Different stances. Depends on if you're battling a wild mon or trainer.

It looks more like it's glitched out to me because for for a split of a second it tries to go for the battle pose but then it reverts back

Yup. Animations are not properly tweened since they were built with the first keyframe being its battle pose.

Same thing happens with Oricorio. It'll do its animation, then go to its battle stance, then jolt to its idle stance.
