It was at a daycare center I went to. shit was comfy.
>>7852178How did the controllers fare after all these years?
>>7852178>Daycare has a nintendo 64 in 2021Strange stuff OP
probably either sonic the hedgehog or one of those sports games on genesis at the relatives place when i was 3. my parents later got super nintendo for status because it was more expensive than genesis so that relatives could suck a dick. so actual first game i played at home was smw most likely
>>7852178Good old NES Super Mario Bros.
>>7852285OP hasn't been in daycare in nearly 10 years. They had a Wii.
>>7852178Donkey Kong on the Intellivision
>>7852178>First game>N64lol wtf?
Toy Bizarre. C64 Disk Version Archer Joystick.
>>7852936This board has been flooded with zoomers since the tranny changed the sticky.
>>7852668I don’t remember for sure, but it was either this or Sonic 1. Either way it was a good one.
>>7852178Either a Frogger tabletop, a Nintendo Color TV Game Pong clone, or Donkey Kong on the ColecoVision. I started really young.
>>7852668Either this or pic related, I don't remember
I'm too old for this shit
How am I supposed to remember the actual first game I played? Best I can do is an educated guess based on the first systems and games I've played.
>>7852178Cassette - Intelligence I>Interton VC 4000Yes I'm old
>>7852178I was born on the day this came out in the US. Pretty cool.
>>7852178mario 3 NES
>>7852178Exclusing Pacman at the pizza joint, this is my first video game. It was difficult
>>7852285I remember a highway stop McDonalds having N64 cabinets set up with Ocarina of Time in the playplace. Not my first game though, that was SMB.
>>7853450Same, cool game
>>7853774>April 26, 1999 in North America I was 16.
>>7852424>>7854064t. tiny, tiny autistic brains
Still my favorite of the series.
>>7854172I was 12, I thought I was an oldfag
>>7852178>shit was comfyin your pants, OP?
>>7854292There’s definitely a decent amount of 40-somethings on this board.
GOTTA GO FAST
Pong, for real.
This is the first one I remember. I can still hear that loud punch sound effect.
>>7852178MK on the NES. I was really young so I mostly watched but I knew then: I was going to be an epic gamer.
>>7854292>I was 12, I thought I was an oldfag13 in 1999 here. You are old. Just not the oldest. We're both around that age where you really start to notice more all the time how most everyone is younger than you except for maybe doctors and court judges who tend to skew a lot close to retirement age.I'm an engineer and everyone from my team is fresh out of college now except me. Have to remind myself sometimes because I got so used to being young and now I'm a good deal older than the average working parents I encounter.>>7853036>This board has been flooded with zoomers since the tranny changed the sticky.Setting the precedent that we need to keep adding newer systems to count as retro was a terrible idea, yeah. I don't care if the year is 2060, being nostalgic about any time period later than the 1990s just doesn't make sense.
>>7852178it was at the battered women's shelter I went to as a childshit was comfyI'm actually not making this up lol
>>7854569I really don't see it going any further except the wii at most. But that's just an upgraded gamecube. Anything HD will never be retro until 4K (or crazier) is the majority of every household which I still doubt will happen this decade because 4K is a meme. 7th gen is when we got more PC level games on home consoles, standardized online play. Subscription services became more common. Consoles became an even better entertainment machine than just DVDs. Anything XBOX 360 - onwards is probably remastered/ported or remade to current and previous gen consoles. Retro really stops at 6th and Wii until there's a big leap in gaming and general consumer tech. And even then. CRTs to LCDs will always be an infinitely (and I mean it literally) bigger leap than HD LCDs to slightly better HD LEDs.
>>7854569Not the anon you responded to but about the same age. Also an engineer, it's been really weird realizing I'm training engineers a decade or more younger than myself. Getting old is weird af.>>7852178I posted in one of the same threads earlier a week or so ago. This was my first probably, at least the first I can remember. I've played games my entire life.
>>7854594>>7854569>I don't care if the year is 2060, being nostalgic about any time period later than the 1990s just doesn't make sense.I'm with you except its 2000s for me. The 2000s represents the decline of the old era of gaming. The 1990s was the peak. It's why you have zoomers saying they wanted to grow up then. Now there doesn't really seem like there's any reason to play on consoles except artificial limitations and restrictions made the by the companies. Society in general just feels kinda stale now. Maybe if there was another war or something it'd be cool. Majority of the big movies coming out are reboots, sequels or in a long running series. Not a lot of new IPs. All the good games nowadays try to be retro. From 2010 onwards, it's been the modern era and it'll stay that way until the fantastic is common. I don't think VR or 4K will be it though.
>>7854616I say 7th gen won't even be considered truly be retro until 2045.
>>7854623And even then it won't be the same retro as 2000s and backwards. It'll just be zoomer nostalgia. They will always be considered different eras of gaming. It's all homogenised and homosexualised now.
>>7854628It's like saying the music scene 1920's to '40s as 50's to '60s give off the same retro feel. The word retro itself isn't really used for stuff earlier than the '70s
My best guess is Zaxxon. But I was so young I don't remember. Both my parents played video games when we were young kids and I was exposed to a handful from an early age. My dad had his arcade games and shooters and my mom loved her MUDs and loved the early Zeldas. The earliest game I remember seriously playing and getting into is probably Zelda 1, mostly because my mom played it so much. We had those early Atari consoles briefly, but I still have the NES I grew up with.
whenever I read or hear the words 'video game', this is what pops into my head
>>7852178Born in 1998This is theoretically the first game I played while it was still new, around 3 or so, but I probably played some of those cheap arcade plug-and-plays I remember my das used to collect. This is the earliest game I recall playing at least.
>>7852178Literally can't find a pic of it. So I was in preschool in 1997, and I live in the San Francisco bay area (so a lot of tech assholes) as a result everyone in my class had to do these typing exercises every month. It was this retarded ass game where you play as a penguin cop and I had to solves a crime (stolen ice cream I believe) and to find who's connected I had to line up a bunch of penguins and try to type all the letters on their hats in over 5 seconds. If the penguin has ice cream cone crumbs under their hat we arrested them. Now here's the weird part. There was this woman penguin, and if she had crumbs under her hat her hair would fall out as it's a wig and she'd get arrested. Between this and another unrelated factor I think I developed a slight fetisch for bald women.
poor 90s kid. I didn't have a console until I got older. og duke nukem and halloween harry and freaking funky fuzzballs were what my dad let me play on his dos computer... I've never met anyone else who's played em.
>>7852178I can't know for sure on this one, but my best guess would be pic related. It's quite comfy and better than Atari's Astroblast,(1982) which ripped off Intellivision's Astrosmash (1981).
>>7854146This or donkey komg country for me can't remember got it as a christmast present when I was very young. A great introduction and point of reference for the future!
>>7854569>I don't care if the year is 2060, being nostalgic about any time period later than the 1990s just doesn't make sense. The 12 year old in 1999 oldfag here, well I am personally still nostalgic for 2000-2005 but after that I agree shit just stops being good
>>7854569>being nostalgic about any time period later than the 1990s just doesn't make sense. In 1999 I was about your age. My first two kids were born in the 90's so I definitely get nostalgic about playing 00's games with them growing up. Pretty ironic you think you aren't nostalgic about that period because you're too old when in reality it's because you're too young. But I agree the rule change was a mistake. They should have just created /v2klgbt/
>>7852178Why did you censor the word Nintendo?
Maybe not the best game for a kid to be playing but who cares
>there are people on this board whose first video game was on the fucking N64>there are people on this board whose first video game wasn't even fucking 2D>there are people on this board who didn't experience the 3D Revolutionfucking killing myself now
>>7855784Honestly this. Dude my brothers kids are growing up playing shit like fortnite. Can you imagine? We were truly blessed to grow up in the times we did before everything became shite.
>>7855687You aren't nostalgic about the 2000s because you were older in the 2000s. You're nostalgic about your kids happening to be a certain age during the 2000s.
First game i recall was pole position 2 on our hand me down 2600 with a huge box of games. Thanks uncle murray.
>>7856842In fairness, Fortnite would probably be fun if you were 5 to 10 years old. I used to watch my nephew play Minecraft and think that it would have been pretty great to have what is essentially a virtual lego kit to play with. Just because you don't find it engaging as an adult doesn't mean that it isn't great for kids. Besides, the kids playing Fortnite today will develop their own taste for vidya as time goes on.
>>7852178what the FUCK
This game was the tits.
PS1 Jampack '98 demo disc. Don't remember which season but it was a blue disc if that narrows it down.>Tomba 2>Spyro>Sled Storm>Toy Story 2>Tiny Tank iirc>Some other games and previews that I can't rememberDon't think I have it anymore which is a bummer.
Around 2000. Got the PSone and pic related. I was 4-5.
>>7853106Might not technically be the first, but it’s definitely the first I remember playing.
>>7856868You aren't comprehending because you're reading. You're coping because you're booty blasted.
>>7852178Either Sonic 2 or Doom, as we had both a megadrive and a few dos computers.
>>7858198You could have kids when at a younger age yourself and still feel the same way about the time when they were first playing video games. You're confusing having kids (something you can do at a wide range of different ages) with being older yourself as the cause.
I remember playing space invaders on an atari 7800 when i was 5yo.
for me it was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVrV-JFYEjc
Tetris and Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins
>>7857728Nice. I had the one with the Metal Gear Solid demo on it for a long time.
>>7852178For me it's this severely underrated PS1 collectathon
>>7858741You literally could not have had a kid in 92 if you were 13 in 99. Do you not understand how making babies works?
>>7860269You didn't say 1992 until now so maybe don't expect people to be telepaths in the future, retard. Here's someone who was 12 with a kid in the 90s i.e the actual subject originally discussed. Point is you could have a kid at anywhere from age 12 to age 90, so having kids who were a certain age when you played video games with them has nothing to do with your own age. You aren't nostalgic for an era. You're nostalgic about a phase in your kids' lives. By your attempted logic here having grandkids who turn that same age in the 2040s will mean people who are 35 now are too young to appreciate a decade that isn't even here yet.
>>7852178Maybe smb or something, from a shitty knockoff GBA SP
Round 42. Space Invaders knockoff shmup running in CGA's little used 160*100*16 color mode. it was on my grandfather's work IBM XT and he only had an amber monochrome monitor so i didn't actually realize the game was in color until i looked it back up like 20 years later.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvnpdAn-mh4
>>7860331Point is you're booty blasted and doing some amazing mental gymnastics to cope.>you could have a kid at anywhere from age 12 to age 90, so having kids who were a certain age when you played video games with them has nothing to do with your own ageIf it has nothing to do with my own age then why is there an age range?>people who are 35 now are too young to appreciate a decade that isn't even here yetYup. That's the way time works kiddo.
>>7852178Pole Position on my dads commodore 64. I can barely remember it so I'm guessing this was around 87-88
I don't exactly remember the first video game I ever played, but I do remember the first game I owned.
>>7852178Cousin's Gameboy. I was probably 6? maybe 7? I loved it so much I begged my mom for my own. So this is my life now.
>>7852178I have three distinct memories of my earliest vidya experiences.1. When I was 4, I had a cavity in one of my teeth. After getting my filling, my dad took me to a bar in the same strip mall with him and they had a Super Mario Bros cabinet there. I didn’t actually play the game, I was just jostling the stick and hitting the buttons while biting my numb tongue. 2. With my dad again, different bar, still 4, much later at night. Don’t know the exact circumstances, but it was kind of a harder party atmosphere, lots more people and loud music. They had an Indiana Jones arcade cabinet there and once again, I was just jostling the stick and pushing buttons “playing” the game. No idea where my dad was, but I remember some chick coming up to me and asking me what I was doing, and I was explaining the game to her.3. At my dads friends house during a party, friends kids were a couple years older than me. They had an NES and finally I got to play for real. The game was Top Gun, and I can still hear little Greg trying to tell me what to do to land one the carrier. My dad isn’t even an alcoholic or anything. Just completely irresponsible and kind of shitty at certain parental duties. I’m lucky I was never kidnapped or worse. Still gets me angry to this day when I think about it, especially now that I’m a father myself.
>>7860809>The pizza was great and I played a bit of ping pong. The rest is a bit hazy.
>>7852178Sonic 3 at a friend's houseFucking incredible. Blew my 5-year old mind!!!!!!!Comfy feelings. I wish I had time to play vidya these days
It was either SMB, SkiFree, or Chip's Challenge. I remember having a pad of fold-it notes that I wrote every password down on, one to a page, and eventually I got to around 120-130 but couldn't progress further. Bummer.
>>7852178Pic related. It was the first game my best friend got with his PS on his birthday. We spent like entire evening messing with game and drooling over pretty cars.
First game i can remember was hangman as part of the Friendlyware. PC master race even back then.DESU i must have played stuff earlier, my dad had some sort of home computer in the like 1979, but i can't remember the games.
Family had a colecovision set up to an old TV in the basement.
This, also used to watch my brother play Kung Fu and Solstice
The ones that stand out are Doom in a daycare center and Donkey Kong Country at a school friends party.
>>7860635damn i forgot all about this game, definitely played it around the same time i was playing kings quest 1, super solvers, and scooters magic castle
there's too many zoomers in here nowya'll are a bunch of stupid little shits to mebehold my first game played
>>7852178Super Mario Bros. on the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt cart. So I guess the second was Duck Hunt. Third vidya was TMNT for NES.
>>7863875Nothing personal, kid
