Windows 98 desktop (an hp with pent 3) is where I started, then xp nebook (acer from 2009 and don't recall specs), then older xp laptop (dell from like 2006ish with 1.8 ghz and etc), then android tablet, then android phones, then windows 7 netbook from probably 2010ish(1.6 ghz and 2 gigs ram).

I use both the android phone that has 1.8 ghz and the win7 laptop with 1.6 ghz. Which is better is a back and forth sort of thing, but generally this android I found on the ground that costs 150+ while no longer in production is good for it. It's even okay with some vr, or was before the free shit self destructed from jewgle play. Speaking of jewgle play, I have to disconnect from wifi to play games. Sim would probably need that removed too, but I don't actually zoom.exe so I've never had a smart phone sim even though I use smart phones for reading and emulation and such. 1.4 ghz and half a gig of ram is good for lots of things when I started years ago with some 7'' tablet with 4.4 android on it. Since then 5 version had better features, but after that it's a downgrade as usual. Even android went to shit. Speaking of shits I'm going to go take one, or I'd try to remember the specs more. Point is win9x I miss, but win7 and modern droids are okay.

SNES emulation is pretty shit on the Vita, N64 as well. It's great for emulating just about everything else though.
>>
I can't do emulation anymore.

Real hardware with flash carts or disc drive replacements has been achievable for most systems for a while now, and clone consoles are getting more and more accurate as well. Running some software emulator always results in input lag, various visual glitches, and the absence of many effects present on original hardware.
>>
>>7103391
>paying money for flashbacks and shit
>enabling faggotry
The rom and emulator sites WILL be gone over it.

Even if not it's less costly to use one system for it all, and it makes you more mobile. Say that the electricity goes out, how will you game then?
>>
>>7103407
ROM sites are becoming less needed. You can find the entirety of most consoles' ROM collections on archive.org or in some Mega library with a Google search.
>>
>>7103407
What the fuck are you trying to say, ESL?
>>
I like my old 3DS for GBA games, it runs them alright and usually gets the job done. Same with DS games. I have a vita but I prefer the clamshell design, and I bought a nice bag to go with my 3DS. Just wish there was one that did SNES emulation justice.

Bringing it with me to work is kind of a pain, but I don't mind.

My job gives me a shitload of free time. Are any of those modified phones / Chinese handhelds actually good for emulation? I'd love to buy one, but I've chosen against it until I gathered the proper research.

I want one for SNES emulation but n64 would be nice, too.

Flashbacks give companies an excuse to compare how much they sold their new versions or newly compiled collections of roms for x price, then they can sue for x damages emulator sites and take them all down.

I use a PSP Go because of the form factor and excellent d-pad. The Vita is a tantalising prospect in the future if the homebrew scene matures but right now my PSP is smaller and has better battery life.

PSP is obviously really old hardware and you'd assume that these newer machines would be better as a result, but they're just bad. Main issue for me is none of them have build quality on the same level as a DS/PSP. The d-pads are bad, the buttons mushy, the plastic cheap. I get that's it's really tough to put in the R&D to make something as robust and premium feeling as a PSP but even so, you'd think someone would do it. I'd pay a lot of money for a modern machine with a 5x integer scale for 240p and good inputs, but that does not exist.

PSP 3k or Go are both good options that have different niches. I like my Go for the better screen and d-pad but the 3k definitely has some advantages of its own.

>>7103313
Don't believe that meme, anon. SNES emulation on Vita is near perfect except for a super specific couple of games, mainly SA1 and FX chip.
>>
>>7105176
>mainly SA1 and FX chip.

>>
>>7103424
I'd use my N2ds for emulation more but I just hate how flimsy the top screen is. From what I've asked, it seems it's like this by design.
>>
>>7104981

>>
>>7105189
I use it often, so not likely to happen.
>>
>>7103271

>>
I'm fine with my Vita. Everything I want to play
in Retroarch runs perfectly, I have both the PSP, PS1 and Vita libraries available, the second analog is godsent, the screen is nice, the battery life decent. It just works for me.
I still have a PSP 3000 stored just in case but I need to buy a new micro SD thingie, you know which one, the one that fuses two SDs in one.
>>
>>7105225
I'm waiting until the Vita can handle Dreamcast or Saturn emulation. Here's to hoping Rinnegatamante continues to make strides in that department.
>>
>>7105056

This is my piece of shit giant brick. The original stick busted, and I'm pretty sure the battery is dead. Either that, or the charging port, because it won't hold a charge or even turn on.
I wish I would have taken better care of it, but it can't be changed now. Any recommendations for aftermarket plates and batteries nowadays? This is definitely still my preference as far as emulation.

Despite owning many handelds, the PSP Go is still my go-to handeld for me.
The fact that it can emulate two of the consoles i care the most about perfectly (PS1 and Genesis / Megadrive) alongside having some solid native ports on it makes it really attractive for me, not to mention the small size of it being perfect for putting it in your pocket or bag without taking much space.
I'm still looking forward into getting a Gameboy Micro, as well as waiting for third party offerings like the Retroid Pocket and RG351P to improve hardware and software wise (since from my own research they don't seem to be perfectly capable of emulating 5th gen well, which is what i'm mainly looking after); As i'm a sucker for small handelds.
>>
>>7105176
That's not "near perfect", that's the exact same as the compatibility on the PSP. The Vita's more than powerful enough that it shouldn't be struggling with the fucking SNES, it's just neglected from a homebrew standpoint.
>>
>emulation

Uh, why emulate when you can play the original games on the original hardware.

I like playing NES games on my fat DS. An emulator called "nesDS"

It's got one quirk that I really enjoy, I was replaying the Megaman games on it and something about the resolution/aspect ratio makes Megaman look FUCKING PISSED. Playing as Angry Megaman is a cool feature.

Why would you need two 3ds'? There's absolutely no downside to cfw on this thing, nintendo no longer bans even for out of region online play and this ain't like the shita where the cartridge slot is blocked by the sd card adapter, and restoring the nand leaves you with a completely clean system (unlike the shitch) in case you want to go back to stock.

if memory serves, DS and PSP emulation on the pocket 2 is great thanks to PPSSPP and Drastric, was it? even DC runs fine.
N64 emulation is touch and go but works for the most part with the correct settings for each game. which is a sight to behold considering no other portable can even achieve playable N64.

pocket 2 can do PS1, N64 is a bit iffy but works. don't think anything can run SS except phones. but it does emulate DC.
rg351p is slightly weaker and can't run DS, PSP or DC as well. but it seems to run N64 slightly better? maybe it's the software. build and screen quality are a bit better too, but the pocket 2 is built well enough.
pocket 2 is 4:3 and the rg351p is 16:9.

fat DS got a very interesting screen. it's almost a hybrid between analog and digital. there's probably a name for it that I'm missing, not well versed on the history of LCDs. GBA games look great on it, like it filters the sprites.
too bad they're prone to dead pixels. there's also a motherboard revisions that allows you to crank up the brightness.

Depends on what Switch you have. Early revisions have a gaping hardware vulnerability that makes the thing really easy to hack in such a way that Ninty can't patch it out (beware of updating though, since they can still break CFW through updates, but never the exploit itself). If you picked up the switch within the first year or so, you should have one that can do it. There's a way of determining if you can do it by checking the serial number on the back. Just go to /hbg/ on /vg/ and there's a guide in the first post.

If it's not hackable this way, you can still get a modchip, though I'm not sure how easy they are to acquire with how hard Ninty are attacking the creators.

Bricking is difficult to do (though beware of downloading random games online, since they can technically do it). However, Ninty can ban your console from ever going online if you're not careful, so keep that in mind.

However, I've never used the online once, so don't care. Very good emulation machine.

>though I'm not sure how easy they are to acquire with how hard Ninty are attacking the creators.
Nintendo literally had some cops break down the doors of Team Executor or something that was doing modchips and also charging people to access Nintendo ROMs and arrest them, so they're priddy serious.
I'll either wait a while or just get another Switch for hacking.

>"Imagine if something you invented was stolen from you and then marketed and sold to customers around the world. That is exactly what Team Xecuter was doing," said FBI Special Agent in Charge Raymond Duda. These arrests should send a message to would-be pirates that the FBI does not consider these crimes to be a game."

Yes, the efbeeeye is A-OK, with Satanic pedophiles, but mod chips are NO GOOD and exactly the same as the original hardware according to Special Agent Retard, there.

Good on Nintendo for once lol.
>>
>>7109267
Not really since they're going after people who offer ROMs that Nintendo doesn't own or even have a license to use, like Intellivision ROMs;et al. Also that taxpayer dollars are being used to go after those who sell devices that just allow for what people are going to do anyway in other manners is extremely stupid and evil when you realize that they look the other way while the country is literally burned to the ground.
Overstepping of authority in both regards is present.
>>
>>7109251
Law boomers are the worst for tech. Stupid rulings that make no sense. If the part was developed without any Nintendo copyrighted material, then there is nothing illegal about them. If someone uses it for piracy, that's their own problem.

Under this logic, hollywood should be able to sue every tv, pc, phone, and projector manufacturer in the world.

Yes, it's madness. They even claim it's "exactly what Team Xecuter" was doing when they know damn well it's not the same thing. "Exactly"would be if Team Xecuter stole real property, e.g., a shipment of real Nintendo Switch's, or if they got a hold of all the documentation and built their own exact clones of the Switch;etc.
Yeah, we know that, but they know that too is my point. At the end he says it's not a game, but they're playing it like it is because they're not going by the law that's for sure.

I've got a 3DS and PSP with CFW but both are shit. The emulation is shit and even though i've got manlet hands you can still tell they are made for kids hands and the dpad locations are just terrible for retro games.
Retroarch on a modern phone with a controller clip smokes everything else. Even have my saves synced to my PC RA set up.

95% of snes library runs fullspeed on the.vita.
>>
>>7109516
>95% of snes library runs fullspeed on the.vita.
That doesn't sound like praise for the Vita, dude. lol Maybe in 2005 that was acceptable, but come on pirate chinkshit plays SNES perfectly now.
>>
>>7109526
vita can do more than those chink shit tho and it's cheaper with better screen ajd controls.
>>
>>7109534
Dude an un-modded Dreamcast with a burned CD of SNES games [those were the days] runs about as well as the Pita running those games for at least 5% of games, which is a lot, by your very own admission.
>>
>>7109542
your chink shit runs 95% of psx library and yet it's fine in your book.
>>
>>7109550
>PSX is now SNES
Shifting goalposts already I see.
>>
I run emulation through a shitty laptop into a tv in my living room, it's great for running 2-player games with the bros or bringing home some poor gal and dominating her in Mario Kart.
>>
>>7109558
What's your go-to emulator?
>>
>>7109557
not at all, this is the same argument
>snes is shit on vita, not on chink shit
well psx is shit on chink not on vita
and once again the vita can emulate more systems with a better screen controls and it's cheaper.
>>
>>7109558
I have my specific go-to's for each system but I finally took the Retroarch pill a few days ago, the interface took awhile to get used to and it's more unstable the more content that you directly import into the RA tray menu BUT being able to switch emulator cores and games without even having to alt+tab is fucking AWESOME. As long as you know that there's console-specific settings in the quick-menus you'll be good, I dismissed this program for a long time and I regret never using it until now.

PS it supports netplay, the retroachievements website so you get community-approved achievements, and you can download cover art for games. It's not perfect though - Dolphin is a fucking pain in the ass to use with RetroArch for some ungodly reason.
>>
>>7109569
>and once again the Switch can emulate more systems with a better screen controls and it's cheaper after you consider the time it takes to nurse an aging Vita back to life
True, true.
>>
>>7109534
>vita can do more
it literally can't. modern chink portables can run n64, dc, ds and psp. psx, snes and gba aren't even benchmarks anymore, they just work.
>and it's cheaper
vita skyrocketed in price. you can't argue build quality and controls, but chink shit has improved a lot in those regards.

not easily hackable nor in the same range of price but yeah the switch is surely the future if they lanage to hack newer models.
>>7109596
it does tho. not only you can play psp and vita games, but you can use moonlight to play modern pc games through streaming, not even pointing out all games ported on the system or different homebrews.
why did the vita skyrocketed in price, mostly because this is a system people want, becaue it's great.

That does save a lot of time.

Yeah, I won't lie and say Retroarch is shitty, but I still avoid it unless I am forced to use it because the other emulators failed. So for me, use two versions of Retro one on PC the other on the Wii and for both I run precious few games, but yes they run perfectly.
>>
>>7109596
>chink portables can run n64, dc, ds and psp.
lmao, and yet the vita can't into snes because of a bunch of games, that's ridiculous at this point
>>
>>7109614
>the switch is surely the future if they lanage to hack newer models.
You know full well that they will successfully make hacks for all versions soon enough. I remember when "THE EXPERTS" were telling everyone that Raiden II's encryption would never, ever be broken, so stop asking. Innocent times, maybe.
>>
>>7109621
yeah but for now that's not the case, how many years mariko systems were launched now and still no hack. i have a switch, it's eating the dust.
>>
Lately I've been enjoying using my Wii to play emulated games. I have a few hacked Wiis and it plays basically everything I need it to. I've used my Wii U for DS emulation which is cool but I prefer the Wii for everything else.
>>
>>7109631
>i have a switch, it's eating the dust.
Why? There's asstons of good games for it, especially retro. I buy games from their eshop and it's pretty great and they effectively give rebates for most games that you can save for tax or more games.
I beat the Japanese version of Haunted Castle using the Switch's native baby controls and that's saying a lot for those controls really.
>>
>>7109615
I don't blame anybody for not wanting to deal with the default RA interface and sticking to standalone emulators. The time spent looking for/researching the most accurate RetroArch cores (ESPECIALLY just finding that fucking Dolphin one that they took off the application's core database so it's a giant fuckaround) is ridiculous compared to simply looking up the most accurate emulator for the console you want to play and downloading/running it in a few minutes at most. The QoL features hidden in the dumb menus are what keeps me coming back to RA, but I understand now why people avoid it.
>>
>>7109614
chink portables can stream too. on top of emulating n64, dc, ds and psp itself. can the vita emulate those systems? the only thing you're missing are vita games, so virtually nothing.
>why did the vita skyrocketed in price, mostly because this is a system people want
yeah but it goes directly against your point. it's not cheap and definitely not cheaper than chink devices.
>>
>>7109647
because i have a good pc so until the switch is hacked it's useless for me.
>>7109656
no it cannot emulate n64 dc nor psp greatly, it's a poc at this point, so when you point out that the vita cannot do snes because of a bunch of games i'm laughing out tloud at your delusion, don't know if youre a troll or chink customer but that's pathetic.
you can find second hand vita at 80 bucks, it is cheap.
>>
>>7109661
>no it cannot emulate n64 dc nor psp greatly
chink devices can. so it literally proves what you just said wrong, that the vita can do more.
>so when you point out that the vita cannot do snes because of a bunch of games
it literally cannot run some games, what are you even talking about.
>you can find second hand vita at 80 bucks
most places have them listed for around 150. and the RP2 costs 80 bucks.
>>
>>7109661
>so until the switch is hacked it's useless to me.
It is, but I hear you, my PC is decent too.
I lack a Nintendo subscription so there may be some games that I want them to sell that they're essentially just renting anymore, but I can't wait to get comfy with every version of Military Madness and Splatterhouse, but so far nothing (as far as I can see) , then Nintendo worries over emulation.

Nintendo, if you're here in some capacity reading, please understand: I've paid you many times over for your games; my Switch is my property, but since I get online, I accept that you will prevent me from modifying MY Switch so that I can adhere to YOUR online rules; however I reserve the RIGHT to modify MY Switch at any time to add any number of fully LEGAL emulators and software.
Emulation is not going away and has given you a reason to sell some of your old forgotten ROMs.
>>
vita bro and RP2 mate, we already understand that you're defending your purchases choices.
>>

>it literally cannot run some games
a bunch of games out of 1000+ library
>most places have them listed for around 150
you aren't searching well then, the rp2 literally cannot emulate the full library of the systems you mentioned at fullspeed tho, so as much as you say the vita can't into snes it's the same for your chink shit, it cannot emulate n64 nor psp nor dc and even not psx.

I use my razor phone 2 w/jungle cat controller.
Works good for most things lags a bit with PSP games
>>
>>7109707
>which one lol
RP2, RG351, upcoming RG352 is probably going to blow both of them out the water though.
>a bunch of games out of 1000+ library
which is still ridiculous considering any chink device can run all of those 1000+ titles perfectly.
>the rp2 literally cannot emulate the full library of the systems you mentioned at fullspeed tho, so as much as you say the vita can't into snes it's the same for your chink shit
you really don't see the difference between not being able to emulate n64 at full speed and struggling with the fucking snes? nah, it's far from the "same thing".
it still proves you wrong though, seeing as how the RP2 is capable of emulating all of those systems at playable framerates. even though yes, it's not perfect, it's still far better than what the vita can do.
>>
>>7109714
You can safely take out PSP and og3DS. The rest of the handhelds perform mostly the same assuming you are asking about emulation.
>>
>>7109724
Are the analog controls precise? They look beefier than Nintendo's infant nubs.
>>
>>7109728
>RP2, RG351, upcoming RG352 is probably going to blow both of them out the water though.
rp2 cannot run dc nor psp at fullspeed stop lying
>which is still ridiculous considering any chink device can run all of those 1000+ titles perfectly.
the vita can run gow at full speed and many other psp titles which is ridiculous considering the vita is what 7 or 8 years old and your chink shit are fairly new, same argiment, your devices can't into those platforms.
>struggling with the fucking snes
once again, there is a bunch of few games that don't run at fullspeed, that's not an argument to pretend it literally cannot emulate the system quite well in most of the cases.
>at playable framerates
the snes games struggling with the vita fall into the playable framerate if you're fine playing gow at 15 fps.
>>
>>7109732
A little touchy not bad if you don't have a razor phone 2 though get the kishi it's cheaper and better
>>
>>7109754
Thank you, the advice is appreciated.

Hello everyone, I recently got interested by emulation after hearing about Shadow Hearts, and a bit after that I've heard about Koudelka, playing it right now. I downloaded both emulators for PS1 and PS2, but a bit before that I was considering getting a PS Vita since Christmas is getting closer and I had heard it was pretty good for emulation. I was also considering a Retroid Pocket 2, but I'm getting mixed reviews, some people say it's a great handheld device, powerful and well-made, other says it's bad, unfinished and I should wait more. What do you guys recommend?

Also related question, I have my PC and TV on opposite ends of the room, and I'd like to play on my TV, since I have a PS3 controller, but emulating from my PC. What should I do? I was planning on getting an extra long HDMI cable to connect them, but I have no idea how to manage Bluetooth connection.
>>
>>7109752
you're so retarded you don't realize your argument also fits the RP2/RG351. but let's compare them anyway:
>RP2/RG351: struggles with PSP but can run several titles at playable framerates, same with N64, DC and DS, everything else runs flawlessly
>vita: struggles with SNES but can run several titles at playable framerates, can't emulate N64, DC or DS at all, has native PSP support
it's also important to note that there's no shame in not being able to run systems like the N64, DC, DS or PSP at full speed, even phones struggle with Chains of Olympus. it is however a joke that a device as able as the vita can't even do SNES properly.

regardless, this is all moot. your original post was:
>vita can do more than those chink shit tho
it literally can't. even if you ignore the PSP, can it emulate N64, DS or DC? no? then 3 > 0
>and it's cheaper
I can only find them for around 150. you said you can grab an used one for 80, which is what a RP2 costs. so at the very least no, it's not cheaper. best case scenario they're the same price.
>>
PSP 3000 is a great buddy for me since 2013 and OLD 3DS is just great for playing NDS and GBA games.
>>
Snes Mini
>>
Anybody using an Xbox Series S in Dev mode for retroarch? I think series x or Xbox one might work as well but that sounds pretty neat
>>
>>7110436
Oh and I use a hacked 3DS for DS/GBA/3DS games, PS Classic for PS1/snes, Wii for GC games, and PC for everything else. The ps1 startup sound is comfy af, 3ds offers the genuine handheld feel with better tech than an actual GBC or whatever, and PC is easy enough for everything else.

I'm working on modding my PS2 slims for emulation and playing ISOs though. PS Classic, snes classic, and PC are convenient, but you can't beat playing on a CRT. Though I am ordering an HDMI to RCA converter. Even if it's not great for gaming I'm gonna just play old cartoons on my CRT through it
>>
>>7105176
No, I'm about as casual as it gets and I have abandoned trying to play snes on vita.
>>
>>7103271
Wii hooked up to a 14" trashpicked CRT via composite.
>>
Might as well try here
I'm emulating some ps2 rpgs and I'm having very noticeable slowdowns whenever there's some 3D particles on screen, is there a setting on the video plugin that helps with that ? Don't care if it looks worse just want to conserve framerate
>>
>>7111360
you mean on your phone? or just generally? because that's what /emugen/ over at /vg/ is for.
