It's been over for shmups for a while, and Cave helped to kill the genre by inventing tranmaku.

probably the mobile stuff they've been doing since they stopped doing arcade
I don't think Cave will close down after this, since there is Treasure that has continued existing solely for holding onto IPs
most Cave and Treasure staff that wanted to make games are probably in M2 right now

>over specialise and you breed in weakness

that's what you get for making the entire genre a super niche reskin after reskin for trannys , pedos and hikkimori.

they literally scared the world away.
>>
>>8522309
not only that but they raised the difficulty bar so high only autistic NEETS gobbling down Adderall and playing 16 hours a day for months can even 2-all their games
>>
>>8522318
not really can more like wants to, no functioning adult is doing that shit especially when its rng dependent anyway.
>>
>>8522321
there are 1-2 autistic neets who specialize in each game that do, but my point still stands
>>

>>

>>
How is the Deathsmiles switch port? I might pick it up just for II even if people say it's worse than the first.
>>
>>8522397
it's really shoddy, deathsmiles is exactly like one on steam and deathsmiles 2 fucking sucks and crashes all the time
>>
>>8522143
They didn't even make (real) shmups anon they made phone gacha shit.
>>
>>8522321
tbf I don't think most people could play a shmup 16 hours a day for months without succumbing to suicidal thoughts.

why do shooters make /vr/ seethe so hard? they are harmless

it's doubly funny because if he's too dumb to use imported games, he could've waited for the domestic european release that's significantly cheaper and includes the DLC on the cart.

Is Cave retarded /vr/?
>>
>>8522318
The games aren't that hard on normal, tho. They pretty much all rely on holding/tapping the shot button, staring at the hitbox and not worrying about shooting everything. It's why there's a bar on the bottom of the screen indicating where the boss is in Touhou so you don't have to look up. There's a common theme where slowly tapping the direction button left or right when something shoots directly at you can dodge 900 bullets without really looking. This is the board that usually proclaims, "Once you've played one, you've played them all", so I might as well explain the mentality you need going in.
>>
>>8522116
Like, continually?
>>
>>8522679
if you're playing on normal you're not getting the full game and yes that's called leading shots
>>

>>

Cave Taiwan was set up just last year. I’ve read several articles and I still can’t figure out what it was supposed to be doing or what significance there is in its closing. It seems like a money laundering scheme.
https://www.archyde.com/japanese-game-company-cave-invested-100-million-yen-to-set-up-a-taiwan-subsidiary-with-the-former-17-live-chief-operating-officer-zhang-muning-as-ceo/
I also just realized Cave hasn’t released a new arcade game since 2012, so I don’t see how they’re relevant at all anymore.
>>
>>8522968
Cavecucks still delusionally believe they'll come back to develop more shitty shmups if they buy enough of their ports on steam/switch/etc.

What do you chud-likes consider to be good mechanics/style for a shmup and recommended games out that ooze the best of the genre?

Good, maybe that will stop that insane pcb hoarder guy that IP trolled mame into removing Cave games so he could line his pockets.

Cave isn't out of business, just some fake subsidiary they spun up last year
>>

Reminder that the Gradius series got this shit right in the 80s, and everyone else have been inferior.
Also, Gradius 3, Gaiden, and 5 are still the best.

It's factual though, You can play Konami shooters as a gamer and use reflexes and strategy. It's none of that autistic maze bullshit. TG16 shmups are like this too.
These games are limited, yeas, but they also take a lot of gaming skill to master, and they came out in the 80s and 90s.
Playing Parodius or Pulstar or Blazing Lazers is more rewarding than HOLY SHIT BULLETS EVERYWHERE, SCORE SCORE SCORE.
>>
>>8525147

The fact that I'm not autistic memory-driven and can beat the bubbles in Gradius 3 on SNES proves my point.
Gradius 3 in arcades was bullshit and broken and had to be recalled because it was night unbeatable. Gradius 5 and Gaiden are awesome.

>>
>>8522790
I know I'm in the minority here, but I actually enjoyed the IOS ports that Cave did. Playing bullet hell shmups feels very intuitive/natural using a touch screen, even if it's not as enjoyable as playing on a console with a good arcade stick etc. Also, AFAIK the Danmaku Unlimited games started out as IOS only releases.
>>
>>8525226
>most arcade shmups require memo you're not getting by with reflexes and flailing
so do racing games and nobody is sperging out about those
>>
>>8525169
Fuck that level. Fuck that game.
>>
>>8525301
bro, the iOS port WAS the good one out of the two. I can tell you haven't see the bullshit they put out on android in comparison but it was fucking horrible both visually and gameplaywise. It was like a fucking terribly ported version that looked pirated. THEN YOU SAW IT WAS OFFICIALLY LICENSED.

It was pretty fucking horrible and had micros all over it on top of the ugly visuals. The iOS version had none of that bullshit and just worked.

>>
>>8525338
Damn, that does sound pretty bad. Wonder why they fucked up on the Android versions like that?

I liked Dodonpachi Maximum on iOS, I think that was for Windows phones or something originally. Maximum was cool because it was made for touch screens from the ground up, so it didn't feel like a compromise.
>>
>>8525397
because cave is a shit company and always has been, they're done so many blunders its a wonder how they are even still around
>>
and this effects games made 30 years ago how?
>>
>>8525484
I did think it was odd how they messed up the Saturn port of Dodonpachi. I wonder if it was partly intentional because they didn't want it to compete with the arcade version or something.
>>
>>8525506
What's wrong with that one
>>
>>8525506
I mean, the PS1 version is also not very good apparently, but you'd think they'd get the Saturn one right, as that is like, the shmup console.
>>
>>8525509
A bunch of stuff apparently, it's just not accurate to the arcade version basically
>>
>>8525509
Like, I don't really have much experience with it, but I think Battle Garegga got an arcade perfect port on Saturn, and you would think the Saturn is certainly powerful enough to handle Dodonpachi, so yeah, just doesn't really make sense that they would cut corners on it and not have it play like it should.
>>
>>8525528
cave are shit programmers and always have beem, look at every first party port they've done, it's always shit, steam releases, 360, etc... always some sort of problem with them, now they just have other companies doing it
>>
>>8525532
Yeah, at least it looks like the other companies are doing a decent job porting their games now, DFK/Resurrection on Switch looks good for example.
>>
>>8525528
>I think Battle Garegga got an arcade perfect port on Saturn
Nope.
>>
>>8525397
I have no idea but to this date the best ways to play some of their games is either on the 360 or the arcade because unlike m2, they do not have smart experienced workers who take pride in every release they make.
>>
>>8522431
>tbf I don't think most people could play a shmup 16 hours a day for months without succumbing to suicidal thoughts.

which is funny cus plenty of them have recorded depression issues.
>>
Does arcade perfect ports matter for casual fans?
>>
>>8525637
yes. the fuck ups are usually noticeable considering the value of these games lies in replay and not other stuff
>>
>>8525586
It's fairly close though, isn't it? I only ever emulated that game really, years ago too, so I probably don't know how it's meant to be exactly.
>>
>>8525586
autism
>>
>>8525637
Depends how bad the port is, but usually no.
>>
>>8525796
This, although it can get pretty fucking bad. Looking at you arcana heart 1 and 2 ports.
>>
>>8525546
>Yeah, at least it looks like the other companies are doing a decent job porting their games now, DFK/Resurrection on Switch looks good for example.

These new ports are nothing but getting the old 360 code and putting it onto new hardware, with the extra bonus of every Switch port having an extra frame of input lag over the original 360 version.
>>
>>8525923
Well, it could be worse, like that Cotton game that was just a repackaged Saturn emulator with like 10 frames of input lag or whatever it was. Also it's nice that the DFK port has Ketsuipachi included, pretty sure that was unavailable on the original 360 port unless you had the Japanese version.
>>
can't wait for this shit company to finally go belly up
>>
>>8522309
>Hikkimori
What?
I do, however, largely agree that bullet hells are done too much.
>>
>>8527881
I think the best shmups might be Taito ones like Darius Gaiden or Rayforce and Raystorm, games where you did have a decent amount of bullets on screen but not too many, and the overall focus was more on creating a fun and memorable experience (which was still a good test of skill) rather than scoring.
>>
>>8527881
Hikikomori are people who never leave their bedrooms - average anons.
>>
>>8527602
That shit was unplayable
>>
>>8529692
The Cotton game or Ketsuipachi?
>>
>>8529947
Cotton. The lag is noticeably bad even as a casual.

It's terrible even on ps4

I was hoping Sega and Nintendo would take that route too. After the last couple Sega arcade closures, I thought it was the honorable way out to just disappear holding onto the IPs for special promotions and festivals.
