You got the variable name wrong, is probably the issue
r_viewmodel_quake 1 (without the "draw") makes the weapon behave like the original software quake implementation, where it isn't rigidly fixed to the screen but changes position based on the angle you're looking up or down by (simulating the change in how you hold the gun if you're pointing it up or down). It also has the effect that in the neutral position the gun is further forward compared to the screen-locked version that was the default behavior in glquake.

Only partly. As mentioned in one of the last threads, I have been hijacking XDeath frames to give them a ZzZ animations since we're going goreless, but it's more of an extended death animation instead of actually animated corpses. The problem is that viles only seem to be able to resurrect from -1 frame states, so permanently animated corpses are not possible without interfering with resurrection abilities.
And since resurrection is predestined to work with a WAKE UP CALL!!!!, I'd rather just have a bit of slumber instead of coma.

I spent a little fixing the wads of the Unity version. Nowadays while not perfect they're mostly fine I guess and having more options to play a game never hurts anybody, so and I just wanted to share these with all of you.
I included all the current wads available that needed fixing. (Wads like Sigil and Double Impact didn't need fixing).
I restored:

>Ultimate Doom E4M1 contains the Nine Inch Nails reference.
>Doom 2 contains the Nazi imagery plus the og nazi alert clip.
>Evilution contains the TNT31.WAD fix
>Final Doom episodes contain the Widescreen fix. For some reason they forgot to include it in the wads.

In that case, I'll try and make some TITLEPIC and ENDOOM concept art in the meantime; maybe drum-up some enthusiasm for the project. But only because my 512 Lines ENDOOM got positive reception.
Also, if anybody wants to start aggregating MIDIs for mappers' perusal, I'd start with "Alone In The World" from Wild Arms (400 Minutes of /vr/ MAP29) or "Waltz of the Lazy Chair Room" (100 Line Massacre MAP13) because if nobody else does it, that's where I'm starting.

Not necessarily limited to Nakatomi Plaza, could be a combination of Die Hard and other christmas / winter time action movies. Just spitballing, I don't have a good enough of a grasp of the Doom level editors (I have interest to learn, it would just take time to become proficient enough to create something worth sharing).

I was thinking we could use pic-rel as one of the monsters, called Rocketman on Realm667. The sprite looks janky as hell, but he looks like a fat Russian/terrorist, which fits the theme. I could probably rig him up to to shoot exploding grenades or something.

I also want people to answer this in case they mention good music mods, but to also answer the question I like Message for the Arch Vile and Bye Bye American Pie. Just finished the 3rd level in theif. I enjoyed this level much more than the second level, which is the prison breakout. The prison level felt kind of tedious and frustrating, maybe its just growing pains with getting used to the controls and game logic. You know as well as I do that sometimes mappers put Pain Elementals in spots where you can't immediately shoot them intentionally to cause a lost soul pileup. At that point it's not a matter of skill, it's a matter of ammo of having the patience to shoot all of the little bastards it spawns. Because having to shoot clouds of screaming skulls isn't very fun if all you have is a shotgun or a chaingun.
Now if there's clear sight of the meatball and an opportunity to shoot it, that's 100% on the player for not killing it.

Looks like the author went out of ideas a third in or it was his first map. First a demon/imp cloud (easily cheesable), then a Caco cloud (easily cheesable), then a chaingunner room (easily cheesable), then a knight room (easily cheesable).
Way too little infighting possibility and way too few pickups.
The armor/health secret is visible from the outside on the automap, didn't check the other one, but at least you put it there to give people a way out of the inescapable pit.
Got softlocked in the last room because the pillars didn't properly rise, or I missed to jump on a particular one in time. Didn't bother anymore with trying to reach them from the elevator.

Monthly /vr/mondo post. We now have three submissions with a fourth coming when I stop being lazy and upload it. This year has been chock full of community projects which has been great. If you've made something this year and can't find another place for it then consider submitting it here.

The /vr/ Mondo Project is a rip-off of the Doomworld Mega Project series. The purpose of the project to encourage creativity and bolster /vr/ as a mapping and modding community.
RULES:
- Submit as times as you would like by the end of 2022. Updates are allowed.
- Any kind of playable custom content for any DOOM IWAD is considered a valid submission. Maps, gameplay mods, etc.
- Include the phrase "/vr/ Mondo Project" with your submission so that I can find them all.

The submissions will be compiled into a zip with each submission given its own folder. Please include a txt with some information about how to play your submission and credits for any resources used.
I will be reposting this at the start of each new month. Please do not add this project to the news post.

The secrets were manually entered by somebody, tho; I think he does those all manually.

This felt a bit like a Doom 1 map (which I don't mean in a bad sense, in fact replaying Doom 2 it's again becoming obvious just how much better level design of 1 is). Made a tactical mistake at the start when grabbing the berserk too early. Was I supposed to get the plasma secret by straferunning or was there a switch somewhere? Also, the exit room, while being a nice surprise (provided you didn't already know it was something that opens by not UNFing when looking for secret doors) at first glance, was not that exciting considering I still had like 50 rockets left and just had to keep lmb pressed until everything was dead. The rising and lowering platforms were a cool setup for the Mastermind, but since I could just hide behind another corner and peek from there while having no incentive to actually enter the area, it fell a bit flat.

I am rather content with how shitty the faces look, but I think I went a bit overboard with the detailing on the door. From afar you don't even see it's not the original one.

Tried another concept with the sleeping cap, this time I basically just took the actual helmet and gave it a point. I like how the glow is more subtle, akin to the original helmet.

How is that not contradictory? You just described them as having opposite functions. Staying in the level longer is entirely for the purpose of reaching the end of the level. Otherwise, you could say "dying is getting out of the level faster" as well, because you lose health and... stay asleep? Which is the same as getting the keys to... Also sleep.
In gameplay terms, Health and Keys are both things that contribute (broadly) to forward progression. We should establish whether the point of the WAD is that "beating levels = deeper sleep" or "beating levels = waking up", because that should determine whether Health is "Awake" or "Asleep", and consequently, whether healing items wake you up (coffee) or put you to sleep (hot cocoa), and therefore, which adverse outcome death represents.

So yeah, the idea was that every exit has to be a bed, so basically the goal is not to reach an "exit", but to not fall asleep on the ground or something because you have an actual bed waiting for you. Doomguy just wants to get some shut-eye and there he is *again* in *another* demon invasion and he's just so, so tired.
As of now, as you can also see in the screenshots, health is "awake".

Writing this I also have "insomnia" somewhere in the back of my head, but no idea how to employ it.

Consider what the Baron has going for it:

So what you have is a hard hitting and imposing enemy who can get around most architecture you can, and he's one which you can't really afford to ignore too much in a lot of circumstances, because if he corners you he will rape you, and it takes either a serious focus with lighter ammo or expending a fair bit of heavy ammo to make him go away. Even with the SSG giving you a reliable stun, you've gotta score numerous full hits to wear him down.

His big healthbar is one of this key assets, so he's really threatening if used correctly, being stuck in a cramped space with a Baron is oppressive as fuck in a way which a Knight just can't replicate. With a cramped space, you can't really afford to use Rockets if that is what you have, so the player may be forced to try to grind him down with the Shotguns, straight up duke it out with this giganigger if they have a Berserk pack (and at great risk), or simply trying to avoid him as best as they can until they can flee and return with better ordnance later, optionally luring him into a trap or fighting other monsters.

He isn't perhaps as flexible or complex as the Boner or Archie, but if you're creative he's a complete menace. Consider also that the large group of Barons in Tricks & Traps will usually defeat the Cyberdemon. A ball of these meatheads can conquer a lot.

What's the best way to play Blood these days? I bought Blood Fresh Supply when it came out, but heard about various issues it had that ruined it for people familiar with the game. I stopped playing in the hope that they'd patch it, but last I checked(a few months after release) it was still busted. I think I've also heard mixed things about GDX, so I'm not sure what to go with. I've also got One Unit Whole Blood, if that might be a good option.

GDX has some difficulty customization if you’re used to that from Fresh Supply, but it needs you to check “palette emulation” for an appropriate look. Nblood/Raze look fine out of the box and have better custom map compatability. There’s a fork of Nblood called Not Blood if you really really want to use Nblood with some other features like custom difficulty.
Basically: GDX and Nblood are great, have fun. If you play the Deathwish mod, please play it with the custom music or you’re missing out.
