ITT retro games literally only you've played
Buzz Lightyear GBC
Nah we all played Magic girl megaman.
My romhack of Super Mario World I made around 2010 and which I had no back ups of, forcing me to ragequit romhacking for good when the lunar file somehow corrupted on me when I applied it to a rom to playtest. Part of me died that day.
>>7707596Anybody who’s played MAGMML2 has played this, which means a lot of autists have played this.
>>7707623>Part of me died that day.Lol. Was it any good?
>>7707625I had every single screen completely modified, so yes, I'd like to believe it was. Plenty of custom graphics too but it was all random shit I got off the SMWcentral.
>>7707623And nothing of value was lost>>7707625Lol. You don't even need to ask.
>>7707664That's a classic whatchu mean
I never played many obscure games but I almost never hear anyone talk about this one
>>7707596Might have one.
>mediocre TPS>literally could not stop playing it had so much fun
Absolutely God awful Korean exclusive PS2 game, it was bundled in with a bunch of other import games I bought in a lot over 10 years ago.
>>7709358I've played that, for maybe a couple minutes because I don't know enough Japanese to enjoy it (and card battling is a dumb system)
>>7709376All I know of this game is that the composer Sota Fujimori got his start with it before moving into Konami's rhythm game division.
>>7707596I played this when I was picking roms at random from a NES full set. I couldn't believe this was an actual game and not just a Mega Man romhack someone made in the 2010's.
>>7707596I got this game like 20 years ago, but it was the ntsc release. I thought it was some serious rpg with a sexy wizard lady or something, not literally megaman. I wasn't disappointed.
>>7709440another case of "cover represents nothing about the actual game"
>>7707979>ShadowcasterHoly based. Fantastic game overshadowed by the release of Doom
>>7707979It was pretty well known at the time becuase of the step its engine represented over Ultima Underworld (because id had provided it, in fact, but of course they'd kept the real big features for the imminent Doom)
>>7709494Huh, I have this on cd, but I never played it.
>>7709505>but I never played it.based
>>7709498At the time apparently. I never heard about til a few months ago
honestly dont think ive ever heard anyone mention this game. it's not even that obscure.
>>7710182Probably because it's shit. That would be my guess.
I don't think literally no one else, but I never hear anyone talk about Batman: The Caped Crusaderhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIBHJ54xuTY
>>7710303>adam west batman gameHOLY KINO
Pretty cool exploration game.
Axel's Magic Hammer, a sidescroller with shitty controls. I had a ton of fun playing it back thenhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuqeEpF6vj4
>>7710198Chakan is fun actually
>>7710182I've heard about it a number of times. Never played it.
>>7710182I've beaten it, shit's hard. Not a great game though. Plays like typical early Genesis, Ed Annunziata stuff. Looks, plays, and sounds a lot like the first Genesis X-Men title.
>>7710182Quack Shot and this was the first Mega Drive games I ever played, look next-gen as fuck compared to the NES at the time.It has a really cool dark grungy art direction all the way through to the ear-rape use of the FM sound chip, but it's just not a fun game to play and that's really sad considering it's cool aesthetics.Similar games on the Mega Drive that pulls off controls a bit better is Blades of Vengeance and Galahad.
>>7710575So tired of seeing this ugly retard and his fatass friend in my reqs
DreamWeb, a PC point & click cyberpunk adventure game. Was apparently a blip in the media at the time for a couple gory sequences and nudity, other than that it's a pretty little known cult-classic gem.
>>7710675>*forgot to attach picture*
A solid mix of elements from Zelda, Castlevania, Mario, and the movie. Not sure why this game doesn't get as much love.
>>7710675holy shit this looks awesome, gonna check it out.
>>7710679Have seen it but not played it
>>7710715It's freeware and legaly available on the ScummVM site, be sure to get the CD version. Here are some useful stuff from the manual, just take a picture of this on your phone and pull it up when you think you need it:Door Code: 5106Garbage Day: WednesdayEdwns Birthday: 17th FebNetwork Password: Blackdragon.Network Commands:LISTREADLOGON (example: LOGON RYAN)KEYSHELPEXIT__________Enjoy!
>>7710756Based helpful poster
>>7710710I don't think it's bad but to me, it doesn't play extremely well. Just feels sort of clunky; surprising considering how well Castlevania plays.
>>7711373How did that guy to the right of the plane pull off that sick 90 degree shot with his hand covering his face?
It's a pretty decent game from Westwood Studios if you play it more like an adventure game rather than the Zelda clone it looks like. This game REALLY benefits from using composite + CRT shaders if you're going to emulate it, the raw pixels just makes it look ultra bland and not like it did on OG hardware.
>>7711395>only you played>geneforge>there are 5 games in the series>there is even a remake for the first one released this yearYou have no idea what you are doing, anon.
>>7707596Played a bit of this, mixed on it.It definitely has that "3 out of 5 game" feel but even a poor man's megaman is pretty fun. The difficulty feels unbalanced though and pretty rough around the edges in terms of level design.>>7709440>>7709469They actually removed all the original cutscenes in the US release, making it basically have no story as they didn't replace them with anything either.
>>7711427>there are 5 games in the series>there is even a remake for the first one released this yearThis has been debunked.
>>7711389What 90 degree shot?
>>7711430The hell you mean, mate?
Took me longer than I care to admit to figure out it's name.
Got a copy of this recently as part of a lot of PC gamesThere's some neat ideas here but god damn it is yank as fuck
Quarantine (1994) for the PC, a cyberpunk game that's a cross between Carmageddon and Crazy Taxi where you drive around in pretty big city maps for the time.Has a great and VERY 1994 redbook audio soundtrack, in fact everything in this game just oozes early 90s.
>>7707596This shits kino
>>7707664Marion has the cum stains of tens of thousands of fans around the world
>>7711373I have some vr trivia related to this game. On the instructions they said if you sent away to gremlins office this card they'd send you back a poster with all the countries in the game on there. I was excited and actually learned about the world from it lmao. But anyway my mum phoned them and it turned out they didn't have any copies left so I never did get a monty mole poster (but it was 5 years old at that point so there you go). I didn't mind - I learned to not expect much from corporations even at that age
>>7711641>>7711373And (samefag here) after a quick Google I've found this https://www.gremlinarchive.com/index.php/2016/05/27/auf-wiedersehen-monty-poster/So apparently SOMEONE at the company had a copy. Bastards. I want my badge :(
>>7710679>*forgot to attach picture*At least it wasn't a typo. That'd invalidate everything you've ever said.
>>7710679>posts the gore instead of the nuditybruh
>>7711710Nudity is for fags.
>>7711721Maybe that's why he wanted to see the pixelated dick in the next screen so bad instead?
>>7711650That lucky bastard, indeedI want another one too :(
>>7711791Whaaaaaaaaat. Obligatory pics / or didn't happen?????
>>7710581It's a mediocre game but it has an awesome atmosphere. There was a dreamcast sequel planned at a point.
>>7709414I'm guessing you're the brainless button mashing fighting game kind of guy.
>>7707596Yes, please. Tell me about your rare gems.
>>7711743My digga, Golveious Valley of Doom. I love that game.
>>7711190Not just you, great game
>>7712320Stop polluting this thread with that garbage.
>>7710509Fuck you. It's a decent game.
>>7711804I don't have any poster anon, you're getting in wrong
>>7707596I've beaten that on my NES like 10 years ago
>>7707596>>7707596hey I remember thatdidn't get very far in the game though
>>7713539shit, meant to quote >>7711583 in the second part
>>7712984Just trying to stop you idiots from giving coomlectors more games to hoard.
Jurassic Park (1993) by Ocean for the PC, it's a 2D isometric action adventure with 3D FPS sections going into buildings. If you enjoyed the SNES game this has the same formula, but does everything better so you will definitively like this one too. It's abandon-ware and be sure to get the PC version and DOSbox it, as the Amiga 500/1200 versions are VERY slow and sluggish in comparison.
>>7713620Thankfully the only CDs I buy are blank ones.
So many Compile titles are underappreciated
>>7714113I can't even find any information about this game besides it was on PC-98 and some people uploaded it's BGM and a single Japanese website http://rygames.sblo.jp/article/180712032.html
>>7714113It's not even mentioned on the Compile Wikipedia page.
>>7713949Looks pretty good, definitely gotta try this
>>7714574>>7714582yea, that's about how it is for any classic compile game that isn't called "puyo puyo" or "madou monogatari"it's good you should play it anons, if nothing else listen to the ost, Tsuyoshi's music is always killerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMCROtXCsAQ
I really liked this shit as a kid, looked it up years later and apparently it reviewed poorly because it couldn't live up to f-zero or some shitsoundtrack is still good thohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz3xGLUWboE
Uridium 2. It doesn't help that it was an Amiga game. I've met a couple of people who had the green demo disc they got off the front cover of Amiga Power but nobody else who actually had the full game.
>>7707596TECMO World Cup '92
>>7715559TECMO World Cup '93It's funny, these two games were actually made by SIMS, but since both were ports of the arcade game "TECMO World Cup '90" they borrowed the name. Both are stellar games btw, at least to me, they're fun :3
>>7711389I get what you mean but that shot is coming from the guy under the wing. You can see him under the protag's right hand.
>>7713041I've posted this piece of crap in a few of these threads and literally never gotten a response. I'm really starting to think I'm the only person who played it.
>>7710158Played that for real a couple of weeks ago. Pretty good if you get the hang of it of the controls and powerups. The whiter haired guy seems to be the best.
William Shatner's TekWar (1995) for the PC is a futuristic mission based first-person shooter that's a little bit like Strife with a twist of proto-Deus Ex.I got this from the bargain bin at my video rental store really cheap in 97, I've never completed it and the best part about playing it is imagining what it COULD have been as there is a lot of potential in it's ideas but the execution just never quite delivers. TekWar also had a TV series and straight-to-VHS movies based on Shatner's TekWar books, I found those to be a rather OK watch if you're into early 90s sci-fi TV.It's at least least worth checking out as there are some cool ideas in the game for the time.
>>7707596Lots of people have played thisHonestly "hidden gems" on the NES, SNES, and Genesis have been played by most "retro gamers" due to ease of emulation, the popularity of the consoles, and the brevity of these games so many of them can be played and completed quickly.
>>7707596Magical Doropie is pretty good surprisingly, if it received a romhack or something to make movement more Mega Man-like or at least fixed the shitty broom it would be solid.
>>7717174I'm pretty sure only consoles hard to emulate now have hidden gems.
>>7709505It's not exactly good but the story is genuinely hilarious at times. I found the game to be worthwhile. But it does need a patch that some guy who worked on it made after it was released. The patch fixes some bugs or something and also (crucially) adds a speedup button like what emulators often give you. You can use this button to fix the JRPG-ness of the game. It's also good for running through large areas when you're just backtracking or whatever and don't feel the need to pointlessly watch your dude go through his running animation for another thirty seconds. They kinda fell on their face with the battle systems, but you can see they were really trying to make something good. The game has a lot of heart.
>>7717021I downloaded all the Tekwar TV stuff last year or so and haven't gotten around to watching any of it yet. But the game has been meme'd on a bit by some jewtubers so people are aware of it, just hardly anyone has played the damn thing.
>>7713991Does anyone make good ones anymore?Or is it all Vietnamese shit now?
>>7718232I'm currently using decade old Memorex discs, I haven't had any issues with them on my PS2 playing PS1 backups, however there was a bit of an issue with my Saturn, most likely being the laser (If you're going to pirate shit for that console then just get an ODE, I regret fucking around with Pseudo Saturn).People usually recommend this fancy brand called Taiyo Yuden, it's probably your safest bet but I don't think it'll do wonders.
A cool game, but it's incredibly short, feels rushed and unfinished and the difficulty is unbalanced and all over the place. It's a shame because there was real potential for an amazing game here.
>>7710679For some reason the dude's profile always being there ruins this game for me.
>>7713620guarantee you what you're doing is having the opposite effect of everything you think it's doing
Code of the Samurai on the PS2 is probably one of the most obscure games I played. PAL only localization which features art by Nobuhiro Watsuki and a unique battle system.
battle game on a floating platform, you shove, throw or tilt the platform with your weight to make enemies fall off.also a really old official page for the game still exists: http://www.bandaigames.channel.or.jp/list/s_egg2.htm
>>7711373Oh shit, I didn't know there were sequels and a prequel to Monty on The Run.
Liked the storyline and the varied zones and enemies
>>7710668but he has a fren with big ol milkers
>>7718649Just watched a video of the English fan patch. Rushed feels like the right word. The events of the plot (at least from what I saw) advance very quickly and sometimes borderline nonsensically. Finding the proper way to advance the story also seems tedious, as the world looks filled with loads of empty dressing that does little to actually worldbuild, making it one of those games where you kind of just have to wander around and stumble upon the right thing to do. A shame because I agree, there's a cool (if clichéd) foundation here, and I'm a sucker for that 90's anime aesthetic.
>>7707596Don't recall this one being talking about much.
>>7719779Is that like Panic Restaurant.
>>7719770That sums it up pretty much. Not an awful game, just a little disappointing.
>>7709485Nakayoshi to Issho
>>7709485Sorry, didn't see this reply>>7720489A fun game, ever play it? You should.
Some weird on rail shooter with rpg elements
>>7707596Why were all the stages like a downwards staircase exactly? I like this game it's just weird to me that all the stages follow that patternAlso I really like how this game handles jumping when there's a low ceiling
7th cross evolution for dreamcast. Really weird game. Eat smaller creatures and evolve. I got got it from a classmate for free back in the day. I've only seen it for sale a few times. Anyone play it before?
>>7707624>MAGMML2Ragequit this after playing what felt like 5 fucking billion gravity-flipping stages. Is it as bad as I remember?

>>7707596Space Fishermen. Discovered a translated demo on a demo disc.Art is done by spumco, the studio found by John K of Ren and Stimpy fame, which is why I'm really surprised it didn't make it to the US, which I will forever mourn. It's fun as hell; a mix of fishing, pokemon style collecting, using previous catches as bait to catch bigger stuff, and mini game style catching that make the OG Mario party look like a saint when it comes to destroying your hands. For the latter reason, I don't know if I could handle it these days, especially after wrist surgery. I got about halfway through using a broken Engrish guide and translate on my phone camera, but got lost when I came back after a long break.

>>7707596This one is so obscure that I'm wondering if I dreamt it.It was a computer game, I'm pretty sure for mac. I played it when I was 3 or 4 in the mid 90s. You played as some explorer guy who looked like an Indiana Jones knockoff. You're in a prehistoric area with dinosaurs and cavemen that want to kill you. I specifically remember that you start near an egg that hatches into a hostile dinosaur, and the cavemen spawn from some cave that you can enter but the camera doesn't follow you in, making it a death trap. Dying causes your head to pop off with a spring.I've tried to find the name of this game numerous times but I can't. I just end up getting Bonk or another famous caveman game. If this game actually exists, then I mighy truly be the only one who played it.
>>7719779I played this one as a kid. It's one of those roms you download cuz it has a funny name.

>>7726157I remember this game from that Game Empire 250 shareware CDthat and the alien bat thingy shmup
>>7707596The developers had several things planned for this game but unfortunately had to remove them or simply couldn't implement due to time limitations, they knew it wouldn't do much in sales and it was basically a tech demo meant to finalize the engine for FFX and Kingdom Hearts, and yet it didn't stop them for putting effort, care and passion into this game
