Kirby's Dream Land 3 is a monument to bad game design. The SNES deserved a better sendoff.
>>9023998>Kirby's Dream Land 3 is a monument to bad game design. How? It's comfy, ez, and fun.
>>9023998>monument to bad game designmore like, you're a monumental faggot. DL3 is not a perfect game, but it's fun to play and co-op makes it even better
>>9023998oof are you fucking kidding me?i thought it was pretty goodmaybe not as good as kdl2 but its a far-cry from being "BAD" anon
>[POPULAR THING] is bad because...Summer's here, lads.
>>9024193DL3 is a step down from Super Star in every way. Ultra slow, kiddy art style, and gimmicky levels where you have to help NPCs to 100% the game by solving inane puzzles or playing lame minigames. What were HAL thinking?
>>9024231the overall aesthetic is wonderful thoughplus the soundtrack SLAPS
>>9024231>Ultra slowNo slower than other Kirby games>kiddy art styleIt's gorgeous>and gimmicky levels where you have to help NPCs to 100% the gameUsually amounts to finding a single pick-up in an area at requires the slightest bit of secret-hunting>or playing lame minigamesWhich are pretty trivial reflex tests
>>9024231>kiddy art style>in kirby
>>9024053Well first you have to get EVERY Heart Star to see the true ending, and most of them are insanely cryptic unless you have a guide open next to you, and then they're just incredibly tedious. Most of them involve a bunch of steps after you're already deep into the level and if you fuck up once you have to start the level all over again. The manual and game do a terrible job of explaining your abilities and how you can use them to interact with things. It's just not fun.
>>9024220Why do people make retorts like this? All it does is make it clear that for some reason you are taking criticism of a video game personally and can't handle it.
>>9024401>—Kirby's Dream Land 3 is… le bad>—it sure is summer in here>—omg why are you seething so hard you cant handle criticism sweetie??buddy, there is "criticism", and there is "just shitting on a good game without any arguments". guess which category does OP's post fall into
>>9024471>buddy, there is "criticism", and there is "just shitting on a good game without any arguments". guess which category does OP's post fall intoWell guess what, he followed it up with >>9024393
>>9024393>>9024531>Well first you have to get EVERY Heart Star to see the true endingwow, almost like many other games? it's almost like the game has a reward for 100% completion.>most of them are insanely cryptic unless you have a guide open next to younot most of them, but some of them. I'd say every world has 1-2 of them. this is the only more or less legitimate complaint about the game you've made. even then half the tasks don't even require much thinking>Most of them involve a bunch of steps after you're already deep into the level and if you fuck up once you have to start the level all over again.the levels are short and easy enough. having to replay a level to collect everything is a staple in collectathons. you can go back to them any time too
>>9024531>>9024561You're both pretty.
>>9024471I'll admit that OP could have elaborated on what aspect of the game is bad design but your response is also an undetailed accusation which doesn't help.
>>9023998>The SNES deserved a better sendoff.Good thing that SNES died in 2000, not in 1997.
>>9023998>t. filtered by R.O.B. puzzle
>>9024053the level design is fucking awful.
>>9024193Shit taste faggot. Dreamland 2 is way better than DL3
>>9025131The only good part about this game was that level with the ROB puzzle. The rest of the game is pretty bland
>>9024393>tfw horrible auditory memory so I can't get the starsfbm
>>9025105The SFC died in 2000. The SNES died in 1998 (but KDL3 was the last major title so it effectively died 1997)
>>9024393>Well first you have to get EVERY Heart Star to see the true endingNah. More games should be like this. Most games doesn't do this anymore because locking content behind a gate that most players won't ever see is money wasted (disappointing, I know. There's never any good 100% rewards anymore). But if you know what you're doing, this is like a 3 hours game man> and most of them are insanely cryptic They're not that hard to figure out. Most of the stage's goal makes a sound when accessing the room with the objective and most objectives sticks out like a sore thumb and I figured out all this shit as a 10 years old with no Internet. The only one that really stumped me for a while was the Green/Purple spring thing in World 1 that you had to touch with the pink girl without any abilities. And maybe the Rick (The Hamster) stage one because I didn't know he could wall jump (you can cheese it with a second controller by making the second player teleport to you)>Most of them involve a bunch of steps after you're already deep into the level and if you fuck up once you have to start the level all over againThe levels are 3 minutes long dude
>>9023998I was visiting a friend and their kids around 10-12 yro were had their dads SNES they had both Kirby games and they were doing very poorly. I had time to burn. I don't remember where I started, just picked up where they were playing, early in the game. We were taking turns hand had gotten to the standard ending within 2hrs. The only reason I remember 2hrs was because their dads car broke down and he needed a lift from work, in 2hrs.All Kirby games are quick, short and easy. If you want 100% it takes a little more time.
>>9023998>monument to bad game designi never even played it and i can tell this is a bullshit bait post and the game is probably good.
>>9023998filtered
>>9029963I beat it, but it wasn't fun.
>>9024393The heart star thing is where I lose interest in playing it on every other playthrough. I've 100%'d it more than once, but I get severely bored by the time I get to the one where you need to put R.O.B. back together. I just want to get to the true final boss, which is among the best parts of the game, but it's such a boring slog to get there.
>>9023998You weren't kidding OP.>second (2nd) level has a room with some inexplicable creature in it that just sits there>try a bunch of shit>check FAQ out of frustration>oh, you were supposed to use the powerless form of the pink blob, because its neutral move is a 'hug' that makes things happy! :^)>immediately drag rom into recycle bin
>>9030086>>9029963
>>9023998Great looks and musicFun co-opKinda meh everything elseNot a bad game, not great either.
Pitch is the best partner.
>>9024231It's been a while since I played it, but I remember Kirby running much faster than he does in Super Star.
>>9024053All of those things are true, but for the love of god do not go for 100%
>>9026418Learn to read faggot. Post literally says not as good as DL2. Swallow glass
>>9031876Might as well not play it at all.
>>9031214> games with puzzles bad because they're making my brain ouch
>>9031953>literally zero context or explanation>puzzleEat shit.
>>9031964> do you mean I have to actually find a solution by myself instead of just looking into manual and be told what to doFirst world problems. Also, it's literally in the manual. It's supposed to come up with the game and be checked before playing. Not dev's problem that you don't have it.
>>9031983It's not a puzzle, you fucking retard. It's pure trial and error, in the most egregious sense. You have no contextual clues, and you have no way of knowing that this silent motionless creature with no explicable features needs anything. It's bullshit, and you're a kike.
>>9031987It gets more complex later in the game and you need to figure out different ability combinations to solve it. There are visual and sound hints that help you solving it. So it's a puzzle. You're simply got filtered so early in the game you've never saw actual puzzles. The equivalent of dying on tutorial. Congratulations.
>>9031992Go ahead and explain how the creature in 1-2 is 'justified' or 'explainable'. I'll wait.
>>9031992And I saw the first puzzle in level 1 (don't step on the flowers). That had context and explainability. Level 2 doesn't.
>>9031993You know that you don't have to immediately get Heart Star in every level? You can, like, go ahead and see how the mechanics are working. You can even finish the game with normal ending. And then, when you'll understand how it works and return to previous stages, you'll notice there are little to no options of what you can do with the creature, you'll subtract everything that won't work by your logic.Or you could just throw away ability and do a normal attack right at the start. It's really that simple.I don't know what else to say, it's a rookie test. KDL2 had it too and it was much more ass in my opinion, despite game being way smaller in amount of content.
>>9032013>doesn't attempt to justify itI accept your concession.
>>9032028Looks pretty justified to me. Lrn 2 reeding comprension
>>9024231>i only play games with mature cute pink blobs in them
>>9024250>slapsplease off yourself zoomer
>>9031983>Also, it's literally in the manual. No it's not, and I literally read through it before playing. Did you actually play the game or are you here just to troll?
https://strawpoll.com/polls/PKglzvB74yp
>>9032013>>9032253Not him but you did a pretty shitty job at justifying it. You basically just said "just try everything everywhere!" But the game and manual do a really shitty job at explaining the abilities.Out of the 48 animal buddy combinations, the manual only shows pictures for 6 of them. It tells you to find the rest on your own, and it even tells you that a bunch of them are useless. It doesn't explain how you can use any of them. It would have been really useful to know that Kine + Electricity can reveal secret doors! It doesn't help that there is little indication you can even interact with the creatures that need help. They aren't even solid objects for crying out loud, how are you supposed to know your abilities can affect stuff you can pass right through? On top of that, the animal buddies suck to use most of the time compared to Kirby himself, so why would you even want to experiment with them? Why did the game discourage experimenting with the abilities that are required to beat the game? Not to mention you're required to use some combos you'd never want to use otherwise. Like for example, for one of the Heart Stars you need to use Pitch + Broom to water some plants. Yeah, you read that right. Somehow, combining Pitch with the broom ability makes him lob a drop of water. How the fuck were you supposed to know that? And why would you combine the worst ability with one of the worst buddies? It's so unintuitive! It doesn't even clearly look like water either, it's a blue blob that's darker than the rest of the water in the game. And all of this is incredibly shitty because you are REQUIRED to get EVERY Heart Star to get the actual ending. It's not like DKC2 where the Lost World gives you a nice, extra-flashy, but optional ending. In Dream Land 3 it's incredibly obvious that the regular ending is not the real one. You didn't get to face off against the main villain of the game. You don't even get the real credits!
>>9024393>Well first you have to get EVERY Heart Star to see the true ending, and most of them are insanely cryptic unless you have a guide open next to youholy shit lmao. I found all the heart stars when I was fucking 7. You have to be an actual sped to not figure those out. Its a fucking BABY game anon. For literal children.
It's incredibly unfulfilling, but in order to get the real ending you have to suffer through the cryptic, tedious chore of collecting all the Heart Stars. It's a lose-lose situation. For all the flack they get for being cryptic, the first two Zeldas were nowhere near as obtuse as Kirby's Dream Land 3, and they came out 10 years earlier. There is no excuse. It's such a shame that the swan song for one of the greatest consoles of all time sucks this hard.
>>9034383>I found all the heart stars when I was fucking 7.*while my mom read me a walkthrough on GameFAQs
>>9034403Cope harder. You're an actual fucking moron if you cant figure these out.>>9034395Holy shit is this a common problem? Are people really this fucking dumb? ITS FUCKING KIRBY. You guys couldn't really figure out shit like this? Make the blocks match? LITERALFUCKINGBABYGAME
>>9034453>picThanks for posting another reminder of how obtuse this game is.You actually think people are morons if they don't immediately figure out that they have to shape star blocks a few rooms away into the shape of the weird creature you saw at the beginning of the level? That's not the first thought that crosses anyone's head. Not to mention the one later in the game when you have to make the shape upside down to what you're shown with zero indication that you need to do so. It's like this game was made to sell Nintendo Power. Which would actually make sense since they weren't likely to make lots of money off such a late release.
>>9034383Just noticed your pic is made out of anime girls. That automatically invalidates anything you had to say.
>>9023998The graphics and sound are easily the most 1997 Japan ever (Princess Mononoke, etc.), which makes it kino. I don't mind the stilted movement if the game's has the most kino aethestic. Same goes for Kirby 64.
>>9035681>shimomura kirby games>umihara kawase>the entire pc-98 library>never played mega man legends but i imagine it's like that tooi wanna live in that aesthetic
>>9034751>You actually think people are morons if they don't immediately figure out that they have to shape star blocksYes>a few rooms away into the shape of the weird creature you saw at the beginning of the level? Its not a few rooms away. Its literally outside the room.>That's not the first thought that crosses anyone's head.It should be, because its fucking obvious>weird creature MADE OF FUCKING BLOCKS outside room that isn't an enemy>room right next to him that plays the noise for "SECRET HERE">A blank canvas of squaresI WONDER WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO ANON. You are dumber than I was when I was 7. The game isn't obtuse. You are.
>>9035640>hating anime>on an anime websiteThis place was made in the style of japanese image boards with the original purpose of talking about japanese shit. Mostly anime.
>>9036053Anon, am I supposed to give a shit ?
>>9036053How does that translate to hating anime? If you had an image made up completely of vaginas I'd also tell you to fuck off. Doesn't mean I hate vagina. Just hate tards like you
I own it, and I agree. It's the worst of the classic kirby games despite having quite a few levels.
I tried playing it and couldn't finish it due to the stilted movement. Too frustrating just walking. I loved Dream Land, Adventure, and Dream Land 2, but 3 was terrible.
>>9034356>It would have been really useful to know that Kine + Electricity can reveal secret doors! You'd know that if you played Kirby AdventurePlus there's a whole level more or less setup for him with full of electric enemies
>>9034356>Like for example, for one of the Heart Stars you need to use Pitch + Broom to water some plants. Yeah, you read that right. Somehow, combining Pitch with the broom ability makes him lob a drop of water. How the fuck were you supposed to know that? Bro I figured this out when I was like 10>Sound indicates the goal>Flowers looks dead>Here's the animal friend presented in a hole in that area IIRC>Broom enemies everywhere>Eventually notice that Pirch + Broom does shoot water>Could it be?...>It worksYou guys are retarded
>>9023998>The SNES deserved a better sendoff.OK, then. Play Frogger.
>>9034751Bruh, I just had to sit down and think about it for a second as a kid. It was obvious. Signal sound, you get a shaped rock, and then you get a big block of blocks to destroy. It's literally putting 2 + 2 together.
Kirby 64 did the puzzle solving better imo. But 3 is alright
>>9039793That's because it's back to the KDL2 style IIRC, but KDL3 had way more variety here
>>9023998This is literally one of my favorite Kirby games. You're just a faggot.
>>9038941The levels should have had titles that hinted what you should do, like Mario 64, the game that came out a full year earlier. Then it would have been obvious.
>>9038935>>Here's the animal friend presented in a hole in that area IIRCYou have a choice between Pitch and Nago, the latter of which is better in most circumstances>>Broom enemies everywhereWhy would you swallow the enemies that give you the worst ability? You'd have to be bored out of your fucking skull to combine one of the worst animal buddies with the worst ability. It's not intuitive in the slightest.
>>9041045> why would you experiment and add different things into the game to vary its gameplay it sucks and i don't like itI never knew Kirby's Dream Land 3 can be an autist detector. They should use it for medical purposes, to give a diagnosis.
I want another Kirby game with its artstyle or at least some approximation of it.
>>9024220>[POPULAR THING]This is probably the first and last time most anons on here will ever hear or think about Kirby's Dream Land 3
>>9041036That wouldn't have mattered to me because I couldn't read the English language at that time>>9041045>Why would you swallow the enemies that give you the worst ability? To try it out. Broom + Animal are a pretty awesome combination overwall IIRC. Most of them are fun to use AND powerful>You have a choice between Pitch and Nago, the latter of which is better in most circumstancesYou had the beep, it was your cue to try shit out. Plus pitch has some fun abilities tooFor example, if 2nd player, they can use the electric ability and follow Kirby while being invincible while Gooey is left behind
