Which is it?
Mammal, it’s a close relative of Kangaskhan
>>53855646It's a pocket monster
>>53855646Mammal
>>53855646its a monster
>cubIt's a mammal.
>>53855646Both. It's a synapsid.
>>53855646I never realized there was some debate about it, but I'm gonna say mammal. Yeah it has some vaguely reptilian features, but so does shit like Nidoqueen and that's clearly a mammal (has boobs).
i thought that it was a mammal my entire life but in detective pikachu they gave it scaly skin. So I guess a reptile?
>>53855957Detective Pikachu is retarded.
>>53855963agree, just going to assume someone up there approved the designs being franchise accurate, though not sure
>>53855967They outright stated they were approved. Its almost as if these are fictional monsters and not animals.
>>53855646Its a Kobold
im probably incredibly autistic cause stuff like cubone and noivern annoy the hell out of me cause there's no way of telling whether they are mammals or reptiles
>>53855646It’s a Reptimal.Or a Mammaptile.Which is it???
>>53856076noivern is simple, dragon and bat mix
>>53856740yeah and that's my issue, dragons are reptiles but it's unclear whether noivern is a bat that looks like a dragon or a dragon that looks like a batthe explanation that it's a "mix between the two" doesn't really satisfy me at all cause it doesn't really answer the question
>>53855857There's also debate if this is a frog or dinosaur
>>53856759it's a frog/toad, the localizers just didn't get the memo
>>53855646It has elements of both. The classic kaiju shape comes from the dragon/dinosaur/lizard tradition but has the concept developed they introduced new elements to it including mammallian features.
>>53856780that's like kangaskhan
>>53855778>Synapsids>Reptiles
>>53855646It's a Pokemon.
>>53855653>>53855665>>53855679>>53855857>>53855957>>53856076Mammals don't hatch from eggs so pokemon are not mammals. Unless all pokemon are platypuses, that is.
>>53857001eggs aren't canon, those are just a gameplay mechanic
Its based is what it is
>>53857019But on what?
>>53857022Pangolin.>Mammal>Scaly skin>Walks on two legs>Long snout
Pokemon really plays it fast and loose with taxonomy, some mons are literally plants or elements, the concept kind of breaks down. Your best bet is looking at egg groups. Marowak is in the monster egg group, which features avian, reptilian, and mammalian seeming Pokemon.TL;DR yes.
>>53857072That's sandslash you moron. It's japanese name it's literally Sandopan
>>53857120Yes, because Gen 1 would never have two distinct evolutionary lines based off of the same animal, would it?
>>53857141There's literally nothing pangolinesque about cubone. It's based on a skeleton crybaby kaiju from ultraman
>>53855857No Pokémon has boobs, there is no Pokémon that produces milk for their children including Miltank. There are also no mammals, every Pokémon lays eggs.
>>53857086egg groups are an incredibly retarded classification system and i wish they'd just scrap the breeding system entirely and just make it so only a male and female of the same species can breedalso scrap eggs, just have the babies appear in the daycare centre
>>53857162>egg groups are an incredibly retarded classification systemIt's the best thing we have in universe though, as I said, applying IRL taxonomy to Pokemon is dumb
>>53857164i mean a lot of pokemon are very obviously mammalian, reptillian, avian, amphibian or otherwiseif they just had that classification and then for non-animals they just had "supernatural", all would be fine
>>53857141>>53857159
>>53857001those are cradles not eggs
>>53857175How do you factor in shit like grass types though? The water mons and mineral ones have IRL analogues that you can explain a way a bit, but we scarcely have anything close to grass types
>>53857184well for the animal ones, just have them be in their animal class.for the purely plant ones, have them have their own "plant" class.
>>53857197You're only validating my point though, grass mons do not fit into IRL taxonomical structures
>>53857209doesn't matter, in pokemon world some plants walk and that's fine
>>53857214Anon, my point is that trying to pigeonhole Pokemon into IRL biological categories is nonsensical. You are not refuting my point, you are agreeing with me
>>53857175(me)okay, give me several mons and i will sort them into a "class"
>>53857220fictional monsters can still have worldbuilding around them, you know. every animal pokemon seems to be still in that class, the more wacky supernatural stuff can have it's own classes
>>53855646It's a reptile/kaiju. the thing is pretty much just a Charmander in a bone cosplay - how could there be any confusion as to what it is?
>>53855778This, just like Kangaskhan and the Nidos>>53856804They're effectively the halfway point, you know what he meant
It's weak to ice.
>>53856754It's flying/dragon, it's a bat that dragons
>>53857289
bump
>>53857001All mammals come from eggs, you troglodyte. The label "Mammal" refers to milk production.
>>53855646It lays eggs. It's a bird. All pokemon lay eggs. They're all birds.Except for bird pokemon, which aren't real.
>>53858428kekclassicklekssic
>>53857289it’s related to Kangaskhan
>>53861095NOT EGGS
>>53857161> every Pokémon lays eggs. They explicitly said otherwise anon.>>53857162Half the point of the breeding system is moving egg moves among different species. And the other point is to make copies of mons, so "male and female" has to include Ditto. Otherwise we're back to gen 1 with starters.
>>53861168That's just actual text in the game anon.
>>53861177i get the gameplay reasons, but it just messes with the worldbuilding way too much
>>53861231Not really, they've already covered their bases.
