ITT: games that were done justice by their remakes.
>DuckTales NES>regarded as one of the better licensed platformers on the console back then and to this day>DuckTales remake on modern platforms>it arrived, was talked about for all of 5 minutes, and only got brought up when people want to talk about a "good" remake before REmake 2 came outI really don't feel it lived up the original's legacy.
only fuckups were:>a literal non-issue (not fixing the underleveling phenomenon which doesn't matter if you use some semblance of strategy)>GB sounds having a fucked up soundfont>not spreading the movetutors throughout the game so you could recreate Gen 2 movesets earlier on (eg. Typholosion with ThunderPunch)
>>7444739hey, like, have you guys ever played an NES game that was genuinely bad...like a terrible, unfinished, uninspired pile of shovelware junk. I have a hard time coming across any bad nes games. I played a game called Felix the cat for gods sake, and it wasnt as bad as it would have been if a game with a similar name released on the SNES or N64.
>>7445089that's not a remake, it's just the third game of the gen
>>7445098I'm saying Crystal got remade into HG/SS
>>7445101HG/SS is maybe the best remake ever
>>7445101Gen2 wasn't made for the Physical/Special Split, so HG/SS's balance became even more of a trainwreck.
>remakes for pixel haters
>>7445120What's the difference ?
>>7445126ugly shitty tablet looking art
is this board just half bait threads now?
>>7444739Oh yeah? If it was so good, why wasn't a sequel even planned?
>>7445157I sold a mint in box Ducktales 2 for NES just months ago and I let it go for $20, knowing it was worth $200, no regrets, I hope they enjoy and play it and it doesn't end up on a shelf of an autist who considers it an investment.
>>7445153"If you don't like it, just hide the thread. ;)"
>>7445147I still have Platinum. I'm good.
>>7445034It didn't. It made a quick buck riding high on nostalgia and looked and played as good as a remake of a 2D game could get (but somehow they couldn't do basic lip syncing for cutscenes). Came out at the absolute perfect time.Still looks better than the new cartoon.
>>7445097ye olde consoles were pretty good about having games that were finished and actually worked, even if they sucked
>>7445129If you play any of those older games at the intended resolution on an old CRT, the art is just as simple. The lower resolution (particularly when stretched on a modern display) is simply giving you the illusion of detail. The Day of the Tentacle remaster illustrated this perfectly. Literally the same developers, same art, but because of the limitations of early 90's display the game's art itself is simple. This SOUL shit needs to die>>7445772The technology isn't the issue, the way they used it is. Completely different color scheme and level layout. See last statement above
>>7445153>I don't like this opinion so it's bait
>>7444739>DuckTales Remastered will make you doubt happy memories from your childhood, or leave you baffled as to why people were nostalgic for such dull platforming in the first place. --Tom McShea
>>7444739I was very happy with the cutscenes featuring most surviving voice artists from the cartoon, chiefly Alan Young for Scrooge and June Foray for Magica, both well into their 90's at the time. I still like playing the NES game more. The theme for the new Vesuvius level by Virt is a banger, howeverhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9rMfPjn1n0
>>7444739Remake is cringe trash.
>>7445153Thank the jannies.
>>7445034>>7448423I agree. Great idea just executed from the wrong angle. For a proper way to do it, see pic related.
>>7448552>tfw the drums kick in at 1:16https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUsyqVUZ5zk
>>7445153While /sp/ spawns /xs/ and /pw/, we're forced to deal with /v/ turd because mods are retards.
>>7444739The remake is awful.>>7445034>modern stupid shit from retarded devs ruins a simple and fun experience
>>7448652>The remake is awful.Why?
Crash and - mostly - Spyro trilogies.
>>7444739What remake? See look it's delis-Wait it got relisted? what the fuck
>>7448552>your wife was your arm THE WHOLE TIMEyeah this game was totally not cringe.couldn't at least have made his wife his hand for memes?
>>7444739Worst remake of all time, IMO, is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled. I would be willing to put up with the soulless graphics if they at least kept the original soundtrack.
>>7445097I actually love felix the cat! It's one of my favorite cartoony platformers on the NES.
>>7444739Wild Guns Reloaded and Ninja Warriors Once Again.
>>7444739Wasn't there a gameboy color version of this too? I think I had that as a kid. How does it compare?
>>7445034because no one cares about platformers today
>>7448552One of the few things that really belongs here. Dead faithful to the original while still doing a little of it’s own thing.
>>7445164>>7445164If they wanted to play it, they'd play the rom like everybody else does. They've got it on the shelf and they're laughing at your dumb ass for giving them $180.
>>7454183There was a Game Boy version (not color), and it was not as good.
What's better, Ducktales Remastered or Castle of Illusion Remastered?
>>7444739Agreed. I'll never understand how someone could hate the remake, assuming they are a fan of the original.
>>7454569>still in shrink wrapGood idea when you can just download the episodes and pirate the PC version.
>>7452348You're mixing up Rearmed with the 3D reboot.
>>7454557Ducktales. It's an enhanced remake of the NES game with longer and new stages, but it plays the same. Castle of Illusion is almost a reimagining and they added a whole bunch of 3D shit parts.
How has this not been posted? Seriously, it isn’t just the best remake ever, it might be the best game ever.
>>7444739WayForward are shovelware devs that get by on coombait and clever nistalgia marketing
>>7454657Rearmed was part of the 3D reboot, and it's implied in a couple spots that his wife is in his arm even then.
>>7454712>remake game>add enough new content that it's worth playing even if you've played the originalNooo stop it with your nostalgia marketing you coomers nooo
>>7448687/vretards/ hate everything new
>>7444739Is the 2nd game good too? I remember playin it when I was like 5.
>>7445772>solid black backgroundhelp me guys I'm drowning with so much soul
>>7445034>An good video game remake of a good game about a 20+ year old dead cartoon wasn't talked about much. What did you want?
>>7454648I also have the game downloaded on Wii U, PS3 and Xbox One, and this was before they delisted it once (not sure if it's back) but not taking any chances.>>7454712Lame opinion. I'm not saying all of their games are 10/10, but the ones that completely went under the radar need more appreciation.
>>7457010>(not sure if it's back)It is back, on Steam at least.
>>7457130Glad to hear. One of the main reasons I detest digital media.
>>7445097>I have a hard time coming across any bad nes gamesthen you're either a toddler or haven't bothered to go through the entire dump of shit stretching all regions.
>>7457327Action 52 is a bootleg, anon.
>>7444739>o, my sprite soulForget the faggy boomers, this is objectively one of the best remakes ever
>>7458212>Plays only in 2D
>>7445097play something published by Ocean or LJN.
>>7458212just remember, you made me post this
>>7460480The tribal Shy Guy looks modernized to the standard body shape to me. The GBA version has a bigger mask and smaller limbs.
>>7459762>3DLiterally no one cares about it
>>7461503I do :(
>>7460480This is because Miyamoto is a fucking autist and loses his shit when anything drifts too far away from his "canon" designs. Same reason why Paper Mario is so generic now.
