Magneton was one of those Pokemon that I liked a lot when I was younger.
Its been a while since I last played any Pokemon game. I wonder how well electric moves work on ghost types?

>Alakazam

BUT WHY DOES HE LOSE HIS TAIL
>>
>>8512606

Main problem magnet bois have is that they're slow as shit.

The overall meta of early gen pokemon games was getting first turn and sweeping, if you can't do that your moves don't count for much because you'll just get some bullshit status and get dicked around for 5 turns.
>>
>>8512610
Idk. I always thought the Abra line had a vaguely fox-like appearance. Not sure why the tail vanished.
>>
>>8512618
They became stronger in third generation with the steel typing and the levitate ability, and they have ridiculous special attack and good defense. They're best as a switch in pokemom of course though, not a lead.

I liked how strong he was in gen1 due to the crit bug so hyper fang was basically hyper beam with a chance to flinch. It felt balanced because his health and defense was terrible
>>

glad you agree.
>>
Why do fat people always like Gengar?
>>
>>8513819
It wasnt a bug. Crits were based off of base speed. Electrode has the highest crit chance in that game and some moves were more predestined to crit. Like razor leaf, slash , karate chop.

Those moves were like almost 100 percent guarenteed to crit.

But yeah ratatta or raticate with that move and lots of crits really did whoop ass lmao

the idea is that it's losing mass, as the mind grows stronger the body weakens

from the pokedex
>Alakazam's brain continually grows, making its head far too heavy to support with its neck. This Pokémon holds its head up using its psychokinetic power instead.
>While it has strong psychic abilities and high intelligence, an Alakazam's muscles are very weak. It uses psychic power to move its body.

kadabra's official weight: 56.5 kg
alakazam's official weight: 48 kg

I almost wish they'd committed to this in some way mechanically, because its physical strength is still going up with evolution. On a wider scale too, I wish more evolutions had some mild tradeoff instead of skyrocketing the stats so much. I remember watching the anime as a kid where Pikachu leverages its speed and agility over its evolution the bulkier, fatter Raichu, the idea being the Raichu evolution traded speed for raw power... and being terribly disappointed to check back to the games and find out that Raichu is actually faster.

They did my boy dirty. He took the blame for the seizures incident and was banned from the anime forever, even though the lightshow was actually caused by Pikachu.
Also all of the Rotom-themed shit in the newer games should be Porygon-themed instead. Porygon is the virtual Pokemon created by humans that should be logically integrated into technology. Rotom is a fucking ghost.
>>
>>8517190
they probably would have replaced him sooner or later with or without the seizure incident anon. TPC has a habit of rehashing pokemon ideas they've already done and acting like they're masters of creativity, and then the new pokemon ends up getting a ton of spotlight and merchandise.

Cloyster is based on... well, the oyster/clam, so ball is a mollusc. Irl you can't detach a living mollusc from its shell without a harm so probably no, you can't take it. If ball part of Cloyster doesn't fall out from the shell it means it's sticking to it somehow.

It made more sense back then because pretty weather an attack was physical or special was based on typing and all water attacks were special.

Now there are plenty of physical water moves he can use to play to his strength.

Love gen 1 but the mechanics were fucked, literally anything could be a special sweeper.

>personally like Magneton even more, especially in Stadium.
Based magneton lover. I think it goes without saying that I also love magneton, one of my all time favorites. Just posted his base form because it's an iconic design just by itself. As far as stadium goes, speed is the ultimate stat that matters, so I use electrode for my electric type, because it's so essential to get a thunder wave off on the first turn in that game.

>>8524485
I think the problem is that dugtrio also exists. It's because both of these mons exist together (and maybe dodrio as well) that a lot of people joke about gen 1 evolution being lazy design. I like the idea of three magnemite coming together because of magnetism though, it makes sense.

No, it was bullshit. Why would you want to raise another person's Mon, especially if you can't even rename it? So everyone trades it once, then trades it back again to get their original back. It's just pay2win bullshit, Nintendo up to their old tricks of forcing players to pony up cash for add-ons.

For some reason I can’t make myself care about any of the Pokémon introduced after gen 3. My favorites are all of the gen 1 starters, dragonite, and Starmie
>>
>>8526039
I’m sure selling link cables was the main reason for it, but it had the secondary effect of making kids actually interact with each other & talk about the game. Same applies to the version-specific Pokémon.

Oh yeah, Electrode is such a troll mon and I love that fuckin smirk he has. Paralyzing everything you can before going out with Explosion is a solid but risky game plan and I'd probably have used it in my latest Stadium team if I didn't decide on Zapdos's brute force.
>>
>>8526039
This, pokemon's been a scam since red/blue. It was just more novel before the internet. They really should have dropped the "two versions" thing as soon as the games started to support wi-fi.
>>
>>8512537
This guy would have been the king of gen 1 if it weren't for Mewtwo.
>>
I liked Pokemon best when it wasn't so over saturated with all these monsters. I say around 300 would have been the perfect amount. Now though there is like over a thousand of them. It got to the point where they needed to start evolving old ones into gimmicks like oh here is a black charizard now or here is muk but he's colorful because now he is like oil or some shit. The series at this point can only continue to be gimmicks and new designs since it has never really changed outside of this.

Loved this dude. Was always one of the weaker Psychic types but its design rocked.
Loved how out of the way Natu was too. Sharing the grass with Smergle in the ruins of alph
Also got a pretty amazing ability in Gen 5.
>took until ORAS for it to get any special flying type stab.
>>
>>8526562
out of all the things to dislike nu pokemon for, it's the number of pokemon that bothers you?

I think the series would be fine if it kept doing what it's doing with the pokemon themselves, but hired on some new talent to actually write good dialogue and story for a change, and maybe animate characters in a way that would only look natural if it was still on the gameboy.
>>
>>8519191
>water/flying not water/dragon

Gamefreak can honestly fuck off. It should have been the first water/dragon type from the start. Charizard should have also been a Fire/Dragon type. Actually I would even go so far as to say very few pokemon should be allowed 3 types and Charizard should be one of them. How the fuck isn't it a dragon when it very clearly is? Gamefreak is dumb. Anyone who defends this strange logic inconsistency garbage is equally as dumb. Fuck you muh balance fags btw this is directed at you to.
>>
>>8526741
These games never needed story the way others think they seem to. Team Rocket was the only good villains this series ever had. I don't get this shit with these cring gangs in later games. Team Rocket seemed pretty realisitic for a villanous gang/organization. They even had a leader. Then it became this weird cringe shit with the later games, god pokemon and all this other crap.

When I said "write good dialogue and story for a change that's partly what I mean"
These games barely have a story but like to pretend they do by making the final boss yet another pokemon god and it's just not fun. And the dialogue is so fucking paint by numbers, like every NPC is just regurgitating how important it is to be nice to pokemon, gameplay tips, or saying something related to their one and only defining character trait.

In 2022, this shit's gotta change. The final boss really doesn't have to be a god to make the story feel like it has stakes, and i'm tired of that shit, it was cool in Ruby/Sapphire but they've just retread that road over and over without actually doing anything interesting with it, and they have never once made me care about any of the characters in these games. Now that they've neutered the collecting aspect by axing the national dex, they lost their only saving grace and there is simply no excuse to be mediocre anymore.

>>8516367
One of the only Pokemon I know where there's a tradeoff in stats is Porygon2->Porygon Z. Not classic, I know, but Porygon2 loses a bunch of defensive stats in exchange for vastly more speed and special attack in the upgrade. It's more classic, but Scyther to Scizor also does that. Same stat total, just arranged differently and with a better typing.

There are several cool new ones but many of them are in odd or late locations. Like Natu is only in the Ruins of Alph. Heracross falls out of trees that you can use Headbutt on. Skarmory and Phanpy are in the route south of Blackthorne so you can only really get them after the 8th badge. Houndour is all the way in Kanto near Celadon. Larvitar is in Mt Silver which is literally the last area of the game.

If we are including gen 2, the Typhlosion is my favorite by far. Such a loveable but also cool pokemon, he was my first starter and I always found the idea of travelling around with him following me to be pretty comfy. If we are talking explicitly gen 1, then I think Nidorino may be my favorite. Shame he evolves with a stone, any time I get a Nidorino I always pull him off the front lines so I can get the stone to turn it into Nidoking before leveling him more which sucks

I've always loved the pokeball design, so I love these guys. I also like imagining a friendship with one - it's a ball, one doesn't even have a mouth. How will it express affection? I want to hug one and have one rolling along behind me.

If they could keep their explosions under control they would make neat static-y light sources in the woods
>>
>>8518934
There's just something so charming about the inexplicable cloud tail and ears in the middle of an evolution line that otherwise doesn't have them. It's such a good design

Autism blog post alert, just want to warn you guys ahead of time. You don't have to read or even agree with me.

1. Looking at this makes me think that 3 stages for most Pokemon wasn't necessary. Pidgeotto, Poliwhirl Gloom and Weepingbell were redundant, not necessary.

2. The trade mons are okay but they should have evolved with stones instead, meaning give us unique stones that evolve them obviously that is rare and you can't buy from the stores. Trade incentive could have stayed by being an easier way to evolve them without using a finite stone. I'd have kept these mons having 3 stages though since it makes them have a unique appeal.

3. I would say the only ones who shouldn't have evolved or had a pre-evo were the legendaries.

4. Due to number 3, I would have introduced evolved forms or babies to any that had none in this gen with an exception to Porygon.

5. Mr. Mime gets a pre evo baby form Jr. Mime that came many gens later, and also an alternate Ms. Mime. So similar to the Nidorans.

6. Tangela should have had an evolved form in this gen. Same for Farfetch'd.

7. Tyroug introduced in this gen.

8. Lapras gets a baby form, so does Tauros, Snorlax, Lickitung, Scyther and Pinsir. The other ones baby forms get introduced this gen.

9. Ditto stays as is but Transform gives you full PP benefit. In fact this little guy should have been even more unique. Instead of fight it should say transform. Then once it transforms the fight options come in. This would have made him much more intriguing as a mon. Also give him a bit of a stat boost, he doesn't copy the stats only the attacks, look and weakness and strengths of the other mon. Finally fulfilling his true deserved role as a wildcard poke that is sort of also a jack of all trades master of none.

10. Ditto is my favorite
