which is the definitive Mario game?
Mario 3 in his frog suit would smoke every level of Super Mario World.Remember Mario fought giants in Mario 3.
>>7452581Mario World was pretty easy compared to the first three Super Mario Bros games.
>>7452607I thought USA 2 was the hardest. Mostly because it was boring as fuck.
>>7452581If smb3 had been released for snes it would have been a better game.Unfortunately it became the template for the bad games in the franchise.
>>7452581Mario 3. Even if you completely take away all the additional powerups, mini-games, superior final boss and Koopaling battles, and all of the secrets of 3 the level design completely shits on World. World's levels outside of the Special World are way too flat.
>>7452652They also give you practically infinite lives and let you fly over a lot of them. Mario 3 had the balls to just say "OK, here's a powerup that'll let you skip the stage if you want. Enjoy it while it lasts". World is like >You can fly anywhere!>I can?>Yes! Enjoy!>So I can just fly over the entire level then?>Well, yes, but>Flies over level.>Yay, good job player!
The only 2D one I ever liked was super mario world but I wouldn't consider myself a Mario fan.
mario 3 has more of everything. more fun ,more challenge, more variety
>>7452581Let me think. Both of them are.
>>7452581for me its super mario land on gameboy
>>7452708Only shitters fly over the entire level, anon. It's a personal choice like God mode-ing your way through Doom.
>>7452581Super Mario Bros 3 was the last good mario game. Super Mario World was normalfag bait and plunged the series into eternal soulless mandate hell
>>7454208are you saying "it was all a dream/play" isn't more mandate than going to dinosaur land?
>>7454208>mario wasnt normalfag bait before worldWew lad
>>7454318>it was all a playThat's just the inspiration for the visuals, not some sort of deeply important canonical concept like people increasingly bring it up as for some reason. It's like claiming Yoshi's Island "was all a children's picture book" No much point in arguing though, Buzzfeed-tier "Did you know" memes do have a way to snowball up.
>>7454391>designer does something fun with the graphics because it looks neat>decades later soulless zoomers insist the game was literally a stage play in the Mario universe
>>74525813. world has no battle mode
>>7452638It was the first I beat, followed by 3 then 1.
While I do love them both, in the end:Super Mario Bros 3 > Super Mario World
>>7454412it is a play, which is why Egadd's has no footage
>>7454039difference is that god mode in doom is a cheat, the cape is a basic powerup that you can find in almost every level
>>7455631agreed. 3 was alittle too hard for me. World was much easier to get into and finish
>>7455484I fucking love this concept which is another reason why I prefer 3. This along with the masonic checkerboard make it a very esoteric game.
>>7454039The fact that this is a debate means Mario World isn't as good. We're just guessing at what they intended.
>>7455798
>>7454039You're right, but even so, Mario World's levels just weren't that interesting to me, personally, and I think a lot of that has to do with said levels being left to right affairs with not much reason, if you even have the option, to go up and down. Of course, that's disregarding the secret exits and stuff, but those usually just lead to more left to right levels. Something I love about 3 is that the levels were more like boxes instead of rectangles, if that makes sense? There was just stuff all around the place to find, and while point A and point B would still be on the left and right respectively, actually going between the two of them could be more involved than that. That one Goomba Shoe level in World 5 comes to mind.
SMB3 had:>better level design>better power-ups>better enemies>better boss fights>better soundtrack (in terms of actual composition, not the sound quality)>better art direction and themes for worlds>original Mario Bros battle mode>more challengeSMW had:>Yoshi>spin jump>better soundtrack (in terms of sound quality, not composition)>better secrets>better graphics
Neither
>>7452581Mario 3 is jam packed full of so much fucking content and has so many secrets I wouldn't be surprised if there are still ones that are undiscovered.World was blatantly rushed to meet the SNES launch window and it feels empty in comparison, no effort in the level design.
>>7456391Why are they looking at each other?
>>7452581I really need to play SMB 3 and SMW back to back again.
>>7452581Unironically soul vs soulless. Everything in SMW is so fucking bland and flat. It's a fine game but everything just feels so stale and boring compared to SMB3.
SMB3 JP version, because you lose all your power ups with one hit unlike the US version
>>7456414SMW had a dogshit soundtrack. Almost everything is just a different rendition of the first level theme, the instruments sound muted as shit and none of the songs ever sound like they use more than 4 channels. I bet it single-handedly gave Sega retards the impression that the SNES sound chip was worse.
>>7453794Thanks for your insight alphonse
>>7455484There is a play theme but this is mostly overthinking.
>>7459639also this kind disproves it
>>7455484That Egadd clip is highlighting each console iteration. SMB for NES, SMW for SNES and SM64 for N64.
>>7454039>Only shitters fly over the entire levelBy your logic using spread shot in contra makes you a shitter
>>7452581Super Mario Bros 5 when?
