>No you baka gaijin cannot use my game engine or I quit!
What is that saying "There is no I in 'team'?"
>>
>>7852131
The game would have been shit either way, get over it

Nights sucks too
>>
The NiGHTS engine wasn't even completed yet when STI tried to borrow it for their abortive shitfest. It was extremely rude and Naka rightfully felt disrespected.
>>
>>7852131
He is just a fucking code monkey. Everyone on the Sonic 1 team was more talented than he was. Guy got lucky. It went to his head. The exact same holds true for Shinji mikami and the metal gear faggot. They were in the right place at the right time.
>>
>>7852169
>"Hey the engine you are making for your pet project looks great! Can we use it to create a Sonic title for the Saturn to help sell the console better in the west? You guys in Japan are doing great business with it but we need a big name to sell it to our Genesis fans.

Strong Japanese honor that helped weaken a part of the whole of the company he was attached to and made him anyone of worth to begin with
>>
>>7852210
> Everyone on the Sonic 1 team was more talented than he was.
How so? Pretty sure game feel is integral to Sonic 1. Can you differentiate the work of different programmers within that game?
>>
He can join ranks with the guy that "created megaman" as a hack fraud.
>>
>>7852386
Besides the original demo for speed and physics based game play game he did programed the game, so he was a big part creating Sonic.
Also he was responsible for Phantasy Star Online big time, on in all whatever you like or hate those games you have to admit he did some good shit (Sonic sucks though).

His modern game has show us how much of a hack he is. The less we say about him, the better it is.
>>

Perhaps he could have rephrased it better.
>>
>>7852210
>metal gear faggot
Kojima is probably the one game developer I hate the most. Not saying his game are shit(I liked his old games up to MGS1), but can't love a guy that needs to put his name everywhere in his work when he didn't do it alone.
>>
>>7852825
What a way to fizzle out. We weren't expecting it to be anything resembling his magnum opus.

>game feel is integral to Sonic 1.
Hirokazu Yasuhara is a Japanese video game designer. He is best known for designing the gameplay and stages of the initial Sonic the Hedgehog video games for Sega Genesis in the 1990s, based on technical demos and engines programmed by Yuji Naka. Yasuhara stayed with Sega until the late 1990s. Wikipedia
Born: October 12, 1965 (age 55 years), Japan
Other names: Carol Yas
>>
>>7852830
The thing that makes it sadder is when you realize that he pitched the game to Square as his "last chance". That and he enthusiastically called the team "Balan Company", like he thought it'd be the rebirth of Sonic Team
>>
SOJ didn't like the idea of Americans making a Sonic game anyway because of culture of honor whatever, even though the character was created to appeal to Americans.
>>
>>7852829
It's just a film thing, he's an autist for movies. I've never seen anyone on his team complain, so whatever
>>
What STI did with Sonic X-Treme was equivalent to digging the foundation for a building and then realizing when you try to pour the concrete in that you didn't dig the correct size for it. These guys were hacks who tried to take on a project that was clearly too big for them.
>>
>>7852131
That is development for ya. Bunch of divas.
>>
>>7852131
The game was a vomit-inducing pile of shit. Naka was right to slap the shit out of those stupid gaijin.

oh well. not as if a jester flying through hoops was much of an improvement.
>>
>>7852853
The average consumer does not care for that minstrel/jester style in the way that Yuki Naka likes to make things. The game was doomed from the start on the basis of the aesthetic alone.

>>
he threatened to quit over the use of the Nights engine, and since he was one of the most experienced programmers Sega had they didn't want to risk it
>>
>>7852829
He also thinks they disrespected him by making the NES Metal Gear without even asking.

I have a big one and I'm an ugly, balding, socially awkward piece of shit. Whipping it out probably won't do me any good.
>>
>>7852147
Sick of the internet pretending Nights is good. It's long past annoying. This guy blows and he didn't make sonic. He created a rolling ball game idea, someone else made sonic, another guy did the levels, and they sent it to this fag to program it. The idea that he is a designer worth a shit led to him making Nights, Balan Wonderland, etc. He is trash.

It isn't a fish eye lens, it is just the way the game world rendered itself. Also that was a fan remake. The real thing on the saturn wouldn't render that much of the world at the once so there wouldn't be any nauseatingly distorted parts of the level to look at in the distance. Videos of the old game actually look pretty okay

No.
Naka was the 2nd most important after Yasuhara solely due to the physics he programmed with such huge constraints.

He'll always be a legend for programming the physics of the best games ever made and you zoomers will never ever be able to take that away from him.
>>
>>7852848
Yasuhara did the level design, Naka programmed the physics engine.
Get your shit right.

It was Naka who came up with the idea of making a fast sidescroller game. Oshima took the concept and imagined a character running around loops and collecting rings.
Yasuhara had the foresight of making the level design multifaceted and not like a Mario game so Yasuhara is the most important but Naka is easily the 2nd most important.
>>
>>7852906
He didn't even do that. They had his engine for just 1 week.
It was Nakayama who fucked up Xtreme with his autism. Not that Xtreme would have been good, it would have probably been a flop like 3D Blast.

>>7852914
NiGHTS was a great game. COPE!
>>

Does Miyamoto even know how to program? Like at all? I’ve always wondered about that.

???
>>

>Good for him but skilled 68000 coders were a dime a dozen back then
Which ones? Because aside from him, the only other notable skilled programmers (for home consoles) from that point were Iwata, Koshiro and Gebelli.
>>
>>7856268
>>7856313
Given that all his known works doesn't involve him programming anything, I'm sure he doesn't know how to code.
>>
>>7852817
>nooo don't point out that I talk like a fag
>>
>>7856462
Iwata has the notable pedigree of being sent into an unrelated project to fix their shit and pulling off absolute miracles on the hardware that no one else was apparently good enough to do. Others weren't the "fix everything please and help us fit everything on earth into a 1MB GBC cart" man in any of their companies.
>>
>>7856462
You don't think any Konami or Capcom guys deserve any credit?
>>
>>7856729
To be fair, most of Konami and Capcom guys are unknown since their great works are from the time where devs avoided having programmer's real name on credits. So you hardly know how did great stuffs back then besides the game designer or the guy doing the ost.
>>
>>7856729
Sure not for the hatchet job they did on Mega Man 1.
>>
>>7856723
>Iwata has the notable pedigree of being sent into an unrelated project to fix their shit
Wasn't he still part of HAL Labs when Mother 2 was being developed by them though?
>>
>>7856795
I was actually talking about being sent into Pokemon Gold and Silver to get their game working, less buggy and and stored efficiently.
>>
>>7856817
To be fair RBG could get really fucking weird at points so they really needed all the outside help they could get.
>>
>>7855990
Who knows how much naka was involved in all that. I only know we havent seen the last of him.
>>
>>7853131
>Solid Snake
>based on Terminator
>>
>>7856874
>Who knows how much naka was involved in all that.
I can tell you he was certainly behind the crappy gameplay choices and most likely Arzest's involvement.

>>7856775
Wasn't MM1 that done by someone who never had any game programming experience by that point?
>>
>>7856839
Yeah if anything the stark difference in coding quality between the two sets of games makes it really hard not to buy into the Iwata legends.
>>
>>7856914
>Wasn't MM1 that done by someone who never had any game programming experience by that point?
The lead programmer was a guy who'd programmed control software for construction equipment IIRC.
>>
>>7857001
is that why so many of the robots were construction based?
>>
>>7855105
lmao nice argument you have there. Resident Evil 4 was the best looking, sounding, and playing game of that generation as well as by a landslide the most influential. It did for third person shooters what Ocarina of Time did for 3D Adventure games.
>>
I remember they said he was a "very cautious, conservative coder because in the construction business a mistake in your software can get someone killed."
>>
>>7852131
Yujji Naka is in many ways a hard guy to work with. Who knows what he will do next?
>>
>>7852386
Are people still crying about Mighty No. 9? It's literally your own fault that you poured $4mil out for a Kickstarter that was literally an elevator pitch and a single jpg.
>>
>>7857037
Is that why he threw a temper tantrum with literally every Sonic release and jumped dev teams when people wouldn't suck his dick enough?
>>
>>7857279
Just because fools got parted from their money doesn't mean it absolves the creators involved with such a train wreck
>>
>>7857284
He was talking about the Mega Man guy.
>>
>>7857297
Inafune and crew completely misunderstanding how Kickstarter works, leading them to bite off WAY more than they could chew =/= evil manipulative plot to steal people's money and purposely release a low-tier Megaman knock-off.

Inafune deserves (and actually accepts) the blame for his bungling, but people need to stop acting like he's some evil mastermind who never contributed anything to gaming.
>>
>>7856976
It's kind of sad how much "fanboy" ism for corporations in video games can make people lose sight of the individuals who actually make the industry. Iwata was such a fucking giant and legend. I doubt there will ever be a gaming CEO like him, forget the sheer genius of his programming, but I mean some one who actually loves video games and not just money. I know it's fucking gay to say about a Jap I never knew, but I miss him every day. Too good for this world
>>
>>7857308
Oh; I'd always heard that Kitamura was a flake who didn't work well with others at Capcom.
>>
>>7857310

Japanese people are so racist they turned a caste (they themselves created) into a race just so they could be racist to Japanese people.

I was thinking of the Burakumin, the "undesirables". The Ainu wouldn't be a bad example but they are a race so the whole "behavioral traits correspond to race" is that far-fetched as far as racist theories go.
Another funny thing I've noticed is just how much they love assigning traits to blood types.
>>7860806
Supposedly it would bring stability, as in no coups against the ruling class. They separated people according to professions like merchants, soldiers, etc. It was officially abandoned somewhere before the 1900's but it stuck around.
