ITT: games that were done justice by their remakes.
>>
>DuckTales NES
>regarded as one of the better licensed platformers on the console back then and to this day
>DuckTales remake on modern platforms
>it arrived, was talked about for all of 5 minutes, and only got brought up when people want to talk about a "good" remake before REmake 2 came out
I really don't feel it lived up the original's legacy.
>>
only fuckups were:
>a literal non-issue (not fixing the underleveling phenomenon which doesn't matter if you use some semblance of strategy)
>GB sounds having a fucked up soundfont
>not spreading the movetutors throughout the game so you could recreate Gen 2 movesets earlier on (eg. Typholosion with ThunderPunch)
>>
>>7444739
hey, like, have you guys ever played an NES game that was genuinely bad...like a terrible, unfinished, uninspired pile of shovelware junk. I have a hard time coming across any bad nes games. I played a game called Felix the cat for gods sake, and it wasnt as bad as it would have been if a game with a similar name released on the SNES or N64.
>>
>>7445089
that's not a remake, it's just the third game of the gen
>>
>>7445098
I'm saying Crystal got remade into HG/SS
>>
>>7445101
HG/SS is maybe the best remake ever
>>
>>7445101
Gen2 wasn't made for the Physical/Special Split, so HG/SS's balance became even more of a trainwreck.

is this board just half bait threads now?
>>
>>7444739
Oh yeah? If it was so good, why wasn't a sequel even planned?
>>
>>7445157
I sold a mint in box Ducktales 2 for NES just months ago and I let it go for $20, knowing it was worth $200, no regrets, I hope they enjoy and play it and it doesn't end up on a shelf of an autist who considers it an investment.
>>
>>7445153
"If you don't like it, just hide the thread. ;)"
>>
>>7445147
I still have Platinum. I'm good.
>>
>>7445034
It didn't. It made a quick buck riding high on nostalgia and looked and played as good as a remake of a 2D game could get (but somehow they couldn't do basic lip syncing for cutscenes). Came out at the absolute perfect time.

Still looks better than the new cartoon.
>>
>>7445097
ye olde consoles were pretty good about having games that were finished and actually worked, even if they sucked

If you play any of those older games at the intended resolution on an old CRT, the art is just as simple. The lower resolution (particularly when stretched on a modern display) is simply giving you the illusion of detail. The Day of the Tentacle remaster illustrated this perfectly. Literally the same developers, same art, but because of the limitations of early 90's display the game's art itself is simple. This SOUL shit needs to die

>>7445772
The technology isn't the issue, the way they used it is. Completely different color scheme and level layout. See last statement above

>DuckTales Remastered will make you doubt happy memories from your childhood, or leave you baffled as to why people were nostalgic for such dull platforming in the first place. --Tom McShea
>>
>>7445153
Yeah.
>>
>>7444739
I was very happy with the cutscenes featuring most surviving voice artists from the cartoon, chiefly Alan Young for Scrooge and June Foray for Magica, both well into their 90's at the time. I still like playing the NES game more.
The theme for the new Vesuvius level by Virt is a banger, however

I agree. Great idea just executed from the wrong angle.
For a proper way to do it, see pic related.

While /sp/ spawns /xs/ and /pw/, we're forced to deal with /v/ turd because mods are retards.

The remake is awful.

Why?

Crash and - mostly - Spyro trilogies.
>>

What remake? See look it's delis-
Wait it got relisted? what the fuck
>>
>>7448552
>your wife was your arm THE WHOLE TIME
yeah this game was totally not cringe.

couldn't at least have made his wife his hand for memes?
>>
>>7444739
Worst remake of all time, IMO, is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled. I would be willing to put up with the soulless graphics if they at least kept the original soundtrack.
>>
>>7445097
I actually love felix the cat! It's one of my favorite cartoony platformers on the NES.
>>
>>7444739
Wild Guns Reloaded and Ninja Warriors Once Again.
>>
>>7444739
Wasn't there a gameboy color version of this too? I think I had that as a kid. How does it compare?
>>
>>7445034
because no one cares about platformers today
>>
>>7448552
One of the few things that really belongs here. Dead faithful to the original while still doing a little of it’s own thing.
>>
>>7445164
>>7445164
If they wanted to play it, they'd play the rom like everybody else does. They've got it on the shelf and they're laughing at your dumb ass for giving them $180.
>>
>>7454183
There was a Game Boy version (not color), and it was not as good.
>>
What's better, Ducktales Remastered or Castle of Illusion Remastered?

Agreed. I'll never understand how someone could hate the remake, assuming they are a fan of the original.
>>
>>7454569
>still in shrink wrap
Good idea when you can just download the episodes and pirate the PC version.
>>
>>7452348
You're mixing up Rearmed with the 3D reboot.
>>
>>7454557
Ducktales. It's an enhanced remake of the NES game with longer and new stages, but it plays the same. Castle of Illusion is almost a reimagining and they added a whole bunch of 3D shit parts.
>>
How has this not been posted? Seriously, it isn’t just the best remake ever, it might be the best game ever.
>>
>>7444739
WayForward are shovelware devs that get by on coombait and clever nistalgia marketing
>>
>>7454657
Rearmed was part of the 3D reboot, and it's implied in a couple spots that his wife is in his arm even then.
>>
>>7454712

>>7454648
I also have the game downloaded on Wii U, PS3 and Xbox One, and this was before they delisted it once (not sure if it's back) but not taking any chances.

>>7454712
Lame opinion. I'm not saying all of their games are 10/10, but the ones that completely went under the radar need more appreciation.
>>
>>7457010
>(not sure if it's back)
It is back, on Steam at least.

This is because Miyamoto is a fucking autist and loses his shit when anything drifts too far away from his "canon" designs. Same reason why Paper Mario is so generic now.
