>What is this game?
BallisticNG is a PC anti-gravity racing game available on Steam, based mostly on Wip3out, with optional mechanics from the newer Wipeout games.
If you like going fast, good tunes, and good fun, this game is for you.

>How do I join?
Get the game.
(Optional: Grab the Outer Reaches DLC)
Download and install the track pack (instructions in the pastebin).
Launch the game, go to Multiplayer, and join us.

Information on how to install the track pack is here:
https://pastebin.com/yL6rYqC3
Newest Trackpack (last updated: 2022/12/02):
https://mega.nz/file/fkRAEbKL#XtYpPD-BFE0vxOEeQG11cb0zIrkXpVLnzpt9bydOsb8
Newest Minipack, get this if you're just updating your track pack:
https://mega.nz/file/bohyUY5a#KWB0ETsoiWU2Cz_bzKXH1dif00jxmUF7-zI0aUJiXrs

>How do I play?
A 3-step guide will be posted containing the basics of going fast.
We can also answer any questions you might have, either here or in the lobby.

We have a Steam group: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/ballisticnv
This is used just for organizing race sessions, no circlejerking.

We have a regular session going every week on Saturdays at 9PM GMT, but there's nothing stopping peeps from starting up lobbies outside of that if people wanna get racist during the week

Do I need to pitch up/down on rolling hills or is it only relevant when you're airborne?

I just want to know if I should be pitching up when banking into high angle turns. Then subsequently pitching down as I exit if the track is somewhat angled downward.

>>
>>853117
pitching down is really rarely useful, pitching up however is really important
>>
>>853236
So pitch up into a corner that's going up or should I just pitch when I'm coming off a ramp?
>>
>>853274
Both, but never too much. Pitching up harder on climbs but on jumps I usually start pitching up before hitting the ground
You should only pitch down when you're jumping so high it makes no sense/slows you down, or you're about to hit something
>>
How the fuck do you get sub 59 seconds for the Ishtar achievement? That one long corner that goes up completely fucks my momentum, the lowest I've gotten is 1 minute
>>
>>854511
King of Snake? I found that the slowest part of the track was the long straight-ish bit just before the big downhill with the boost pads, so you should be afterburning all the way through that, can't remember doing anything else specific so ya just gotta grind it out.
>>
>>854522
also to be clear i mean the downhill just before the pit/finish line, not the long one after the chicane

My bad. I tried really hard but I couldn't jump over that one. But I think I managed to shave off like 0.3 by rebudgeting some afterburner on the exit of each turn on this section you speak about.
>>
>>854886
How do people lift off like that? Pitch up and air brake both sides for a second?

Any advice on getting used to zen anons?
I was managing spectre just fine but the zen zeus campaign is destroying me.
The nova split race in particular feels impossible, I keep bonking into everything.
Also, should I keep "AI rubberbanding" and "AI uses player speeds" turned on?
>>
>>855411
>"AI rubberbanding"
makes the game harder
As for zen you'll get used to it. I'd say reducing your input lag helps but some anon here seems perfectly fine playing at only 60fps, so what do I know..
>>
>>855319
not that anon but there are a few ways to "bounce" over a corner like that, in that webm it looks like he just pitch up + afterburned over an uphill to clear it, as long as you arent grinding against a physical wall the game is pretty lenient at letting you do stuff like that, as long as you don't go too far and get antiskipped
there aren't many situations in the game where you need to double airbrake outside of like, hyperdrag or something

god bless Our Father Korn (who art in normalfag land) for blessing us with the newbie guide images
i'd update the second one to include the new 1.3 small ships + mako but i don't have korn's grafik design skillz so it'd be a very sloppy edit and probably ruin the image
>>
>>856290
I can help for the image
>>
>>856331
hit me up (Starskink) on steam (im in the steam group) if you want my input on ship stats and whatnot
but if ya could add the small vehicles + mako and a short description for each to the original newbie guide image either without breaking its aesthetic layout, or creating a whole new AESTHETIC layout, that would be perfekto
i think Korn's original descriptions for the base game ships are still pretty relevant and accurate today so no real need to mess with those too much

hitting up campaign mode until you can at least play comfortably on spectre before you join multiplayer lobbies
just kidding everybody is welcome but you'd be doing yourself a massive favour getting used to halberd speed at least
in SP you're in for: pitching up and learning to abuse afterburner to get ez time trial platinum medals
in MP you're in for: MINES MINES TREMOR ENERGY WALL *reaches the midpack* MISSILE CONTENDER ELIMINATED over and over and over until you figure out the good balance between afterburning and playing it safe in MP because god knows these niggas are 10x more bloodthirsty than bots
to not sugarcoat it this game in MP has a learning curve very similar to fighting games, you will undeniably eat shit for a while before you realize "oh, that's how it is" and start shitting on people yourself
>>
>>860345
to add to this most if not all of the podium players end up in or below the midpack in races decently often simply due to weapon pads and how the chaotic nature of races plays out (stop bullying me with plasmas you FUDCKING ASSHOLES), it's not unheard of for some random newfren to claim 1st place on occasion
t. regular 2nd place placer
>>
>>860345
>halberd speed
i just did the first survival race and halberd doesn't seem to be too crazy, im not getting platinums in any other type of race yet, though.
>>
what does the campaign difficulty affect? i think "normal" is too easy, to the point where the ai is constantly lagging too far behind to even send rockets my way and when they are close enough they almost never hit.

>>
>>868844
it's a great ship but it's unarmed and lacks the NX's absolutely busted speed stat (iirc the NX is actually more like 20/10 top speed in the "hidden" ingame stats) and struggles to get away from the pack early on without a fair bit of luck

I saw Von Snake at the track in Altima XIV yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for Protonic buffs or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his airbrakes shut in front of my face. I drove away and continued with my racing, and I heard him chuckle as I boosted off. When I came to finish my lap up front I saw him trying to walk out the pit with like fifteen mines in his ship without paying.

The girl at the exit was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to hit a weapon pad first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the pad.

When she took one of the mines and started spawning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to spawn them each individually “to prevent any RNG infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she spawned each mine and put them in a line and started to say the damage values, he kept interrupting her by afterburning really loudly.

Brake earlier than you think - the craft have momentum and pivot around their centre point. They fundamentally move like flying boats rather than cars or planes.

are you making use of your afterburners and the pitlane? because the AI doesn't know how to do that, and its a good way of getting an advantage over them - also good practice for when you jump into online cause all the big autismos do this
>>
>>917965
I've been using the pitlane, and been using good spot to use the afterburners so I can get ahead.

My problem is still bonking into walls.
>>
>>917970
ah yeah then there's not really much to say besides "keep playing"
the learning curve for this game is very similar to that of a fighting game, in 99% of cases the answer is just "play more"
though i think by default the campaign scales enemy ship speeds to your chosen ship's top speed, you can try disabling that if you want to get a proper feel for the difference between certain ship statistics, but truthfully i dont know much about it because thats a thing that got added in one of the more recent patches
>>
>>917977
Might try turning that and rubber banding off, just to see if it makes a difference in how the races feel.

I'll get the hang of this eventually. Game is fun.

as a noob, i would love if there was a warm up round before every race. I would help me learn the map at a slower pace so that I don't get stuck on the first turn, like I usually do.
could that be setup without any headache I wonder? if yes, would you guys mind?
>>
>>938368
i wouldnt mind doing "warmup" toxic sessions personally, but honestly, these multiplayer lobbies have always been a "trial by fire" kinda deal, and that sort of thing would eat into the 3-hours-or-so we usually do the regular saturday racism for, especially if we did this for every single newfriend
if you're having trouble with halberd speed itself, i recommend just playing the campaign more, the multiplayer races are 99% halberd specifically because it's the "mid-class" in regards to the learning curve, so people can mostly jump in and race even if they arent 100% platinum autismos
i can understand the frustration racing on custom tracks that are brand new to you while other peeps in the lobby have raced on them many times before, but if you're already accustomed to halberd speed then it only takes a few goes around a custom track to get a decent "grasp" on it
t. hostfag who is relatively new to hostfagging, i welcome any and all thoughts
>>
>>938376
also to add
if any newfriends feel bad about DNFing in multiplayer, please dont, the podium niggas are all nerds who have played these custom tracks hundreds of times over the past 3 years and in a few cases know some really wacky corner-skipping tech (WERNER)
just focus on learning the track to start, then focus on beating whoever's in front of you, there's no shame in DNFing as a newbro
>>
>>938376
>>938386
what I had in mind was just a single lap before the actual race starts. we wouldn't even need to start at the same time. Just as soon as you load type of deal. but I realise this is probably beyond the scope of regular host settings.
I don't mind dnfing at all, I'm having tons of fun being just racing with ya. a warm up could imo only make the battles a little tighter for the first timers on a new map. but maybe I'll just run through them in the week, there's some really cool pieces. very inspiring, too. maybe I'll actually try to make one of my own some day.
>>
>>938450
yeah, i feel you, there was a point of discussion back in ye olde days, starting off the racism sessions an hour or something earlier, it could be a good idea to do something like this for newfriends, but y'know, timezones and all that jazz, its hard to please everyone in this regard
if anyone would be willing to kickstart racedays a bit earlier, for lack of a better term, a "noob lobby" running for a little while on saturdays before the main lobby goes up at 9PM britbong time, that would be based as fuck, i'd do it myself but i can't be bothered lmao and also for me 3 hours straight of such an adrenaline pumping racing game already leaves my boomer ass rather fatigued afterwards

but yeah honestly, your best bet if you wanna get burnt up less in MP is to just practice more in your own time, grind out the campaign and maybe time trial the custom tracks a bit
>>

Keep in mind last ship I made was in 2021 so it might be different now.
First you download a unity project the devs released. This project allows you to create both new ships and tracks.
Once you have opened this unity project, you go to "BallisticNG -> Ships -> Create New Ship"
This will create you a ship prefab. Once you have this ship prefab, you'll import your 3D model thingy into the scene. Then you'll move around thruster plumes, wingtip trails, resize your ship (you can load visual guides in the shape of a g-tek for example), etc.
And when you're done you'll click on the export button and it'll create a ship that you have to move into your ships folder.
This guide helped me a lot back then https://ballisticng-documentation.readthedocs.io/en/latest/unity_tools/custom_ships/index.html
i should get back to it is what i keep telling myself for a long time

I still haven't forgotten what they did to Metro. Stop catering to whinging retards who can't into turning. The colours on the old Nova Split are a lot nicer too.
>>
>>956408
The worst bit about the Metro change is that a lot of its difficulty was tied up in being deliberately visually confusing. The raw track by itself has a lot of interesting or tricky sections, but it's not exceptionally hard to the point that it needs to be edited. I'd be against changing either, but by focusing on changing the track first and foremost, the visual element that was core to it previously was neglected, so it's become a bit of a mess. Like it's meant to be tricky but old Metro was also consistent, whereas new Metro has some of the old and new bits of varying nature, and it's just kinda all over the place.
>>
>>956408
vonsnake really has a hard-on for getting rid of or heavily nerfing chicanes recently, it's annoying as fuck, someone really needs to put old metro on the workshop

Just spent last night and tonight digging through the archive to chase down some anon who apparently caused Enai to stop playing with /v/ because of track criticism only to find that the ghostbin link containing said criticism doesn't work (ghostbin doesn't work period), went down a rabbit hole of retards on discord getting upset at Enai for mentioning the existence of WTRP to /v/.

Also, these people actually got upset at somebody using reverse camera missile functionality in a discord monday race, as well as general seething over reverse tremors.

I have since redoubled my commitments to mastering Diavolt, learning every Enai track, and will now be reverse tremoring at every opportunity.

And fuck the turbo and tremor drop rate nerfs.

Is there a guide for porting the tracks? shit, i would restore omega harbor and metro do their former glory too. those were really good designs. i have no idea why the dev decided to replace all these chicaines, corkscrews, and hairpins with wide smooth curves. the same guy who designed them and made them cool in the first place.

it's not just that the tracks were harder, but also much more memorable and distinctive from each other. it's a lot of fun to get the perfect angle and boost through the chicaine on marina rush, blasting past everyone who is braking and turning. it also sucks when someone does that while dropping mines. but those are the kinds of things you remember. that only happened in one area of the game. That's the kind of track you remember. a fucking garage door is no replacement for that.

It's just okay. As far as floorhugger goes, I think most of the tracks that weren't designed from the ground up for floorhugger actually work better with the physics than the maps that were designed to be played on floorhugger physics. Heil Helios Descent

Funny enough, it was BallisticNG that got me into WipEout in the first place with the HD collection

>>
to get custom menu music working you have to make a seperate folder for each track, convert it from whatever format it is to WAV, and then name it Layer1, it will play the songs randomly and as far as I know you can't control or skip songs.
>>
>>1009169
i tried this before and it broke the menu music completely, just silence
>>966249
>>
>>1009249
did you manually change the format to wav?
>>
>>1009255
yep, maybe it fucked up because i just named the folders numbers, ill try renaming them next time i launch the game
>>
>>1009257
I noticed when I tried putting a 1 in front of one of them to try and organize it that one didn't play, so it might have to be a letter, another thing could be in the config.ini document there's a setting called custom music mode that's set to 0 by default so I set that to 1 at the same time I was fiddling with the custom music, it could be either one of them i'm guessing.
>>
>>1009258
I just tried putting numbers in front of all of the songs and changing that one config setting to 0 again and it still worked so I guess it isn't either of those after all.
>>
>>1009257
if your .wav files are named Layer1.wav instead of just Layer1 they won't work, I just tried it

It took me until I read the info to realize the protonic ag4 is also a drift ship, it just has less shielding in exchange for better acceleration, handling and a bit of firepower.
>>
>>1010035
it used to be much driftier until vonsnake changed the handling for some fucking retarded reason
>>
>>1010038
Yeah I noticed it seems to have less braking power than the model c and you have to let off the gas before taking sharp corners to not bonk. I guess that's some sort of balance on his part though I don't think it's necessary.

you **never** need to let off the gas in bng
even if you're driving nexus on praetoria or some shit, you can always wallgrind or hop your way around the bends, one exception maybe being whooshtrack where its almost impossible to make it around the end of lap hairpin without falling off the edge, but that's a meme track
>>
>>1010058
that's true, it might be from playing old wipeout that makes me brake harder and more often than I should.
>>
I also probably don't have enough experience with the protonic yet either, because I remember it took me a while to get good at the karts and now I like those a ton.
>>
>>1010069
daily reminder to invade the bng shitscord and demand a protonic revert as well as an armed bike
don't actually do that that'd be even gayer than when the discord niggers invaded our lobbies years ago for playing WTRP tracks
>>
>>1010075
I think an armed bike would have to be with the regular ships since otherwise people could breeze through the aster campaign, that's probably why vonsnake put the model c in it's own section besides lore reasons.
>>
>>1010078
just make it a "banned" ship like the 'cudas, unusable in campaign but fair game in multiplayer
>>
>>1010080
that's a good idea, or make it an unlockable ship like the scorplet
>>
>>1010075
so how badly did the protonic get gimped anyways?
>>
>>1010084
i wouldn't really call it gimped, more that it had its most unique aspect among the standard ship roster (slippy slidey dorifto) mostly taken away from it
it used to be an underdog that could give the likes of nexus a run for its money on certain tracks, now it's basically just a gtek with a slightly heavier rear end
one of our OG veterans who mained protonic completely quit the game after that "update" hit, it's that bad
>>
>>1010087
that sounds like a pretty drastic change, sad to hear about one of the guys leaving because of it. I don't understand exactly what you meant but from what I noticed it feels like the protonic has less brake power but better steering which could make it a great contender like you said, where as the model c has more braking power but not nearly as good steering, making it less of an all-rounder than the protonic, not even mentioning the lack of weaponry.

>>1010109
I don't see why he had to, unless the model c was a carbon copy of it, two ships in the same niche it just fine.

Just managed to get a 00:40.91 lap time on Annapurna in a Diavolt, Halberd, Speed Lap. I didn't use Turbos at all, though I did accomplish the lap time with a rolling start from the speed I had accumulated in the previous lap.
>>
>>1013745
Just lowered it to 00:40:27, I think I can still go lower.
>>
>>1013751
nice, which paths do you take on the 3(4?) splits?
>>
>>1013751
man that's fast
>>
>>1014168
Left on the fork at the big drop, left after the big drop again, right into the narrow tunnel, right at the part at the very end of the lap in the open area. The most important fork is the one that leads into the narrow tunnel, that path can probably save 2 or more seconds versus the bridge with the speedpads. I've been busy doing IRL stuff and playing other games but I'm probably going to try and go for the 00:39.XX at some point as the 00:40.27 lap can still be improved in terms of racing line, pitching, and airbrake usage minimization. It's been very surprising to find out just how many corners you can clear on Annapurna going at Halberd speeds in a Diavolt without using airbrakes at all.
>>
>>1015499
neat, i normally take the right for the very first split and the left before the opening into the final stretch, ill have to do some speedlaps trying your route and see how it chalks up in nexus timing

Hey Faggots,
My name is Scorpio, and I hate every single one of you. All of you are slow, weaponless scrubs who spend every second of the race dropping weapons for shields. You are everything bad on the track. Honestly, have any of you ever done a reverse tremor? I mean, I guess it's fun shooting at bots because of your own insecurities, but you all take to a whole new level. This is even worse than getting antiskipped on Luna.
Don't be a stranger. Just hit me with your best missile. I'm pretty much perfect. I have the highest afterburner stat, and the best aesthetics in the whole game. What ships do you pilot, other than "afterburn to the front then die to a single missile"? I also get several turbos per lap, and have highly damaging mines (They just blew me up; Shit was SO cash). You are all contenders who should just be eliminated. Thanks for listening.

Rise and shine /bnv/, it's Saturday again.
Here's a pack of 100 songs for your custom music folder, 10 for each of the base game's 10 teams. They're split into separate playlists, meant for separate vehicles.
Every song (possibly 99.9%, unsure) from the PSX Wipeout games is in, also a few PC 2097 & Pure tracks, but most of the songs are new.

Well I did it; if anyone else is having trouble just keep restarting the first race until you make it to 1st by the end of the first lap, if you do that you have an actual chance of winning, and for the 2nd race you'll start in 1st and only the first couple of corners are risky but otherwise it's surprisingly easy as everyone behind you will be weapon spamming each other once you're out of reach.

>Vonsnake's reworking Aciknovae.
Again? Why? The current track is great and almost all the previous versions were great too, it's probably the last track that needs a rework while Utah Project has never not been shit.
>>
>>1044110
for most campaigns I usually just nx2k through it all, which works well for ignoring weapon spam, I don't know why snake is reworking Aciknovae, I know it's a tricky map but far from impossible. I like Utah project though
>>
Does anyone know if you need to platinum the drag stuff to get the all platinum achievement? Because I don't think I'll bother if you do, that shit should have been seperated like the weird mini racers.
>>
>>1045061
iirc you do, yeah
it's not too bad since snake nerfed luzujizz park but the tournament is balls
>>
>>1044360
Aciknovae is one of the easiest tracks though
>>
>>1045991
It was tricky to me, but I hadn't played it since I started the game and ended up getting the platinum time pretty quick after trying it again.
>>
>>1045322
>luzujizz park
I've done everything except the reverse tournament because the reverse of this track destroys me, and having to do 30 laps of two, what are now to me, borefests before you get another attempt just makes me want to play something else.

good
maybe snake will stop fucking nerfing perfectly fine tracks for the sake of tendies now
captcha: GRAHH
>>
>>1047488
No, not good
>>
>>1047492
why not
the past few updates has made it evident that the snekman is running out of ideas and needs to move on, maybe this unity shitshow has a silver lining on a cloud of dogshit if it means he stops needlessly fucking with BNG
>>
>>1047494
Perhaps the updates have been slow because of the Switch port, there is nothing good about having to throw a way years of development and a second platform
>>
>>1047498
the updates being slow is a good thing innit, the only meaningful things snek has done recently is ruining nova split, metro, the protonic, and soon the caliburn, and somehow breaking online netcode even more
maceno island was great most (all?) of that was brobama but that's about it as far as good updates within the past year go
