Looked into the trimui smart pro sd patch, which I think is basically the stuff you need to put onto an sd card to make it work with the system, and found that it has an Apps folder. So this is how people are putting programs onto the device, like the one guy that made a screen recorder.I wanted to ask, does anyone recognize this style of file layout? This is the one app included in the sd patch, seems to be a version of 2048, so I'm guessing apps need to be in this sort of format (or maybe this one is the exception). Launch.sh sets some parameters for file locations primarily, and config.json lists a bunch of metadata which I think is only important for the app entry in the apps menu.

Its cool that Hitman Blood Money is coming to Android and probably has controller support for chinkhelds like the Odin, but I really wonder why other devs don't do something similar for these older games. I know these handhelds are mainly used for emulation but it couldn't that hard could it? Does anybody have both the RG353V and R36S? The r36s' triggers are so fucking bsd they are almost unusable. If somebody can confirm the 353v is considerably better, i'll judt get one on black friday
>>10427958I own the 353V, never liked the shoulder buttons. Describe how it's bad, it's probably the same.
>>10427958Don't have an R36S but I do have a 353V, it's kind of a "thunky, hollow click" and reminds me of some tactile mechanical keyboard switches. I personally would suggest against the system in favor of a Retroid Pocket 2S if you want a system with sticks, though, the 353V is very uncomfortable for 3D games. Maybe a 405V if you must have it in vertical form-factor?
>>10427974>>10427979The ones on the r36s are extremely loud and clicky, and they feel super low quality, they get stuck in position after pressing them sometimes. If they are any better than that, it will be good enough for me.I was considering the rg405v as well, however it looks way too chunky, i would like something that i can fit into my pocket like the r36s.
me? waiting the m*yoo flop.
>>10427989Can't say I've had them stuck, but I secondanon's description. It's a loud, dry, shallow click like you're about to break something, feels annoying. Also agree with the 2S rec, the 353V is a pretty bad deal overall even if I like its design and plastic.
Other than the steam deck what would you guys say is the best handheld for emulating games? I want to buy one for a childhood friend of mine.
>>10428008Broken record but Miyoo Mini Plus if you're budget minded, Retroid Pocket 2S if you aren't so much.
>>10428008I'd say Odin 2, but it has some gnarly extra input lag frames for no apparent reason. Keep in mind chinkhelds are for tinkering since it's a gift, with Linux ones being much easier than Android ones, but basically unable to idle and significantly weaker on average.

Would it be easier to put myself in cryosleep until mid December when the odin 2 ships, or would it be easier to go back in time and get in on the indiegogo campaign? If I go back in time would I remember to order it or would I just forget that I time travelled in the first place? Or is it like the movie Primer where I would have to wait in the time travel box for an equal amount of time that I would want to go back? Because at that point it wouldn't make sense and I should just actually wait until December or try entering cryosleep
>>10427397jelly>Asked gogamegeek if they had the console in stock>they tell me no>ask them to alert me when they do>they say they will>website now says they are stocked, but have received no email yetIs this incompetence or are they trying to lure new buyers? >>10428219n64 works well, you might have to change emulators for some games but your best bet is m64plus fz. PS1 is no problem for the 2S and you can even play some with higher resolution or crt shaders. It plays dreamcast very well and a lot of saturn too. 4:3 is better for all of those systems anyways
>>10428219N64 can be a little tricky, you run it at native res (which is fine for 480p screen) and sometimes you need to build up cache but then it's smooth. Total overkill for PS1 which is good for Swan/Duckstation when you need features like instant seeking to improve load times in Digimon World 2, for example.

If you had to choose between RP2S and RG405V, which one would you choose and why?I'm leaning towards 405V because:>better PS2 / GC>better battery lifeOn the other hand the RP2S>more "pocketable">better joysticks

Either I use standalone Mupen64plus, and none of the FMV cutscenes play, and the controls also don’t work half of the time, or I use the RA core for MP64, and the cutscenes and gameplay mostly work, but the second I put the game to sleep, it softlocks on a black screen.
Technically not retro, but I've been tinkering with streaming on the Pocket 2S and I gotta say I'm shocked at how well it runs. input lag feels like <5ms. been playing the new Yakuza with it and the game looks nicer in 480p than Id anticipated (provided you turn on large fonts in settings)>>10428008I've been getting rg35xx systems as gifts for friends and they've all been happy. just remember to throw out the SD card and replace it with a shiny new GarlicOS installation, cause the stock OS is shit

>>10432058Every person has greasy hands, even if they wash them often. Your skin naturally excretes greasy substances. Good phones have oleophobic coating on their touchscreens to prevent them from getting too smudged, but such a thing is obviously missing from a $115 chinkheld. The solution is to just not use the touchscreen, but the fact I can't even set hotkeys for things like changing brightness is making this very difficult. I find Android extremely bothersome to use this way in general. This system is just not suited for gaming devices, period.

>both analogs above pad and buttons>if horizontal line, pad/buttons are inwardswhyi don't get why analogs end up setup diagonally either, all of sony's shit never did this and neither did nvidia(haha shield)/steami joked about a "diagslop" handheld, just makes me think you could be gripping similarly for the first listingfrom pad/button position you can move a thumb down for analog, an upper analog means you'll have to reach with your hand for it, also awkward to move a thumb towards the back of your hand for the second listingmain/outer should for quick thumb movement(pad/buttons), inwards needs less speed like analogs
>>10432207On a traditional style controller at least the upper controls are easier to reach, so it makes sense to put the most commonly used controls there, on modern games that's the left analog stick and the face buttons.

Why can't I bind the M1 button on the Pocket 2S to screenshots. Why do I have to use the slide-out menu on the right for that. I just wanted a screenshot button.

>>10435492Anything horizontal. Pocket 2S would be best for DC because analog triggers.

For "up to PS1", RK2023, Vita 2K*, or (probably, haven't actually held one) Trimui Smart Pro are even more comfortable. RP3+ is good for DC, a bit more comfortable than the 2S, and imo still pocketable, but admittedly it's on the cusp of portability, so it might not be pocketable for you. RGB30 is also pocketable for me, but again is on the cusp, and the other "up to PS1" handhelds I listed are more comfortable. The RGB30 is surprisingly comfortable though, all things considered.

>>10435817It has little to do with the OS, in fact I'd argue that Vita has an edge over Android here because its OS was designed for gaming first and not just for browsing Facebook. Vita is just too weak for any serious emulation. I tested it with a simple homebrew app like I said I would and its CPU really runs at maximum clock speed of 500MHz when overclocked. I tested various clock speeds and the performance scales with them as one would expect. With that CPU speed, it's already a miracle that Dreamcast games like Rayman 2 are playable with 30 FPS patches. It's also quite bizarre considering that even Android phones at the time already had clock speeds above 1GHz, but I guess Sony was aiming for sustained clocks while those phones could fall well below that 1GHz in heavy loads due to thermal throttling. Vita barely gets warm while gaming even with OC, the battery life is also amazing on my particular unit, I'd say it's on par with my Switch OLED.

>>10435808>And you're always full throttleActually the N64 stick is one of the only ones that allows for over seven different degrees of noticeable input degree, even though Super Mario 64 only uses five or so in total. The best example I can think of is Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon which uses the N64 analog stick to its full capacity (which is a shame because it's more of a Zelda-lite, so having that degree of control as opposed to a 3D platformer simply wasn't necessary).Meanwhile I tried to play Infamous 2 earlier this year for my first time and Cole literally just instantly bolts at one set speed to full speed in one of eight fucking directions WITH AN OFFICIAL PS3 CONTROLLER, as a jarring comparison. So what the fuck are you talking about N64 analog sticks being, "always full throttle"? The sticks ARE ass, they wear away into dust and become loose after a hundred hours of basic use, but when new they've allowed considerable more control than any other analog stick in "official" gaming history. And it doesn't come down to how developers design their games (except my Infamous 2 example, that was totally their decision to make Cole go from 0 to 60 the moment you try to push in any direction), I haven't seen any analog stick that allows you to calibrate it that doesn't just magically try to force align itself into one of four positions (centered, 40%, 70%, then 100% at the edge).
>>10435905>AnberGODS! What the fuck they did they do to piss off the overlord kid?We literally JUST discussed this last thread or two. >>10436718>onion>garlic>tomatowhat the fuck is wrong with those devs
>>10436603all of those use rubber-over-membrane buttons as far as I know (maybe except analoue). those will always have worse input latency than microswitch-based ones if we start measuring time from when the button moves instead of when it bottoms out. part of the reason why vita is so great. but those values seem way too high in general. if we take them at face value, that's almost a second of delay on odin lite, which would make the game literally unplayable. I frankly think there was something was wrong with the way they measured. still, every odin model having worse input latency compared to RK3566-based handhelds and even moorechip technologies' own retroid pocket is extremely bad and people are right to point this out as an issue.
>>10436774i think values of 40 might as well be a frame, aka 2 for pocket etcthat does sound low but i'm no real expert on this shit, all i know is supposedly some old arcade hardware had up to 8, while some maybe half of that
>>10436571No one knows for sure. One poster on reddit thinks it can range from 65ms to 180ms, then there's videod like this say that claim Odin 1 has 139ms of delay on average.https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=CmSJ8sAV6Vw
>>104367911 frame (60 FPS) = 4 frames (240 FPS)if we go by their numbers then even analogue pocket has 20 frames of delay in 60 FPS games, which I think is just too high. that's a third of a second!I did my own tests and I only got around 4 frames (60 FPS) of delay on RP2S, but that was in ideal conditions. I used the D-pad (which uses microswitches) instead of buttons, measured time from the moment it bottomed out instead of the moment when it started moving and turned on runahead in the emulator.
>>10436687>repairYou can't just make red circles around parts of a photo and just magically expect everyone to know why you're doing it. What's wrong with them? The problem is not showing up in the photo, at all. Or is your problem just with how bad the R35S/R36S shoulder buttons are in general?
>>10432632The Powkiddy X39 has Q400 style usb ports on the bottom edge it is said can support kb+m.
>pkd insider teasing a revision of the rgb30 alreadyI thought another company was going to clone it first
>>10436719They keep using healthy foods I wish I liked but can't.
>>10436904Nigga just make 'em into a pasta or pizza sauce
>RG35XX Plus with GarlicOS 2.0Miyoo is fucking finished.
>>10436904Tomatoes I can understand but how do you not like onions and garlic? Especially onions
>>10436968I was born with glitched tastebuds please understand.
>>10436904>Not enjoy tomatoesI mean you don't really eat them raw, that fucking sucks, even as a slice on a hamburger, but tomatoes are merely an ingredient for so many, many fantastic foods. I can't imagine living without tomatoes, potatoes, or corn with how much they're used in everything I consume one way or another.
>>10436943ehhh maybe not, MM+ has the elder device advantage and will probably still have a better d-pad
>>10437019I like sauces, but I wish I could enjoy them in salads and sandwiches.
>>10437038Salads. Fucking. Suck. As omnivores, we typically don't eat leafs. We require meatier, girthier vegetables and fruits with pulp and volume to them. But tomatoes are just, honestly, smooshy and slimy. Humans will have a better time biting into raw tomato than they ever will chewing lettuce, but in sauce form is how most humans now consume them. Whether it be a properly seasoned paste or Heinz ketchup with a ton of corn cyrup and vinegar added in. Even diced tomatoes on tacos fucking suck and just sabotage the overall texture. Don't fret not enjoying raw tomato and learn new ways to sauce it up.
>>10437056square up nigga, miyoo has better conductive rubber for pads and buttons
>>10436845So what was going on was R1 and R2 were jamming. When I opened it up it actually resolved issues with R1. R2 I ended up adding a little bit of stock paper with a very tiny bit of sticky tack adhesive to keep it on the actual button that is on you board. Now all my shoulder buttons work fine.
>>10437056RG35XX has a trash d-pad lmfao.
>>10437035Don't reply to warfags from /v/. They don't own or play anything they just want to pick a brand and fight anonymously over it.
>>10437058>>10437067D-Pad will be fixed for RG35XX+ lol.
>>10437071as i well know, some small number of retards seethe there almost 24/7 about "chinkhelds" all being garbage no matter what; they seem to think they're talking about 500-in-1 famiclones with playstation style controllers and not a handheld>>10437073lol
>TH-THEY'LL FIX IT!
>>10436603the antipocket guy is on suicidewatch kek
How the fuck did they do it? Retroid Pocket 2S is actually really really comfortable in the hands. It's just a brick. Don't even have any grip problems, I got the "16-bit" SNES model and it's supposed to have a slicker surface than the transparent ones. Bought an "official grip" off the website along with the order and I've felt zero need to slap it onto the system.
not buying anything till they make the horizontal equivalent of a mm+ or rg35xx
>10437089You own nothing and are unhappy.
>>10437112So what, you just want something smaller with no sticks?
>>10437106>bricks aren't as uncomfortable as people make them out to be>the inherent comfort that comes from using a horizontal device >plastic is good quality and not cheap like some Powkiddy devicesI prefer using the grip still but it's not one of those devices that absolutely needs it to be comfortable either.
>>10437152>the inherent comfort that comes from using a horizontal device
>>10437152I'm pretty impressed too that it's not very awkward to reach down and use the sticks, since they're in the Playstation orientation I can just reach down and use my thumb-pads to use them and still maintain a pretty comfortable hand posture.
>>10437153my favourite image in this general. keep posting it. it makes you look like a retard everytime.
>>10437152Only horizontal handheld I've ever held and enjoyed was the SF-2000.I've loved features about horizontal handhelds in the past, like how good a specific handheld's d-pad is, but the overall ergonomics of holding them let alone playing on them feels like shit and those details could just as easily be on a vertical one.
>>10437142about the same size with no sticks, just horizontal
>>10437165It's literally just personal preference, there is absolutely no reason to be this upset over some memes and banter. You might possibly have borderline personality disorder or bipolarism.

>>10437638why does it matter? the previous thread lasted 15 hours after 500, probably 3 on page 10 during more active hoursseems more sensible when it's at page 10 for some time at least
I want this for my anbernic rg nano
>>10436113How terrifying>>10436062Pic related.
>>10437770Nice. Mine is at the chink airport apparently
>>10437771Great, the guy behind tomato os says black seraph received one unit, I wonder what that means.Apparently there are 4 "teams" working on this (minui/tomato/jelos/???). Pico8 was ported not too long ago. And there is one dev who says he is making experiments with garlic os, but won't support it because due to garlic being hardware dependent, so the performance is expected to be bad. Also the unit is using a "tina linux" os, and there is some room for improvement with custom firmwares.Tomato is the official frontend which is being developed by westerners (the people behind rghandhelds), but for now they seem to be busy adding new emulators and ports, and will make Bluetooth work in the future too. I wonder if they will add more interesting features eventually.
>>10437786The select/start from the left looks like the new plus unit.
>>10437785The official sd card "patch" from trimui, which has all the emulators on it, includes a pico-8 emulator out of the box.As far as CFW goes I'm mostly just looking forward to jelos
>>10437786>>10437790Heh well I guess you were joking after all.
I'm gonna keep it real with you, i need more
>>10436943miyoo still king for best back design on triggers with the mini plus (versus the mini), all these other companies making ugly retard sword hilts with bingbongwahoo swooping triggers just to cater to trogdolyte hands are hideous and make these things less pocketable
This would be sick for the miyoo
>>10434796The PAL versions for both ICO and SotC are better anyway.
