>>
>>8350826
Nah, I'm gonna delete it before the 24h mark.
>>
I don't get it.
>>
>>8350853
This is the exact thought I had. Literally every project probably has a build like this filled with incomplete art or placeholders or content that didn't work. What exactly do people want from this?
I guess the only thing is the mindset. You want to pretend like you're playing OoT for the first time again, so you play this bastardized fork. It's not even the hack, it's your brain doing most of the work to make you think it's good.
>>
played it, I'm so glad nintendo switched a and b and simplified the combat because it was very annoying in the beta.
Old deku tree layout makes more sense than final but is objectively worse and confusing from a gameplay standpoint, I can see why they decided to change it up completely, the game is actually full of these things that were changed up because to make gameplay better but disergard lore, like the sacred forest meadow which used to be an actual meadow but instead it became a labyrinth but kept the name
>>
>>8350832
All right, "fuck Nintendo", but you're just posting reddit speak. They didn't do that, and Frank "Wear a mask!" Cifaldi is a faggot that either lied or is a complete moron.
>>
>>8350937
Is it that hard for you to imagine people want to play an older build of a game they loved, to see how it developed? I swear, posters like yourself exude some serious autism. No one here has argued that this is better than the released game, it's just extremely interesting for some to see in development areas that are most completed. Stuff like the restored sacred forest meadow are really cool. These all are preludes to potentially great romhacks that can make use of these areas.
>>
>>8350383
is finished? lts be honest the c&d is coming better have it working so ppl can enjoy
>>

it's Ocarina of Time, the game that changed the industry, the experience everyone wishes they could relive and have more of:

Every fucking thread with you dipshits why even come to /vr/ for retro games if you can't pull the stick out your ass and see why people actually care about these things

Fan translations, hack, betas, every damn thread you fucks always ask the same damn questions. You wanna just talk about generic popular retro game forever or are you actually a retro fag willing to try something different for once in your fucking lives
>>
>>8352076
Most of the people who make those posts are just baiting to get a rise out of other people.
>>
>>8350383
Does this work on an everdrive?
or is it emulation only?
>>
Is this an actual beta rom that someone found or just a romhack that tries to recreate what the beta looked like? If it's the latter then I don't really see the point.
>>
>>8352102
The latter with many of the actual found beta assets incorporated. The intent is to put those assets together intelligibly so that you can more fully experience what the game could have been like if it went the way they planned it at one point in time.
>>
>>8352084
It does work on an Everdrive, yes.
>>
Beta Lost Woods is my favourite place.
Better than the final version imo.
>>
Also finally being able to meet the cutie at Lake Hylia was satisfying as fuck.
>>
I guess I'm wondering, how much of this is actual beta files/recreation and how much is just the creator filling in the holes from screenshots? Like, certainly the entire game wasn't shown like Ganon's tower.
>>
>>8352102

Recreation from all that is known plus half the actual rom.
On a development cart the other 16 MBits were filled with half of the OoT demo. They used these assets and combined them with every known promo material for recreation to create somthing that to all open knowledge should be as close to the real demo from back then as possible.
>>
So how much gameplay/questing is in this hack? Or is it just a tech demo where you run around see the sights?
>>
>>8350832
That was disproven. The anon you're replying to is being a faggot about it though.
>>
>>8350937
>why would people want to see early builds of a game they like and see what 'could have been!'
Idiot
>>
>>8352458
>Or is it just a tech demo where you run around see the sights?
Basically. It's playable in the sense that you can run around a few areas and kill things but it's not an actual game or anything. You just load into sections
>>
>>8351165
He's a moron. That's why he refused to acknowledge he was wrong after getting presented with all the evidence, and instead did " I said POSIT, the GAMES MEDIA ran with it presented as fact!"
Uh huh. Sure, Frank. Just admit you were wrong. You're a shitty "historian" who "posits" poor research as fact during industry talks.
>>
>>8352458
You can do the first and second dungeons. I haven't done Dodongo's yet, but Deku Tree is fully functional and aside from the boss fight, is completely cut beta maps.

Otherwise it's just a tech demo in being able to go through maps. Some of them, like sacred meadow and lost , have spawn entities and basic enemies you can fight. Others, like old Lake Hylia, have no enemies and whacky spawn points.

>>8352084
Everdrive is great. Small slowdown in area with shittons of enemies, like parts of Lost Woods. But otherwise, perfect.

>>8352215
Is this beta lost woods the intro to Majora's Mask?

It's a beta project for a game that had a lot of development changes and has notoriety for its time in history. Do I have to actually spell that out for you? By not already understanding that, you clearly didn't live through the time, so that's the first cue of you being a zoomer. But what makes you a retarded zoomer is sticking your head in the sand and not reading up on the game/history of the game -- something with some of the highest amount of coverage of probably any game out there.
Go back to Tiktok you short attention spanned retard.

anybody get this to work on the wii VC? i've tried injecting it but it just says expansion pack required. the github page says you can do it if you compile it yourself but i don't know how to do that and their instructions are for ubuntu which i dont have. anybody got a premade .wad for a tard like me?
>>
>>8353308
Did the .wad you injected it into have expansion pak enabled? if not, you may need an injector that lets you set that flag, or find a .wad that already would require it (like dk64).

The ROM probably straight up requires an expansion pak (or emulated one) in order to actually function
>>
>>8353308
Inject it into Majora's Mask or gz
>>
>>8353312
the instructions for emulating the expansion pak are like 30 steps long and it says you can brick your wii if you fuck it up. i tried injecting into majora's mask (i believe the only official expansion pak VC game) but it wouldn't do it. it bitches about "could not find the cert" or something. using Impaler wii wad injector. i was looking for one that allows you to enable the expansion pak but i don't think it exists

looks like whoever did the EN title for this mod mistook the stylized 日 radical of 時 in 時のオカリナ for an actual hourglass and thought it was part of the subtitle instead of...just part of the kanji

what a dum dum!
>>
>>8353572
I think it's more likely that they noticed but wanted to keep the cool hourglass anyway
>>
>>8353574
idk if you don't know japanese and know the day radical in time then you'll probably think it's just a cool hourglass and leave it where it is like they did

if he knew what it was i'd wager he would've probably put it somewhere else. or not, i don't really care, it's funny if it's a mistake though
>>
>>8353572

What? That's clarly deliberate.
Look at how slim the kanji would be if it was just the right part as an own kanji, compare it with the kana. It's clearly meant to be one kanji. They just liked the hourglass for the sun radical.
>>
>>8353572
Yeah, they should have moved the hourglass to replace the i in Time to be accurate.
>>
>>8353669
i know the day radical is part of time. i'm saying whoever made the logo misunderstood it as its own thing and that's why they left it there
>>
Could this run on a chink handheld like a gpd xd plus
>>
Would it be possible to put the running slash, jumping and two stage sheathing into regular OoT or would it bust the game?
>>
>>8353693
that's fine and all however graphically it would look worse there
>>
>>8350383
Looking at this build, half-complete and hacked together by fans as it is, one thing seems clear to me: Nintendo had REALLY high ambitions for OoT. I kind of already knew that from reading interviews from back in the day, but seeing all the things that got cut out of the game really drove it home. All those spells, the more detailed animations, the bigger maps... they wanted to cram it full of content and present something grand in scale.

What I find most maddening is that they had the chance to realize those ambitions with Twilight Princess, and it looks like at one point they were indeed considering it given some things cut out of OoT made it into TP, but in the end they squandered the chance and chose to just retread OoT again, cutting things like magic in the process.
>>
>>8353908
Twilight Princess was my most anticipated game of all time and I bought a Wii on launch day for it. Playing it wasn't like finding out Santa Claus isn't real. Playing it was like watching the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and every other holiday mascot walk up to a bound and gagged Santa then put a bullet in his head while I'm forced to watch. I had to force myself to keep playing from the second dungeon until the Sky Temple, then decided it wasn't even worth finishing.

I fucking hate Twilight Princess
>>
>>8352872
There were a lot of changes and the original scope for the game is more akin to Morrowind than the final release

aren't all video games made up shit?
>>
>>8354134
Not him but the guy who did VirtuaNES and one of the earliest NES emulating software from Japan got a gig at Nintendo sometime in the turn of the millennium, and it's thanks to him we got NES games on Animal Crossing as well as the Wii VC but he still used his ancient utilities that left ROMs with headers, hence the VC NES releases still having the header.
>>
>>8354296
once the decompilation is complete and released what would stop him from doing it? and if it's not zel somebody else will surely do it. beta-oot mods have been a thing long before the leaks or either of these projects were started. we began uncovering this shit with gameshark codes decades ago. sucks that people can't just get along to achieve a common goal, but good for zel and his team for doing their own thing and making this

>>
>>8354296
>>8354347
>for criticizing and fixing inaccuracies in the source code
Can you elaborate on this? When you say fixing the source code do you mean he was trying to make the code more accurate to the Nintendo source, or more correct - irrelevant of the Nintendo source implementation.
Another way to ask that is, was he kicked out for trying to push for 1:1 accuracy with Nintendo, or the opposite - fixing bugs that are present in the retail game, but players would not want (like crashes)?

Stop sperging out over this shit mate. It's completely fair to call Nintendo's emulation practices shit, it's another to make up shit based on poor memory that was already disproven. Nintendo had hired an iNES dev to work on their internal emulator for the Wii IIRC. His work contained specific headers that also showed up on the iNES emulator, which led to a long running rumor that Nintendo downloaded an SMB ROM from the internet. This turned out not to be true after further investigation.

>>8355650
Because you're so insistent about being right when this was deboonked a couple years ago.
>>
>>8355638
Kawase joined even before the Wii, he's responsible for the NES emulator on Animal Crossing, which required headered ROMs to work.
>>
>>8355789
There's an entire thread on ResetEra (yeah, I know, herp derp ResetEra) where there is extensive research done into Nintendo's past emulation efforts and how they hired Kawase. The particulars of why and how the iNES header ended up in there is a matter of debate, but it's reasonable to conclude that Kawase used it because he was familiar with it, the licensing didn't prohibit it, and he didn't see the need to reinvent the wheel.
Nintendo has extensive archives, including complete "lot check" ROM sets dating back to NES/Famicom days, all of which can be verified via the Gigaleaks. Many of these ROMs contain unique signatures or lack other data not available in community dumps, which is the final nail in the coffin that Nintendo did not "download their own ROM" and that Frank is full of shit. He "posited" a poorly researched theory as fact, then fell back on pedantics when he got called out.
Have a nice day.

Like >>8354361 is saying.
Whether the people like each other or not, it doesn't mean they can't share work across different projects. And even if they don't want to out of spite, it doesn't stop anyone else from doing it. Both are just open source projects so all it will take is for someone to isolate patches and merge them however they want to.

Kind of like how people do with SM64, 2 authors don't need to know each other or even coordinate at all. You just take their patches and merge them into your branch.

>>
>>8357245
Have you ever watched pre-release trailers for a game and been surprised or disappointed by how different the final product ended up being, even if it was probably changed for the better?

It's fulfilling to see things you had only seen in screenshots within the actual game, everyone who plays the demo can now say that they've been to these places for themselves. It turns out they are just kind of crappy, early development maps, so it's nice to have some form of closure that we didn't really miss out on anything. On the other hand there are things that are genuinelly cool that I'd love to see re-impemented into the final game like a bunch of Link's animations that were cut for memory reasons.
>>
>>8357378
Literally who cares? It's not actually the game. It doesn't matter in the slightest.
>>
>>8357383
It still existed though, and it's special to see these unused beta assets for ourselves.

Today's games are malleable. It's so easy to add a patch or DLC to do something new with it. And at that, most are easily moddable. Internet connectivity for getting mods, most game engines are uniform enough to have tools, and people have powerful machines and a lot of knowledge accessible. It wasn't like that back in the day. Game releases were few and far between, they were expensive, and exposure to them was limited (you mostly had magazines to exposure to upcoming content). So to see "unused" content was a big deal since you'd probably play your games several times and craw over every inch. To see something that never was was that nook or cranny you always wanted to find, but couldn't when you played it.

>>8357465
Honestly I'd love to see all of it ported over and do a game run, just to see what it feels like to have all those unused dynamics.

Fairy would be busted as shit, probably would have to at least put that as a skill you can use post spirit temple or something to not just ruin the game.
>>
>>8357476
It could work, but they'd have to severely nerf it, maybe by limiting it to just a few seconds.
>>
>>8357519
I mean, really though all you can do is get to high places you sometimes couldn't. Most things have hookshot, magic plants, etc. If you put it after the spirit temple, there's not really anywhere you couldn't have gotten already. It's even limited use in Ganon's tower. Can cheese a few rooms I guess?

You're invuln, but you also can't attack. Also, it's just a single player game. I say slip it in as is at the end, and let people have fun their own way.

the swordplay is among the things making OoT the best Zelda game and other gens' 3D Zeldas don't even come close in that department... maybe excepting skyward sword because I've seen evidence for a high skill ceiling with that, and it's just so different inherently that it may not count in this comparison.
>>
>>8358000
Chkd. The best part is that the swordplay (and many other parts of the game) are heavily inspired by Zelda II. Faggots filtered by that game can seethe.
>>
I like that the forward jump and forward jump + attack are 2 different things.
Jumping and then pressing A for the attack makes it more satisfying and less OP imo.

Slashing while walking is cool and good for cutting grass etc.

Always wanted 3D Zelda combat to be less braindead.
>>
>>8357410
I don't think it's as simple as that. a lot of the maps do look like placeholders, but if you consider pre-release (not beta) kokiri forest, nintendo clearly intended for the game to be bigger. those placeholders would probably have turned into something more detailed at one point.
I know people shit on the whole "empty open world" concept and that's allegedly why miamoto scrapped these larger maps, but personally I feel like they add a lot to the atmosphere. and that's what 90% of beta oot is, atmosphere.
the final game always felt a bit limited in that sense, at least to me. but I never knew the scale up until the leaks. imo they should've kept the maps and just sprinkled some enemies here and there.
I go back to the awe I felt the first time I saw hyrule field and imagine every map feeling like that.
>>
>>8358286
>but if you consider pre-release (not beta) kokiri forest, nintendo clearly intended for the game to be bigger

Different anon here, do you have a link?
I was looking for pre-release images of kokiri forest but I saw nothing indicating that the game was supposed to be bigger.
Not saying you are wrong, I just find that interesting and want to see it too.
>>
>>8358318
You should just download the mod and check it out yourself. Seeing these assets is one thing but "playing" them is way cooler. Kokiri Forest and Hyrule Field are both way bigger, and maps like Lost Woods show they had far greater ambitions for some areas compared to what they became in the end (a series of tubes)

I honestly wish Demise didn't have that stupid beat-the-game-for-free lightning bolt mechanic in the second part of the fight. It would've made him a far more memorable boss in the popular consciousness, a boss that truly tested your sword skills to the max.

To be honest, when I first fought him I was dense as fuck and didn't realize at the time I could use it against him (I just assumed it was his OP version of the sword beam you've been using the entire game), so I beat him the hard way, and it was satisfying as FUCK. It took forever and I felt a little bit dumb once I found out you were supposed to use the lightning bolt, but then I realized I inadvertently did a challenge of sorts and surpassed it, so it was cool.
>>
>>8358337
He means theme as in its subject matter, what it was setting out to be and do. Its purpose or soul, if you will.
>>
>>8358402
Yeah it's what I'm talking about. I don't know how anyone can claim TP has no theme when literally everything is build around it. If your too dumb to understand what twilight is a metaphor for in the contex of the events of the game I feel sorry for you
>>
>>8357378
Memory reasons? Maybe. Who knows what went on in there.. What I will say is; the final game is obviously a better game but I do like some of the stuff like the faster physics, the larger and more open rooms, etc. It's atmospheric in a way. There's other areas however that are just downright incomplete entirely or barely functioning. It's a really unique snapshot at what they doing in '97, just barely shaping the game into the form we know now, some of the early stuff is useful, some of it is just kinda show off, hey this is cool, that wouldn't serve much use.

I do hope that one day someone tries to make the early water temple into a real dungeon, because it seems like the rooms were (mostly) complete then the rest is just empty. Filling out those spots and making it work from start to finish would be kinda cool.
>>
>>8358332
>>8358364
>You should just download the mod and check it out yourself
Yeah sorry I missed it, it's the last entry in the list and I didn't have the time to check every area out yet.

It's interesting, I wonder what they would've filled the place with.
All in all I personally think, while it's interesting to see beta content, it's good that the final game ended up like it did.
Bigger doesn't always mean better, look at BotW for example, huge map but content is mostly copy paste which makes it kinda soulless.
>>
>>8358364
I would say it's redundant being that big really. I visited the map, and while it's cool to look around in, it's quite obvious why they significantly downsized it. There's not really much practical use for all of that space, especially as a beginning area as a small village.
>>
>>8358450
>especially as a beginning area as a small village
I agree, but perhaps they had plans to make the player revisit the area for sidequests or some shit.

after experiencing the extent of the space world beta demo i cannot help but recommend all of you looking for more ocarina of time to give it a go, load up Link's House or Deku Tree and go inside, there's a complete dungeon they just scrapped that's like the real master quest of the release version.

it wouldn't be out of place in majora's mask, and it blows my mind they didn't implement it in it, it's wholely done and you can play through the entire thing, not putting it in the sequel is such a blunder i cannot help but wonder if nintendo is pants on head retarded honestly.

my advice is to not pick up any heart drops because you have 6 or 7 and that's kinda overkill, and just don't worry about you having infinite ammunition, deku sticks, and deku seeds. if you ever dreamt of just some more ocarina of time this is it. some of the automated cameras are screwy so use z targetting to look where you want to look when making jumps, it recenters automatically around the central structure and you will fall if you don't use z targetting.

also load up the lost woods and hyrule field and try out some of the adult link equipment, there's six medallion spells that double as magic arrows if you equip them to a bow or directly to the c buttons. try out all the spells, especially the light medallion, you will love it.
>>
>>8359889
I think they redid Deku Tree because it was too daunting for a beginner's dungeon.
>>
>>8350383
I'm playing a few stages, there are two things that they did much better, one was the icon for the wallet, it actually looks like a wallet. You can see a lot of cut content, like Link holding his sword and that horse running around Hyrule.

The hidden was made much more sense and were actually hidden. They were much better.

They could have reused that Deku Tree dungeon, like they did with the Ice Cavern and Botton of the Well.

It's confirmed the rumor that the fireflies from the Forest evolved or were cursed and became that monster we see in Jabu Jabu's belly.
>>
>>8351087
>like the sacred forest meadow which used to be an actual meadow but instead it became a labyrinth but kept the name
that's interesting, I'm didn't get to this part yet.

I posted this: >>8359976
I'm sure they changed the hidden walls so it wouldn't confuse the new players. The wallet icon is still better on beta though.

Also I've noticed that he Armors statues were actually puzzle keys to open hidden walls.
>>
>>8359957
It's also a little boring. The release dungeon doesn't have as much legwork involved. It's way tighter. The Spaceworld dungeons all have way too much space which is barely used. I prefer the aesthetics of Spaceworld Dodongo's Cavern though.
>>
>>8359976
that is what i was saying, they should have put that dungeon in majora's mask, it would have fit right in and i cannot believe they didn't to expand the game's content, the dungeon is finished it just needs an aesthetic makeover
>>
>>8360021
Was it finished, though? How much of the dungeon in this hack was made up by the restoration team?
>>
>>8359976
>Fireflies from the forest became Barinade
excuse me?
>>
>>8360026
They have most of the data for the Deku Tree and Dodongo's Cavern. Actors were swapped around and they had bits of code and partially overwritten models and functions that had to be reverse engineered to restore functions to them. The overdump actually had a shitton of information as to where objects were placed and generally what they did, what was missing were the many of the actor models themselves and the code to get them to work.

>>8360029
That guy is full of shit, there is nothing regarding those things being related to fairies, they just happened to be in the Deku Tree. If anything, they probably related to the parasitic nature of China.

they implemented what they could extrapolate from data, they didn't make OC content
you can play the dungeon from start to finish, so i reckon that it couldn't have taken Nintendo's development team to spruce it up and place it in Majora's Mask, my guess is they had no idea on how to do a fifth mask remains boss battle is all
>>
>>8360029
There's a fan theory that the fireflies we see in the forest were supposed to be the Barinade, they have the same animation and other details. We can see that they first appeared inside the Deku Tree and not in Jabu Jabu. It's just a theory.
>>
>>8360046
It's a pretty stupid theory. Tons of functions in games like OOT share animation code if they can get away with it, like Volvagia and the Arwing.
>>
>>8360048
It's not "stupid", the forest is behind Jabu Jabu.
>>
>>8360039

>>
>>8360056

>>
>>8360039
>>8360056
Most of the actor placements were available, as was the layout and style of the dungeon, the maps, the items, etc, however some things had to be reworked such as door textures and buttons, and the method to get to Gohma had to be guessed. Other than that it was fully intact
>>
>>8360065
You don't even know what extrapolate means, do you?

>>8360074
Which means there's OC put in. They're guessing to the best of their ability about what might have been where in certain spots, which is OC.
I'm not saying it's necessarily bad a thing, by the way. Just that they did what they could.
>>
>>8359889
>>8360021

It's funny, because they reused the Skulltulla house and another thing that I can't remember. I believe it was that area in the mummies fetch quest. So why not this dungeon? It was pretty good, maybe make some modifications here and there and it's done.

if i had to guess they probably had a notion to involve all dungeons with their own region, so to make use of a fifth dungeon maybe they figured it would take all of adding a fifth entrance/exit to clock town leading to a new location, and decide to just roll with four being enough

still would have been cool to have placed it somewhere, it's complete

>>
>>8360110
Not him, but estimate means to make an educated guess. He's right. They're guessing on where some actors, and other things go, and as someone already mentioned they had to rework a couple of things like buttons, as well as the way to get to Gohma. That's OC, no matter how you look at it.
>>
>>8360156
that's not how OC works, someone drawing Sonic isn't original
the point that this all diverged from was the fact that a replica was made with preexisting data and information, arguing semantics is for retards
>>
>>8360134
No, but they reuse code for the movement pattern and general shape, which lead to a modern day headcanon that the fireflies(?) at Kokiri Forest and Lost Woods are baby Tailparasans. I don't agree with it, I'm just clearing it for people who don't know this. It sure is interesting though Tailparasan wete supposed to be both inside the Deku Tree and Jabu-Jabu's belly. Thematically consistent.
>>
>>8360156
There's text from the overdump clarifying in the original build of the Deku Tree you were supposed to save fairies, did they restore this? The premise reminds me of TP's Forest Temple, saving monkeys.
>>
>>8360169
This is something I've been wondering about as well. Imo, that was either for an earlier build or the Spaceworld version didn't have that present.
>>
>>8360174
It's probably part of the code overwritten by F-Zero.
>>
>>8360161
Except it's not a replica. This cannot be stressed enough. It's an approximation. There's original ideas going into it, and no matter how much it may be based off of the existing code, it's still original content.
As you put it, sit down.

>>8360169
I heard that was just a concept or something very early on, but i dunno
>>
>>8360179
Does it really matter? Just enjoy it
>>
>>8360189
There's no evidence for that as far as I'm concerned, just people guessing. The reality might be simpler than that, the fireflies and Tailparasan reuse the same movement code to save on space.

There isn't, no. This only just came out and would be too difficult to just "plug and play" assets. An incredible amount of manual rework and subjective modifications would need to happen.

For instance, you could absolutely just drop in Great Deku Tree and Dodongo Cavern's dungeons as 1:1 counterparts, but shit like Lake Hylia, or beta death mountain crater areas, lost woods/meadow don't really replace 1:1.

>like the sacred forest meadow which used to be an actual meadow but instead it became a labyrinth but kept the name

Yeah, but it's just too big to explore, I think that they made the right decision to make it smaller. There are just too much empty space.

I'm continuing to explore the maps. It's funny how they changed the Zora's fountain into the fishing pond, and the Zora's river rail was just too simple. The OoT version is more congruent with the ALttP Zora's river. It has some challenge.

So, what's Geruro Training Ground? I do think it was supposed to be a full dungeon made of challenges, it has a map and a compass, after all.

The medallions were actually seals, so my take is that they were holding Ganon inside the Castle, that's why it's a seal, they gave it to Link to seal Ganon again. It makes much more sense, because the medallions do nothing in OoT except build a rainbow bridge. I wish they kept this concept.

>>8360267
Yeah, it does feel like it's the same concept.

That heart containers spread inside the dungeons are just too strange, maybe they were going to change it for fairies?

>>8360389
I really wish they kept this magic, it's one of the coolest beta features.
>>
>>8361192
I completely disagree in regards to the lost woods. The whole point of the lost woods is to confuse the player.. and the beta is an actual forest. There's anything willing with having a location like they when the others are smaller. If the entire game was that big, then it would be a problem
>>
>>8361301
Yeah, if it was just the meadow it was okay.

But we also know that the Kokiri Forest and Hyrule were just too big. Even Kakariko village has a lot of empty space.

The shooting target was just too small, I though it was bigger judging by the pictures.

They hadn't conceptualized the Gerudo yet, Nabooru was just a common Hylian.

Also, I've noticed that the characters weren't deformed/exagerated like in the final version, they were all pretty believable, like in BotW. I prefer the NPCs like that, I don't know why they changed it to be so exagerated. maybe it's because the low poly?

They tried that on TP and some characters were just bizarre, like that baby/kid that owns a shop.

>>
>>8361949
It's consistent with the old interviews for TP, where Miyamoto and Aonuma mentioned horseback sword fighting was meant for OoT but they couldn't get it to work right. It probably happened during the period of development when Zelda 64 had a massive Hyrule Field and there was only Adult Link.

Yes, if you fight him as intended, he's braindead easy. Try him out without the thunderbolt strike, though, and he's a much more satisfying challenge.
>>
>>8361757
Also, even classic pre-Aonuma Zelda wasn't exactly known for hard boss fights. Well, a few here and there could be tricky, but the actual dungeon trek itself tended to be where the challenge lay. OoT already had the whole "use dungeon item to beat the boss" thing for every boss.

wait is that why navi sometimes turns greens and points at nothing on the floor in the final? a cut content bug? have been puzzled over that for 20 years
>>
>>8361192
>wind waker
see now there's a game that's actually empty
>>
>>8362053
No lol
>>
>>8362053
Navi does that around spots where you can play Zelda's Lullaby/Song of Storms/Scarecrow's Song
>>
>>8362081
i mean yeah she does that too but she also does it over literally nothing sometimes. i wanna say she does it in the middle of one of the shadow temple rooms where you have to blow up rubble to find a key
>>
>>8362093
I'm not sure, it's either missing clues or or some bug
>>
>>8362093
Navi turning green in the final game is a general "there's something of interest here" indicator. The rubble for example, is to tell the player "this is of interest" without her going "USE BOMBS".
>>
>>8362121
no the rubble is in the corner yet she goes to the floor in the center
>>
>>8362123
Did you try playing zelda's lullaby, Song of Storms, Sun's Song or Song of Time? Sometimes from such spots yellow orbs that restore all health and magic appear from.

If it's on that spining blades she's there so you can dodge the blades.

Each and every other place has a tip or you can do something, like play a music.

For me, it was the Beta Forest Temple back when all the maps got dumped.

Isn't the moth a little bitch if you bring enough magic?

What is the point of this? i dont think it the original Zelda 64 and there is better hack roms like Missing Link or Master of Time

So, uh, what's with the egg?
Was it in the original demo, or is it just something one of the coders put in to make healing easier? If so, why couldn't they have just given you an infinite red potion?
>>
>>8365912
its decent for only 2 dungeons
>>
>>8366215
Most of Zelda 64's development before it changed names to Ocarina of Time as it started being finalized was every branch of Nintendo throwing shit at the walls and seeing what stuck. Judging by the text in the overdump, you could eat the egg to heal, or let it sit in your inventory and hatch into a chicken. It was a precursor to the weird/odd egg and you had to buy it from Lon Lon Ranch instead of being given it by Malon/Anju
>>
>>8367170
it probably would have had the same function as la's blue chimkin but was redundant alongside the hover boots
>>
>>8367438
>la's blue chimkin
qrd?
>>
>>8367170
In some regards, Zelda 64 feels like an entirely different game than what became Ocarina of Time (the 64DD focus, only one Link, the art direction and locales)
>>
>>8355995
What did Frank even say? I see a lot of anons in this thread mentioning it but I have no idea what he did.
>>
>>8369592
That the VC ROMs came from coolROM.com (ergo Nintendo are pirating their own games) because of the iNES header, but one of the iNES guys because a Nintendo employee during the turn of the millennium and still used his own tools, which create said header once used.
>>
>>8370275
Ah, thanks anon. Anything else Frank has said that was stupid? People seem to hate him around here but he seems to be a relatively chill guy from the little I know about him and what he does.
>>
>>8370364
That's all I know, anon, unfortunately. Maybe other anons can fill us in with details.
>>
>>8370364
>>8370492
I'd like to know, too. The only other sin of his that's being thrown about is his supposed girlfriend-beating and, OH NOES, an association with Zoe Quinn, who apparently is still Satan in gurl gaymer form. Not even a fan of hers, but I'm thinking we got a decent bunch of Gamergater fucks from /v/ here.
>>
>>8352215
This looks so much better and you just know you would have legitimately gotten lost.
>>
>>8370364
That Sim City for NES was dumped and uploaded thanks almost entirely to himself.
>>
>>8371430
Yeah, after he held onto it for a few months first.
>>
>>8371443
wait is this the same guy living in Japan that supposedly faked his own death?
>>
>>8371443
You mean for over a year (in order to use it to promote his gay new male feminist website, "The Video Game History Foundation"), after it was given to him to dump and upload it by someone who paid thousands for it.
>>
>>8372138
No, I think you're referring to byuu, creator or the Higan emulator.
>>
>>8372138
That's byuu/near and it's 100% fabricated that he killed himself. He doesn't speak Japanese anywhere near well enough to apply for citizenship, so he worked there as an American citizen with a work visa. During the period of time where he supposedly killed himself, no American citizens were recorded of having died by suicide in Japan during the timeframe. This isn't the first time he's faked suicide to try to get off the internet, but blaming a dead Kiwifarms thread and doxing himself was arguably the weirder twist than him still being alive.
>>
>>8373213
What were some other times he did?
>>
>>8373251
It's hard to find anything about the guy anymore because googling his name just gives you a million articles about his "suicide" but I distinctly remember him having to "come out" as byuu after he made a bunch of new accounts named Near and people realized they were the same person. He only faked his suicide once before this though, the rest of the times he just disappeared after announcing retirement, then would just come back like nothing happened.
