For some context here that I failed to mention. This is for my personal fan dex project don't intend on releasing anything just a hobby where I'm working with an altered and reduced type chart. In it poison is not weak to ground, it's neutral to it. Even if it was there isn't an EQ equivalent move. There is a 100bp special ground type move, but it has 90 accuracy. There is a Ground type Megahorn but that's single target only. Technically he would be 4x weak to Light and 4x weak to fire and that's it. There is no fighting, bug, dragon, fairy types. There are normal type moves but no normal type monsters. It's more of a "what if" scenario to see how the comp landscape might change with access to some new moves and mons but without access to some of the more staple moves like earthquake and flare blitz

It's a different interpretation of "Dark" as an attribute. Gamefreak's Dark type is less about actual darkness and more about fighting dirty, which is why the majority of dark moves are just cheap fighting moves like sucker punch, etc. I'm going for the more literal interpretation of Darkness. Fire is commonly used to ward off evil and cleanse evil objects etc. It does make some sense in that context. Also without fighting Dark isn't weak to anything other than Light, so it needed another weakness to be balanced.

I reduced the types specifically because I wanted a higher amount of mons per type. for example, with 18 types and 200 mons, if you split each slot evenly among the types that would be ~11 pokemon per type which isn't much considering there will be 3 stage and 2 stage mons. That would bring the total number of fully evolved mons per type to around 3-5 depending on how many stages each unique line gets. With 14 types that 11 becomes a 14, which means ~4-6 fully evolved mons per type, enough to fill a potential E4 team with. That isn't really counting dual types but It still is significant enough to justify. Basically the more types there are the more monsters you need to make to have a reasonable number of each type.

The moves are also suitably generic such that other typed monsters are able to learn them without it feeling out of place. I have a few other moves that use it. "Shriek" is a generic 50BP special ghost type move which has a chance to cause Fear. Plenty of mons should be able to learn it. There is also "Deathly Howl" (90BP 90AC Sp Ghost) which is the signature move of a mon based on the Barghest of England.

Then there is Dark Terrain, which in addition to boosting dark moves also increases the chances for moves to cause fear as long as it's active.

If you have something essential to the identity of the design, give it a color that stands out with the color scheme. If your design is still having trouble standing out, try gray scaling all the colors and seeing if they end up blending together. If so, darken some values and lighten others.
