I remember buying 50 packs of Supreme Victos for like 2,50 € per pack back in 2016 or 2017. The seller clearly wasn't aware what they were holding onto and the cards were also 100% legit since they were in my local language and I obviously checked them. But back then I was also generally able to buy normal tins for 20€ on Amazon which is basically impossible nowadays, more like 70€+.

>>49287847

Not really. They would have some value if any were graded a 10, but 9s and 8s don't hold much value at all. Sometimes, a lower grade, like an 8, will devalue a card to a price-point that's lower than its ungraded counterpart.

I'd either break those out of their cases, or sell em all and put that money towards one of them graded 10. Let me know if you are looking to sell, I like to collect low grade cards ironically.

Coping? The only people coping are the ones who submit their 10s and get back 9s because the guy grading had a fight with his wife earlier.

My raw cards are more expensive than graded 8s due to the "gambler's premium" on them. Enjoy rolling the dice! Especially when it's $300 to grade right now.
>>
>>49289064
I prefer this since it keeps 9s cheap as fuck. I'll let reddit and tcc goggle over and drive up the prices of 10s while I buy up cheap 8s/9s and cheap mint raw.

>I prefer this since it keeps 9s cheap as fuck. I'll let reddit and tcc goggle over and drive up the prices of 10s while I buy up cheap 8s/9s and cheap mint raw.

This is stupid though. Getting a card graded is done to "verify" it's quality and increase its value. Why would you purposefully devalue your cards by getting an 8 or 9, when many times the quality difference between a 9 and a 10 is undetectable, yet the price difference is massive?

Just buy raw at that point, it makes no sense to purchase 9s when they're worth dirt.
>>
>>49289282

There is PLENTY of raw vintage to be bought that would easily grade 8, 9, or even 10. Not sure where you're looking for cards.
>>
>>49289364
Verify it's quality. Yes.
Increase its value. No.

The only value is what you assign to the numerical grade. Most of us who collected before /tcc/ was even a thing could care less about value and condition is king. PSA 10 is generally a better card than a 9. A 9 better than a 8 and so forth. Ofcourse you can buy the raw equivalent (all graded cards are raw before theyre graded) and many do just that. The only time value is an issue is when the card is too expensive relative to your income. But that's not a good thing.

Buying raw has the risk of card defects that sellers try to hide in pictures or the defects just don't show up well like binder dings.

If there was a required high resolution to eBay listings and required "card angles" to really show the surface than we wouldn't need to rely on a grading company because we could verify ourselves.
>>
>>49289388
every passing of hands and every purchase box staying sealed this becomes further from the truth
>>
>>49289388
miserable reading comprehension
PSA 8, 9, 10 of those vintage cards costs more than raw. the only cards where psa 9 costs less than raw are shitlow modern where there are +1000 psa 10 cards everyday that passes.

Slab collectors have always been only one group of collectors. Many other collectors don't slab, or only slab specific cards, opting instead to display their cards in binders or whatever. There was never a collective push to grade like there has been since the influencers took hold. Now people who normally would never touch this hobby are being misguided into trying to be like their rich surrogate friends for what is in reality a paltry profit. The end result is that the hobby is ruined for people who have been into it before the newfags were born, and those newfags aren't even getting much of anything out of it themselves. Meanwhile the investors (people who don't care about the hobby beyond its means to generate profit - see 90% of the large influencers) make out like bandits because the hype they've generated through their retarded audiences drives up demand for whatever they happen to own.
>>
>>49285860
Not him, but only tourists to this hobby would seek fucking auction listings for these cards. There are many other means through which you can buy cards without getting into bid wars. Anyone who thinks they're going to get a deal on a site like eBay has got to be huffing paint. The opportunity for that passed quite a long time ago now.

I buy and flip pokemon cards. I barely collect any cards for myself, and see all high value cards as an investable asset to sell at a later date.

However, I also love pokemon as a franchise, and love seeing people's collections.

Maybe six years ago, I wanted an Ancient Mew really bad and picked up a sealed one for like $10. I've still not opened it, but it's always bummed me that I can't display it, because only the back of the card is visible through the wrapper since there is a TCG promotion card covering the Mew card's face.
I don't want to buy another Ancient Mew because they're inflated as fuck (especially considering that goddamn millions of them were printed). I can certainly afford it, but it's the principle. However, I'm afraid to open it for the same reason - it is a sealed, basically mint card that everyone and their mother seems to value. I'm really not sure what I should do, any opinions?

kek, anon that is the exact reason why silver is a scam.
fiat currency is never leaving, there is far too much invested into it for it to collapse.
in the event fiat failed and gold/silver standard returned, the debt levels would cause every country on earth to implode and society would collapse.
you'd be dead in a week, people would be using chunks of your silver bars to barter to food and your pokemon cards would be burnt for warmth

You know his point is about the price difference about grades right, not about grading in its entirety being a scam. Generally though you look at each grade and it can either go up or down a grade but usually no more than that. Its not an exact science but you can for the most part get a general feel for where it would land on the grading scale. Collectors have been grading for much longer than youve been in the hobby for, so its pretty naive for you being a newfag telling other people what they can and cant enjoy.

No anon I’m the one who said it won’t fail. The trillions upon trillions in debt in the world drastically outweighs gold and silver which is the entire point of fiat, it allowed unchecked wealth creation as there were no physical limitations.
And if you think people will let fiat fail are deluded, we will all be dragged kicking and screaming into the very peaks of hyper inflation if it’s needed, hell that’s perfect because if a loaf of bread is worth 100m dollars that 1trn in debt isn’t so bad. Silvers not going to retain its value because it has absolutely no value outside of cosmetics, at least Gold is essential in creating electronics, for now.
Fiat will exist until a time when a revolutionary economic system replaces it or the world we know comes to an end and with a complete breakdown of every institution silver isn’t going to be worth shit anyway.
The Gold/Silver standard is dead and it’s never coming back.
So that’s why I’m laughing at you, because only a retard would invest in silver, you can find growth in so many areas but instead you’ve tied up your money in an asset that will only depreciate in value until the next market scare.
>>
>>49291761
I'm not going to type out paragraphs since I'm tired too.
I'll just say that I don't disagree with anything you're saying, I just want you to consider the non-monitory value of the things you invest in. Gold is a better investment than silver since its conductivity gives it wide use in electronics.

If you're going to be reasonable I will too. Silver is also used in electronics, as well as medical supplies and dozens of other industries. It's also grossly undervalued based on projected supplies left to mine (whereas gold is roughly where it should be), due to artificially suppressed prices to prop up COMEX trading imaginary supplies. I'm not about to get that into it here but you can ask /pmg/ for more if you're interested, they have tons of (sourced) infographics and love newfriends.
Gold will always be worth more, but if you're betting on that default you can get a lot more bang for your buck with silver.

Pokemon cards.

Then that box is only worth $20k, I won’t comment on this because I have no idea about TCG investment and I assume it’s a long term asset but as far as I can tell prices are also falling after the Covid mania.
Certainly not something you’d want to tie up a significant amount of cash in unless you were very well off.

Should I be a binderfag or a stackfag? I like the idea of having top loaders, but I want to know what everyone else does.
>>
>>49299597

I'm moving away from toploaders. They are up there as the least soulful and least kino way to display/store your products.

Everything that's currently in a top loader is either going to be added to my cards in one-touch case, or in binders. Top loaders are just too ugly, obscure the card too much, and don't even have good craftsmanship. Not to mention there is too much "extra space" around your card that it looks cheap, and it's impossible to keep your card centered in them.

One touch or binders.

Monkey pawed. I wanted cheap singles when I was kid but never has this hobby felt so soulless and commercial. I remember when secret rares were almost guaranteed in every box, now you have a 1/3 chance of getting 1/20 for the Pokemon you even want.

I miss ripping packs and feeling excited for a pre-release.

Lol, no. A sleeved card in a binder, especially a binder that is bound with no rings, will keep your cards just as pristine as if they were in a top loader.

Unless you're taking your cards out of the pages AND their sleeves to look at them and touch them, literally nothing will happen to them. Just don't flip the pages like an aspie. That is to say, don't fold them, just flip them over with tension.

If you really want to go the extra mile to protect very expensive cards, or cards that you want to display, use one-touch cases.

Top loaders are have ZERO soul and are the least kino way to look at cards.

100% this. I only use Ultra Pro platinum pages with KMC Perfect Size sleeves (closed end facing up) to protect my cards and have never had a problem - my cards from '99 are as mint as they were then as they are now. As you said, you just need to handle the pages correctly - turn them with tension.

>>
>>49300412
Cope. You can be broke and still afford toploaders. You can also use your fucking brain and realize they are shit for display purposes unless you're using them for a select few cards.
No method of display is more pleasing than the binder, a book of cards where every page is filled with color and different artworks.
>>
>>49300425

As I sort through bulk, I take out cool illustrations that I like and put them in my binder. The vast vast majority of bulk gets sorted and sent off to a LGS for store credit that I then exchange for singles.
>>
>>49300440
An actual LGS (ie. local to you) or some online thing?
>>
>>49300442

I could go local, but I do not. What I do is:

>Look at the various card shops that take bulk
>Look at their exchange rates
>Estimate how much I would get at each

I then cross reference that with the singles/products that each store has. I make a decision based on all of that info. At the moment, I don't send my bulk to an actual local store that I can drive to. I could, but I prefer the rates/singles at another store.

>toploaders go into a box like this chad
>>>49290536

They aren't doing a better job of protecting cards than binder bro you were responding to.

In fact, I would wager that the top loaders are doing a WORSE job because I can see that the toploader opening AND the sleeve openings are both facing upright. That's just asking for particulate matter to enter and scratch your shit. Binder prevent that to a greater degree.

>wtf you put hundreds of cards up for display or some shit?
I have the majority of my collection in a binder and that makes it easy to organize and show off my collection to my friends or to myself when I feel like looking at them. A collection is meant to be enjoyed, and to me it's hard to do that when they're in a box.
Also >>49300506 is right, this is why in my first post I pointed out that my sleeves have the end facing up inside their pockets. So many retards out there put the open side up because they think that by merely being in toploaders, they are impervious to humidity and dust particles. They are not. And unless your box has an airtight seal, neither is said box. This is why I recommend zipper binders.

>>
>>49300566
Nothing wrong with owning silver, in fact it is more useful than gold as a safe asset because it is likely to always be worth a value that is easily exchangeable for smaller amounts of fiat, whereas gold is likely to always necessitate larger sums in exchange.
But I understand what you mean, I feel the same way about my single Charizard card being lusted after by literal retard normies.
>>
>>49300601
Don't use cheap penny sleeves. I cannot stress how good KMC sleeves are; they fit very snugly over the cards within them and will slide easily into any pocketed page.
>>
>>49300577
what album is this? I have some 12 card sets I'm looking to display
>>
>>49300601
I use Dex Protection binders and the regular Ultra Pro penny sleeves fit in them perfectly, and by perfectly I mean snugly. It's like the slots are almost the exact size of an ultra pro sleeve
>>
>>49300610

I like that penny sleeves are a bit loose, it makes it easy to slide the card in (and out if need be). Perfect fits require me to push the card in by applying pressure to the top, and I feel the edges kinda scraping against the sleeve as well when they go in. Not a fan of them, especially for holos

Search "Ywlake Photo Album 4x6 300 Pockets, Linen Photo Albums" on amazon. Links make 4chan wig out.

The pages aren't strong/big enough to double-side with top loaders, so I've just got cards on every other 'page' so i can see 12 at a time.

With these though, I end up with a lot of excess pages since toploaders are much thicker than your average photograph. Each of these can hold about 144 toploaders without looking too full.
>>
>>49300601

What this >>49300610 anon said. I use Dragon Shield outer sleeves for all the cards that I keep, regardless of their value. If they are worth it enough for me to want to keep, they are worth it enough to keep in good condition. Penny sleeves are flimsy and bend and crinkle. Dragons shields do not. I use dragon shield clear-classic outers, and for things that go into a one touch I use dragon shield sealable perfect fits.
>>
>>49300642
Idk what to tell you, I have never had that problem. If your pages are new, that might be why. They will loosen up a little over time if they have cards in them. It's not like you should be constantly moving your cards around anyway.

No, I've got the 300 pocket ones.

The pockets themselves are horizontal and hold 2 toploaders each. They side load from the inside and are fairly snug inside, but not too much.

The one you linked might not work well for toploaders unless you put them in sideways and open the album vertically.

What the fuck. Just use a good quality outersleeve and put them in a high quality zippered binder. Your binder is going to be 100lbs, 6 inches thick, and won't even prevent dust from getting in since they aren't zippered or made very well.

Either just binder them all (your charizard will be fine). Or slab the zard, and have a proxy/worse condition version for the binder.

Perhaps holo goes in the slab, reverse in the binder. Or holo in the slab, and dmg in the binder. Or a proxy.
