than Octopus going Maverick.

The original reason X was going to be evil (which was alluded as far back as X1's warning screen) was the ending of X5 in which X gets factory reset by Dr. Light and goes somewhat mental as his brain gets rewired to not accept any input that has anything to do with Zero. Dr. Light would've unadvertedly undone the 30 years of ethical testings. However, both X6 being made behind Inafune's back and the Inti's staff own feelings regarding making X turn against reploids caused to come up with the Copy plot very late into development. It is thought that originally it was Dr. Light who gives Zero the Z-Saber back, you can see a reference to this in the archie comic where Dr. Light has a vision of the Elf Wars and you can see him as a cyber elf
>>

X5's very own ending, the X bad ending.
>Dr. Light Hologram: ......... ...Not yet... Actually, I want you to rest and relax for now... Hold on, X... ... Just for a few more moments. ... Forget all the painful memories...

>One Week Later
>Douglas: But...why was only Zero's memory data deleted from X?
>Signas: I have no idea... maybe it disappeared by itself? Otherwise it was deleted on purpose...
>Alia: Besides, there's a protection, now. He won't even accept data related to Zero... I couldn't program such a protection... We've got another mystery about X...

>Hunter A: ... Captain X... ...Don't you remember anything about what happened?
>X: ... You're still on about that? The answer is No. I don't remember anything...
>Hunter B: ...You see? Captain Zero and Captain X are both special A level Hunters for all to see. You worked together and solved a lot of problems.
>X: I remember Sigma. His name doesn't leave me... But I don't have any memory of Zero. Maybe whoever repaired me deleted the data by mistake.
>Hunter B: Did...did he really delete your memory?

>Hunter A: Captain X. Although it will take time, I think this battle will lead to peace.
>X: It will. We need to work harder for that... For peace...
>Hunter B: What is your private dream?
>X: Huh?... I've never thought about it... Well... I've got it! I want to create "Elysium".
>Hunters: Elysium...?
>X: Yes! It's a paradise where the human race coexists with Reploids peacefully... Yes... that is my dream... I'd like to create "Elysium"... Someday in the near future...
>Hunter B: I wish Captain Zero were here...
>X: Huh? You're talking about Zero again?
>Hunter B: No, nothing...
>X: "Elysium"... Oh yes...I'll do it someday...

Aizu did confirm once they found out about X6 near the end of Z1's development they had to scramble and rewrite the ROM's story to fit with the new Mega Man X canon, Copy X had to be written in. Z1 has a few plot holes as a result that got patched through CD Dramas amd tje book.
>>
At the end of the day everything in Zero 1 was just a not so subtle attempt to homage Mechanical Violator Hakaider and I can't really blame them for that because it's a fucking rad movie.
>>
>>9290381
It's really on the series' DNA. Classic Mega Man was basically a homage to Astroboy and other 60's super hero boy shows of the day, X is Casshern. Even now, Gunvolt is Choujin Locke, even though the third game's plot suffered by forcing the reference to go full circle rather than just it being a homage.
>>
>>9290373
So headcanon. Light removing bad memories and not allowing data related to Zero was just your generic giving the hero happiness by taking away the bad memories and anything that would cause him sadness. Good ending is has Zero dead and X remembers him and doesn't look like his determination will waver at all. So the Zero series is just a bad end what if sequel which is now my headcanon.
>>
>>9290406
>So the Zero series is just a bad end what if sequel which is now my headcanon.
Not anymore, are you paying attention? The X5 bad ending isn't canon anymore and Zero 1 had to get rewritten in the last second to fit with the X series, it's the reason why the MMZ series don't give a set year as Capcom didn't even allow Inti Creates to be in contact with Value Wave, who were handling the X series from X5 onwards, causing the references to the X series to be either sparce or on suplementary material (such as the book stating the Jakob got damaged during the Maverick Wars and when the period of piece arrived, X and the government retrofitted it into Area X-2 where meetings would be held, and where you fight Copy X MK-II is the same spaceport you fight Vile Penta in X8). Had the Zero series kept X as the villain then yes, it would've been a timeline fork split, where X6 happens after X's good ending and Z1 happens after X's bad ending but that was not the case in the final release and the sequels and material hammer down that point, and even was reconfirmed once again in the Rockman 11 Production Book that everything in the robot timeline is a single canon, and finally gave us official dates for Zero, ZX and Legends (24XX, 26XX and 80XX in that order).
>>
>>9287445
Literally every robot since X1 besides Zero is a copy of X.
>>
>>9290696
They're replicas of X's basic function as an "android with free will", yes, but they're not 1:1 copies, per Dr. Cain's own admision in his journal he had to make do with alternatives as he didn't fully understand X's specifications. Some Japan-only printed media state even the very first batch of reploids, while a step over the old Robot Masters, didn't had the same level of free will X enjoys, and even the earliest Mavericks are believed to have been due glitching and errors in their electronic brains, such is supposedly the case of Vile.
Copy X was the first 1:1 copy of X ever created and from there the four guardians were made from X's Body Parts and remains of his DNA Soul following him using his body to seal half of the Dark Elf's data on top of the Yggdrasil.
>>
>>9290723
I know about the reploid the history. I was putting it plainly for the other anon.
Copy X was only a 1:1 reploid copy in terms of hardware, as evidenced by his AI diverging from real X's real ideals and suffering circuit experience like all the others. It may be a "better" copy, but it still a reploid all the same, and still lacking what makes X, really X.
>>
>>9290737
The key element, the one thing Dr. Light did that Ciel did not was the 30 years of ethical testing. The tests basically served to program the suffering circuit to work as a moral compass, I'm not saying Copy X would've been a 1:1 imitation of X's personality but at least had the time been there and Ciel had known X went decades of tests (not like the government would've allowed it, they needed a public figurehead NOW rather than admit publicly admit X was dead), Copy X would've at least hopefully been a decent reploid. But he was a newborn without a moral compass fed up curated data on the guy he's replacing and what he needs to be a hero.
Oh woops, but "reploids are just machines right? If we're having an energy crisis why don't we just get rid of them? Humans would love that!"

I'm sure you know this already but it's fascinating nonetheless to see what X could've potentially been like had Dr. Light not had the foresight to test his reliability.
>>
>>9290753
Nobody would expect a child genius to bother with ethical tests when all she wanted to do was bring back a war hero for short-term benefit, let alone bring back a war hero who is also a walking armageddon without a backup plan to shut him down after his first public speech to calm people down.
What really fucks with the idea of Copy X is the fact that he just becomes Genghis Khan and starts a genocide to solve an energy crisis despite not malfunctioning or having his AI fucked with by a virus or anything like the typical oversimplified "we have a problem, so lets kill everyone" logic, which says more about Ciel's competence than Cain's, whose reploids only really had actual malfunctions.
Not once did he study how Neo Arcadia thrived under the original X's leadership and suggest reploid decommissions (which could lead to civil unrest over individual rights and thus add some real meat to the reason why he starts killing them) or him being convinced by Dr. Weil that he should get rid of the reploids due to his AI's innocence, which would also make sense and add a fresh, ironic spin with the idea that Wily is in control of X and Zero has to play the role X played way back in X5.

Because the GBA is less powerful than the PS1. It was very common for portable games to go for the chibi look due to this. Zero looked like a chibi/more childlike in the original SNES games as well. Only major difference between the designs is that it's sleeker. Not to mention original NES Megaman where X is literally a kid.

reasonable post.
X and Zero were literally supposed to be 14 in the X series too.

People who want to see X and Zero as these macho non-faggy manly men aren't looking at what they really were. The designs were as camp and silly as Adam West Batman.
MMZ Zero is much more literally muscular and macho, technically.
In fact it may be the fact that he's basically a naked samurai in nothing but boots and a fundoshi, and that you're asked to take it more seriously that puts these people off; but calling them calling the X designs less faggy is so strange to me.
There's a strong argument that the Zero series is less gay, and that MMZ Zero is even more of a raw expression of brutal masculinity, basically rocking out with just a sword and his cock out
Comes through somewhat in the Japanese versions of the games with blood splatters, or the concept art for Z1 like this >>9287526 where the pantheons are made from civilians with those facehugger things, or the Solid Snake early version of X. Zero's jacket is literally supposed to be a bulletproof vest. This shit was all supposed to be very raw and awesome in a way that's not immediately obvious.

Megaman really should've gone its own way instead of chasing after existing properties/japanese capeshit.
I like how they look in the X series because the designs clearly look like some parts are not miniaturized yet hence why the bulky armor, but over time technology improves and so do the designs. In fact the reason behind the reploid designs in X8 looking sleeker was because the designers and writers wanted to depict the improvements reploids were receiving over time, with less bulky leg/arm parts, seams along the Titanium-X skin parts to represent modularity, etc. but it still maintained the kinda boxy kinda round robotic silhouette that's very recognizable and well-departed from the likes of Casshern.

That's just not how creativity works. Astro Boy and Casshern are hardly original either, and Mega Man is full of references to other media. Off the top of my head, there's tons of talk of "retiring" "reploids", which is a lot like the idea of Bladerunners "retiring" "replicants".
Originality doesn't just spring out of the aether, everything has its influence.

Mega Man X arguably already was something that was moving away from its influences and was developing its own style, culminating in games like X8 which is a pretty well developed version of the Mega Man X world, and MMZ took the series even further from its original influences.

So I don't really understand what you're saying unless what you're really saying is you're hopelessly nostalgic for the style of the X series, which is fine, but you could have just said that instead.
But if you are, you're eventually going to have to reckon with the fact that you like camp style.

>But if you are, you're eventually going to have to reckon with the fact that you like camp style.
Addendum to that, the X series designs are almost as faggy to me as this pic >>9291001, and that's fine, that's fun. That's camp style, and it's a fun style!
You can see X8 Zero here >>9280624 and even with the explanation that he's supposed to be a robot, he still looks like a superhero with his underpants on the outside, and that's fun. That's a fun design. Kinda silly, but that's honestly the point. Superhero stuff, including Mega Man is ultimately supposed to be light hearted stuff at its core.

Sorry, this is just a personal axe to grind for me. I just don't understand people who talk about the X designs like they're taking them so seriously and think they're extra heterosexual compared to stuff like MMZ Zero, when MMZ Zero goes out of its way to make the characters look like mechanical androids wearing bulletproof vests, at least in the early art, which to me is an awesome update of the style of the X games, but somehow this shit's too faggy for X fans to touch?
I like both, and at the end of the day I don't really care what the internet thinks, so it's not a big deal, but I read over this thread and it's just hilarious to me.

How old is the average X fan anyway? It's not zoomers getting nostalgic for X, they don't even know this series exists

In an innocent way rather than crooked politician way, Copy X really care more about his approval numbers. Ever since the X series, reploids have always been second class citizens, an actual real concern Sigma brings to the Repliforce General in their secret meeting. If any reploid dared speak against his masters then woops he's a maverick, reitre him. That kind of makes Copy X fascinating, you have a literal child wanting to be loved and appreciated by the human population which to him are the ones who really matter, maybe even his parents to him.

The Eight Gentle Judges did raise concerns against X's "sudden personality change and decisions" once the Copy replaced the original, but Harpuia basically shot them now they're not to "question Master X", lest they wish to be labelled as Mavericks and taken to Aztec Falcon's gulag.

you know, is it ever explained why Zero and X's bodies became more slim in the future?
>>
>>9291431
Apparently as technology improved, the balance pieces in robot bodies became much more efficient and havign such thick protection wasn't necessary anymore, thus allowing for their frames to be more human-like. Roll herself, being an old robot, has popeye arms and thick calves (sometimes just wearing boots like in MM8) because of those balancing parts that allow them to walk, and not collapse when encountered by stairs.

Lore-wise, Zero series were suppose to took place on X series and Zero was suppose to be main character but Capcom didn't like this and they forced the team to make the X series as how we know them today.
Zero series were the ability of the team to put out some of what it was suppose to be only on handheld and extremely changed.
Personally looking at Zero using a fucking pistol disappointed me asking myself where the fuck is the buster and what shit was what I was playing. Then I realized is more RPG focused and the story-telling is waaaaaaaaay to fucking deep and that's good but bad too, cuz guess what lot of Rockman players care about lore but not as deep and executed as how it was on Zero series. For the typical player all Zero games across feel the same, look the same and are the "same" maybe was fair comparing to OG series but released after X series, those feel really odd, also character design, yes those designs aren't the best ones looking. To fix all this thoughts is quite easy, the problem is the game being called <<Megaman>> Zero but yeah is a name that sells, no way changing that, preferable to screw over on Zero, right? Cuz money, dah - Capcom.

Technically Reploids are those robots based on X's schematics, Zero gets called a Reploids though because he's as advanced as Reploids. I would say Zero does absorb boss weapons (except for Z1 LOL) such as the screen nukes, elemental swords, and all those buster EX skills
>>
>>9293081
X is technically a Robot Master. The first reploid was whoever Cain build upon discovering X and attempting to reverse engineer it, since they're replicas of X they're "Replica Android".

>>9292186
According to the Development document shared by the planner on twitter a while back, they roughly began working on each other's project around the same time but the popular theory from the 00's (popularized by Bob and George) was that in MM7, after Bass attacked Light's lab and stole data from the computer, X's pre-planning was there and Wily began working on his own, Zero.

It is canon Wily was always better with hardware and Light was better than software, while X needed 30 years to confirm his reliability, Wily made Zero with the intention of being a war machine from the getgo, but his program was riddled with mistakes and became difficult to control. Wily sealed him to finish him (both program and body) later but died before he could finish him. The "good Zero" we all know is actually the real Maverick Zero, because Zero was already "the baddest robot by design", the virus made him essentially have an evil stack overflow and looped back into being good. The virus "fixed" Zero by breaking his program further, but this wasn't what Wily ever intended. Hence X2 and X5.

Weil would later fix Zero's ill-willed program as Omega while Ciel's ancestor handled Zero's good program, which served as the template for the Mother Elf antivirus program.
>>

There's a double meaning to Replica Android. A replica of X, and of the human brain!

The rolling slash is so satisfying in this, oh and the music omg. If you get the Steam version you can install a mod to get the HQ album versions of the soundtracks https://youtu.be/9EMsG82tuX4

They could probably have fit text in all the different languages without losing the English dub, but in Yurop it's considered offensive to treat English better than other languages, and it would've been expensive to record dubs for all the other languages, so they'd rather strip every language down to the same level of capability. True crab mentality.
Not that I would ever defend the English dub of ZXA. What total ass.

The voice dialogues are hardcoded on a weird way where they're tied to the dialogue boxes, it's the same reason why one can't undub the game by simply swapping files with DSlazy and the undub patches are actually translation patches for the Japanese versions. Pretty sure that was the reason the EUR version was just voiceless.
