The original release of Dark Souls on consoles before the patches, where enemies had more health, did more damage, aggro'd from further away, gave half the souls, etc. etc. Obviously, you can mod this shit back in or delete the patches on consoles and start in offline mode, but you can never have the full experience + multiplayer ever again. It's done and it's gone forever.

Sub Rosa

Unique Social-Deduction Negotiation FPS game that had physics-based movement and shooting, but not the drunk kind, you could do all these cool grabbing moves and stuff.

The autistic controls and the fact that the game was de-listed kept the normies out until the developer made it public and removed 85% of the content for an awful game mode with the city being made of actual squares.

This game had a mode in it that was basically a proto-battle royale game. You spawned in a big suburban neighborhood full of PVE zombies and PVP players and you had to creep around silently infiltrating houses to kill enemy players while being careful to not make too much noise until absolutely necessary or zombies would swarm the home.

Extremely atmospheric and slow which is rare for multiplayer games. Getting into a firefight with someone in a back yard and then seeing zombies start to pour over the fence in huge numbers to eat your attacker while you hear the downstairs windows shatter open as zombies enter the home to eat you was just fantastic. Game was full of "oh shit oh shit oh shit" moments.

This and S4 League. Korean TPS were something else, the way they exploited movement gave so much freedom. Warframe's conclave reproduced that to some extent but is dead now and the main game doesn't take advantage of its gameplay at all possibilities https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8WtNIfYlqI

It had neat combat, especially when you hit a certain population density, and a simple, comfy, trade system.
I don't recall the main servers ever having more than 100 concurrent players though, so I guess it was pretty much dead on arrival.
It was fun going as pirate and fucking up the combat orientated faction. Caused enough havoc admin had to step in.

Because not only did Hi Rez abandon the game in a state that was borderline unplayable the first time
>Flag Drag
>Shit tier map designs
>TCN thumper and afk doombringer

They came back for like 3 months to fuck up the game harder with new updates before abandoning it again
>removed classes
>removed perks
> 3 armor types can equip any weapon of their size, heavily favoring heavies who can now carry all the best weapons between doombringer, juggernaut, and brute
>Mediums practically useless, but now you can play a soldier with a turret making the Thumper TCN problem even worse, too bad all the new maps are so shit that you don't want point defense
>Flag Drag still exists so fatty capping is strictly better than light capping
>They never ever even attempted to fix hitscan snipers so everyone just quit because aimbots became too wide spread and because the game was abandoned there was no ban waves or progression system to punish aimbots

If I coulld I would go back to 2011-2012 when the maps were god tier and flag drag and thumper tcn didn't exist, but right now the game is just a strictly worse quake.

I haven't checked in for a few years, but in my otherwise recent experience the population isn't big enough to support a full size flag game. The glory of several 10 man teams with their flags stashed all over the map, spying on each other and launching sudden invasions which made their own bases vulnerable, is some of the most glorious shit I ever saw in a game. Tribes had a mode like this also but it never really caught on there and I don't think you could choose where to keep your flags.

>>821747
What happened to this game was so far beyond ridiculous it turns my stomach. Disney should have blackbagged that motherfucker and beat it out of him. No one wants to hear this, but Diablo Immortal has that MMO feel of encountering other players in the wild and teaming up on world bosses. The P2W factor puts a pall of retardedness over the whole experience but it doesn't really interfere with my enjoying the game. People pay thousands of dollars just to be on a leaderboard. Play it for the open world and the 8 man raid bosses.

>>822149
Please explain this statement. Rotmg can fuck itself in the ass with a bread knife though along with whoever is running it. What an absolute travesty of a game it has become. While we're at it Digital Extremes can suck cocks in hell for taking down Survived By.

Brink's main similarity with Titanfall was how it made you play chapters of a campaign while you were doing multiplayer. All those maps were supposed to tell some kind of a story. Brink was actually a decent game (and the parkour was not a huge or intrusive part of it) but the problem was you had no choice what map to play or whether to play with bots. There were ALWAYS bots around, and it was difficult or impossible to tell who they were.

OG Tribes was so good. I played a 4 hour long match of Defend & Destroy once. Map so big you never knew where people were. No skiing yet so the heavies had to be moved on transports. Ridiculously long TTK caused big fights that could take several minutes. Game also not full of plebs so you'd always see names you remembered. Good and comfy times.

Atlas Reactor was re-released as Atlas Rogues and was basically a butchered PvE version of the game that was abandoned shortly after.
Dawngate was canceled by EA. I know a group was working to recreate it but changed course on the project into something completely different.
Stellar Impact was a fun space ship moba low player count meant long queue times and long queue times led to further low player count
Dystopia is dead but I think a group on discord still play sometimes.
Source Forts devs are working on a sequel and I'm sure it will be released soon haha

crysis 3 multiplayer on 360.

The frames were dogshit, yes, but the gameplay was amazing.

You could activate 'armor mode' to gain a shield equivalent to your base health, but it would slow you down considerably. Alternatively, keeping it off let you move around the map at lightspeed and fuck with people's aim assist up close. 'Stealth mode' was an pseudo-invisibility cloak (blurred blob with shadow) that made you even more vulnerable than with no armor, but let you cross sighlines unnoticed

Most of the game was about outmaneuvering your opponent to get a clear shot, activating armor only when you absolutely needed it to survive. You could consistently outplay shitters 1v2, 1v3, 1v4, 1v5. There was a golden age ~2 years after release when only the best players were still around and the 6v6 matches were absolutely insane.

I tried it again on PC a couple years ago, and although we found 12 players pretty easily, it just wasn't as. The sort of fast 360deg tracking you can do with a mouse invalidates all of the crazy movement, and high res + rendering distance makes the cloak dogshit. Also, it was pretty obvious that some players were using wallhacks and/or aim trainers.

RIP to a hidden gem

RaiderZ
It was an MMO that was trying to rip off Monster Hunter but it wasn't very good at that. Boss fights were still incredibly fun and I spent thousands of hours in pvp.
Made by the guys that made GunZ and when they released the awful sequel to that game it took the company and RaiderZ down.
All of MAIET's, he GunZ people, IP were bought by another Korea studio named Masangsoft a few years ago. They've shown interest in bring RaiderZ back but it's not happened yet. They very rarely, one or two times a year, post updates on the project. It's very slow due to being a small company and the assets and tools they got from MAIET when they bought them were not up to date. For some reason they were given alpha tools instead of the correct ones so a lot has to be rebuilt from scratch.
They have also expressed that changes will be made and a lot of then seem rather grandiose and I'm not sure how I personally feel about them.
A mobile game was also rumored but I've heard nothing since the initial rumor.
I refuse to play the Brazilian run private server.

Built on the peak that HL2DM already was, base wars CTF on aderral. Sad it fell apart with the leaked v2 release. Nowadays one remaining dev is working basically by himself on a sequel of sorts which is in development hell.

Surprised nobody said this yet, Vindictus before Rise update was the only MMO I've ever played that you could infact play fully solo for all content and have tons of fun. The raids designed for multiplayer were great too.
It still has some fun endgame fights to this day, but 99% of the game is total boring tedious ass now.
>>
Lineage 2 like 12 or 13 years ago. I no lifed that shit in highschool.

The PvP system was my favorite I've seen in an mmo to date. Basically, if you attack someone then you're flagged. If they attack back you can kill eachother without consequences (besides XP loss for whoever dies). If they don't attack back, when you kill them you gain karma and can drop gear if you die.

Trolling people was so effective in that game because it took so fucking long to do anything. People could lose 4+ hours of grinding time if they get killed. They come back with their friends, you come back with yours, everyone starts getting their clans involved, and before you know it you have a 100vs100 battle over what started as a grinding spot dispute.

The game was all about player politics and drama. Fighting over raid bosses, castles, grinding spots.

I'd never play it now even if I could bring it back to those days, cause you really had to no life that shit to get anywhere. I had a couple bot groups in the later days to sell the currency for cash and even that was basically a 2nd job

>>
>>848698
You sound like you feel smarter for beating it, that is kind of proving his point. I agree with you on the fact that I prefer when more things are going on in-game too though. There's more tension/adrenaline which simply makes it funnier to many people. Difficulty is intrinsically linked to how fun/engaging an activity is anyway, if it's too hard it's going to be frustrating but if you can see a route to victory that you want to pursue despite it being hard then that's the best
tl;dr if you aren't having fun playing dark souls because it's too hard you genuinely need to get better

>>
>>848878
Didn't say otherwise. Also there's a difference between a rebalance and a revamp. Old dark souls vs new dark souls is mostly rebalancing whereas some of your examples are straight up revamped gameplay making the old and the new two different games in essence so they're irrelevant to this conversation

NuDofus might as well be a different game. Same with wakfu. Completely wowified but worse (you solo to max level but then there's no real endgame and you also have to multibox)
>>
>>853390
>you solo to max level but then there's no real endgame and you also have to multibox
It's called pvp. Why would you rush to endgame if not to pvp? How can you sing 1.29's praises if that's what you dislike about 2.0? PVP was even more the focus of the game in 1.29 and older versions. Heck, the game was made off the desire of a guy wanting a final fantasy tactic pvp game. They even tried to make a purely pvp game with dofus arena. If you're not interested in pvp aka the "endgame" just take your time to play the "game" rather than skipping everything as fast as you can and then proceeding to complain that there's nothing to do. Dofus 2.0 might unironically be one of the most complete mmo. Also you don't "have to" multibox, you either chose a server where it's allowed or one where it's not, what the fuck are you saying
>wakfu
Wakfu was kind of dead on arrival. The anime helped a little bit but it always was that worse/bare-bones but f2p alternative to dofus. It's supposed to be a sequel but you can't really get that effect without closure of the original game. It pretty much has been regarded as a spin-off by the community and left on the sidelines since forever

ZPS is my pick too. The levels were really moody especially with that source engine lighting. Only real time a multiplayer game gave me the same feels the original Resident Evil's did. Shame the devs started adding gay gamemodes with objectives like it's L4D. It had a spike in popularity in 2018 which was great, but then died again. It doesn't even get players for Halloween.

I know Wildstar had a rough launch and poor leadership, but I really wish it had done better. I know the private server sort of exists, but it's pretty much a dead end project as well. Too much of the game was server sided to do much technical with it so the most you get is a tiny discord using it to erp.

Never played during the megabots thing, I left when they started restricting weapons/blocks to specific tiers. This killed 90% of the build creativity. Part of the fun was seeing a lot of different kind of bots, some tiny with overtiered guns but no armor, some with balanced armor and guns for their combat tier and some huge bots with tiny guns to soak up damage. It meant people who were clever could build better bots than dumb people, but apparently devs wanted to tempt more new people into playing the game and thus alienated the rest of the userbase.
>>
>>867754
didn't that just devolve into gunbeds with no creativity? i was only half paying attention to robocraft during its heyday in /egg/
>>
>>867810
Pre-nerf? No, you had people building everything from generic tanks to spiders with railguns to real exotic shit like flying squares with laserguns inside the square, where they killed you by landing the square around your bot and shooting you from all sides. Or the sweaty nerds who made a 1x1 block with the pilot's seat, a hoverblock and then a hugely overtiered plasma gun on the bottom and did nothing but camp spawn the entire game. If they got the drop on you you were fucked, but a single well placed shot would kill them. I saw someone driving a taco stand around, I got a screenshot of 2d Wallace and Gromit artwork and I made a flying/driving ambulance once.

Post-nerf I hardly played since all the creativity was lost, but I imagine it devolved into generic gun barge designs like you described.

Sadly didn't have a better screenshot, but here you can see Wallace and Gromit moving around, blue lasers being fired from what I assume to be Gromit's chest mounted lasergun. The blocks were color coded based on their tier, with higher tier blocks (including guns, propulsion parts, etc) increasing your bots' CPU value more than lower tier ones. Your total CPU value determined your combat tier, which is why the system rewarded creativity, spatial thinking and resourcefulness.

And this is the ambulance I made, in its flying configuration. The wheeled one had wheels on the bottom and the healing beams mounted on the top. Looking at the screenshot you can see I managed to fit 4 tier 8 healing beams, but the bot itself is ranked as tier 7 because I mostly used tier 1 (white) armor blocks. It both fit the build thematically - white armor blocks mixed with red blocks for the crosses - as well as functionally since it allowed me to bring better healing beams. Shit like this just vanished after they restricted tiers.
