Like Everquest 2 did with /pizza and Pizza Hut, you could type /diapers and get them delievered so you don't have to interrupt your epic hardcore gaming sessions with trips to the bathroom.Just an idea.
>>788657Wtf?
With how in depth this game is turning out to be, are developers thinking about adding a way of earning some sort of crypto token for playing the game? I read a past post that someone put out a while back about blockchain in AOC, but I;m not sure if he and I meant the same thing. There are a lot of advancements going on with etherium that could be useful, from personal experience I know I will be spending a very long time infront of the screen playing my favorite MMO. If I could get paid for doing so, well, I might make it my job to play.
I don't know dick about this game. Is the combat actually good? Are the existing non-combat systems just copies of another game?
>>789143Honestly nobody knows. They had like one playtest that people were talking about and everyone hated the combat. Now they've just shown us these developer talks with gameplay a few times since then. But nobody still has been able to get their hands on it.There's so many systems that need testing, tweaking to player feedback, and other none sense. The game is probably 5 years out at a minimum. I can only see them releasing earlier if they're getting pressure to deliver.
>>789146>5 years out at a minimum>development started in 2017massive lmao if true. i expect more fundraising and dodging questions on what happened to the millions already raised for the game since its kickstarter

>>826709Would you blow through all the money you raised in ACTUAL developers, large teams of costly staff because you can't hire pajeets to do coding or art for an MMO and deliver the product within 4-5 years max like any gaming studio should ?OrSpread the development over many years, possibly a decade or more by paying a smaller team big salaries (Make yourself rich legally basically) and come up with excuses/delays as to why the product isn't coming out, since the entire team is going at their own pace and frankly more focused on the cushy job salary paid for by kickstarter money than actually doing their jobs. All these kickstarter projects are fucking scams and people gullible enough to think some neckbeards who got millions thrown at them will not simply abscond with the funds instead of doing what they promised is just pure naiveness.Gaming studios (Real ones) often have private investors, venture capital funds, hedge funds, wealthy folks that can basically ruin the devs life overnight if they actually attempted to scam them out of their money. Now with kickstarter projects you replace the big dick investor and institutional finance money with fucking geeks and neckbeards who have little to no legal leverage against the team in charge of the project, aka they can just scam everyone and call it a day.
AAA MMOs are floundering because they drank the whaling koolaid which means they'll never be able to make a game worth a fuck again because the whaling game design playbook is>Avoid all bad feelings at all costs, whales hate failure>this includes social interaction, even 1% social interaction is enough of a chance to get a whale to feel bad and quit, and when whales make up 95% of your income, losing 1 whale isn't worth it if 19 non-whales quit>create problems that can only be overcome by extreme levels of grinding, keeping non-whales on the treadmill as food for whales, and offer the real solution to whales for real money, aka pay 2 win, yes this includes 'pay 2 not grind' for non-PVP games because whales only want to lord their wealth over other playersAnd in the extreme case that is modern world of warcraft>create FOMO content that requires 6-12 months to 'complete' with timegating so you lock in $200+ from your faggot fanbase, like elite transmog collections, 12 month sub exclusive mounts, or the new trading post battle pass system that requires you to invest 12 months of your time to unlock the new transmog which looks better and is more thematically on point with warcraft as a franchise than whatever the fuck dragonflight tier sets are supposed to be

>>833715This pvp sandbox tards still don't understand these games are psychopath simulators. They were interesting when MMOs were a new thing, but gaming communities are far more mature now than they were in the past. Their sensibilities are different. People don't want to log in to a video game and have some incel decide to terrorize them while they're just trying to quest. Progression can be difficult enough without some asshole killing you over and over again and putting people in a bad mood before they even get to the raid. I remember a girl from my guild in WOW legitimately crying over voice chat years ago because some assholes were continuously killing her while she was trying to get to our Icecrown raid. I confronted the people killing her and they were just laughing and saying they were doing it between arena queues. To them, it was just a fun way to pass the time...killing an innocent person again and again to the point she cried. That isn't a good look for a company to have in their game.
>>839094the best part is that the audience that wanted this type of experience moved onto sandbox survival so the only people left who want hardcore full loot mmos are shitters that couldn't make it into other games. not to mention the people who say they want these mmos ever end up playing them anyway, so the games die and the shitters cry out again "theres an audience for full loot pvp mmos" and the cycle starts over again

>>881991I just watched the intro and he's still coughing and sucking on cough drops, he's been coughing for the last 5+ public appearances spanning at least a year, is he dying of AIDS?
>>881991> Raise millions for mmo> Buy mansion> LARP that you're building the game and release crumbs over 10 years while paying yourself a 6-7 figure salary> Hire ukrainians/low cost coders/third world artists to do basic demos for showcases> Rinse and repeat until everyone forgets so you can slowly walk away from the projectGotta love these kickstarter scams lol
>>882037He already had a mansion though. He's famous for trying to fly his prospective guild members from L2 and Archeage to exotic countries and shit like that so that he could awe them into submission.
>>882507So why a kickstarter if he's loaded ? Lol never understood the ploy to impress his guild members and literally pay for trips, salaries and have a will to control an entire game's economy. I figured it didn't work out too well for him since everyone on board was in it for the money and no one was a real friend to him, they probably were all talking shit behind his back and he understood that sooner or later. Now instead of doing gaming bdsm roleplay on Archeage shotgunning money at strangers, his next move to boost his ego is to manage the "production" of an MMORPG using funds from the public.1. Being psychopathic like he is, it probably amuses him seeing that the money used to "develop" the game isn't his money but the public's money. He has zero skin in the game yet he gets to call the shots.2. He gets glory and recognition from a click of delusional retards who see him as a guru almost, the same vibe he was looking for back then in Archeage, but now in a more sustainable matter, as a "game dev".The main issue i have with that type of personality is that he doesn't give a fuck if the game releases or not, or whether it's a success or not. He's there for the thrill and the ego boost. He wants the glory, but doesn't care much about the results as long as people ride his dick. Who knows it might actually be a success assuming his ego gets next level and he shotguns even more money at actually developing the game but i highly doubt it, those types crash hard and get forgotten after a few years.I met a few rich trust fund babies larping as game devs in my past in different gaming studios and it went exactly the same way with everyone of them.
I just realized this thread is over 100 days old.Anyway, is there anything to hope for in terms of MMO besides Riot somehow miraculously creating a good game?
>>882862for sandboxes? riot mmo will be wow clone distilled into its purest essence, not saying won't be enjoyable but not really what these sandbox mmos go forthrone and liberty release this year most likely (1st half is still their launch window for now), designed to be playable on mobile via NCsoft's purple app so I'm not too excitedArcheage 2, jake song wants it to be his legacy, and he's unhappy with how AA1 was handled after he left (right before launch)pax dei, EVE in fantasy setting with ex-CCP devs, supposedly going into alpha in a few months, haven't seen much but they also want it to be streamable to mobile/tabletsI'm most hopeful for AA2, but AoC is really the only one that has taken a definitive stance on not having p2w, it's just up in the air if they can actually competently make a game
>>882875Riot is known for chaotic launches, stealing content and poor coding their games and taking ages to fix them.Valorant was coded like shit, stole art assets directly from Overwatch and copy pasted the CS GO competitive model/skin economy. It took time for them to turn it from a total shit stain game to a "success" capable to rivaling with CS GO in terms of popularity. The same will be the case with their MMO, the launch will be shit, the classes will be unbalanced and the code will be written like shit and it'll take an extra 1-2 years to make it "decent".They aren't trying to kill WoW, instead their strategy is to convert their large MOBA/FPS user base which is already into the whole fantasy world/sci fi metric into their MMO. Not many companies were in the position to do this so it'll be interesting to see how it works out.It worked well with Valorant with so many League of Legends players converting to it as their main game and competitive platform, so we could see something very similar with the riot MMO assuming they add a competitive pvp aspect to it.They couldn't give two fucks if WoW/Other mmo players join their game because they know they will since there's no other options out there other than the pay to win korean shit coming out soon or the furry tranny mmo that is WoW.Btw, regarding Archeage 2 and Jake Song, i wouldn't trust any word that guy says, korean MMO devs have been saying this shit for years how "they want to fix the pay to win problems" and how they "dont want to repeat the same mistakes of their past games" and then end up doing the exact same thing because it's the only business model that makes sense for a korean company, turning the game into a pay to win cash cow.
>>882919he's launched games without p2w (lineage, AA at first) so I do actually believe him (his intentions anyway), what I'm not so certain about is how much he will actually be able to control, it is kakao after allfor now it's just speculation since there's like 0 details, but that's pretty much why I have the most hope for it, they haven't shown me it will be dog shit yet
>>882752>So why a kickstarter if he's loaded ?Good question, and why the battle royale game with paid cosmetics and shit. The stories keep changing. My personal theory is that he's running this just like he ran the guild, just buying his way into being a game developer like he always bought his way into being a guild leader despite having zero skills in the game. So people who just want money stick with him, and along the way he picks up a lot of admirers who just see the position and money and think he's hot shit, something like Asmongold's fans. But yeah, constantly switching between "fully funded by me" and "give us the golds silly goys" is really suspicious. I guess people like that just love money more than anything else in the world and can't stop accumulating it at any opportunity no matter how small.
no really guys it's ISI money laundering
>>882919>korean MMO devs have been saying this shit for years how "they want to fix the pay to win problems" and how they "dont want to repeat the same mistakes of their past games"lol no, Asians love P2W systems. The guys saying that are the western publishers doing some lip service to the western players (see: cucks).
>>822329Everyone is just depressed and they need something to spend their hours on with social interaction, without feeling too challenging and upsetting their already fragile psyche. I think Mortal Online 2 is very fun, but it's too "hardcore" and the combat is too difficult. People who play MMOs are just depressed and want social interaction without much effort. They want to be rewarded without anything being stolen from them, and I don't mean full loot PvP. They don't want to level up and still lose to a "hard" mob, they expect to become gods at max level etc. It's just not fun man, that's why all these casual games die. The depressed casuals have fun for a few weeks, then never touch the game again and go back to their depression seeking the next dopamine hit. TERA did so well for a time despite having such a huge skill ceiling. The characters were so unique and good looking that the social interaction kept the game alive for both casuals and hardcore players alike, which created an atmosphere wherein it didn't matter if you sucked at the game which most casuals did, because you could still be a cute elin and do cute dances and have just as much fun in casual dungeons. The problem with that is that Westerners censor sexiness and do not want their MMOs to be attractive or cute. Being a Western MMO fan is horrible. Absolutely fucking terrible, we lose no matter what type of game it is, but likewise Asian MMOs barely have any mod support and 0 RP communities. MMOs are just fucked simple as

When People Say They Want Player Driven Content, What Do They Mean?I've heard quite a few people say that they want 'player driven content' and to not have the game hand them a story. But is this the minority of players? Outside of my own group, the people I've met who say this, then turn out to really just want 'an excuse or reason to start or participate in a conflict they can win'. Very explicitly just that (I've quite likely just had bad experiences?)Elite has good options for storyline between factions, basically Nodes and Node War style stuff, it's all there. Yet players often seem to just ignore options for it, even when it starts. Is the 'content' most people are referring to just 'I want to fight some people' and therefore the reason why they just gravitate to Fortnite/MOBAs/etc now?Is it that I'm misunderstanding 'Player Driven Content' to include types of RP or storyline due to my bias, that aren't actually important? This seems odd because a Sandbox game with just 'I want a reason to fight these guys' is still just a sandbox game and often might as well be an arena game.Elite has many things that a player can do which aren't directly conflict/opposition related, but people who actually play in Open (basically the owPvP 'setting') don't seem to engage with most of them unless they expect that this will lead to a fight, particularly a fight they can win.I used to think this was just me getting a data bias, because I 'already know all the people who would want more' and I already roll with those people, but after spending time in other PvP/PvX games, I'm no longer sure. I'm specifically talking about 'storyline', whatever that means to people, so if all that was just me jibbering, to you, I can bring it down to one question:Is Player Driven Storyline mostly just drama and conflict or things that will lead to it, for people you know?

>>899368Here's the correct future, objectively: a merging of sandbox survival/MMOs into basically a single genre. That is, you will have NPC cities acting as safe zones populated by ChatGPT style AI that players can have full conversations with all influenced by the local predetermined culture of that city/region. Some NPCs will know more about dungeons, creatures, and stuff like that and players will be rewarded for speaking with NPCs as much as they would be with joining up with players. Older NPCs will have more knowledge and so on. We're talking fully immersive worlds the likes of which people haven't seen before. Outside of these NPC cities, you will have a huge world where players can build and do whatever they want. Dungeons will primarily spring up through emergence as will raid bosses, think a Shadow of Mordor style system. We'll get to a point where NPCs will begin to conspire against PCs, band together, build, and "level up." Sufficiently leveled up NPCs will functionally be raid bosses, not because they are damage sponges requiring you to not stand in the fire, but rather because they will have turtled up and surrounded themselves with enough booby traps and minions (some of which might be PCs!) that one person couldn't hope to fight through it. If players run around and successfully destroy every monster/raid potential NPC, it will draw the attention of beings from other dimensions and "assassin" NPCs that actively hunt these people and destroy their shit making it so that the only safe place for them to hide at a certain point is within an NPC city. This is one layer of these future games. You will then have A.I. causing shifting natural resources of different rarities, deep crafting systems allowing for all sorts of customization, and magic systems that functionally run on their own natural laws that players will have to figure out. Even when the discovery process is over, the game changer will be the more advanced A.I. This shit is inevitable.
>>915993>ChatGPTlol
>>915996You should know what I mean. It's primitive now, but it isn't getting any shittier. There's going to come a point where you're going to be able to talk to an NPC in a much more deep way than "Hi, give quest speech." And it's going to happen a lot sooner than people think.

WoW did 'pvp only' abilities by giving you 3 of them but you have be flagged for pvp to enable them, but they're usable in pve. ffxiv did a pvp kit for each job since their pvp is only instanced, their pve kit is not available in pvp and vice versa.environment looks great, but fuck the setting. gameplay is what makes or breaks a game.>doesn't go through all the spellsincredibly fucking lame, where has all their dev time and money gone? creating assets and using the engine cost nearly nothing, like i said fuck the geography, you need a good combat system and animation system.visual effects on the spells are okay but they seem out of place, then again that can be good for visibility, to know a player cast that spell.idk anons, theyre huffing paint and trying to get us to huff it too

As it currently stands, a grand filter will absolutely occur here, and a grand filter isn't good for the longevity of a game thats subscription based, first is the MMO players, which is a subset of gamers, then there is the PvPers, which is a subset of that, then there is the good pvpers, then there is the good pvpers that will spend 18 hrs a day playing and grinding the game, and then there is the good pvpers that spend 18 hrs a day grinding and spend a whole ton of money on farmers. Everyone thinks they will be king in these games, standing above everyone else, having survived the great filter, which is how this game is being designed, to have players claw at each other to be the ones on top of everyone else. This will be great for a month or two, once everyone starts figuring out the game and getting a lay of the land, then players will min/max as they do. To min/max you'll need to hold the best spots, in order to hold the best spots, you'll need to be able to beat anyone else for those spots, and naturally the ones that hold them will do so by any means necessary.Once those players do so, they will snowball, and no matter what game anyone plays, this will always happen. This will further solidify the pecking order. Content in the game will not be dictated by your own actions, it will be by those that have monopolies on the content and their whims. Which becomes another filter. The Filter doesnt end there. Once thriving servers start to empty out after a few months, and all thats left are the guilds that have monopolized the server, which will happen once a guild does as they further snowball. The servers will then start to merge with other servers, and the guilds that snowballed more then other guilds in these mergers will then filter those guilds out as well.
>>933261The end result like in any of these games will be a filter down to a couple guilds in a server, players will be forced into these guilds if they want any chance of playing the game without being ganked for 100% of their playtime. These guilds will essentially be the equivalent factions like Horde VS Alliance with some smaller guilds/factions vying for scraps. Players will think their guilds will survive these filters as well, which 99% won't. These guilds will get swallowed up by the top guilds to lower chances of getting ganked substantially while getting protection, if you hate the vibes of the top guilds, then thats yet another filter. As all top guilds will have melodramatic BS, with cutthroat behavior even inside the guilds, where lower members will get lower loot, and higher members will get priority loot, which creates caste systems within these guilds. If a player should ever disagree with it, they will get banished from the guilds, and will effectively be forced to quit as there is no way they can survive against any mega guilds by themselves or with any smaller guilds. The end result, essentially 1-2 party factions/guilds per server. Top players in these guilds will get top picks, the remainder is trickle down economics. Congrats we made Classic WoW but with extra steps, and the top guild will get first dibs on top of it.This works great for game companies that have whale mechanics built into their monetization as it keeps their budget afloat, but a sub based game like this is going to suffer hard when the player base dips to an all time low after a year, which it will then need to adopt whale based monetization to extract more from the top players using sunken cost syndrome as a psychological tool.
>>933262In any open PvP game that i have seen in which they have lasted longer than a year, has had periodic server wipes. Long term, this kind of system always fails, but short term this kind of system thrives as the idea that a player will become top of the server increases with every server wipe thus keeping them around to play again for the next wipe, cause THIS TIME FOR SURE THEY WILL BE THE KING! YOU'LL ALL SEE! Most players don't ever get to the top, even for those that enjoy this kind of system, but its also the reason why any player would ever stick around for such a system, to be the king of the server.
>>933263ark survival evolved and rust are good examples of this, ark official pvp servers are run like a cartel since wipes dont happen while rust feels "seasonal" because of its server wipes
Can someone please explain action/tab targeting in detailed terms? Every video that "explains" it really doesn't, but already assumes I know how it works. I'm interested in MMORPGs and AoC but have never played a traditional one (outside of some very old mobile games and Runescape). I have played LoL, Souls games and Naraka, which people say plays like BDO with the animation locks.- Tab target implies that you have selected a target before attacking. Is it like lock-on in Souls? (but doesn't affect camera)- Tab target spell explanations sound like homing abilities in LoL. After the spell cast is successfully initiated, it's basically guaranteed to hit. Is this correct?- If the above is tab target, what isn't? Are aimed AoE spells considered action combat?- Auto-attacks sound like in LoL. After clicking on target, your character keeps attacking them, in LoL also following them automatically. Can be insignificant or significant damage based on build.- In LoL, casting spells sometimes means a quick character freeze, sometimes not, depending on the ability, and a pause where you can't auto-attack. Tab targe is often explained as having "freedom" and no animation locks, opposite of action combat. Action combat often also means hit stun and interruptions, while tab target sentiment sounds more like LoL outside of rare hard CCs. Can you give me an overall rundown on what interrupts what in a tab target and what can be done simultaneously?
God this game looks like absolutely generic fantasy slop now. Did they cut the customizable furry race yet? That'd be the nail in the coffin for me that this game had any hope of standing out from generic Tolkienshit. It was bad enough they got rid of the potion gun.
>>934896>Can someone please explain action/tab targeting in detailed terms?Tab targeting = you have to have someone tab targeted to use single target skills, AoE skills target everyone in the AoE.Action = you aim your skills towards the player/mob models like in a FPS, whatever they hit they hit, AoE skills hit everything.Hybrid = like Star Wars Galaxies NGE, it's still tab targeting but targets get auto-tabbed when you aim at them, you basically choose targets by manually 3PS/FPS aiming, AoE skills still hit everything. They're going for hybrid with this which is the worst and most annoying out of all three.
>>935647gw2 also has hybrid combat. you can attack as much as you want and whatever your attacks visually hit gets hit, but some skills have single targets so the game locks you onto whoever it THINKS you want to target. causes a lot of bullshit like fighting an enemy close-up, trying to use a leap attack on them for instant damage, and then flying away to a completely different enemy that wasnt even on your screenwhy do devs do this

>>916431If there are adequate penalties for acting like a sociopath in game, the system will balance itself. Ultima Online sort of got it right. If you PK you should go "red" and be declared a murderer. What that actually means depends on how seriously you want to dissuade people from doing it. At the most extreme, you could implement permadeath on a PK. Maybe less severe, if you have player housing, take a page out of survival games and make it so a murderer's house can be destroyed by players. Anyone who houses a PK gets a warning that they're an accomplice and they have X amount of time to ban the person from their house or they can have their house destroyed. Stuff like that. It's not coming up with a cure for cancer here, it's balancing an artificial system where plenty of precedents already exist for its balancing.

Kind of guy that never worked a job his entire life and decided to branch out of the family tree by having his own "project" aka this MMO so people around him stop calling him a trust fund baby.MLM types don't make this type of money and when they do they're extremely discrete and don't show their faces online because they're one step away from lawsuits/mass doxxing for what ever scam they ran.Ashes of Creation will fail not because it's a kickstarter scam (It could still be, who knows lol), but because it's an ego project for the founder who is more interested in showing he's working on something than actually getting it done.
>>968859Sounds like everything I've read about his Archeage guild in terms of personality, the kind of guy who pays others to be around him and throws massive tantrums when things don't go his way. Still doesn't explain the source of the money. How can this be looked into?
>>969013His dad probably made lots of money running a business, those types usually have boomer parents that got insanely rich in some niche field like oil or finance back when any retard with some balls could make millions because the market was less competitive and the purchasing power was stronger. He's one of the kids in the family that didn't directly inherit the business but got a big enough trust fund not to give a fuck so he's been burning money like a furnace since he turned 18 which explains how the guy was burning six figures in a month on Archeage just fucking around with the in-game economy and trying to build his cult-style guild.I have friends that fit the exact description of this guy and everyone got the same background basically lol. They're all past travelling, making new experiences, etc and are depressed fucks since they've seen and done everything by the time they reach 30. As a result they do stupid shit like burning cash on games like Archeage and take part in retarded personal business "projects" to give themselves importance and meaning as they see themselves as the shadows of their parents who actually built something from nothing.

The ISI primarily consists of serving military officers drawn on secondment from the three service branches of the Pakistan Armed Forces: the Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, and Pakistan Air Force, hence the name "Inter-Services"; the agency also recruits civilians. Since 1971, it has been formally headed by a serving three-star general of the Pakistan Army, who is appointed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan on the recommendation of the Chief of Army Staff, who recommends three officers for the position. As of 2021, the ISI is currently headed by Nadeem Anjum, a lieutenant general.[3] The ISI director-general reports directly to both the prime minister and the Chief of Army Staff. The agency gained global recognition and fame in the 1980s when it backed the Afghan mujahideen against the Soviet Union during the Soviet–Afghan War in the former Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. Over the course of the conflict, the ISI worked in close coordination with the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States and the Secret Intelligence Service of the United Kingdom to run Operation Cyclone, a program to train and fund the mujahideen in Afghanistan with support from China, Saudi Arabia, and other Muslim nations.[4][5][6]Following the dissolution of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan in 1992, the ISI provided strategic support and intelligence to the Taliban against the Northern Alliance during the Afghan Civil War in the 1990s.[7][8][9]The ISI has strong links with jihadist groups, particularly in Afghanistan and Kashmir.[10][11][12][13][14][15] Its special warfare unit is the Covert Action Division. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in their first ever open acknowledgement in 2011 in US Court, said that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) sponsors and oversees the insurgency in Kashmir by arming separatist militant groups.[14][15]

They studied them, noticed a pattern (the planes were being shot in the same places) and concluded the designs needed additional armor in those places. They were wrong. They had been victims of survivor bias, because the only planes making it back had NOT been shot down. I imagine for devs, a similar thing is happening with complaints.

Leaving the whole freehold situation aside, and speaking as a guild leader of a large competitive guild of over 1600 members; We often see conversations here that come from both casual and hardcore players but most often than not, they reflect worst-case scenarios of both sides, both of toxic guilds, griefers, as well as lazy or entitled solo players and are simply not reflective of an MMO's community overall.Yes, there are toxic players, griefers, and guilds that enjoy dominating and pushing away casual players because they feel superior - and there are also casual players who want to get everything without having to actually play the game, and want large groups of players to be punished by a game's design, but this is not reflective at all of the 2 groups of players. My guild for instance, and many, many other large guilds getting ready for AoC, want to compete for the highest objectives, my particular goal is to compete for a castle - and in a game like AoC, it would be very stupid to not look after the casual playerbase in our castle's region - by game design, we will be protecting casual players in our Region - and attacking players from Other regions - the same will happen with guilds in these other regions.I feel confident enough to say that most likely, the most successful Large Guilds in AoC will be the ones that actually understand that without support from the casual players in your region, you will not stay at the top for too long.
>>977129This, of course, applies to freeholds as well, if a big guild is trying to dominate their region's economy getting all the freeholds they possibly can even tho it is not a necessity why should players in those regions support them? and why would the other big guilds not fight back? this makes no sense - and this is why conversations about these particular systems also don't make any senseand even for the largest guilds, it is absolutely ludicrous to think there will be +1000 or +2000 player guilds that are Only made of hardcore players that play 12h a day, desu I don't think there will even be 2000 hardcore players in any server, usually the biggest guilds have a core for a few hundred HC players and the rest are *dedicated players that play for 3 to 4 hours a day, making them what most consider as a "casual". This is the case even in the most hardcore games like EVE, ARK or Mortal Online.AoC will be a game where politics is involved, and the best, biggest guilds that will "be in charge" won't be the guilds that push away casual players, those won't remain in charge for too long - and probably guilds that do that will probably be the smaller to medium "pk" or "red" guilds that will be constantly being put in their place by the top dogs.Remember, to hold the castle, there are weekly events that require support from other players in your region, there will be mayors that do not necessarily belong to your guild, and there will be world events and content that require good relations with other players, there's also guild drama which is responsible for 90% of guilds failing, and most often than not affects these guilds that are hated by their server even more.So I'd like to leave this message to reassure the casual players reading through these discussions, don't worry, you will be protected and you will be a valuable member of your node and community, and the best guilds on your server will make sure of it.
>>976675this is what happens when midwits try to use survivorship bias lol
>>977131>dedicated players that play for 3 to 4 hours a day, making them what most consider as a "casual"That's not a casual player. They might still be too lazy or shit at the game to be considered hardcore, but they aren't casual. Casuals play a lot less than that. The midcore players you describe are usually the ones fluffing up numbers so it's important to keep them happy. I'm not convinced AoC will.

>>980146and they do play something else. survival games are not meant for casuals outside of private coop play, they are insane social experiments that result from taking the logical maxims of seeing a "hardcore" game come to fruition where losses and time dedication to play are massive and the world with your character in it exists independently of you playing it. you can think of it as the ultimate answer to poopsocking pvpmmo gameplay: yes you CAN play a game like this, but do you want to?
It is the successor of Archeage, Lineage 2 and even New World. Of course, it is not going to be "Casual friendly" at all. If you are toxic, if you are hardcore no life jobless person or very rich person in real life by having lots of free time, if you are spend tens of thousands Dollars by buying illegal gold to have the best gear in the game as soon as possible and if you are in a guild with the same mentality then you will be one of the %10 percent that will enjoy the every end game content of the game. Otherwise, this game is not going to be casual friendly... That %90 of the players even cannot experience any castle sieges, similar to other mmorpgs!!! Casual players will quit the game and the game will turn into dead; but developers will not care because they have this %10 loyal players that will never quit because thy dominate the end game content for themself. Rest of the players and guilds will never fight against them... This happened in Archeage, Lineage 2 and even at New World. Ashes of Creation will require lots of real life to make progress that will force you to play everyday for 8 hours minimum to do farming and do in game contents...
>>982224So it's another MMO that's going to die a slow death because it doesn't understand how much the scope of video games has changed.
>>982224It's funny as a lot of the pvp focused games go in without understanding how much the hardcore pvp fans will try and make other people quit the game. Like even if there is penalties as long as it's possible to grief new players, they will do it until it kills the game.

And Gank Bus. And anyone big enough to be a problem. Sorcerer has always been a big RMT’er, but at least in ArcheAge, thats not against the rules if done using APEX. There’s a 9 page post on the forums where people are speculating Sorcerer’s morality. People are actually saying that he infiltrated their guild to break it up from the inside, thus increasing his numbers. There are also claims in this thread that he was banned from Lineage 2 for e-raping a character. Sorcerer denies this. It’s as if he’s a Mini-Mittani. I dug around a little bit and it looks like SharifTheWhite, clan leader of TheWhiteOrder in Lineage 2 was in fact banned for some reason. Some alleged that SharifTheWhite used bots, as did many in his clan. In any case he seemed to be quite hated by a number of people. There is a video on youtube from alpha of a character in The White Order guild named SharifTheWhite being kidnapped. Does this mean that SharifTheWhite and Sorcerer are the same guy? In the video Sharif was AFK fishing and someone on the video commented that AFK fishing is “…considered botting by most of the community”. Is it really? Claims there won't be RMT in his game btw lmfao.

Ashes is currently being designed from the top up. Intrepid are looking at the game they want top end players to have, and then stripping portions of it out in the name of "exclusivity" and stating that anyone that wants those things without working for them are wanting "participation trophies".Steven is doing this because that has always been his perspective of MMO's. It has also been the more senior members of his guilds perspective - because they just do what ever Steven says. The problem is, it isn't the senior members of guilds that pay for the games subscriptions. It is everyone else.As some point Intrepid will need to look at the game from the perspective of the casual player. When they do, they will realize they have fucked up.When they realize that, the game will change. The only question is - will they realize this before or after release?Basically, Intrepid are trying to build the roof before they build the foundation, and completely disregarding the experience of the majority of the players they'll be asking for a monthly stipend.
New World already stole the entire design from AoC according to Steven and it failed so lmao.

I don't know why I'm still paying attention to this game after 6 years, honestly...I guess the class system holds a lot of promise, for unique and flavorful gameplay. And the story arcs sound interesting. I wanna see how they unfold according to the whims of the community.Maybe it's the promise of a complete and complex game, more than just two gimmick mechanics stapled onto a generic "RPG". Same reason people have been enamored with Baldur's Gate 3. There's so much potential and creativity surrounding it.Also, I've done enough quests, looted enough gear, and grinded enough levels for a lifetime already (and I'm not that old). It sounds nice to work towards other goals like node progression or a freehold. Especially since those things aren't just meaningless numbers or decorations. I'll admit, it's not healthy, but I play MMOs partially for the sense of pride in accomplishing dumb video game tasks. And AoC offers a lot of opportunities for that. Pride in your character/build (since it's supposedly not cookie-cutter). Pride in your node/guild/community. Pride in your artisan mastery and products (since it's so important to the economy). Pride in the player/community stories you help create. Not to mention all the PvP-focused "prides".But anyways, despite all that wishful thinking, I'll probably burn-out on the game pretty fast because of the heavy PvP and competition. Hopefully it'll still be fun to watch content creators. Ya know, the ones who will have all the power and sway over most of the features in the game. There is *so much* potential in this game, but Intrepid look determined to not realize 90% of it.
