What is an accessory that you want to get, but can't justify the price of buying? I would love to get this to easily transfer files and tonyhax/freemcboot to my memory cards for example.

A HORI Game Boy Player controller. Heard the 3rd party clones feel like shit.
>>
>>8517896
I bought a old skool one for $26 from goodwill online since I did not know they were back in stock and people say that is pretty good quality.

I want this too. I ended up getting the one in the pic for 30 dollars or something. But the d-pad feels so sharp and stiff. I don't like it at all. The L and R buttons don't feel too great either. It also has these arches in the back which are supposed to be for grip but I find them uncomfortable. I think it would been more worthwhile to get some adapter to use an SNES controller on the GC.
>>
>>8517906
I just looked back at their video and i nthe comments the guy says he changed out the dpad and membrane to a oem SNES one and loves it. Gives me a reason to look for a literal broken snes controller now.
>>
>>8517896
What's the deal with this controller? Just looks like it would be a bad way to play either GC games, or SNES games.
>>
>>8517935
It's for the game boy player. Works with some side scrolling action games on the cube like viewtiful joe so there's like 6 or so actual GC games you can play with it. It being a GC controller also means some wii support but we're limiting out scope.

I think it's mostly desired for its shitty GC layout and snes pad shape.
>>
>>8517940
I love the GC layout, but SNES games always feel weird, because they do things like assign jump to the X button, and if you can't rebind controls, you're stuck with using the GC X button to jump, which feels wrong.
I guess if you specifically want to play GB games on the GC, it's a perfectly fine controller, but are there not adapters available to let you use other things?

Ugh, I wish I would have bought that very piece of plastic years ago when it was cheaper. Oh well.

The unnecessary accessory I want to buy right now is picrel. But then my dumb ass would want to go to the trouble of hunting down OEM controllers too, and I don't even have anyone in my life to play PC Engine multiplayer with on a consistent basis anyways. At least the bulk of the games I enjoy for the console are single player, I guess.
>>
>>8517980
PC Engine seems like a very cursed console. good games with very expensive things needed to play them.
>>
>>8517887
I have one of these collecting dust as my PS3 60gig finally ate shit.
What does it go for?
>>
>>8517998

PC Engine multi-taps those aren't that expensive to be fair. But even then, I can't justify buying one right now. I'll buy one if I ever get a second 6-button controller.
>>8517982
you can find OK deals on ebay for PC Engine stuff if you're willing to wait. One of the more expensive accessories being the junk Super CD Rom2 unit. I needed to replace the main CD drive gear. And now I need to fix it again if I ever what to use it again, because it won't power on anymore.
>>
>>8518001
$80 for a card reader? Haven't people made knockoffs?
>>
>>8518006
That is very cute, thought that Super System thingy is just too expensive in my case. Do the Core Grafx have any capacitor issues or is it just the TurboGrafix16 and the Duo?
>>
>>8518010
I think they did before, but now those knock offs are just as expensive. There is one called the dexdrive for ps1 memory cards only, but that needs a AC adapter so it is a turn off compared to the simple PS3 adapter box.
>>
>>8518006
>I'll buy one if I ever get a second 6-button controller.
That's practically where I'm at with it, but I only have a regular controller at the moment so I'd be looking at even more money spent. I would unironically be better served just waiting five years for my diabolical master plan that sees me moving to Japan to pan out before I hunt down any more PCE accessories
>>
>>8518013
>thought that Super System thingy is just too expensive in my case
It really is. You'd be better off with a terraonion SSDS3 to save the hassle of replacing capacitors and fixing the CD drive.
>Do the Core Grafx have any capacitor issues or is it just the TurboGrafix16 and the Duo?
As far as I'm aware, the capacitor issues are far, far less prevalent on the standalone PC Engine/Core Grafx.

>>8518031
That sounds like a good plan. I'm already tied down as it is. Good luck anon.

You could always make a Memcardrex adapter with an Arduino https://github.com/ShendoXT/memcardrex

>>
>>8517906
>>8517908

Yeah that’s about how it is.

The controller shell is spot on and feels fine. The PCB is well made and has no problems.
The actual plastic for the buttons is fine enough
The plastic Dpad is too sharp
The membranes are bad. It’s not terrible for the buttons but the Dpad really suffers
>>
>>8517958
Raphnet has plenty of adapters you can use instead
>>
>>8517887
Easily this. Been playing a lot of PSO lately, and while you can use USB keyboards via Nintendont on Wii/Wii U, I've been playing on my GC so being able to chat efficiently would be great. It's weird how there's no USB keyboard -> GC adapter exists, considering that there are adapters that allow the keyboard controller to be used on PC as a regular keyboard
>>
>>8518319
I bet with Nintendont they could just support generic USB keyboards even.
>>
>>8518304

I could really use all of pic related but I've managed so far with the Phantom Universal chip and the 2D controller with a worn out D-pad. It just REALLY sucks to patch the region coding of each rom I burn to CD. It also sucks to have to save to the fucking battery. But I'm putting money into rounding off my Xbox/360/PS1/2/3 collection right now. What I'm trying to get is the HD collections of most of the PS2 exclusives but a couple are expensive :(
>>
>>8518304
I was a retard in high school that had no money to buy stuff. I had to beg my dad to buy me Rival Schools for $25 back in around 2012. He was like that is too much and I'm like "you will see" and now the game goes for easily $100. Granted I wanted the game cause I loved it first and foremost and want new Rival School stuff.
>>

>>
>>8517980

Not so much as justify the price but I don't know if it's worth getting for one or two games but a Dreamcast gun and a Saturn gun
if there was one that worked on both it'd be great but I don't think that's possible
>>
>>8517887
I have one of those.
They made a program to pull PS1 saves off it.
Use it all the time.
Bought it when they came out.
>>
>>8517887

pretty sure that'll do a similar thing
>>
>>8517982
It definitely feels cursed to me. I bought mine last year planning to get a Super SD System 3 to go with it, but it just so happened to be discontinued and sold out the very same day. Only options now are the everdrive that doesn't do CD games and the HD version of the SSDS3, which is the same exact shit but has HDMI out and hiked up to $320USD. Such a steep as fuck price tag, but all I have for PCE games are kung fu and f1 racing
>>
>>8518707
added bonus is that it does do the 5 supergrafx games
but if you can find one of the non HD ones second hand, I'd say go for it
>>
>>8517896
Just realized that the GBA has a select button while the Gamecube doesn’t. How weird is that
>>
>>8518726
technically the Z button functions like select on pretty much most GC games
>>
>>8518707

>>
>>8518673
I wasn't aware of those; thanks for the tip. They look nice. I'll probably still try to hunt down the first party ones because I'm a moron like that.
>>8517982
It really is. I'm at least learning Japanese and thankfully a lot of the good CD games are still reasonably priced. I resigned to only owning one actual HuCard game, Splatterhouse, and went with a Turbo Everdrive for everything else. I've only owned the thing for a few months and thankfully already feel like I've gotten my money's worth; it's an awesome console.
>>8518707
That sucks! I couldn't stomach the price tag on the HD Terra Onion thing either and decided to go with a Super CD-ROM2 instead. It hasn't given me any problems yet, but from what I understand it seems to be the easiest CD unit to maintain and repair when problems inevitably start to show up.
>>
>>8518707
I bought this and it pissed me off. It is NOT compatible with AV connections on a CRT tv. It works fine if using HDMI (with a few games not working right), but the entire reason I spent so much was to play CD and superGrafx games on an old tv. None of the superGrafx games work on an AV cable, and the CD is riddled with issues. The sound is also terrible. Super quiet and distorted.

For me, I really always wanted to get one of those professional disk resurfacing machines because I've never been able to find any place nearby that has one, but because I don't live in the US even the cheapest, most basic option Elm-USA has would set me back over 2k in monopoly money.

You really HAVE to have some kind of business to justify the cost of these things.

>>8517887
I have one of these, it's honestly not as overpriced as I thought it was going to be, it's only like 60$. Still limited use though when nearly everything it's good for can just be accomplished using CFW on a PS2 and a PS3. It's pretty great for making FMCB memory cards though on PC, there are third party drivers specifically for doing so.

>>8517896
That's a real bad one too, though even having a gameboy player in the first place is " can't justify the price of buying"-tier as well. It would be real fucking nice for playing Viewtiful Joe with though.

>>
N64 expansion pack. I've had an N64 since back in the day, but never had the expansion pack - never had any of the games that needed it, so I never saw the point. And even later on I couldn't justify dropping even like 20 bucks on one when I'd then need to buy DK64 or Majoras or PD just to use it. But now the things are way more expensive than that, and I have a flashcart, but can't play those games. But I still can't justify purchasing one.

Well shit, I actually don't see them right now. I could swear they used to be mixed in with the legit ones when I searched eBay back then. I'm at work right now but I'll pull mine out when I get home and double check the branding on it. Maybe it's actually a legit one and I just assumed it was a cheap clone because I remember paying less than $30 for it and this was already at a time when everything N64 was getting expensive.
>>

Yes it does, but only if you use an RGB connection because that’s what the chip is connected to

I am. The server is called Schthack, snd all you have to do is input a custom DNS address in PSO's network settings. Just google 'Schthack Phantasy Star Online Gamecube' I guess. If you don't have a BBA, you can play it on the Wii or Wii U via Nintendont, or via Dolphin. The community is very active, and getting bigger. It's fun

I would like but know I wouldn't really use for various reasons:
DC lightguns would be cool, and I have a CRT, but I'd prefer to play HotD2 with the controller anyways. Don't really care enough for lightgun games to want to bother with getting lightguns for PSX or the SNES one.
PSX multi-tap would be cool, but I really don't play any of the games that use it, and I'd be hard pressed to find three other people looking to play 1/4th screen split-screen gameplay.
DC VGA box. Yeah, I know it improves graphics in X games, and I have a near-mint CRT monitor sitting around, but all the games work on my CRT TV anyways and I don't have to play the "Does this game work with the VGA mode?" game when trying new games. I'm fine with S-Video.
PSX link cable. Would love to do some 1VS1 games on full screen, but I would need another TV and PSX setup to use it.
Can't justify the price:
Arcade machines/boards. Paying $250-$1000 for most titles, or 10x that if less than common, for single games. When the majority can be emulated in MAME with whatever controls you want. Would be neat, but too much space and money for the amount of time I could play it.
>>
>>8518937
No but the supergrafx games only work through an RGB connection because that’s what the fpga is connected through as that layer needs to be emulated by the FPGA
>>8518812

Theoretically I don't see any reason why 4mb ram pack clones wouldn't be cheap and commonplace, but I've just never seen one. You'd think they'd be all over the place given how much the price of an expansion pack and apparently kept climbing and climbing ever higher.

Allows for you to move save data around on PS1 and PS2 memory cards to your PS3 and PC(after finding the right software). Easy for stuff like TonyHax and FreeMCBoot exploits. It is also the memcard pro, but you can't use that for PS2 games and it is a total overkill for PS1 game saves. Like someone mentioned to me "who the fuck needs 32gb of PS1 saves".

>>8520261

>>
>>8520261
>It is
Memcard pro has its uses, it works really well with an Xstation. It switches between virtual memory cards whenever you boot into an iso automatically, so you don't have to keep track of your cards and swap them out like you normally would.
>>
>>8520296

What's wrong with them? Light gun games are based and they seem to be the only option at the moment

Jitters about the screen even when set up correctly, which results in inaccuracy. With a light gun you don't want inaccuracy, its pretty much on par with playing with a control pad where the buttons register only 90% of the time, it works just not well enough to be a satisfying experience.

>DC VGA box. Yeah, I know it improves graphics in X games, and I have a near-mint CRT monitor sitting around, but all the games work on my CRT TV anyways and I don't have to play the "Does this game work with the VGA mode?" game when trying new games. I'm fine with S-Video.
Is the Video output on your Dreamcast really overblown? It is on my unit. Outputting via VGA is the only way to resolve it, but I think that's also the VGA monitor correcting itself to appropriate levels.

Only mods I've found online are to add resisters to the VGA box. Not looking forward to it.

Lmao bro just pirate them

You lucky son of a bitch. You can maybe try out Killzone and see how it works with that.

What's the right software for PC? I tried this one because it came with some custom drivers but it the software didn't work.

Some more I saw.

Game Boy Advance Wireless Adapter. Sure, would be cool and all, but I don't play any of the games it supports.
Game Boy 4 Player Game Link. Really don't play most of the games supported, and when the hell am I ever going to find three other people with GB/GBC/GBA's and link cables who want to play those specific games?
Game Boy Link Cable. Where the hell am I gonna go where I'll find someone with another GB/GBC/GBA who wants to play Bomberman or some shit while tied with a cable?
PSX Game Booster. While playing GB games on the PSX sounds neat, I'd much rather play them on a Super Game Boy. It supports all GB games, not just most.

Man, I really I want one of those Hori pads for gameboy player stuff and 2D games like viewtiful joe. Anyone have good experiences using a SNES pad with an adapter as an alternative?
>>
>>8525606
I imagine it should be fine since that ralphnet one is out and they have good word of mouth. https://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/snes_to_wii/index.php

I actually realize I could of bought https://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/classic_to_gcwii_adapter/index.php and use one of my SNES Classic controllers instead of buying >>8517903. Oh well, I see it as not wanting to wear out my good OEM classic controllers on too many games.
>>
>>8523818
I got something like this with a shitty skateboard controller that was intended to make it universaly compatible with all 6th gen systems but it also lets you use the controllers across all of them.

Had one of these but no idea where I put it.

Have it, use it to transfer ps1 saves from psp go to a real ps1 memory card via a ps3
>>8517896
Have the clone, it's good, they may have iterated on their dpad because mine feels fantasitc very close to a SNES dpad. Mostly used it on Switch but it's neat for playing some games on a SNES too.
>>8517980
Have it, never use it because I don't have friends over but I have 5 pads to go along with it one of which is a Fighting Commander PC plus a brook wingman adapter for using arcade sticks on PCE
>>8525606
I used a Raphnet adapter with a SNES pad for GBA on GC play for many years. They work great.
>>8528691
Have it, got lucky on a good price back in 2015. DESU S-Video on a CRT is all you need.
>>
>>8532208
Then buy them
>>
>>8518707
Consider a MiSTer, unironically. It'll run you about the same and will let you play pretty much anything up to 1994 on it too.

Bought it back in the day to transfer ps2 saves to my launch ps3. I thought it was going to be a one time use thing and considered reselling it immediately, but glad I didn't. Probably my favorite accessory ever.

Actually I'm OP and got "lucky" enough to find someone selling on with the wire for $60 after tax and shipping. Hoping that it works as the guy said he used it once and forgot about it until he recently sold his PS2. Sony makes some pretty nifty devices (Vita(TV), this memory dongle and PSP Go) but completely SHIT THE BED when it comes to supporting said items. Granted a memory card adapter doesn't need support, but you hopefully see my point). I guess it was part of that Japanese charm when it comes to "game accessories") that is all but dead after moving to California.

At least Hori seems to be making some cool new items, like that module item they looking into here: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2022/01/hori-wants-to-release-a-retro-game-controller-that-can-be-used-to-play-hamsters-arcade-archives-series
