Why do some of the textures in RE1 look so horrendous? The wallpaper on the 2nd floor west area above the medical storeroom in particular is offensive to my eyes.

>>7840359Hey. I remember that egm article. What did they even mean, "digitized". Like mortal kombat characters?
>>7840949Yes. iirc you can see the devs do that on the birth if biohazard video or maybe another one.
>>7840148I supposed this video is surprising to people because this event is glitched and can't be done in the PC versions of the gamekind of a shame that the Windows versions have this glitch, is censored further, and used some non final versions. Because with the rebirth patch it's the best version otherwise.

>>7841237I really liked the design of UCMS soldiers in the og 3
>>7841224I don't remember it being glitched. Mind you I played the pic related version. He still broke down the door between the piano room and the dining room, and chased Carlos like normal.Unsure about him being able to break down Jill's door, but then most players never see that scene. You really have to be trying to get it.
>>7841782Interesting. I'll have to download this version, it may be a revision. can you upload the iso somewhere?I checked the following versions:>RE3 PC Europe>RE3 PC US>BH3 Sourcenextand he was glitched in all 3 versions.I'm currently checking up on the GameCube version and it's actually a great version. It's the only version that I know of which is fully uncensored. On top of it uses the hires backgrounds of the PC versions, it has tons of unused PC version file in its data. It also has a couple more surprises.
>>7841904>>7841782oh yeah btw, it's still possible to have Nemesis go from the main hall to the next room even with the glitch. it's just really hard for him to do so, but it's possible.

>>7842147yeah base RE2 playstation version. They are unused items. RE3's gunpowder probably comes from it.
>>7841935Is there any online repository of these texture maps? I assume they've been pulled them from the PC iso, from the file name.
>>7842205Probably. I ripped stuff from the PSX/PC/GC versions myself though, it's very simple when using the right tools. This one is from the GC version, but the GC version actually uses files from the PC version.
>>7841237Wasn't there at least one recent spinoff game about playing through this concept? Someone at Capcom had the same thought that you did about this.

>>7840286The style of game RE1 was trying to be involved being more like a haunted funhouse than a straight haunted house. So they were trying to push visual variety in the different areas and make them all as different from each other as they could think of in the context of the game, and some of those concepts did fall flat. I feel like this difference is what drives the Muh OG RE1 crowd but you're running into the reason the idea becomes flawed over time in execution.
>>7843436Perhaps you're referring to Operation Racoon City, a 3rd person shooter with an ok premise but absolute dogshit execution. You played as mary sue speshul Umbrella ops but it's linear and quite repetitive. I was thinking more of a ...well "open world" (don't laugh) concept, as you controlling a UBCS merc or a squad, completing objectives for the company around Racoon City as you attempt to prevent infection and manage resources such as ammo and medkits. Think, Jagged Alliance (in real time) but with zombies and BOWs. I've always felt Capcom missed a great opportunity with the concept of operating inside Racoon City.
>>7843451>They couldn't even kill an 18 year old girl... or maybe it was a boy idkokay made me kek
>>7840286This one? The texture looks a little stretched and grainy, but the pattern itself is probably taken from some vintage wallpaper. I've seen quite a few older houses with wallpaper that looks really similar to what they used in RE1.
Question; what's the best way to play RE1?I'm planning on playing RE2 and RE3 using that seamless HD project on Dolphin, same thing for RE4HD, but I'm unsure of what's considered the best way to play RE1?
>>7844398I recommend Classic Rebirth => https://appleofeden.de-doc.com/index.php/downloads/resident-evil-classic-rebirth/Make sure to read the instructions on getting it to workOtherwise if you want to play the Directors cut (highly recommend for the numerous story/gameplay changes), hit up Vimms Lair and download the non-dualshock version. The dualshock version added terrible music. To actually emulate the Directors cut version I recommend Mednafen with it's front-end GUI Mednaffe for ease-of-use.
>>7841782Okay, turns out I have that version and have played it, and I did get the glitch in it. What's your specs or what were they when you remember it not glitching?

>>7843453I prefer the original RE1 because the monsters are tougher and more fun to fight.
RE2 has 1250 backgrounds.RE3 has 1550 backgrounds. This is for all the people who claim that RE3 is shorter. This count does include a few rooms which appear twice (day/night versions etc) but that shouldn't amount to 300 backgrounds.
>>7844250Yeah that's the one. The color is like a snot green/yellow and looks so bad. I guess what >>7843453 says about RE1 being a haunted funhouse makes sense, but raw computational power of the Gc aside, the textures in REmake 1 always seemed so much more natural and pleasant to look at for me.

>>7846030Perhaps, but the common argument seems to be that Nemesis functionally acts as a sort of "expansion pack" to 2 because of this, rather than as a true sequel story-wise.

>>7846135make Gas grenades for Nemesis, and Acid for the giant worm. Combine powder with regular grenades for that.
>>7846048That jackass Mikami. He had his head up his own ass. RE1 remake and RE4 on the PS2 and Xbox, would have sold a lot. You can't just put it on a single console, especially when it's the least popular. RE4 not on Xbox is another travesty, as that game would be gold there.

>>7846135It's really easy to get Nemesis stuck on walls and down him with the pistol for the Eagle parts. You can fight him first outside the police station and get him stuck on an archway at the end of the street. Next you fight him inside the police station and you can kite him to the office and get him stuck on the bookshelf. He doesn't run at you until you are a certain distance away from him, so its really easy to control him by just walking in front of him a short distance.

Just finished the original RE1 for the first time (played standard), overall it was pretty sweet. I've finished REmake 1 close to 20 times on hard, and I was surprised at how much damage monsters did in the original (felt like REmake 1 hard damage equivalent), this is of course somewhat offset by monsters taking less damage to kill it felt like. It's been a while since I last played REmake 1, but it felt like there were way more hunters in the original. When I got back to the mansion I went on a hunter 1 tapping spree with my acid rounds, so they never really felt like a problem though. I was however dodging hunters towards the end of the underground tunnels sections, but I could have killed them because in the end I finished the game like at least 24 explosive rounds and at least 18 magnum rounds. The voice acting was absurdly cheesy, but in a good way. The music at the end was a standard 80s/90s guitar solo and felt very appropriate. I'm going to start a new game as Chris soon, and I may just play advanced rather than waste time with another standard run. I want to see what cheesy dialog exists between Chris and Rebecca.
>>7844518Alright thanks mate. I didn't know the DC ver was better, I was about to play the original version.
>>7846171Not really. You just lose out on a couple costumes and actually have to unlock stuff. The GC version is the same way.
>>7846670>monsters taking less damage to kill it felt likeSounds like you might have been playing the Japanese difficulty, which I believe the Director's Cut (non-dualshock) restored into its English release. In the original English difficulty, while zombies and dogs still seem to have less health than in REmake, the hunters, chimera, and spiders are significantly tankier than REmake. Chimera and spiders can even take three magnum rounds to kill.
>>7846816Well the "main" game in the DC version has very little differences from the original game, the biggest change is the auto aim system.Where the DC version excels beyond the original is the included "Advanced" mode, which changes the gameplay and item locations. Effectively a new scenarioIf you intend to just play the original game, I recommend the Classic Rebirth version. The resolution in that one is far superior.
>>7846375Yeah pretty odd it was a GC exclusive at first and then never came to the Xbox
>>7846135Freeze Grenades for Nemesis, Acid Grenades for the Grave Digger, Flame Grenades for everything else. Don't bother crafting ammo for the Magnum. Don't fight Nemesis the first time unless it's mandatory - it's much more enjoyable to try it in the second playthrough. You can backtrack a lot around the city before leaving in the cable car to find some interesting stuff. Also pick up and read the files to learn more about what happened around the town. Have fun, anon. It's a great game.
>>7846670Chris’s scenario is pretty tough even on standard, at least in the early parts because there are lots of hard to avoid zombies in the downstairs hallways.
>>7846670Play Chris on Advanced. It's really worth it and it will make the game feel fresh. Just be very aware that with Chris you do not have the luxury of fighting off the Hunters in packs unless you have a death wish - neither the Shotgun nor the Magnum will pack a punch against them and you can easily get decap'd if you don't know what you're doing. Hunters have very strick sets of patterns but they are very dangerous because they are rarely isolated. Also try and deplete Black Tiger's HP to the mininum possible and then finish it off with knife for an awesome death scene.
>>7845913Theyre getting sued now for using real pics.

OG RE 1 > REmakeOG RE 1 was supposed to be a lived in mansion on top of a secret lab. The idea of making it a dilapidated mansion in the REmake doesn't make any fucking sense at all. The green/brown color pallet of REmake is fucking shit as well. It's so visually boring and uninteresting. It also sucks that you have to burn the zombies. Shit gets old real fast.
>>7847356No, it makes more sense for the rooms to be filled with junk and place be left without a care because the lab in the main point of the location you fucking dingdong.
>>7847456>No, it makes more sense for the rooms to be filled with junk and place be left without a care because the lab in the main point of the location you fucking dingdong.? It would take decades for the mansion to get that fucking dilapidated. And I'm assuming Umbrella was trying to keep somewhat of a low profile so having the place fall into complete disrepair wasn't a good idea. And for what reason would they let it fall into disrepair? They couldn't hire a cleaning guy to come in once a a week? Shit makes no sense. The mansion was the clean, respectable front in OG RE, in REmake it's what?

>>7847464>decades for the mansion to get that fucking dilapidatedWhat was dilapidated about it? A lot of the rooms looked fine and used. I guess the broken shotgun storeroom looked a bit shitty, but it was a storeroom. For a "lived in" mansion, it sure was empty in the original.>muh color pallette If you prefer the snot green walls and puke yellow walls of the original then I dont know what to tell you.
>>7847464>It would take decades for the mansion to get that fucking dilapidated. Wasn't the mansion bulit in the 60's?
RE1 has a great color palette and does a good job using it to make a lot of rooms in the mansion distinct and memorable. Even less colorful rooms like the Trophy Room still have a warmth to them that's completely lost in the REmake. I don't know if they thought it looked more realistic to make everything so washed out and desaturated but it was a terrible design decision.
>>7847015>>7847025I considered what you guys said and went with standard first for Chris. The beginning was a lot of fun and having to go upstairs to the U-shaped hall at the beginning really fucked me up and I did not expect it. I could not believe the amount of zombies in picrel and another six zombies below over the next two screens. It got pretty tense when I was in danger at one point, had not saved yet and was trying to get the broken shotgun, placing the chemical, and putting the blue eye in the statue. I have all four crests now and saved to go for a walk. I'm cruising through it now and am going to try advanced Jill then advanced Chris. I thought about how many hunters I killed with acid rounds as Jill and did not want to deal with all those hunters as Chris on advanced until I saw it on standard first.
>>7847581It does look nice, but it looks very cartoony. REmake 1 has a completely different tone and atmosphere, and it would be lost if they changed it. The devs clearly intended for it to be a more serious horror game. I understand the criticism with the color palette, I just personally don't care that much. The other anon in the the thread who said RE1 was a haunted funhouse and REmake 1 was a haunted house was correct.
>>7847542>What was dilapidated about it?Ripped wallpaper, water dripping from the walls in some rooms, clearly visible cracks and mold on the ceramic posts.
>>7847464One, it's an old building in the bumfuck nowhere mountains. Nobody cares how ruined it would be.Two, mansion looks like shit on the outside in the original, compared to Remake, and in remake the hall, where people would actually come to see what's up, looks clean and perfect.Three, why the fuck would they hire a fucking janitor to come to the middle of nowhere to clean whole fucking mansion? Clearly they don't even use the building to enter the lab in the original, why would they care?Four, the land is used by the Umbrella, not the basement of the mansion alone. And five, there is a helicopter landing zone that is lit and is seen clear as day from a distance you stupid fucking cunt, you think they would care about someone looking in the windows and seeing dust on the table?
>>7847551>Wasn't the mansion bulit in the 60's?Probably, but it would taken decades of just letting it fall apart to get to how it looked in the REmake.
>>7847338I recently played through Jill's campaign via Classic Rebirth using the "always render in 320x240" setting and tapping F8 to go fullscreen at 1280x720 with no anti-aliasing enabled. I did not use the quick-turn or tactical reload options either. First run through the game appears to be the "Japanese" ver 1 difficulty with the exception that ink ribbons are not required to save. Second run is supposedly the US difficulty and requires ink ribbons to save, which I noticed when I started my second run. Highly recommended overall. Even the default keyboard layout worked well enough for me. Can't believe it took me this long to finally beat this game in some capacity. I think the last time I played it was on the Saturn when a tick decapitated me. Guess I was butthurt. Good luck and enjoy.
>>7847591>>7847015 here. Yep, that’s what I was referring to. Chris has to deal with a ridiculous number of zombies with just the Beretta in the early parts of the game.
>>7847581Someone should do one of these for the other areas. I like the Remake mansion and guardhouse but the Lab is atrocious. It's a blatant attempt to mimic the rusty Otherworld from Silent Hill and it just falls completely flat.
>>7847695Yeah agreed. It makes no sense that the lab is all rusted and shitty looking since all the zombie scientists down there were very recently working on projects. It looks like it’s been abandoned for years.
>>7847581The original had way more soul.
>>7847581I want to live in the original.
>>7847581I don't know if they just got lucky or really did their research, but the RE1 mansion looks exactly like a lot of mid-century houses in the US. The garish colors and patterns are spot on for that time period.
>>7847581Is this emulated RE1 or a PC version that I dont know about?
>>7844398sourcenext ports with uncensored patches and fmv swaps for the full res japanese hard subbed versions.

>>7847591There's 10 zombies if you count the zombie in the wardrobe
>>7847856It's only for the very first part of the game, up until you leave the police station.
>>7847581RE1 has a great color palette in the same way that the 90s Batman movies did. The best Batman movies are the Nolan trilogy, just like the best RE1 is the remake.
>>7847137>they are marketing it to resident evil 1 fans>this is so cringe i'm quoting it twiceRetard.
>>7847894Plus the two above the dining room. I always kill the closer one.
>>7847816The main problem with RE3 is that being outside on the streets of Raccoon City amounts to little more than running through a lot of same looking back alleys and a few main streets. It’s not very visually interesting imo.
>>7847782PC version probably running on using the Gemini Patch. PC version doesn't handle blood on meshes the same way as the ps1 version, instead just tinting the whole mesh red when a zombie loses an are or someone's decapitated.
>>7848113My, what atrocious taste you have.
>>7847581is this the HD remaster or GC on the right? Because the remaster crushes all the colours so it's not a fair comparison

aren't those two girls from a US TV shows? What was the name?
as well as this poster, looks like it could be an US TV show / kids show or something
>>7846670Advanced is easier, especially in the initial hour of the game. You have a new default handgun that does insane crit rolls and pops headshots left and right. Chris's 6 slots are way more of a pain in the ass in the original game compared to remake imho
>>7848589I think pic on the left was from a 90's Nick show, "The Secret World of Alex Mack". I remember watching youtube video going over all these.
>>7848646yeah I rememer those pictures from Nick Show being famous but not the RE1/2 posters or the playboy magazine
>>7848642you die in a lot fewer hits in advanced though, enemies deal a shit ton of damage
>>7848073I thought it was always night because even in the beginning the lamp posts are already on.
>>7849049well at first it's the evening and then once you go out of the RPD it's night
>>7848512The 90s Batman movies are all retarded. Entertaining, but retarded. The neon glowstick shit is retarded, the grand lightshows are retarded, etc.
>>7849071>>7848113Hopefully you guy don't include Returns in this and are only talking about Forever and & Robin...because if you think Returns is anything like that shit you're total faggots.BTW 1989 and Returns are the best Batman movies. Nolan shit is for tasteless youngsters.
>>7849170I liked Batman Returns in the sense that it had a comfy Christmas/winter atmosphere, and all the actors did a good job, I just thought that Penguin was an annoying character and as it dragged on I was waiting for it to end. Over the past week I've been rewatching Batman movies, starting with Batman 1989, and I agree it's really good and possibly the best. The 90s Batman movies are questionable, and having finished Batman Begins last night, I think Batman and Batman Begins are both better than all the 90s movies. I dont really see why you say that the Nolan movies are for tasteless youngsters either. I'm 33 and watched all the Batman movies growing up, and enjoyed them, but I was never a fan of the "neon aura" of some of them. I remember seeing The Dark Knight in theaters with a friend, and having this conversation with him where I said that it was really nice to watch a Batman movie that doesn't look like a rave with glowsticks and light shows. This is one of the reasons why I think that the 1989 movie is possibly the best.
>>7849198I don't like the extra realism of the Nolan movies. Everything is down to earth and that comes out as boring to me, just like at Gotham or the Batmobile compared to 89 and Returns...Then, Begins is a snore fest, and the next two are full of modern filming and editing techniques I don't like, built for people with no attention span, and the storytelling and plot twists and the way they're handled feels like they're trying to be too smart for the sake of being to say "look how smart we are".
>>7849208>the way they're handled feels like they're trying to be too smart for the sake of being to say "look how smart we are".That's every Nolan movie, not exclusive to his Batman movies.
>>7843451Well now I want a whole novel out of mid-level umbrella guy
>>7841782>>7841919>>7841904I got it.In the Windows version, Nemesis will glitch if he tries to go from the main hall to the dining room, however he can still go break the door and kill Jill if He then bursts through the window in this piano room; but that doesn"t always happen
>>7849071I wasn't defending the shitty batman movies, I was defending RE1. God forbid the game have some damn color in its aesthetic.
>>7847591You entered that screen from the right, correct? How did you make it past all those zombies in close quarters like that?
>>7849539Not him but the zombies in this room are highly likely to attack with the puke. They can still grab you but either it's less likely or it only happens after they puked once.
>>7849553>>7849539Here. They're an alternate zombie type.
>>7849567Interesting that those are all the lab coat zombies, basically spoiling that the game has a secret lab underneath the mansion.
>>7849631All the advertising and even the box itself already spoiled the existence of the lab though. You can tell it was meant to be gradually revealed, but it was kind of a Terminator 2 situation where everyone already knew the twist going in.
>>7849531I agree that the original is more colorful and in that sense looks better than the remake, but that's just one aspect. In general I think the pros of the remake outweigh and pros of the original.
>>7847816The one good thing about Resident Evil 3 remake was how they handled Carlos, in the remake he's easily one of the best RE characters
>>7849706Agreed. Overall I actually really liked the game but that’s mainly because I wasn’t the biggest fan of the original RE3. I was okay with Nemesis not stalking you everywhere.
>>7849706The expanded hospital was also a nice touch, but RE3 is my second favorite behind REmake 1 and the cons greatly outweigh the pros. It's hard to put into words how disappointed I was with that game.
>>7847664>Chris has to deal with a ridiculous number of zombies with just the Beretta in the early parts of the game. You were not exaggerating either. I've got to say, it was a lot of fun and a good example of why classic RE is perhaps my favorite video game series. By the time I got to that area, I had < 15 rounds left (after wasting a mag on tanky zombie who I thought was dead and left the area, but came back to find him alive). The tension of being in danger and having to navigate through all the zombies with no ammo and plan my route was extraordinarily. Loved every second of it desu.
>>7848554These are the Gamecube versions of the same screens. It doesn't make much of a difference, it still uses the same drab early 2000s brown/gray color scheme.
>>7849706Really? Carlos is so bland in the remake; really, the writing and characterizations in the remake on the whole just felt flat at best and incoherent at worst, and the dynamic between Jill and Carlos seemed entirely artificial. Carlos is reduced to JUSTICE! action hero who is head-over-heels for the literal who that is Jill (and the fact that somehow Jill has a reputation that precedes her -- that she is some super-soldier known to the entire USBC? What?), while Jill seems to have left any intelligence or reflectivity she had on the pin board in her apartment. And those PTSD dream sequences which are entirely divorced from her characterization and everything else in the narrative -- this could have been interesting to explore in a more cohesive way, but once the game throws Brad away in the first five minutes, well, there goes that potential thread. Ugh, sorry. Carlos' hair in the remake is great, I grant you that. But so many wrong turns were taken in the writing room, but I guess they were going for action movie schlock, which by and large demands less developed character psychology than its horror or thriller counterparts.
>>7849706Carlos is just the generic good hearted soldier that you can find in any low budget action or horror movie. Nothing particularly remarkable about him in both the original or the Remake.
>>7849850Mikhail knew about Jill probably because Umbrella handed over to him dossier files about Jill, Chris and every other STARS member as they had evidence that could incriminate Umbrella. The guy has been commanding operations and dealing with shady Umbrella stuff for years, he knew what was going on behind the scenes.
I always loved all of classic RE, but 3 Remake being a fucking travesty made me appreciate 3 that much more. To this day after many A ranks and Jill's Diary runs there cutscenes and Nemesis spawns I've never seen before. Goes to show how games have fallen. Capcom's B team rushing some shit together is an untouchable masterpiece compared to soulless pozzed remakes. The cringy swearing and Jill saying some nigger shit like "Bitch can't even swim" were fucking painful.
Do people actually 'hate' REmake? It's actually a really good game. All the arguments against it I see here are that the original was more colorful, so the remake sucks. That's just a ridiculous argument.
>>7849898No one here hates REmake 1. There's one insistent shitposter every thread, though.
>>7849898It's not a bad game, it's just a worse game. Gameplay is worse in many aspects (combat, layout and pacing, enemy AI, etc), and that's the worse offender beyond the graphical differences.
>>7849887Share the cutscenes and other cool stuff that I should be checking out.>The cringy swearingI didn't care much about that, but >nemesis just throws Jill around and runs about >nemesis in general>nemesis drops :^)>Nicolay>that stupid fucking end bossI quite enoyed the REmake 2, but this shit has no redeeming qualities aside from how it looks. How do you go from creating Mr. X in REmake 2 from that wet fart in the original to that Nemesis?
>>7849918Little cutscene variations stem from the order you pick up certain key items, as well as their seed, since they are semi random. For instance I knew about the ending where Carlos comes with you to the helicopter but I've never gotten it until I looked it up. The girl you can hear if you come back to downtown is actually Dario's daughter. It looks as if maybe you can save her but you can't. Took me ages to get the little tumble dodge where you come off in a shooting position, and I didn't know the mine thrower shots would home in on enemies if you made it infinite.R3make has no randomness to speak of, no optional different Nemesis spawn and they cut like a third of the game, it's almost impressive. Also I found it funny that for a game so progressive, they made Nicolai even more of a cartoony russian bad guy. His accent was off the charts kek.
>>7849898RE2 Remake fanboys hate the RE1 remake and keep saying the RE1 Remake should get a remake with OTS gameplay.
>>7849929>The girl you can hear if you come back to downtown is actually Dario's daughter.Source? I've been hearing everyone say that but never any real source or confirmation anywhere.Dario says he won't go back out there because he lost his daughter. To me that always sounded like she was already dead (so it would be a different girl). Having the girl dying in front of his eyes is an incentive not to go back out. Having simply been seperated would be the contrary.
>>7849929OH yeah, I knew all that.Did you know about that guy that gets eaten and then gets back up as a zombie when you enter the area later?I remember also seeing the Biohazard 4 poster near the movie theater.
>>7849946Pretty sure I remember actually having confirmation about his daughter, but that was years ago and I can't remember the source, maybe it was some RE streamer that actually got the director of the game for a run.>>7849950Yeah, that guy is kinda hard to miss. There's also a burger king ad before you get into the RPD, except it reads burger kong, kek. Also the fucking hidden face. I noticed that as a kid but was always puzzled as to what it was, I knew it was a mistake though.
>>7849854Carlos has a bit more range/"complexity" in the original game -- he plays it overly suave and overconfident, but it becomes clear that he's overcompensating, has some sort of implied TRAGIC BACKSTORY, and his relationship to the USBC is a bit more nuanced. I'm not going to argue that any resident evil character is well-written or truly complex in any compelling way, but the matrix of relationships in the remake does simplify and reduce. >>7849867That Mikhail would know who Jill is isn't in question -- of course he could, within reason, be privy to such information. But why on earth would Mikhail be privy to such information concerning Umbrella's clandestine activities if he is supposedly the morally good leader of this rescue mission, when the player is well-aware that the rescue mission is merely a front? That would indicate that either Mikhail is as duplicitous as Nikolai, or that, more likely, he, like most all other USBC members, is being kept in the dark. If memory serves, the USBC members are essentially a rag-tag assemblage of washed up military, former third-world guerilla, etc. -- they don't have that much depth in terms of institutional history. Mikhail is certainly not aware of Umbrella's use of Nemesis to eliminate STARS or Mr. X to eliminate other critical witnesses, for instance. Really, this is a symptom of the writers' need to build up Jill as hero, and to make more central the antagonism between her and Nemesis -- which also explains why the game feels the need to open with Nemesis being loaded for delivery and then bursting through Jill's apartment wall. RE3remake has to contend with and respond to the mythology of the Jill-Nemesis relationship that has developed as a function of the original game's reception, which necessitates a reorganization of its narratological and thematic elements -- it's the same discursive phenomenon that requires Sephiroth to appear the first half-hour of the FFVII remake, if that analogy makes sense.
>>7849909The trip to apply the V Jolt in the Guardhouse basement is a microcosm of why I dislike the REmake. In RE1, the crate bridge stays intact and it's a relatively short jog to apply the V Jolt. A little annoying but not too bad.In the REmake, the crate bridge vanishes, so you have to go to the bottom of the ring, back up through the control room, then over to the room with the roots. It's just obnoxiously designed for no discernable reason. The whole game is full of similar situations that turn it into a tedious chore to play. Most of the new content falls into that category too like the expanded caves or the big linear path leading to the cabin that are boring as fuck and add absolutely nothing to the game.
Finished Claire A on N64 Resi2 last night. Forgot to close the shutters though. Will tackle Leon B later tonight.
>>7849961Oh yeah, in the original he comes off as an immature tryhard. In the remake he is just trying to be cool all the time, which is cliche as hell. That's why I let Nikolai stab him to death at the final part of the game. The thing about the UBCS is that they always dealt with BOWs no? Even if their main official mission is to evacuate and secure Umbrella installations, many of them probably noticed that there is something shady going on. The whole monitor stuff (which does not appear in the remake) leads me to believe they were always intended to be a front, like everything else Umbrella does.RE3 makes the UBSC seems like this big thing, they appear in the opening cutscene, they appear as side characters, the city has bodies of the UBSC all over the place and yet we never hear about them ever again. There is some poor writing here, because supposedly the UBCS is highly experienced and yet Raccoon city is the first major Umbrella outbreak. Unless they were defending Umbrella installations in Africa from the tribes or something.I actually thought the RE2 remake and RE3 remake were going to blend the lore together to try to make everything make sense and maybe even add new stuff, but instead they completely ignore the lore.
>>7849960it's the same face which appears on the poster on the wall in between the two blue signs
Underrated: Resident Evil Dead Aim.
>>7850041Great game I love it, I should replay it to get some use out of my shitty AimtrackI'd lick Fong Ling's thong say that 10 times rapidly
>>7847029Wonder how much sooner they'd have been sued had they kept this version of the intro
>>7849972>In the REmake, the crate bridge vanishes, yea its almost like draining the water causes the water level to go down
>>7849972Speaking of the Guardhouse, I always thought it was weird that the REmake doesn't have vines growing all over the place like the original one did. It's like they forgot that a giant plant took the whole thing over. It would have been cool if the hallways were all overgrown and maybe had some of the bees buzzing around flowers you could destroy. Then once Plant 42 is gone, it'd be all yellow and dying.
>>7850130Then redesign it with a little puzzle to raise a bridge or something. Box pushing is the lowest possible tier of puzzles anyway and muh realism isn't an excuse for shit game design, especially given everything else in the game.
>>7850153It has more content so it's better
>>7850162>and people still think jill is easy mode
>>7850162>Hey guys, should we give Chris his iconic bomber jacket? You know, the one he wears in the ending slide and the one seen hanging by his desk in RE2?>Nah, let's give him an outfit based on a forgettable Brad Pitt movie instead. His CV costume is pretty neat at least, but it isn't really all that different from his default outfit.
>>7850178What movie is that?>His CV costume is pretty neatI'd rather wear the Pitt shit than touch anything related to CV with a tenfoot pole. But yeah it's bad.

If the RE2 renders were lost, how did RE3 get a version of this camera angle in real high res?
What's the best platform to play RE1 and 2?
I wish this prototype would get leaked.>>7849918REmake 3 was a rush job which is a damn shame because REmake 2 was great.
Can anyone guess this source?
>>7855272RE2: PC Sourcenext with rebirth patchRE1: I'd say the same thing except that a first playthrough on that version forces the game to the easier japanese difficulty. If you'd rather play the harder version, and you should, stick to the original PSX release

After N64 RE2, time to debunk more shit.Contrary to popular belief the gamecube versions of RE2/3 are not straight playstation ports. Both are a mix of the playstation and windows. In short they used as much files from the windows versions as they could and filled in the rest with playstation data so the GC versions would appear as close to possible as the PS1 versions.RE2 GC (NTSC-U)>most of the data structure, files and folders, are identical to windows>background files are identical to the windows versionI think they are upscaled in game on GC while they're not on PC but I'm not sure. It's the same files though.>the Arrange mode of the NTSC-U GC version is not the same Arrange mode as the NTSC-U DualShock PS1 versionOn PS1 DS that mode lets you play the harder western version of the game on easy difficulty while starting with an infinite SMG. In the GC version it's the same thing except it's the japanese version of the game instead.RE3 GC (NTSC-U)>compared to RE2 data structure is even closer to the windows versionMany left-over windows version files are in there, including the 2 costumes of the PC version (which are not accessible in game on GC)... and pic related, a costume unused in all versions presumably made by the windows version staff.>uses the backgrounds of the Windows version... but with some differencesFor one, they had to convert them to another format this time and there was a loss of quality. Then, the windows version actually use many early backgrounds which leads to many errors in game. The GC version corrected most of these, in which cases they took the PS1 version backgrounds and upscaled them (those look like absolute dogshit; you should notice in game if you play emulated when you stumble on one).>the only version of the game which is fully uncensoredThat's on the pro side. All the PS1/PC/DC versions of RE3 (all regions) are censored one way or another. GC is the only one.
>>7855510so yeah btw, everyone has always claimed/assume that the extra content of the PC versions (Hard difficulty, gallery, costumes) are not in the GC version because those versions are straight PS1 ports. This is not true. The difference is that the PC versions were made by external devs who added their own content, but the GC versions were made in house by Capcom (I'm not sure it's known exactly who though). They used the PC versions files, for conviniency and higher quality, but literally took out the extra content. Maybe they wanted faster testing (less things to test), or probably being Capcom's own dev they didn't consider content made by outsider "canon" or worth including.
>>7855510Hmm. I always just assumed the GameCube ports were the same as the Dreamcast/PC versions.
The news that an actor just got cast as Wesker who would be a complete departure from the character just made me think about how shitty and derivative he already was. What were Wesker's "good" moments because I honestly remember nothing but weak cringe from birth to death in this case.
>>7856752Play the games

Looks like the mansion was a lot more colourful in REmake at one point before they went for le brown & grey spiderwebs shit
>>7855310Based Italian giallo.
>>7858350Dreamcast and PS3 HD are the best looking ones as they actually preserve one of the main mechanics of the game, the lighting. So, play those above all others.
>>7858694Everything is the same local value, I bet you -- it's just a question of the lighting.
>>7858685RE4 is trash and not a real RE game.
>>7858486That shot of the 2F hallway with all the little table lamps looks fucking fantastic. Something about the lighting makes it look so much better than the final game.I never realized there were so many candles all over the place though. Plus the oil lamps in the mirror hallway. I guess someone was really in love with the flickering lighting effect. RE0 should have had a minigame where Rebecca has to run around the mansion and light them all.
>>7859021Minutes since /vr/ last seethed over RE4: 0
>>7858908IIRC the PS3/360 HD release actually has a new lighting system. The version of C:VX that’s currently available on PS4 is an emulated version of the original PS2 release with the original lighting and upscaled to 1080p.

how is re4 on PC? What bare minimum gpu does it need?
>>7859210The PS2 and GCN releases don't have the "original" lighting. They're incredibly washed out in their colours and actual lighting effects are toned down significantly from the DC version.
>>7859267It runs at 60fps on the Switch so I’d imagine just about any toaster could run it well at this point.
>>7859238At least with 5 and 6 I can play with a friend for fun coop shooting and have a good time. There's legitimately no reason to play RE4 because it's inferior to the classic RE games, and it's a shitty shooter that I cant play coop.

Somebody clarify something for me: when people are talking about the "REmakes"; do they mean the AAA ones for new consoles? or are they talking about fan remakes of the original games that are basically just improved versions of the same games?
>>7859727The modern Demakes. No one consider the fanpatched original games as remakes.
>>7859727REmake --> The Gamecube remake of RE1, including the "HD remaster" version which was released for current consoles and PC.RE2make (or however one wants to stylize it) --> The recent third-person over-the shoulder remake of RE2.RE3make --> idem., but RE3. None of these are fan hacks. There ARE fan mods (REbirth projects for the PC versions, Seamless HD projects for the GC ports of RE2 and RE3), but the "REmakes" refer to the Capcom-produced games.
>>7859730okaysomebody posted pics from the fanpatched RE3 several threads ago and it looked fantasticI thought I remember somebody saying it was REmake3thanks
>>7859738In that thread about prerendered backgrounds? That was the RE3 Remake with screenshots taken from angles similar to the original game, but it wasn't prerendered or even playable, it's just for fun.
>>7859756what I saw definitely was not this shitty game
>>7858685Yeah, RE4's overarching gameplay strategy is to try not to get overwhelmed, while the game tries to overwhelm you on purpose. You can get kinda good at just abusing it instead and feinting enemies or exploiting your invincibility during kicks and stuff, but you never stop having to make sure your back is safe.
>>7859262I've got a shit laptop with an i3 and some intel onboard GPU, completely not for gaming, and can still play lowres RE4 remaster on it.

>>7860332It's strange imo because in-game Julia Voth looks hotter than Sasha, but in real life I'd argue Sasha looks better than Julia...at least in the face.REmake 3's annoying voice actress may have something to do with that as well.
redpill me on re2 on dc
>>7860641Adds Nightmare mode which is a fun little extra mode. But realistically it mainly means random bullets to kill zombies. So, you instead aim for more shotguns and grenade launchers for zombies and only occasionally dump bullets into them if you need to.
>>7860669The problem is not zombies. It's everything else gaining more HP and becoming far more dangerous. It's not quite as bad as Extreme Battle LV3 but it's more harsh than LV2.
>>7860641The health meter is on the VMU screen which is a nice touch.
>>7858486Fucks sake and they somehow lost these renders and couldn't upscale the backgrounds like they did for RE:0How do you lose REmake's renders but keep RE:0's?
>>7847581I'm so glad people seem to be finally coming around on thisREmake from a visual standpoint was really impressive for its time but it has no personality
>>7860812It would still look really impressive if they still had the original renders to remaster the backgrounds properly.
>>7860820I guess there's always going to be a few retarded holdouts
>>7855310Amazing, those who worked at Capcom had a great taste in movies, for sure.
>>7847581I wish I could find more of the colored in concept art to compare to the RE1 rooms. It was clearly intended to have a really vibrant color scheme from the start.
>>7860641afaik it's just the windows version played on Dreamcast, except worse than on windows. It has the worst loading times of any version of the game, which when you get camera angle changes every few seconds matters quite a bit. Yes the loading times are somehow worse than on PSX. The colours in the backgrounds are all fucked. You can't skip door animations like on windows.>>7860784There is no reason to believe they lost anything, quite the contrary even when you think about how the remaster was made, especially some of the rooms like bird cage one. The difference is that the REmake remaster was a shit job.
I'm replaying the DS version of RE1 after a very long time and it's amazing how much I don't like this version. The graphics look like shit, the musics sound like shit, I don't like the new 3D models at all and the new enemies animations are awful, and more important it leads to subtle gameplay changes that makes gameplay worse. For example the exagerrated knockback zombies get when you shoot them with the Beretta, which doesn't happen in other versions, mean that as long as you keep shooting at a zombie it's not walking closer to you. Completely ruins the balance of the weapons. Also why the fuck change Richard's VA only to put a worse one. Did some dev want to self-insert into the game?
>>7861246a portable RE game was awesome as fuck back then it released. Was my first time I completed RE, didnt like the ps1 version as RE2 was already out and I enjoyed that more, also the lack of auto and the western difficulty made it too hard for me to keep going.Take it for what it is, a portable RE of older times. Shame they canceled other portables, like DMC for PSP. But PSX2PSP fixed the RE portability problem, so its all cool at the end.
>>7861281I used to enjoy this version a lot back when I was at the university and all I had was a DS and no internet connection at my appartment. But replaying it now I can't help to notice all the little things which are worse. I think their intention was to up the tempo of the game, like how for instance aiming at enemies is faster and Hunters also get up faster, but I don't think it works very well as the 3D models and their animations look terrible because they were too busy trying to make everyone look and move like they're as muscular as 90's US comics characters (Tyrant walks like he shat his pants but he has no pants), and the altered AI enemies make the AI worse in too many cases. Very obvious with Black Tiger for instance, when you shoot at it in the og it's near impossible to dodge its reprisal attack unless you had the proper placement before shooting, but it's not like that at all here.
>>7861310The lab creatures at the end of the game are an improvement though, but they're probably the only ones.
>>7858676I remember reading somewhere that it was dumped because it was so broken. But how could it be more broken than the infinite ammo rocket launcher? We may never know.
>>7861819man they didn't even hide the logo.Anyone recognizes the logo on the posters on the lockers there ?>>7852336>>7852334I thought it may be Playboy also but apparently not.
>>7840286Because they just used cheap stock textures.
>>7845943The "PS1 RE games are numbered, other platforms get names" thing is because Capcom had a contract with Sony at the time. This is why Code Veronica (the sequel) got a sidestory name while Resident Evil 3 (the sidestory) got a sequel number.Code Veronica is much more thematically tied to Resident Evil 2. At the end of RE2, Claire ditches Sherry with Leon and says she has to go find her brother. The beginning of Code Veronica is Claire being captured after infiltrating an Umbrella building while looking for information on Chris.
>>7863157The rumors are that the RE4 remake is actually the plot of RE4 and Code Veronica merged into one with both Leona nd Claire playable.

Is there a difference between the Euro and American re2? As everything I've seen says that Claire B has dogs on the sherry part and A has zombies. But this is reverse for me. Is there any other differences im missing? Also I'm playing the original not dual shock or anything.
>>7864205>As everything I've seen says that Claire B has dogs on the sherry part and A has zombiesIt's the contrary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBQE8eZzbvM&t=52mOutside of the 50hz conversion, the only differences between the US and EU versions should be stuff related to translations. For instance the German/French/etc versions are missing the text that is supposed to show up when you start a new game after the intro of the A/B scenarios. They probably forgot to translate that so instead you just get a really long black screen.
