Why was Halo so popular?
Appealed to zoomers who couldn't handle real FPS games.
Console online multiplayer. We told you this before.
>>8519213It's incredible watching what few examples of recorded Halo 2/3 matchmaking exist from 04-08. The blue screen pops up, names drop one, two, sixteen in just seconds. I've played the MCC and the agonizing waits between matches is incredible. The speed at which matchmaking actually got you from starting to search to starting a match is what set it apart. I have no idea how it's so damn slow on MCC/Xbox now but it's an achievement of fucking things up if console from 2001 had snappier matchmaking than modern services. It's literally one of the earliest examples and one of the best examples to date.
>>8519228The big difference between the original games and MCC is voice chat. Not what's being said, but the fact that everybody is talking because when you buy Xbox Live your first sub will definitely be the headset bundle. Everybody was talking shit and nobody got left out from being able to vent
>>8519218It's a fun gane
>>8519213Because it saved the FPS genre
>>8519213I don't have a clue. If it wasn't Xbox exclusive it would have been the biggest fps ever, even bigger then cod. I've only ever enjoyed it for the custom games with friends, teacher predator bumper cars etc. I much prefer single player fps games as I've gotten older, trying as hard as I can at a video game just isn't appealing and that's what all of these people do. It isn't fun.
>>8519213standardized hardware makes everyone have a homogeneous experienceit looked really good (normal mapping really helps things pop)LAN matches for the first onenetwork connectivity for the second and thirdwell balanced between long, medium, and short range playsetting and lore was funwhat's not to get?
>>8519213One of the first first person shooters to actually work on a console. As well as having a sandbox that allows players to charge in like a wrecking machine, and include social components.>>8519218Halo came out long before zoomers, and hardly into the millennial generation. Even its core fanbase appear to consist of dads who were kids when the first games came out.
>8519218Retarded flamewar bait post. Kill yourself
>>8519218The world's oldest possible zoomers were 5 years old at that point. Try harder.
>>8519551The fuck are you talking about? Halo SOLD the Xbox.
>8519218your a faget
>>8519218You're a fucking idiot
Halo was an incredibly technically impressive game on pretty much every possible front, and it was the first time a console FPS actually felt almost as good as a PC FPS to play.Like if you can compare Halo 1 to some trash like SOCOM, it's fucking obvious why Halo was singlehandedly moving Xboxes.
Hyper-casual online fps game available to shitters who were too shit to play cs/quake/unreal
>>8519658Only a retard would compare a realistic squad based tactical shooter to halo
>>8519751Don't get me wrong, SOCOM had some great ideas as a realistic squad game, but the game was made on a shovelware budget and caught on because it got lucky. The games didn't even have actual live voice chat.
>>8519213It actually had decent enemy AI. I mean the AI in Halo 2 and 3 were dogshit but CE had decent AI. It had a large focus on melee and grenades. It's just fun to throw plasma grenades on elites and watch their whole squad explode, as well as using grenades to coax enemies out of their hiding spot or keep them from running into your hiding spot. Sniping and knocking fodder aliens is also fun.
>>8519213babbies first fpsit introduced casuals to the genrebeen ruined ever since
Which early 2000's console do you recommend?> i hate nintendo>i hate smash bros>I hate the legend of zelda>i hate pokemon>I hate RPG games>i like arcade style games and direct games>anti-nintendo console throughout.>
>>8519857doom was babbies first fps. you would know if you were allive back then
>>8519859>>i like arcade style games and direct gamesdreamcast, xbox, ps2
>>8519881and between the dreamcast, the original xbox, and the ps2.which is the most anti-nintendo and the most suitable for those who hate nintendo?
>>8519213Because a lot of people liked it.
>>8519902Why would the original Xbox be my ideal console from the early 2000's?And which xbox games would you recommend me?
>>8519568>>8519609Not him but zoomer is just anyone younger than me, boomer is someone older than me. Of course there were zoomers back then.
It had a lot of customization for a console game, through reach at least, I didn't play past there.Forge blew my mind when it came out. When they made that warehouse map that was something crazy. Then that desert sandbox came out and people got very creative. Along with how easy you could share all your content you made. God it was good.I hate that party chat ruined random people just talking to each other.Shout out to the softcore porn in forge pictures.
>>8519907Because it's big, powerful, and masculine. It's filled with gory first-person shooters, bra-busting HQ titties and Ferraris revving in 5.1 surround sound. If you just hit puberty this thing will take your virginity by instant loss and mating press. It's certainly heavy enough to do the second one.Now how do you feel about that?Spoilers:IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW YOU FEEL!
>>8519973It is wild how good the xbox looks once you throw component cables on it.
>>8519228I missed out big time back then. Never had Xbox live in those years, parents didn't have a credit card and I didn't know about prepaid cards at the time.I used to hear my friends get super hyped Xbox's about online multiplayer in high school while I was playing PS2 online.
>>8519907Whatever you do don't get a Dreamcast. It has like three games that people actually remember. Xbox had a few exclusives but PS2 just had an absolute shitload of games. You could probably spend the rest of your life playing PS2 games.
>>8519996Dreamcast is worth it just for the fishing games alone.
>>8519987Yes. I wish the 360 emulator was less glitchy: xbox games look stunning with 4xMSAA and hardware upscaler applied. Also I decided to play Urbz a few days ago and realized that all Xbox Sims games are HD.
>>8520002Sega Bass Fishing is on Steam
>>8520016With the Dreamcast fishing controller?
>>8520023How'd you get your DC hooked up to that monitor?
>>8520006I always play Xbox BC in 480p because the upscaler used for 720p looks like complete ass, just like yours.
>>8520031With the VGA cables the Dreamcast supports? They are third party cables but they work fine.
>>8520039I always found it funny how the DC could theoretically produce better outputs but were all supplied with RF bullshit
>>8520053lowestcommondenominator same with consoles coming with composite
>>8520064Composite was already lowest common denominator when the DC came out. Sega was just being lazy.
>>8519213Arena shooter designed for controller.
>>8520078I was still using RF until the early 2000s when our 1985 Zenith TV finally ate shit.
>>8519218>Zoomer>Halo came out in TWO FUCKING THOUSAND AND ONEAre you really this fucking stupid?
>>8519213Hype marketing. Years before it even came out.
>>8519912>Not himat least make your lies more convincing>but zoomer is just anyone...... born between the mid-to-late 90s and early 2010s.>boomer is someone...... born 1946 and 1964.>Of course there were zoomers back then. That's like saying "of course there was moot in 1979," a whopping nine years before he was born.
>>8519551The fuck are you talking about? I just said it's one of the biggest fps games ever.
>>8519551i liked jenga and infected
>>8520297Yes, oomerposters do tend to be that stupid.
>>8519213It's really good
>>8520006what 360 emulator you use? I was having trouble finding one so i can play lost odyssey
>>8520460>boomer completely out of touch with current zoomer slangAgain, I have no idea where you got your shit definitions from but look anywhere you want and you see that the definition of zoomer is:>annoying kids younger than meand boomer is:>older people in general
>>8519721all those games would be dogshit on an xbox controller
>>8522068I'm using a real Xbox 360. This is an original Xbox game emulated on 360.
>>8519993How does being a minority feel like?
>>8519213Massive marketing campaigns backed by Microsoft and launching on a functional multiplayer console service with voice chat and the ability to add friends like MySpace during a time when broadband internet became common in households.
