Using Pokemon as Bargaining chips is something I saw less and less over the years in the anime so it was a pleasant surprise to see Plumeria do just that. You might be one of the few people who, even if you gave it a 6/10, had positive comments throughout the entire readthrough. The major problem is attached to the fact that SM and USUM are merged into a single arc and isn't even given the dignity of a full 40+ chapters. They also had to keep working on BW2 and get prepared to start SwSh when USUM starts hitting its climax, so there was little time left.
As a result, shit hits the fan pacing-wise and many storybeats are mentioned throughout the 2nd half and are just rushed (like Lusamine's underwhelming presence in the story, or "Colress" giving the Beast Balls for the UBs, or how the UBs jobbing, or Ryuki existing solely to stall Gladion for no reason), which leaves much to be desired. Fortunately, SMUSUM hasn't been volumized yet, which means there's still a chance to get more chapters/pages to fix the pacing and tie up storybeats that the magazine release didn't accomplish.

I am rewatching the episode where Brock returned Vulpix back to Suzie, and even the line from Brock nailed it home that it doesn't feel like something he would own. It was basically with him for 141 episodes and most of time it was just there under Brock's ownership except for maybe one or two instances of using Flamethrower. The rest where it was only notable was with other trainers.

I disagree. A vulpix is a great pokemon for Brock to own. They're a needy pokemon that would work best in the hands of someone knowledgeable and considerate like Brock. Not to mention they and their evolution Ninetales are lady magnets- something Brock desperately needed.

I am aware of the lackluster focus on Galar in the anime, with only a handful of characters getting multiple episodes in focus and a shitload of Galarmons getting mostly dumped near the 2nd late half of Journeys.

Time to see how jarring and glaring the contrast actually is.

Unlikely. Japanese are serious about replacing voice actors. Which is why Iris is Champion in JN. They needed Unova representation, it just so happened there are two Champions in that region and her voice actor was willing to come back. Yea it's an asspull but more than likely even with remakes on his side, Iris will remain Champion. Strictly because "muh Japanese anime rules"
