I don't like how Salamence floats in the air since Pokémon X and Y. Dunno how to really articulate it, but when it stood on the ground in the GameCube and Wii games, there was something significantly more imposing about it, something more regal and cooler.

Yes. A small handful of pokemon kept their idle animations when using moves like Fly, typically either those who weren't supposed to be using Fly in the first place or extreme outliers, or a small handful of pokemon that are just genuinely always airborne. Fearow, for example, has just always been a pokemon that always flew.

This is so weird when you remember every Pokemon had walking and running animations in Sun and Moon's files, there was nothing stopping them from using those animations for Z moves, since a number of them had the Pokemon rushing in at some point, but they just don't, resulting in a ton of animations where a Pokemon's idle is just flying at high speed without moving.
