Underappreciated N64 games thread.
>>7286874but hes holding a sword?
>>7286874The aura in this game makes me fucking laugh, I swear some skinny white metalhead made it or at least design it. Pojo the chicken made this game so memorable.
>>7286874
Been playing Space Station Silicon Valley and it's just great. It has so much personality. https://youtu.be/OUaM88nap2g
>>7286874How similar to mortal kombat 4 is this?
>>7286986As opposed to a fat hispanic metalhead?
This game has great multiplayer
>>7287230Not very Try War Gods
>>7286874Custom Robo 1 & 2
There are so few games for the system that it's hard to say anything is "underrated" (with a few exceptions).
>>7286874Castlevania 64 and G.A.S.P
>>7286874mischief makers and bomberman 64
How is Hybrid Heaven? I want to try it someday. Seems fairly unique with the turn based wrestling combat
>>7288152It's fun and you should play it
>>7288212I will whenever I can get a cheap copy on Ebay or at my local shop
>>7287052Yea I member that. We'd rent any game regardless of reviews back then. Even Clayfighters... I hated that jungle level though.. Silicone valley got tricky for a youngster starting out in the 90s
>>7287821It does indeed. I have a memory of being banned from using a robot guy who dual wields because I could shoot through surfaces? I don't remember exactly, it was about 20 years ago.
I never see this one mentioned, and it is legit really good and so much fun to play to this day, and it's four players!
>>7288289please be trolling
>>7288292not at all. what part of what i said is trolling?
>>7288276Great game. One of the ten best on the system, but not underappreciated a bit.
>>7288294this is an underrated thread. thats almost like saying ocarina of time is underrated
>>7288152Neat idea, but it's really dull. The game makes you think there's going to be this Metal Gear Solid style storyline and then after just a bit they stop doing anything interesting. It's also just running through the same looking map and every fight is total rng.
>>7288301I didn't know it was so highly regarded here, or known.
>>7288323well to be fair ive never heard anyone talk about blast corps either, so maybe i should hold my tongue
>>7288324It was the first Rare title on the system, so all of us Nintendo fanboys were waiting for it since it was announced and when it came out it didn't disappoint. I guess to anyone who wasn't a fanboy back then it skirted under the radar because a few months later Goldeneye hit the system.
>>7288338>because a few months later Goldeneye hit the systemmust be this then, none of my friends new what it was at time, most people i talk to are like what?
>>7286997rented this from a shitty VHS rental place and it was pretty good
>>7286879This game was shit. I remember getting into snes jrpgs right before this came out and I was so buttmad when I rented it. Shitty graphics, no party members, no cool combat mechanics or music. What a flop.
>>7288323It's discussed here sometimes, but not that often. Not sure what that other guy is on about.
>>7287638I don’t think this is under appreciated but it’s definitely the greatest n64 game
>>7288641Well, all the people who played it appreciate it but those are not that many.
Right about now, it's time to rock with the biggity Buck Bumble
>>7288673As an autistic 12 year old i cleared this, cool concept but the game was dogshit. Lets be real.
>>7288608First RPG I ever played, I think, so I liked it. Difficulty spikes a lot, though, but the graphics, music, gameplay system, and atmosphere were extremely good. Clearly rushed, however, which is well known by now, but it's still great imo.
>>7287079I want to lime this game, but I played a ROM of it a few years ago and hated it. Redpill me on it.
>>7286997Who hates this one?
>>7287909yes sin and punishment, definitely not a game that places on every single "best of the n64" list ever written
>>7288784Never even met a single person who knew it existed
It might seem shit at first but it's amazing when you learn the mechanics and don't die in 35 seconds.
>>7288770i feel like Quest is the perfect base game to mod if it could be done. texture packs, more weapons, party members, shit you could do anything if it was recreated from scratch
>>7288912Truly was an open-world action RPG. Some might say Imagin(eer)ative. Shame it got so botched by the press and development mishaps.
>>7286997Upgrade in every way from original. Shame it didn't sell as well.
>>7289604Wasn't it quite late in the system's life?
>>7287397He's baiting for replies.>>7286874Battle Tanx was a good one, I don't really hear people talk about it these days.
>>7289616Thing is the first BattleTanx game was meh. My mates and I had great fun in the multiplayer, but that was about it. Only three tank types (Two really, one was worthless in single player), dull levels, dull music, it was a slog to play through.Global Assault was an upgrade in every way and is a fucking great game. Better multiplayer, powerups, tanks, and levels. It turned a meh game into an amazing one.
>>7288641I had it, thought it was mega boring and traded it in for Paper Mario64 a few years back.
>>7288775Redpill? Get that cring /pol / shit out if here, magit
Chameleon Twist is a fun little game. Is the sequel any good?>>7289928How do you play this exactly? The AI always beats my ass.
>>7288279Pretty sure that was originally going to be a final fight game but they didn’t think it was good enough to associate it with the franchise.
>>7290225I think streaming works in the game (stay behind someone, you go faster). It's still hella hard tho.
>>7286997I bought my self a copy of this right before the Plandemic hit. I think I paid Forty for it.
>>7288116I hate Castlevania 64 with a passion.
>>7288790We don't talk to people IRL. So who gives a fuck about that ?
>>7290782haha i kekd
>>7290782then no games meet the thread criteria, every single game thats half decent has people on the internet who appreciate. In the internet it makes little difference if its a little know game that sold badly or a mainstream title everyone still remembers. >>7289953>complex game with great plot filtered me, please give me Mariooo mommy!!
>>7289928>>7290225i know right, i swear i play this like podracing and the ai basically gets pushed farther ahead the better i play, i dont think ive ever come close to beating it
>>7289612great soundtrack
>>7290248Streets of Rage, actually
>>7292234The game rubberbands like hell. If you go too far ahead then the band comes back and slaps you in the face. Don't do it. The biggest issue I had was making sure I wasn't too far ahead.
Pros:>Open world environment>Decent storyCons:>Okay combat>Very slow paced everythingStill played the shit out of this in 4th and 5th grade.
>>7290169Based dilater.
>>7293173Unbased hog
multiplayer was godly, this was the game my parents got me when i got the 64, i was a very lucky child.
>>7286879Mediocre at best. For the n64, a game using the controller pak was a red flag - it'll probably be shit
>>7287625I rented this game to play one weekend but could never get far due to its janky camera. The thing gave me motion sickness and I stopped playing after the horror movie level. Very mediocre IMO, but then again that was just the first two levels. As for other underappreciated games though; I always liked Bomberman Hero better than the other two, and thought Chameleon Twist was pretty rad. Never played the second one though.
>>7295539>controller pak>red flagConfirmed underage.
>>7293771>hogNew reddit term that has no intelligible meaning except to force some leftist talking point or something? What am I hogging?
Plebs really try hard to like N64 games because so much of it's library is shit. We really didn't have much to choose from back then but i was lucky enough to also have other better consoles. You had the classics like Mario 64, Zelda, Turok, Goldeneye, Starfox, Banjo, Mario Kart and maybe a couple of others, and then you had over 95% of the already small N64 library being filled with utter shite.
>>7296230eating conservative slop and being too idiotic to know itexample: trump riled up the hogs for 2 months until they literally stormed the capital because they are dumb enough to think he actually won the election
>>7296230Seething chud incel detected
>>7286879I don't get why people keep trying to rehabilitate this piece of shit.
>>7296853>okay, so maybe I do need to open my mouth for corporations to take a dump in it, BUT
>>7296910>>7296892>>7296881unironically vote for politicians who don't think they deserve a fair working wage and health care, while said politicians give themselves pay raises and super cozy healthcare benefits.Keep licking Bezos et all boots while they make billions of dollars more than you to jerk off all day
>>7290248It was Streets of Rage and Sega backed out not due to quality but due to the devs wanting to make it multiplatform.
>>7296994You're right but don't bother trying to convince them. (Look at the comic that guy posted; it's completely irrelevant.) Also this doesn't have to do with the N64.>>7286874I always loved Re Volt, but the PC version is probably better than the N64.
>>7286879>>7296865Quest 64 (which should have been called Holy Magic Century) carries a very peculiar kind of nostalgia for those who played it through all the way. It oozes so much potential, even in its released form, which was so clearly still in alpha at best. The cities and countrysides are pretty, if unpolished, the dungeons look like they had the potential to be extremely fun if refined, and everywhere you look there's evidence that the devs had so much planned for the game.Look at Princess Flora in Dondoran, and Leonardo in Normoon. Their models make it obvious they were going to be party members. Glencoe Forest and Shamwood are these massive, yet completely off the beaten path optional areas where stuff was clearly supposed to happen, but the game was booted out the door just to line the N64's anemic roster of games. The game will never be good, unless some super dedicated autists get ahold of the source code and mod it harder than Morrowind, but what's there showed such promise. The graphics are pretty nice for an early N64 game, the soundtrack is great, some of the cities and regions (even if unfinished) are downright gorgeous, and the magic system had loads of potential, especially if paired with some kind of combo system with other party members. Most of the enemy models were impressive as well, especially the bosses. I mean, how many games had you fighting a hulking ogre scientist?
>>7297254nice contribution
>>7295531Took way too long for someone to bring this gem up
>>7297254 #Wow, great contribution, I agree
>>7296356wanna play virtual chess 64
>>7287909Holy shit, Sun & Punishment? That game was fucking great when I played it
>>7296356I won't deny that anon, but I grew up in a poor family. I had to run paper routes to play my games (Then hide it before my alcoholic mother tried to spend it on fucking booze). I think I only bought eight games for the N64, and by god there were games I wanted. Hell it was a miracle I got an N64 before my father died.I never had a playstation because I couldn't afford it, so I had to make due with what I had.
>>7296994Bruh you just elected George Bush 2. You're pro-war, pro-China slave labour, and anti-worker. Do you really have no have any self-awareness? Bezos' paper, the Washington Post, is dedicated to being anti-Trump.
>>7296853>Regardless of me sucking corporate cock, I'm against corporations and slave labor
Always surprises me that this doesn't get mentioned sooner. Eurojank at it's absolute finest.
>>7296356>classics like Mario 64, Zelda, Turok, Goldeneye, Starfox, Banjo, Mario Kartthats more than any sega console ever had>and then you had over 95% of the already small N64 library being filled with utter shite.Imagine this is 99.9% and you only have Sonic, a scotformer literally just made by commite out of spite for mario>>7296732>and definitely isn't a mindless consoomer. My mistake.you sound more like a communist than he is actually. I can never tell the difference between americans fighting over retarded american shit
>>7287635>this, right here. was a drought on new games so me and the mates mastered this turd
>>7297150>Look at the comic that guy posted; it's completely irrelevant. He said that the other anon was dumb for not having the latest and most expensive technology even though he says he's against the rich. Seems rather relevant.
>>7297254It's called Elemental Tale Monsters in Japan.
>>7288912>>7297254I like that, despite you guys not liking it, you see its strengths.
>>7299787Where? I just saw him say that he himself used a laptop from 2013.
>>7299342it was edgy on a way only a 90s game could be, even had a techno soundtrack iirc
>>7299808Other way around. Anon was disparaging the other one for "using a laptop from 2013" after being called out for saying he was against capitalism despite using an iPhone or some shit.
>>7299826No you're the one who's got it reversed. Anon 1 makes an anti-capitalist statement. Anon 2 says "sent from my iphone" to accuse 1 of hypocrisy. 1 replies "sent from my computer from 2013" to show that he isn't a mindless consumer who buys every shiny new thing. Now that I reread the conversation I can see why Anon 1's reply might have seemed like an insult directed at Anon 2, but post >>7296853 makes it clear that Anon 1 really meant that he himself was the owner of the laptop.
>>7295539Blast Corps, Tonic Trouble.
>>7293021There were better games you could have been playing.
>>7300045the n64 didn't have that many rpgs, it had ogre battle which was amazing, and was more of a tactical jrpg anyways but other than that? quest and that one, it was bad
>>7299868Maybe I did get mixed up. Interesting, thanks anon.
>>7301159Hybrid Heaven was interesting.
>>7297254This. Basically if you had read the 2 nintendo power previews they mention, party members, equipment, and riding horses. Give the game another 6 months and it would have probably been good.
>>7289928I swear if i ever get into game making i'm gonna rip this game off hard. Other spaceship racers don't allow you to fly upward because they're made by fucking cowards, that shit's fun.
>>7299286>"scotformer"Opinion discarded
This was another fun game. It was cashing in on the kart racing genre but I still enjoyed it.
>>7296214Loved this game and the 2.5D game after it.Shame they're pachinko machines now.
>>7299235This game was awesome. Frustrating that the concept hasn’t been used with modern tech. That level where you start as a fox on wheels and have to avoid the bear as it patrols the halls...that level had such a feel to it
https://cdn02.nintendo-europe.com/media/images/11_square_images/games_18/nintendo_9/SQ_N64_Bomberman64.jpgThe single player was a bit rough at times, but the multiplayer was such fun
