What are you playin?
What's your favorite weapon?
Latest 1cc?

Let's talk about shoot-em-ups.
>>
>>8098128
Is Aleste 3 any good? I downloaded it but haven't emulated it yet. Also here's a Thunder Force doujinshi album from 1998.

>>8098269
hell yes just turn your brain off and enjoy some dot dodging but not much replay value after the 1cc which is normal for the genre I guess
>>
>>8098269
It's a bit tougher than 2, but definitely worth playing. And turning off the slowdown in the collection makes for a pretty hectic game.

Haven't played one in a while, the last ones were Ginga Force and Natsuki Chronicles but they aren't retro, the last retro shmups that i played was Under Defeat.

I tried to like Sexy Parodius but it's a chore and even with the different routes theres barely any variety. Parodius Forever With Me is massively superior.

Shmup Junkies Discord. It's about as cancer-free as it gets for places to discuss video games.
>>

Even I as 36 years SHMUP veteran think that's an inane opinion.
>>
ShmupArch or ShmupMAME? Or do I need both depending on the game?

ShmupArch. If Electric Underground uses it then so should you.
>>
what vertical neo geo shooters (traditional spaceship/plane) are there?
>>

Unless something's changed very recently, Aleste 3 can't be played on emulators or real hardware due to some baked-in protections that haven't been circumvented yet.
>>
>>8099609
Isn't that just the rom itself? You can emulate it on Switch.
>>
>>8099619
This is correct! The collection emulates just fine on Yuzu.

cool, which emu? I wish it got released to steam but I had a lot of fun 1ALL'ing the original dreamcast game via emulation. The emulator removed a chunk of the slowdown which might have made a little bit of difference, but to be honest it also made some of those boss explosions not take 25 seconds, so I considered it a win all around.

that's cool.
after playing these new full screen HD modes I don't think I'll go back to the original
>>

there's a program called Borderless Gaming it forces borderless full screen mode in games, that might work
>>

According to the instructions, the game has to have a windowed mode option in the first place. It doesn't sound like it'll work on old games that force themselves into fullscreen.

I don't know about better than Senjin, but I have to admit these seem to be shockingly good. Seems to me the GameGear in general has a pretty underrated library.

Also it's pretty nice to learn Yuzu can run on my dogshit toaster, too. It's absolutely perfect for this Aleste Collection, but I hope it can handle the other M2 stuff I've been missing out on like Deathtiny.

Dude don't, the timing is incredibly off. Some shit is way too fast, and some way slower then it should be.
Just get a copy of the Steam version
Also DFK is the easiest of the DDP titles, even a retard like me can get a 1-All on it. That said its one of my most favorite shumps, hyper chaining is just satisfying.

The video sub system on these boards was never taxed until the Raizing games were done on it. It's flexible and powerful for a 2D board. Same for the main CPU which is (for this kind of application) simply overkill. It handles this kind of stuff effortlessly. The board was clearly designed for more to come, but it didn't go to well for TP as we all know.

i didn't really discover arcade shmups until recently. i only grew up around one arcade. we had like the capcom dnd beat em up, the terminator 2 game, mk2, mk3, some lightgun games (probably house of the dead), and some novelty racing sims. but nothing too fancy.

anyway, thanks to the miracle of the internet there's a few shmups i stumbled on that i really like. i haven't 1cc'd any of them.

>battle garegga
>darius gaiden
>in the hunt
>armored police batrider
>r-type 2
>r-type leo

all of those games are fucking badass for one reason or another, and they're all fucking a lot harder than the shit i grew up with like SotN, mario 3, s3&k.

other shmups i've played/enjoy are bio-hazard battle, steel empire, thunder force 4. i find i don't really like the other darius games, or salamander/gradius.

then when you're better go for Garegga, Batrider and Rtype2 etc
>>
>>8139941
The fuck you need color perception for you unwashed fartsniffer? You could comfortably play Ikaruga on a BW screen.
>>
>>8139986
i've been working on darius gaiden. i realized after a while i was doing well enough to make one of the bosses take on a different pattern because of rank, i assume. i can get to the third stage without dying. i used to have a lot of trouble "converting" the enemies with the orbs on them, but i'm pretty good at it now.

i feel like i'm hazy on how rank works in that game, and i'm not 100% i understand how the shield and shot upgrades work. is there a site that details this info?

TF III and IV sort of seem like "memorizer hell" to me. Yes, all shmups require memorization and practice, but I feel like those games have shit that will literally kill you before you can react by coming behind you or from below or something. Once you memorize it, it's easy, but meh. They're both aesthetic but not the funnest.

TF4 is pretty rough about that but imo it's not especially easy even when you know where the enemies are coming from... it still has challenge beyond memorization esp on higher difficulties.

TF3 has a couple of dick moves in level 2 with the fire jets but otherwise it's not so bad. Well I should say TF AC is not so bad, haven't played actual TF3 quite as much but that cucksole-exclusive cave level seems pretty retarded with its blind kills.

One hit kills are standard but you're right any checkpoint system interrupts pacing, adds no value, takes away enjoyment and might as well be a jrpg dialogue cutscene that serves no purpose in shmups but wastes time.

Mushihimesama steam version is best, then switch. Mame is ok to test the game or do some save stating, but not worth playing on seriously. Esprade is fine on mame but better on ps4/switch. Galuda2 on xbox360 and recently came to switch. Ketsui is fine on mame but better on ps4. Espgaluda1 is fine on mame. DDP and DOJ good on mame.
>>
>>8142049
Checkpoints make Ghouls n Ghosts games harder, but it doesn't feel like bullshit because you aren't playing in slowmotion with a pea shooter for a weapon. lots of checkpoint shmups think it's funny to gimp your speed/power on top of it all and have you chase powerups for half the stage again. Only thing you lose in GnG is special armor, but hell if you were in your undies you gain regular armor as a bonus.
>>
>>8142054

When did shmup thread get so fucking casual?

Post your Ikaruga achievement bar, fraud.

What? Did the zoomers take over?
>>

doesn't this game have movement inertia and horrendous input lag?

Your money went towards optimizing my steam version ;) ty

M2 had an Aleste arrangement twitter thing, this one's my favorite.
>>
>>8143160
I heard M2 is going to do another Aleste collection, with Aleste 2 msx version. That should be awesome
>>
>>8143153
>movement inertia
Nope. The ship stops in place the moment you take your thumb off the stick.

>horrendous input lag
4 frames

You faggots were blown the fuck out months ago by our lord and savior. Your game is trash.

stop shilling your channel, Mark.
>>
>>8142879
Not really. Compile is super comfy as far as shmups go. I will say that Soldier Blade on PC Engine is honestly like their formula perfected.
>>
>>8143172
msx version runs fine on fMSX emulator, 60fps, good sound no bugs
>>
>>8143175
I heard someone said it was basically a euroshmup attempt at the R-type formula, and had inertia, or was that rigid force alpha?

Is STG shooting games the best genre? I've never played one but if it's the best genre I'll give it a chance
>>
>>8143997
objectively yes, subjectively maybe

it's a very pure genre.

I played through Final Soldier on the PC Engine. Went through the entire game to the next to last boss with out losing a life. Then I had to use a continue on the last stage. Never got that far before, but I beat it on normal. So much better than Super Star Soldier.
>>
>>8143997
STGs are just homework you do before you allow yourself to play fun platformers and jarpigs.
>>
>>8144405
Super Star Soldier has unfair checkpoints and is a bitch unfortunately--not in a good way.

Final Soldier is a decent beginner shmup and one of my first clears as well, but Soldier Blade is 100% the cream of the crop.
>>
Did the cave ports on switch get slowdown right or no?
Hate that my favorite studio has shitty ports due to muh lack of slowdown
>>
>>8145308
According to MarkMSX or whatever his name is, Espaluda as 3 frames of lag on 360 and 4 on switch.
>>
>>8145172
Super star soldier has a hidden hard mode if you input a cheat code at the beginning. It's actually really fun and tough compared to normal mode which is good for newer players
>>
>>8145334
Actually there's a second secret mode called UrAFag which you can access simply by being yourself.

I'll take the word of the guy who did a Garegga 1CC over an anonymous poster on /vr/ any day. Accomplish something and maybe your opinion will matter, trash.
