Thank God, please let this be a fresh start
>>7097257Can you imagine people who don't pistol start threads?
Also this weekend will be RTCW, since the game was released this day as HL and is 20 years old, with Id not even referencing the game or paying a good homage for it
>>7097257No. Take your punishment. It's time for the replay.
When ROTT was released to the Doom-crazed public, it got fairly good reviews: "Rise of the Triad is sure to have every Doom freak in the world lining up just to drool over it." Said one magazine. "I've played ROTT and it's good. REEEEEEEEEEEEALLY good! Honestly, I can't think of any reason why every DOOM nut in the country won't flock to this game when it's released. It's beautiful, fast and challenging. Rise of the Triad is truly an awesome game." Computer Gaming World raved. Other magazines gave it similar reviews, so-so reviews or just dismissed it as another clone.
>>7097279Alien Vendetta, huh?
>>7097239Way too early to make a new thread, but whatever.
>>7097279 Misri Halek deserved better then this
>>7097186 Hey, it could be fucking based. Doom and Doom II RPG are as is Wolfenstein RPG. I could see something with the lore of Blood working well with NPCs and simple quests like what is found in the iD RPGs. Duke too could be a campy tongue-in-cheek affair with lots of 4th wall breaking inside jokes for retro shooter fans. It would work well.
>>7097279Trying to post genuine posts in derailed generals is the true punishment I fear.>>7097286This is not a bad thing.>>7097282How is AV solo? I've only every played it hammered on Doomseeker coop, I don't remember a thing.
>>7097293Are you kidding DukeRPG or BloodRPG would be fucking rad
>>7097295archvile party house with good music and detailed maps
>>7097310Yeah it would be, that's what I meant. It would be awesome. Carmack wrote the engine for the id RPGs so I don't see why he wouldn't have released the source code. Current id probably wouldn't but we can hope, it would be awesome just to do a TC with replacement assets and story to make it Duke or Blood or even Shadow Warrior
>>7097310I think he was saying that all these ideas are rad. Either way, if somebody made Duke and Blood base mods for Doom RPG and they're good enough there could potentially be /VR/ community mapping based around it. That would be absolutely rad.>>7097320Archvile party house? You've piqued my interest.
woah thats a lot of deleted posts

>>7097267Raven made that and the 2009 Wolfenstein. I recently played the 2009 one, which is by far the most forgotten game in the series, and its not too bad. Kind of a semi-open world city where you go on different missions and stuff. It's cool.
>>7097349RTCW is still sold on steam and GoGhttps://store.steampowered.com/app/9010/Return_to_Castle_Wolfenstein/https://www.gog.com/game/return_to_castle_wolfensteinand it even got a community remaster recently, that it was even news here.
>>7097359You answered the question I was typing out, bless your heart, Anon. I haven't played RtCW since around the time it came out, it'll be great to give it a go again.
>>7097359Also the only game who has issues is Wolf2009, and you can blame Fucking Activision for it, though this may not be a problem soon once the deal is done inbetween Zenimax and MS, and MS goes on against Activision for the Mechwarrior 2 and other stuff that kotick is hiding at their archives claiming that they dont have time to find.

>>7097369I bought RTCW on PC at launch for $59.99. I was about 13 or 14 and had been saving my money, for what I wasn't sure. I didn't even know it was coming out but I went to a Wal-Mart with my cousins and saw it. My older cousin called me a retard for spending my money on it, he hated FPS and was into shit like Starcraft and Diablo II, but goddamn if I didn't get countless of enjoyment out of it. Great game.
>>7097385If I recall correctly it didn't require the disc to be inserted to play it once installed, so I remember just letting all my friends borrow and install it
>>7097376and yet is still recent, because valve lifted their finger only to promote HL Alyx, but never did nothing towards HL over the years.the SOURCE port is still broke, and the GoldSRC og game has issues with Steam that only XASH fixes it.

>>7097385I didn't play it as much as other shooters that came out at the time (I was 7 and preferred Medal of Honor AA) but I remember my Dad had one Hell of a fun time with it. Now that I'm older it's time to check it out properly and get it running on my dad's pc for him too - I'm actually super excited now. Thanks for sharing your memories, dude. Also, are you in the States? Leaf here, I miss the days when a brand-new AAA PC game was around $40 CAD + taxes. New games here nowadays are $80 and the new-gen shit is now around $90. I know to take inflation into account, but spending close to $100 on a single game nowadays is fucking depressing and I even have a passable job here.
>>7097414So its what, actually the 22nd anniversary then? That Twitter dude in OP is retarded.

>>7097447Why does it anger you? Its comically shitty and obscure. Are you a slav who is ashamed?
>>7097452Aw I bet you're right. That fucking sucks. Carmack wrote the engine but the actual assets/making a game around it was Fountainhead I believe. Sucks.
>>7097437That sound design is pretty bad, weapons seem to be just reskins of Douk 3D weapons just way uglier, and the key icon is fucked on the HUD, though I assume that's because he's playing EDuke which is breaking shit.Fighting skeletons is good though.
>>7097239it's DR. Freeman
>>7097431Either way, that is still a Hell of a lot of money to save as a young teen in 2001. Kudos to you, dude. I got really lucky in that my dad introduced my older brother and I to gaming, the only reason I played most of the stuff we had as a kid was because dad worked endless overtime so our family could live. He's retiring pretty soon actually, it'll be good to see him relax and go back to some his old hobbies after years of slaving away.
>>7097454Half-Life is gay bro, Gordon Freeman is the worst FPS protag and gets shit all over by the likes of Doomguy, Ranger, Duke, Caleb, Lo Wang etc
>>7097452Wasn't there a Doom mod that recreated Doom RPG in the Doom engine? That could be modded into other ones like Duke or Blood
>>7097486it's still really unfinished so far, i'd give it maybe a couple more years or so

>>7097464Thats awesome, my dad was a total boomer who had never played anything but Donkey Kong and had no interest in video games. I was an only child too so it was sort of just me and a couple friends and then later other people on the internet once we got it in like 1997 that I could share the hobby with
>>7097493Naw they're fine. A few worked on BTSX, and all the ones I know are perfectly good people. I know a few that make pretty nice music too.
What's your favorite "special" weapon in an FPS, weapons that are scarce/ammo is rare for like the BFG, etc.Mine is the Excalibat.
Speaking of the potential to mod DOOM RPG into other famous FPS rpgs, why aren't there any TCs or major mods for Strife? I assume it could be modded in the way described by putting in assets and changing dialogue/missions to be Duke or Blood themed. Would be very neat I think.
>>7097595Modding strife is an absolute pain in the ass, and a lot of things work differently from doom/hexen/etc. Even stuff like the conversation ID system can be wonky af, especially compared to just blanket "replaces" designations. Its not insurmountable or anything, most modders just can't be bothered.
>>7097239I have never really delved into user made content for Half-Life. Anything you guys would recommend?
>>7097607Sven co-op is always good.
>>7097490Most children don't have rich parents or paperroutes and get a very small allowance, I got paid an allowance half my age once every two weeks until I finally grew old enough to get a job. It taught me the true value of money, something you clearly never learned.>>7097508My mom was the exact same way, she doesn't give a shit about most games but hot DAMN she blew DKC and Commander Keen apart back in the day. That being said too, about twice a year we'd rent an N64 for a weekend and the whole family would sit and watch/play together. It was good times, even if I was so young that my brother and sister btfo'd me on Goldeneye. My only memory of that game until I played it again years later was the music from the death screen hahahaha

>>7097605Damn, that sucks. I would love a Blood FPS/RPG hybrid even just a turn based one like Doom RPG. Heretic/Hexen would work really well in format as well. A java Duke Nukem themed one like Doom RPG would be a hell of a lot better than the complete dogshit ones Duke actually got
Unattended meatballs don't waste their time. If only the BFG was somewhere around
>>7097625By the way, if anyone reading this ever decides to give Sweet Half-Life a roll, make a manual save when you reach the map shl10 (or maybe it's sh10, don't remember). It's not a spoiler to say that from the tenth map, the game diverges HEAVILY in two different routes depending on your actions in this map.
>>7097637What wad and weapon set?
>>7097595there is Strife Overhaul but the modder accidently made the entire thing break after a mandatory mission, making it impossible to complete the game
>>7097651Wow what the fuck lol
>>7097625>Half-QuakeI never understood the naming of that mod. Why is it named after Quake if it has nothing to do with it? Unless I'm missing something, but there doesn't seem to be a reference to Quake anywhere.
Do you guys think DOOM would have been better or worse if Tom Hall's DOOM Bible, which he went on to adapt parts of for ROTT, would have been used? What about if it had actually been the one continuous world as Tom had originally thought it would be when writing said Bible? Say what you will about Hall but he has creative skill, the Commander Keen series was a huge hit and it was his brainchild on top of Carmack's engine.
>>7097673I don't quite remember. And then Amen has far less to do with the Quake name. Very peculiar trilogy, but one I love.
>>7097680I wouldn't mind seeing a version of Doom if Tom Hall's ideas actually stuck, but I'm fine with the game we have.

>>7097705I posted Liquidator and I like Half-Life, not the same guys
Doom is really fun. I replayed Playstation doom for the first time in many years and had a blast. I quit a ways into the Doom 2 levels though. I don't know what it is, but I find Doom 2 really boring.
>>7097742Does PSX Doom have the same levels as vanilla Doom/Doom 2 or are they different altogether? I've never played it.
>>7097625Thank you, anon. I'll check out some of these and try one tommorow.
>>7097742I heard that Doom PSX has an all new soundtrack made by the guy who did the music for Doom 64 and that it is similarly creepy sounding. Is the rest of the game the same otherwise or is anything else different enough to warrant a playthough?
>>7097754It is a remix of both games. It has a combination of the consolized Jaguar levels from Doom 1 with a large selection of Doom 2 levels (which are not consolized and thus do have performance issues unlike the Doom 1 levels). The 2 games are combined in one campaign and the Cyber Demon is moved near the end with the Spider Mastermind being the final boss of the game.
>>7097761Where the fuck did they come up with Doomguy wearing fucking blue jeans and a denim jacket?
>>7097771Same place the German soldiers in Wolfenstein 3d picked up their M16s.
>>7097761He also did for Quake 2 for N64also that is something that i would like to see redone with Q2PSX for Q2, same goes for Q1 N64
>>7097761It is a cool way to experience Doom. If you've played it, its nothing new, but its a cool remix of the games with a cool new soundtrack. I know the original is a classic, but honestly I think the quality is heavily frontloaded and once you get past the first few levels where the classic soundtrack shines, I actually prefer new ambient soundtrack. Runs great for a 90s fps, but obviously modern source ports blow it away in performance. Not sure if it works with any sourceports. To be honest, I've never run Doom with one, only Hexen (which was awesome at high resolution/framerate).
And then there is this thing with skybox, but no such issue with software renderer. Haven't checked other source ports but Graf's prboom

>>7097779Kek. That cover always cracked me up and annoys me at the same time. I have the covers of a shit load of retro fps blown up and printed out on my wall and I used the second cover from left and Spear of Destiny cover, I really like both of those. The cover for the strategy guide is also good in a cheesy 90s cover art kinda way even though the gun that soldier has is definitely not a Luger
>>7097783>He also did for Quake 2 for N64But Sonic Mayhem's soundtrack is literally the best of any iD game besides Doom. I would rather have Quad Machine and Descent Into Cerberon than the creepy weird shit like 64

>>7097607They Hunger is a classic.
>>7097281ROTT wasn't very successful in sales (especially compared to Doom), but since it was a good game that had many features that Doom didn't have (Even features Quake doesn't have...even some Unreal doesn't have) it developed a small, cult following. Most people ignored it (or didn't know it existed). Or they just dismissed it as a thing of the past after hearing about the 90 degree wall thing. Many critcs at the time gave the game good scores and liked it but it also got shit on in some reviews for its dated tech. A real shame honestly because it really is a good game and a totally unique take on FPS design. For better or worse, there really is no other shooter like it.

>>7097790Skies that are too tall are fucky somehow. I had to crop some skies I used just for that.
Gave Crispy DOOM a try recently and love it, perfect for people like me who want a mostly vanilla experience with a few modern touches like 60 fps and widescreen. What are some of the best WADs that can work with it i.e. limit removing but no Z/GZDOOM fuckery. I've been having alot of fun with Back to Saturn X as well as Alien Vendetta and want more.

I know it's probably going to be something lame and boring and I really shouldn't care at all but I really want to see Doom win GOTY at the VGAs this year. It's the only thing that deserves it.
>>7098279I want btsx e3 to be released this year. :(
>>7098035It's the evolutionary step between the annoying narrative-obsessed shooter of the oughts and early 10s and the pure gameplay retro shooter of the 90s. It's probably my favorite style of shooter, the only thing that I might change about it is a few less sluggish setpieces that end up annoying on the replay. It hurts liking both uninterrupted smooth gameplay and immersive storytelling. You really do have to choose between one or the other 90% of the time.

I finally realized something about Ion Fury. As much as I love the gameplay, the aesthetics, and Shelly's really hot with a great voice, they didn't lean far enough AT ALL into Shelly's role as a police officer in this hellhole future D.C. Shelly's lines are more indicative of a woman being badass than a woman of the law. Instead of>Get that fucking jalopy out of here! Why couldn't it be something like>Article 62, paragraph C, VTOL operating illegally. But by the same token, I think it would have been career suicide for everyone involved considering the times we live in to have a video game where you play as a cop gleefully engaging in police brutality.tl;dr Ion Fury is 20 years too late to the party to be the game it oughta be but man that shotgun tickles my balls and so does Shelly.

>>7098721>>7098725Goddamn I love Shadow Warrior.
>>7098725This one is by Julie Bell, it was considered for the cover of Shadow Warrior at some point during its VERY long development history (its earliest prototype dates to 1992, as a very crude and simple demo of a corridor shooter). If you've ever looked at its development content, it's kind of crazy how much it changed at different times, the reboot from 2013 draws a bunch of ideas from there, like the emphasis on magical spells, or the magazine fed crossbow with the grenade darts.Compare to the 1997 game, which left out a lot of the spellcasting, Lo Wang instead using mostly modern weapons and sci-fi gadgets.Anyway, I like it a lot, it has color, and shows a cool muscled ninja dude in mortal combat with a big bad snake monster.
>>7097281Noone cares about the contemporary reviews. ROTT just isn't a fun game. Fuck Civvie 11's cancerous opinions.
>>7098725Older artwork sure does hit different.
>>7098761OH MY DINGHY HANGING OUT!
>>7098758Yeah, I love the aesthetic it has. I really hope Shadow Warrior 3 will be closer to the 1997 and 2013 games, because Shadow Warrior 2 made me fucking miserable.

Are the MP servers of Marathon alive nowadays or are they extinct? I'd host a /vr/ deathmatch server if I knew how to.
>>7098836Marathon has a small sometimes dedicated multiplayer base. It's very easy to set up a server with AlephOne; it's right there in the main menu. The problem is Marahton's DM is dogshit compared to Doom's. Whoever gets the dual shotguns wins.
>>7098840That's true. I'd love to have an MP focused TC dedicated in making the weapons more balanced. I'd do it if they could finally make a modern day working Forge, that shit was great and even more user friendly than Doom map editors.
>>7097742Play the PC version.>>7097754First release of PSX Doom is Doom and Doom 2 packed together as two campaigns.Final Doom for the PSX is a mix of levels picked from TNT Evilution, The Plutonia Experiment, and The Master Levels. Since some of TNT's levels are too intense for the PSX, and most of Plutonia's levels are, a bunch of TNT's levels are modified, and most of Plutonia's levels are removed completely, mostly replaced with Master Levels.I think that 90% of the Master Levels are kinda bad, so I don't love this decision. TNT also had a lot of really good and atmospheric music originally, which is replaced with the same old Hodges ambient themes, which I'm not crazy about either.>>7097761Yeah, music and sound design by Aubrey Hodges, so it's the same set of stuff there. I don't exactly love his music, it's ok at times for D64, but I think overall it's kind of boring. The sound design is excellent in some ways, but falters in others. In my opinion anyway. For content, a bunch of Doom 1 levels are modified to make them perform better on the PSX, using existing "Console Doom" sets, this wasn't really done as much with Doom 2, so on those levels performance isn't always so great. The way the Arch-Vile works makes him unsuitable for the PSX, and he has a lot of frames originally, the decision by Williams was to plain axe him completely, since they felt they couldn't do him justice. Replacing his actor is a meathook prop, occasionally he's replaced with a Revenant in the levels. On UV, you can occasionally find a Doom 2 monster in a Doom 1 secret area. Icon Of Sin is completely absent due to pic related, instead there's two Spiderminds.PSX Doom does overall add some cool stuff like colored sector lighting, the occasional use of an animated burning sky, as well as reverb for sound effects. There's a couple of new levels as well. The Final Doom release supports the use of the PSX mouse peripheral.Overall, it's pretty cool, but D64 is much cooler.
>>7098832Blow it out your ass.
>>7097832There's a Playstation Doom TC for GzDoom, yes (to allow for the colored sector stuff, sound reverb, etc). There's a version for imitating PSX monster and weapon behavior (and overall this gets it pretty damn close, though not perfect), and a version without, if you want to play the levels with gameplay mods. This is a PSX Doom TC which is made from a modified fork of GzDoom to make it as close as possible:https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/94139-update-v2-psxdoom-psxfinaldoom-doom64-on-gzdoom-gec-master-edition-dec-17-2018/Here's Consolation Prize, which is basically the "vaccinated" version of the PSX Doom level sets, complete with Final Doom level set:https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=55298I personally find that Immoral Conduct Special Edition (which you can grab a GzDoom conversion of here: https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=48036 ) has an aesthetic that somehow fits nicely with the slightly gritty aesthetic of the Playstation levels, with their darker appearance, grainy textures, and colored lighting.
>>7098865Theres doom 2 monsters everywhere actually, probably my favorite part of ps1 doom.
>>7098832I liked Duke Burger and Going Postal, myself.
>>7098832>>7099021I think the last three levels of E4 come together as a really cool series of challenge gauntlets.
ITT: Post your controversial opinionsI think Final Doomer is a more interesting way to play Doom since it revamps the pistol in such a way that pistol starts aren't about dodging enemies and obstacles until you find a shotgun, but about enjoying the act of killing demons.

>>7098762Nah, fuck you.
>>7098246If you haven't played Scythe yet, I'd recommend that the strongest. It starts off very easy and ends very hard so it has the full spectrum of difficulty and will engage you no matter what. Also the low difficulty of the first episode (first ten maps) means you can try to beat them in one run without dying, and if that's too easy, you can do it with fast monsters on.And as for other maps: (vanilla) Base Ganymede, Doom Zero, Suspended in Dusk, No End in Sight, (limit-removing) any of the DBP's (Doomer Boards Projects), there's like 30 of them, try DBP20 or DBP01 (this one doesn't have difficulty settings so you'll have to change it to skill 1 if you want to make it easier), Double Impact, A.L.T., Sacrament, Deathless, Deus Vult, End Point, JPCP, Nerve.wad, Scythe 2, Scythe X, Sigil, Syringe, Struggle: Antaresian Legacy, Whitemare
>>7099245Preacher.wad is by the same author. It's not cozy at all, it's extremely chaotic, but I thought I'd recommend it because it's my favorite PWAD. The way the levels are designed is, the ammo is spread thinly across the level so you have to keep moving to get more ammo or you run out, but this constant progression keeps alerting new monsters.

Because Sony has to ruin everything in gaming since 1994.And eat a Dick alf, Half life is great, Quake series with its ups and downs is great, and without those to revitalize the industry, the genre would had died.>>7100003Marathon is underrated as fuck and is still impressive til this day.

>>7099314The inconsistency of difficulty is actually what I hate most about Scythe 1. The small size to the maps helps with blasting through them at least, but the early maps are pathetically easy while the last maps get stupid fucking difficult by comparison. Difficulty scaling is indeed a good thing, but going from babby's first WAD to "I hope you're savescumming and not pistol starting" makes for really shitty progression. The later levels in Scythe 2 can also be pretty bullshit, but nowhere near as much of a difference from the earlier levels. Its a much more acceptable shift in difficulty.

Speaking of RoTT, if anyone is interested I stumbled on this MASSIVE Rise of the Triad 20th Anniversary article written by Joe Siegler, one of the people who worked on the game:https://joesiegler.blog/2014/12/happy-20th-rise-of-the-triad/Lots of behind the scenes stuff and anecdotes about its development. Good stuff and very interesting. Also has a pic of the dev team as the crew from Star Trek: TNG.
>>7100451All this time I thought Duke was pictured holding the RPG, but I guess you're right, it's something else. Almost like a silvery shotgun, but his is black of course.
>>7101070There is also this gun he is holding in the imtermission screen. I don't know if that was supposed to be the same one he has on his player sprite or not.I assume the reason it was done like this is because they didn't have a way to swap out part of the sprite on the fly so they would've had to have a whole new character sprite for each weapon held, plus the rotations/animations etc.
I feel that Hell Knights should have had a head swap to compliment their palette swapWould have helped make them feel a little more different from the Barons
>>7101083I assume that's part of the reason Hell Knights in all future Doom games besides 64 look completely different while Barons still largely look the same.
>>7101081Yes, it's probably my biggest regret about Doom and Douk. The character sprite not reflecting the weapon held. But I mean, I get it. When you consider the era, this is a lot of data, and very little to gain by using unique sprites when most people are probably just playing the campaign solo.
>>7101083Baron and Hell Knights always felt like a pretty cheap swap. Some more variance in their attack would have been nice too.
>>7101097Well besides the saved time and storage space, they didnt even have access to enough memory to load that many unique sprites.
>>7101083Hell Knights are a good idea in general since they fill an obviously missing role in Doom 1>Imp—>HK—>Baron makes a lot of sense. Its just a shame all they did was cut his health in half and make him pale.
>>7101097Right and when playing Deathmatch they aren't exactly going to be taking time to admire the other players sprite before taking a rocket to the face. It is a shame though. I know some modern Doom mods add weapon specific sprites, I wonder if there are any similar ones for Duke, Blood or Shadow Warrior?Another thing could be to actually add the weapon that the sprites show. I always wished the pistol was changed to that rifle that Doomguy and the zombie grunts are holding. I think Brutal Doom adds it. It could behave exactly the same, I just want that gun to be in the game.
>>7101127It looks vaguely like a FAMAS. Especially with that... handle? on top.
>>7101097I just noticed that Duke's death sprites look really similar to Doomguy's. Don't forget to give credit to Ultimecia, anon.
Why didn’t Doom 2 even pretend to have some new boss fights? Icon of Sin is cool but it barely countsDoom 2 could have had a pair of Mancubi to act as early game bosses, then could have introduced them as standard enemies as the game progresses (like Doom did with the Barons). Revenants or even an Archvile could have worked too

>>7101286Its a good fun game
>>7101286Some other guy said something interesting in this thread or another, that Half-Life occupies this space of classic and contemporary because shooters since it have nary evolved. Some miscellaneous thoughts:>Ultimately HL1's singleplayer maps and modding scene aren't that interesting to me because HL1's enemy variety doesn't allow for interesting gameplay among tens of thousands of maps like Doom, or the couple thousand of Quake...>...but on the flipside, Half-Life's top singleplayer mods are as good as they're purported. HL1 doesn't have an Arcane Dimensions, but it has Afraid of Monsters, Paranoia, Heart Of Evil, Point Of View, etc.>Multiplayer mods were a golden age of golden ages. Fucking amazing years those were.
>>7100413>>7100451Probably because it would mean having to do an all new player sprite set for every single weapon in the game, which back in times where games were still distributed on floppies, wasn't a great alternative. In Quake's case, I assume they wouldn't want to go through the effort of having to pair up a special player character model of each gun with the player's model (and with how fast the multiplayer got, it made little difference). Perhaps it using vertex animation in place of skeletal animation made this more difficult? I only speculate.>>7100456Looking at his physical model, they look double barreled, but man they're so tiny, like little itty bitty .410 Bore or 28 Gauge shotguns, as opposed to the big bad shotguns you actually use in the game.>>7100552>YEAH!

>>7100762Don't expect them to be anything fantastic, and know they'll diverge from the canon, for what that matters. It's the most Doom in the first one, there's some in the second one, but clearly they run out of Doom to write about.

>>7101286I love the sound design. All the sounds have become completely iconic these days. People love making videos of those fun sounds. Not many games can claim the sound of whacking a crowbar against random objects as memorable.

>>7101365That's fair. I gotta say I sort of forget about Halo and CoD a lot. Through that lens, Halo definitely had influence, and I'd say Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's story mode has far more in common with Halo: Combat Evolved than Half-Life. I stand corrected.

>>7101127>>7101129It's basically a generic looking modern (at the time) military weapon. Slax (who passed away recently), once made a sprite which looks a fair bit like it could be the gun held by the player/zombie sprite.
>>7101537Oh dear christ not this fucking nightmare
>>7100445Lydia.If I ever fucking do anything with the damn mod aside from retexture vanilla Doom.
>>7101543He based its appearance on this gun (Algimec, an obscure 9mm carbine which flopped commercially after failing to get any interest by Italian police), probably because it had cool retro futuristic looks which *sort of* line up with the generic rifle in Doom.Think of it a bit like Aliens, where the guns used were actually just old WW2 era M1A1 Tommyguns shooting blanks (and with a bunch of stuff bolted on), but in canon of the movie they were futuristic pulse rifles. This here is a completely unremarkable pistol caliber carbine, but it has kind of a cool look to it, so you can put it in Doom and say that it's also some sort of sci-fi assault rifle.
>>7101370That's not an ass, THIS is an ass.
>>7101537HUD design is my passion
>>7101137They had less time to get it done than they did Doom 1 (though they had more experience and more mappers), and GT didn't want them wasting time making all new assets for monsters. All the new monsters in Doom 2 are either altered from existing sprites (chaingunner, meatball, knight, arachno), or made from monsters which weren't finished for the first game (fatso, boner, archie, icon), and thus had existing assets (and possibly even code) which were mostly done and they just needed to finish. I guess there's also the gnatzee, which they just ported over from Wolf3D.All things considered, the new monsters are excellent and they really round out and complete the bestiary of the classic Doom games. Icon Of Sin isn't really that amazing of a bossfight, but it's at least cool and novel to look at, and it beats just ending the game on a cyberdemon or spidermind. I guess what I'm saying is that it was the thought that mattered, and I appreciate that Sandy pushed for trying to have SOMETHING to end the game on.If it's any consolation, there's been some more novel takes on the big bastard in some megawads over the years, like with Plutonia 2, D2TWID, Bloodstain, and recently in 2048.

I searched each level high and low and found maybe a quarter of the secrets in the game, I can get behind well-hidden secrets but these became too obscure. That being said the gunplay absolutely kicks ass, the starting pistol and the crossbow are my absolute favourites>Mfw shooting fully-charged crossbow alts into an area full of enemies

>>7103632He's probably waiting for Atari to drop fucking dead first. How that hasn't happened yet is beyond me.
>>7103658The only reason why Atari is still afloat is because they're wearing the skin of a recognizable brand and most people don't know that the original Atari has been long dead.
We won HLbros.
