I honestly have no idea, it's so long ago, and I was so young when I started playing vidya, that it could have been a number of different ones. Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3 are probable, but not definite, could just as well have been Duck Hunt, Tom & Jerry, TMNT, Batman, Megaman, or Fester's Quest. We had maybe 28 games for the NES

>favorite game
I'm typically bad at picking favorites, but I'll say Doom with confidence. Doom and Doom 2 are great games at their cores, as well as what people have made with them in all these years, as well as what I can make for it myself.
Fun gameplay, and a great heavy metal/horror aesthetic which has just always appealed to me.

>favorite series (all retro games in series combined)
I guess I'll say Doom, as I really like the expansions too, and spinoffs like Doom 64.
I even like Doom 3, in spite of its flaws (some which are considerable). The uh, new Doom games are pretty ok I guess, but they could be a lot better. There's however many other games and series I'm very fond of, many mentioned in this thread as well. Things like Duke Nukem 3D, Diablo, Morrowind, Baldur's Gate, Super Mario 64, and various Castlevania games.

Yeah actually, at first I was very skeptical because it was first shown off as an april fools joke (even made this meme while I was kind of salty about not getting another beat-em-up), but I was pleasantly surprised at the way they handled the entire system, my only gripe with it is you end the game pretty low level for jrpg standards, so grinding for max level becomes a chore.

And yeah, I didn't actually own a Genesis as kid. All we had was a very accurate famiclone: it looked just like a Famicom, but it said FAMILY & COMPUTER on the front. Even had the gamepads wired in and all, though they had turbo buttons.

The first game I played was Tetris by Tengen, and I first played the NES version of Prince of Persia.

Why are you people just giving away information to some fed and/or marketing faggot?
>>

Most of the zoomers like pleb, low effort shit like pokemon when they mention retro games; but won't dig deeper to find better series. Who their right mind would like pokemon snap? That's a mini game at best,

The feds already know everything about you if you use the internet, they compile all the shit you post in a file, and if they ever want to get you for something, they'll just search through your post history for, if not something directly incriminating, then for clues.
They also almost certainly sell information like this to corps.

was shit tier, it is basically a 50 dollar post game. Also you had to be lvl 50 or 100 exactly to qualify. So it required prep with missingno dupliation and tm saving to get through, that is fucked.

I’m the guy who liked Pokémon Snap.
It’s not like I only play Pokémon. That’s just the series with the most games I enjoy in a single series.
I personally prefer the Ape Escape, Metal Gear Solid, and Castlevania games but those series just don’t have as many games I enjoy as the Pokémon series has.

Am I really going to call the jet set radio series my favorite series when I’m only talking about 2 games?

My favorite game changed over the years. Prior to LoZ, my favorite game would have been fairly temporary. I played a lot of games in the 90s and there are many great ones. But I kept coming back to X-Wing and TIE fighter and always enjoyed them right up through the late 90s. I listed Everquest because I was obsessed with it for about 2 years, but no longer consider it a favorite game.

Impossible to say. I would have to choose between 10 games in no particular order, maybe:
1. REmake/RE4/RE CV
2. DKC2
3. Super Metroid
4. Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts
5. Halo 2
6. Ico
7. SMT 3 Nocturne
8. Wonder Boy III: A Dragon's Trap (SMS>NES)
9. FF7
10. Majora's Mask
However, this list is still excluding some of my other favourites, such as Odin Sphere, Stubbs, Strangers Wrath, Morrowind, Dynamite Headdy, MGS3, Gunstar Heroes, Rondo, SOR2/3 and plus many more. I honestly couldn't choose a single game, because the ones listed are all very different from each other.

What’s with people obfuscating their birth years. If you think this is an anonymous board, there is no point. If you think this is a honeypot, they already know your age.

I would say the NES is more "Iconic" but you could still really feel the limitations of the hardware for most games, outside a small handful of well-polished 90s games like Kirby's Adventure. SNES was everything people liked about the NES, but better. More colors, more sprites, faster scrolling, better sound effects and music. The SNES peak was also the peak of 2D dominance in the game industry.

As for Sega Genesis, it looks to me like SNES is has more popularity with late millennials and younger kids for whom the console was always at least a generation behind. For people who lived through that era it's probably more of an even split with only a slight edge to SNES. And I'd guess this is for two reasons

1. SNES has more famous series that people are interested to go try (Mario, Metroid, Mega Man, Final Fantasy). Nobody cares about the vast majority of retro sports games and Altered Beast is decidedly niche at this point.
2. Maybe this is just me but I can't find a good emulator for Genesis that doesn't crash and fuck up my display. NES, SNES, PSX, N64, even PS2 all have usable emulators. MAME doesn't give me trouble either. But every Genesis emulator I've tried fucking sucks.

The Wii. I really wish I had collected physical games for the Wii. It's hard to justify paying full price for old Wii games online and the used market is just flooded with really crappy games grandma or mom bought kids for Christmas. The Wii is the closest thing to a family entertainment video game console like the Intellivision was. Nothing comes close. Not even the Switch. The Wii-mote is sheer genius. The greatest advance in video game controllers we've ever seen and it's all been tossed away for shitty Joy-cons.

Have you ever tried to hand a modern controller to an older relative? How about a woman that doesn't play video games? How about a child that was raised with a tablet in their hands? The Wii-mote is simple to understand. You point, press the giant face button, or pull the trigger. For most family entertainment games that's enough for grandma to get in on the fun with little Timmy and Betty. I've watched non-gamers struggle to even understand a PS4 controller. It's like handing them an electric guitar and asking them to play. The Wii-mote is a happy medium in between complexity and the simplicity of the old NES controller. It's not perfect, still has too many buttons, but what can you do when gamers demand mechanical complexity from their games? It's the best of both worlds.

It's a very long-running series and the retro games are consistently good quality despite the hate jarpigs get here. It shouldn't be surprising at all. Even people whose favorite games are in a totally different genre still enjoy retro Final Fantasy. Honestly there are probably even people lying about their favorite series so they don't have to list Final Fantasy given how uncool it is.

Not retro and I'd also have to go moreso by "in [x] genre" anyway, because it depends on things like having people to play with or not
I will answer DOA3 though.

Nothing in particular sticks out
You learn to appreciate just having actual people to play your unpopular old multiplayer games with, and when they're gone your game just kinda dies with it
