ITT: Discuss which video game enemy has taken more player character lives than any other.
Pic related is an absolute monster when you're not expecting him.

i hate these fuckers in the seventh level autoscroller section
feels like they can spawn way more often than usual
and they do so much damage so it's not just a matter of not falling in the pit
>>
Not an enemy but the engine room in Rusty Bucket Bay. May as well count as one due to how many playthroughs it has filtered

Ive played Sonic 1 and the other games since I was eight years old and this fucker still gets me on replays.

when I die I hope I become a God or something, and I'm given access to all information in the universe. I will ask the void such questions as, "how many players died to the first deku baba in OoT?". those are the answers I really want to know.

I don't think he's the worst one since everyone dies to him only once. Even if they're playing for the first time, they most likely have seen others play it and have enough time to figure out the controls.

In contrast, the pit is an enemy that exists in every level and people continue to die to him until the end of time. Even as an experienced player he probably still takes your life every once in a while. There is no contest.

Hammer Brother guy. He takes your lives in 8-3 if you're too dumb to get the hidden power-ups and fireball him. But if you fuck up in 8-4 you have to get past him as small Mario.

How about Dark Wizards in FF1's ice cave

>a single one of them can wipe out your entire team in one turn
>they often spawn in group so even if you manage to kill one or two before they get a turn, you won't get them all
>no amount of sane grinding can save you
>no equipment to save you either
>or any real tactic to counter the attack or diminish its power

I always do the ice cave in 2 or 3 passes (get a bunch of chests, exit, save, go back in) just because of them as it's way too risky to try and do the entire cave in one run

I'm pretty sure that specific goomba takes the cake just by volume of players and average number of playthrough attempts: he'll get some surprisingly high percentage of first-timers and bad players, which is already more kills than players of most other games mentioned, then he takes lives off players who are trying too hard to rush through and happen to fuck it up. Speedrunners have probably contributed thousands, each, in their endless restarts in various states of tiredness/experimentation to find the fastest pixel of opportunity.

I caught on pretty quick that you can trick it into flying exactly where you want it to.
Jetpack Ninjas are the real bastards in that game. Every time you kill one, another one spawns at the right spot to shoot you out of the air while you're at mid-flight from a jump.

My favourite example of this sort of thing will always be that one time blizzard gathered data on what monsters were killing the most players in World of Warcraft and posted a top 10 list of the most dangerous monsters in the game. #1 was some new raid boss that was walling the shit out of guilds while #2 was just some mage enemy in the human starter zone. Also because it also counted Hunter pets one of the monsters was just "Cat" because cats were the best PVP pets.

Makes me wish more MMOs did this like this. I'd love to see what a top 10 list of dangerous monsters in RS2 would have looked like.
>>
>>8913430
Considering that this a script battle that you're forced to lose... yeah...
>>
>>8913612
Not optional, you might just have gotten lucky on encounter types and what moves the Dark Wizards do though

Back in the 00's, first day with Gold version I shopped out of town. During the trip back home, I was in a blast. Played the game with joy, until the 3rd gym. It was 6 hours or so of play time, I spent 2 hours or so on her until I gave up and went to sleep. Good times.

If the enemy you choose is more than 5 minutes into a game OR the game isn't enormously popular, it's not in the running for most kills. Bowser 8 won't have shit on the killcount of Goomba 1 because player attrition is steep for literally every game on earth. Whitney isn't in the running because only like 60% of people who played will have even reached the 2nd gym leader (extremely optimistically given she's an hour in, but let's assume Pokemon G/S had the lowest attrition rate of all time), let alone lost to her, and it's DOUBLE not in the running because G/S doesn't have the huge sales of RGB so some early trainer in that is guaranteed to have higher killcount by sheer volume of people (can think of Rival 2 but it's out of the way and optional, so probably some bug catcher or Brock). Remember, majority of people are retards with low attention span.
>>
>>8913674
Neat.
>>
>>8914840
Do you think Brock's KO'd more trainers who started with Charmanders than Whitney's who would give anybody who wasn't prepared trouble?
>>
>>8908520
The Sorcerers are worse, at least the Wizards are rare. Sorcerer's cast partywide paralysis and their physicals can instakill
>>
>>8906369
I don’t understand why so many people hate the slicers when the crab from the same level exists
>>
>>8914840
Those games were not played by zoomers.
>>
>>8906018
tree sentinel from Elden Ring probably puts that goomba to rest

Wrong. Pokémon is an extremely easy and casual game, even someone who isn't into game will get easily reach the 2nd or 3rd gym. The things that people got stuck on in RGB weren't things that killed them, they were progression blockers like having to use Flash, Cut, or get the water.
There isn't really anything like that in GSC until Whitney, and it is a difficulty spike. Either you have enough firepower to kill her before roll out starts doing insane dmg, or you don't. Anyway playing the game casually, which would be most of them considering there aren't difficulty spikes before then, won't.
>>
>>8916717
are you implying people stopped playing the game because they had to use flash? Also Whitney is literally a meme. No one ever just stopped playing because of her, anyone who lost to her eventually beat her and kept playing to the end. Red was the only real filter
