>What is TTS
Tabletop Simulator is a physics sandbox game meant to be used to play board games online, you can find almost any board game for free in the Steam Workshop, or even create your own!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/286160/Tabletop_Simulator/

Hosting is as easy as just opening a lobby and getting the game's workshop item. Post your favorite board games, discuss and play with other anons. Find games in the Workshop (https://steamcommunity.com/app/286160/workshop/) and discuss/host your favorite games!

Here's a list of what has been Hosted/Played since the start of these threads.
>>
>>669301
She really can’t be your primary damage.
>>
>>669267
Yea its bad, but its good that it got competition, considering they did kneel to tranny shit. If TTS ever dies, there's a place to run.
>>
>>669307
I don’t really see it as kneeling. Kneeling would have been to go “sure talk about your infected axe wounds as much as you’d like”.
Instead they just went fuck it and shut it down.
>>
>>669309
They payed money to a scam tranny institution as "We're sorry" and fired the mod who enforced the rules.
So yea, they pretty much did kneel, but razed the ground so that it won't happen again.
>>
>>669256
Pretty heavy game to learn. I tried watching a youtube video about it to join the room, but seems a lot more complex than battlecon or exceed

>>669307
Considering their oddly staunch refusal to touch Steam workshop, I can only suspect that they have some kind of partnership with that mod.io site. Shame.
>>
>>669314
The basic rules are simple to grasp, but learning what to expect from certain characters on a deeper level than "this one hits hard from close range" will require at least few sessions. Not that I'm complaining.
>>
>>669314
It’s more complex than Exceed but not NEARLY as bad as BattleCON.
You don’t go into mindgame hell with SA.
>>
>>669267
>doesn't have Workshop
I wouldn't use this as being an on-principle negative. The Workshop is frankly hot dog shit most of the time, and there's a lot of games where I'd be absolutely fucking ecstatic for something like mod.io to be the default auto-mod-download-thingy. The only major issue I have is that its value is lessened by TTPG being exclusive to Steam on PC--although I must stress LESSENED and not outright removed, as the Workshop's shittiness has pushed me to use third-party sites in the past for not just Steam exclusives, but even Valve's first-party games (looking at you, Left 4 Dead 2, you absolute stinking pile of shit of a Workshop implementation that constantly tries to kill itself, taking dozens of GBs-worth of mod files in the process).

It just means the onus is on TTPG's devs to create a DRM-Free client, or at least publish the game on competitors and DRM-Lite platforms (i.e. DRM-Free GOG but requiring Galaxy for multiplayer)

Actually, now that I'm looking at it, I think she can be your source of primary damage. She has a throughout attack that gets +1/+1 when the other player took aura damage on the turn, so if you play a trap from discard and then that as your turn thats a potential 2/2 into a 4/3.
Thats a lot of damage.

As someone with only 3e, MoM and LCG experience. Pretty fun. I can see the appeal why people defend 2e over 3e. going actually in the portals and then closing them is a lot more thematically interesting than hurrying over the board and removing doom tokens. Though i also like the more story oriented approach of 3e. Though replayability kinda suffers in that one if you played scenarios before.

How the final board would have gone after blue won. The next board with have 3 coastal city sites at the very beginning, so movement would be much easier early game.

A bit tiresome for sure, especially teaching it, but I think this game can get better if the players know the mechanics from the get go and we actually use the citizenship mechanic more effecitvely.

This game is one or two expansions away from potentially being great. Feels too vanilla.

Also, actually remembering to check the wincon.
>>
>>671345
>it gets better after 500 hours

Is there a board game that plays like an MMO? Testament emulates the raiding part but not the going all around the map killing 10 pigs because some faggot told you to.
>>
>>671350
I wouldn't say 500 hours. I was checking the deck that we'd use on the next game there and it had new cards because the main deck for the game has 52 cards, but there's over 100 cards that aren't added to the game straight up and change the deck according to who wins.

So in that example up there, A blue exile won through conquest and had a Discord type card as its main adviser. The new game started with the places he conquered in the previous game as the base tiles for the chancellor character, his denizens still attached to the places he conquered and the deck now has more cards of the type he used "the most" in the previous game, but now the other players can use it against him. I can see this game being good if you have a consistent play group, but underwhelming with randos not interested in the more "story driven" parts of the game. Certainly not that interesting when we were all just typing to each other.

I can see the potential here. I'm not going to say it's great or anything, but it can be good.
>>
>>671350
Are you implying MMOs EVER get better?

Mage Knight has you going around questing shit, but there's no "kill 10 enemies and bring their shit to me" quests.
conversely, Twilight Imperium is full of "pay 10 trade goods" quests read: objectives but it plays nothing like a MMORPG and is closer to a map painter ala Stellaris or any other 4X game

Alright, follow-up time: it's been ever so slightly confusing trying to figure out what's actually the most relevant information, due to the game getting a new edition this year, but here's the rundown
Basic Tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuhwSma960Y
Rules:
https://images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/6c/ed/6ced3492-42fb-43c9-b542-0528cd19cff9/swz01_rulebookweb.pdf

Basically, the video shows core concepts, but the cards are outdated due to being First Edition. The rulebook is the last one published by FFG, which is Second Edition. I'd say the most important info is on Pages 12, 14, 17, and 18, which mostly just detail new tokens and actions, while the rest is largely the same. Now, there is another edition, 2.5, but the way it impacts squad building seems pretty dang gay, so in the interest of having more nameless joes on the field to squeeze points, we'll be sticking with 2.0 if no one has any objections.

As for building squads for those joes, here is the old 2.0 squad builder
https://raithos.github.io
I'd say we just stick with standard 200pts and Imperials vs Rebels. If people want, we can also just roll with whatever the randomize button gives, to further cut down on time preparing and keep everyone equally in the dark. I dunno when I'll be hosting this, but I'll try to shoot for sometime around 10PM UTC in the coming days.

Thanks for hosting and teaching - wanna play it a couple more times before forming an opinion. Not as complicated as it seems but definitely one of those games where the winning strategies are nebulous at first. If there's one thing I'll say is hilarious absurd, though, is how obtuse the campaign targets are made by the graphic design; artifacts and banners are a complete different target from player pawns and sites yet they don't even have a place on the board/portrait, goddamn.

Is it really THAT bad? Also we can play anything else if you nerds not feeling the GH vibe.
>>
>>671842
it's not bad but it does drag on for too long and the balance is all kinds of whack
first mission you must focus on the objective, as you can and will run out of stamina trying to kill all enemies you see; getting more money lets you level up more letting you get an even bigger share of money next mission creating an unstoppable snowball; and so on.
plus i personally don't like legacy games because what good is a game if you need to play it 7 times in a row with the same people to get the "true" experience?

Are we playing with Extender or Hyperspace format? Quick google search says Extended is the "everything legal" format, while Hyperspace is more limited to vary up the meta. From what I was able to tell it's also something introduced before the 2.5 changes.
Quick glance at the Imperial list Extended has 16 ships vs Hyperspace 9 and a lot more pilots to choose (some of the Hyperspace ones don't even have a different pilot like the Decimator).
>>

Extended will be the way to go. Maximum player choice and point squeezing is the name of the game in my book.

I found some tabletop games on Japanese twitter and booth.pm with udonarium integration, but most of them are just CoC scenarios. And the integration is just bunch of png zipped along with a xml files. I don't see any reason using it over TTS unless you absolutely hate steam or unity.

There are guide cards here but it has a different localization, outdated card balance changes, and missing characters. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2470000856
To use the deckbuilding recommendations on this, you simply pick one character to use the set of red flower cards and the other character the blue.

I looked into 4 player Sakura Arms matches and there is a way, but it's not optimal.
There are 4,6 and 8 player tournament modes (one is for 2,4,6,8 and the other for 2,4 players). They're both draft modes including random cards rather than specific megumi (at least to my understanding). Technically we could play it on TTS since all the cards and bonus player boards are there (though you have to load them separately), but the script doesn't support that. Resetting the boards isn't a problem as that's just moving the petals around to their starting positions. The table would have to be stretched to allow more players and additional boards would have to be spawned by host. Personally I'd still save that for later as it requires each player to have good understanding of synergies and card effects to make an effective deck out of completely random cards, not to mention making sure you have all the optional boards/cards you need.

Couldn't get to sleep, so I did work on it some more. Saving playlists as records is mostly done. Right now you enter the playlist like before (Name, URL on next line, repeat) and can then click "Create Playlist Disc," which spawns the record with the text version of the playlist saved inside of it. You then put it inside the disc player and click Load From Disc, which then loads that playlist back into the text box so you can edit it and what not or just click Add/Replace to get it into the playlist. The disc player can hold multiple discs at a time, since it's set to only accept properly tagged discs, and you click through them. The only downsides are that I don't plan on allowing players to overwrite existing discs, just to be safe, and I'm on the fence about adding a text box for naming, so right now you gotta do it yourself (it spawns with the placeholder name).

If I find the time, I'll also try to add a button onto each discs that will list the contained musak when clicked.
>>
>>673807
This seems super useful.
How hard would it be to change the record player model to something else?
Can everyone mess around with the ingame menu or is it host only?
I assume this still doesn't preload all the tracks?
>>
>>669221
Everyone knows about TTS why would you need to shill it on 4chan?
>>
>>673846
>How hard would it be to change the record player model
Not very hard, as long as you have access to the Custom Object menu. The only thing that would be changed by switching out the model is the fact that the offset isn't dynamic right now, but that wouldn't be hard to fix if it was a big demand
>can everyone mess around with the menu
They would right now, unless TTS has some internal guards on the scripting. I can easily toss in a toggle that only the Host can use, which would switch between whether Promotion is required to fuck around with it, but that's the closest I can get; there doesn't seem to be anything to call for the Music permission itself
>this still doesn't preload all the tracks
No, it shouldn't as is. That being said, I could try to make that utility sometime in the future. It'd be relatively simple, just like if MusicPlayer.Loaded == true then MusicPlayer.setCurrentAudioclip(songs[i]) or some shit, but it'd just be something else other than this to do.
>>
>>673895
Having them preload as an option would be great, currently if you have just 1 player from down under or somewhere else with just as shit internet it can cause minute long pauses between songs for everyone.
Having a playlist as a disk also is great, I can better organize my god who knows how long playlists.
If there are 3 discs with different playlists in the thing, how easy would it be to have it play a specific track from disc 2 for example?
>>

Playlist Loader has been updated.
Add to Playlist is now possible. It seems to still keep the active song index without much trouble, so people can now add songs in bulk without interrupting the current song or having to append to a giant text wall. Save as Disc and Load from Disc is now possible, so you should be able to save them as objects in-game without much trouble. You can also slam multiple discs at a time into player and then navigate between them through the controls. Lemme know if any of this borks out in any way; it should all be fine, but I only really test what I'm looking for, you know.

The only current to-do is to change the prints to per-player broadcasts, so those
>Remember to change the placeholder name
>No Songs/Disc Detected
messages won't clog up the text box and will only show up for the clicker. I've also yet to put in the Host-Only mode, but that won't take long and I'll have it done whenever I next waddle into the editor.

Other than that, there's some small stuff, like maybe adding a button that appends to the text field with a disc load instead of replacing it, and I want to see if I can edit the InputField element so that it more clearly divides up the songs, but right now it looks like there isn't much way to do it without sacrificing the quick dump nature of the tool (or spending 3 hours making spaghetti just to add color banding n' shit)

>>673909
Sorry for missing the rest of the post, I kinda just skimmed and assume it was just more about preloading. Anyways, as far as pulling a specific track, the best route right now is to just Load Disc, cut out the other songs, and then click Add to Playlist. It's not the best, but I can't really think of a way to add specific loading without overhauling the interface, but who knows, I might do that later down the line.

shame we still don't have any 2v2 table made yet. But maybe that will change soon, who knows.
>>
>>674596
It's not the table that's the problem, it's the fact there's no official (or unnoficial AFAIK) 2v2 mode. Some anon would need to make one (and all the playtesting games and balance changes that would ensue).
>>
>>674319
>chronological list
For someone new, the order of the games has no value.
If they instead were separated into categories, even if they were soft categories like "vm original", "classic games", "versus" etc, it would been much better for someone new.
>>
>>674505
Did another quick patch
+Name field added to the UI, so you can name the disc before it spawns
+"No Songs/Disc Created" SHOULD now quietly broadcast to the player who clicked the buttons, sadly still outputs to their game log, but what can you do
+Promoted Mode added. Dunno if it works for sure, but it SHOULD disable the input UI for anyone who doesn't have admin-level permissions (Host/Promoted)
+Replacing a playlist now sets the index to the final song. This won't cancel the currently playing song or anything; instead, it allows the music player to automatically "loop" back to the first song of the new playlist
+Adding a disc to the loader now properly displays its name without having to click a button first. Placeholder names are now displayed for the truly nameless discs (nil values), and the disc index changes to the most recently inserted disc (i.e. name shows up, will be loaded if you hit Load from Disc)

There is minor stuff, like setting the playlist index to adjust if you add to a replaced playlists before it loops, and there's bigger stuff like adding a Display Playlist button to individual discs, but as far as the player goes, it SHOULD be pretty much done. Lemme know if anything else should be added.

Not to continue mentioning it, but new Playlist Loader update will bork old playlist discs due to the spaghetti way I pull the info from them. Best workaround is to just load the list via the old player and paste it somewhere before making a disc with the new one. On the plus side, it's got playlist listing on the discs themselves now, so that'll be the last about it for a while

There are 2 of each season for each spirit card.
You can absolutely pay attention to what card was shown and check the season when it's later played, but at that point you usually already know it thanks to Eiki being in the game.
Eiki completely changes things around because of how absolute her results are.

that looks... kinda interesting. though how would forward and backward work? If you forward and would remove a token from your half you reduce distance to both enemies if i understand your idea of teams correctly.
If there are no tokens on your board half and you remove it from an enemies' side you only reduce distance to that enemy.
But you also reduce distance between that enemy and your partner potentially fucking him up if he's more ranged focused and you are melee..
sounds kinda wack.
>>
>>675752
>though how would forward and backward work?
actually no idea, in theory if i don't touch the rules at all it works like you described, and you can even take sakura from your ally's half of distance to fully screw him up (or set him up if he's a more melee focused character).

I might be the last one to realize, but Reimu her bomb to be countered hard whenever she is in the game.
Her optimal play also grinds the game to a halt and counters characters with reactive spell cards way too hard.
I'm saying, I think Reimu is OP enough to be banned. The fact that she can prevent every other player from playing danmaku while she still gets to on her turn is both powerful and a snorefest at once.

Its the danmaku bans that are OP. For the dodge ban, Reimu doesn't have too much of an advantage by not having the ban active on her own turn, unless she gets attacked a ton on her own turn.
The dodge ban is just a nice way to finish your foes once they've been weakened through attrition.

Not him, but to try to remember from when it was hosted last: the basic rules are that each hero comes with a set of about 6 cards, and on each of those cards is a variety of action symbols, the strength of each action, and a speed at which they resolve. For each turn in a round, the players set an action, flip them over, and then resolve one of those actions listed on the card. As a result, the game really wants you to get in each other's head, as you will always know what possible actions a player has left and their potential speed/power; you just need to be able to predict what their next card will be

Additional bits and bobs include:
-In addition to enemy players, there's minions for both teams that will be "fighting" in the active sector. They serve as a quick/entry source of gold, provide bonuses if combat happens near them, and if all enemy minions are dead, the wave pushes closer to the base
-Players level up by spending gold earned from kills, which allows them to pick one of two upgraded version of a non-basic cards. Whichever one is not picked provides a passive bonus
-In addition to winning by pushing the wave into your enemy's base, you can also win by being the leader of the nth push or by draining respawn tokens (higher level heroes cost more tokens)
-Unlike other actions, Defending is done by discarding a card with the Defense symbol, rather than playing one and selecting its action. This gives more reason for players to attack each other, as even an easily-defended attack means they'll be burning a card to stay alive, leaving them vulnerable in later turns or even out of actions
>>
>>676317
>a set of about 6 cards

A heads up on the Playlist Loader: there's a pretty big and extremely strange issue with the XML for late joiners. Basically, if you are in-game when it loads, it's perfectly fine. If you join AFTER it's been spawned, the main panel explodes and the UI goes everywhere. I first assumed this was because of a bad connection with the first person who mentioned it, but it's been a repeatable issue no matter who is host.

The part about it that's strange is that the XML is perfectly fine, including the XML of the playlist loader when it's fucked up; I had a buddy host so I can save the game, look at the borked code, and see if it got corrupted in transfer, but when I loaded that save, the UI rendered perfectly fine. I don't even know where to begin to fix the XML, because by all accounts, it's not broken. In any case, it'll take a while to fix, and in the meantime, I guess just bag the playlist loader when you're not loading music. The discs also should be fine to keep out: their XML is set via Lua after they've been loaded, so they haven't caused issues.
>>
>>675985
>>676010
Now make them spin while they play.
>>
>>676880
You can just delete it after you load a playlist, can't you? If people want to add more just respawning the tool should work without messing up the current playlist right?

>>
>>676889
Pity its the kind of game where you need 10+ matches to truly get a hang of it.
>>
>>676891
The game is actually quite mechanically sound imo. It’s more that it captures the emotional experience of a MOBA (read: seething anger).
And like >>676894 said, I think it really just requires repeated plays to really understand how the character synergy works.
>>
>>676901
It's broken in 2v2 either way, it's already decided after picks. If the same matchup last game was played perfectly for both teams: team red has 2+1(+1) attacks with lots of movement so they can reliably kill 3-4 minions every turn, while team blue only has 2+1 attacks with a very slow Ursafar and a grab + average movement for Bain.
I believe team blue can only win through misplays in this case.

That's actually not that hard, and I already know how to do it. It's just better suited for a music player than a playlist loader.
>>676887
Well yeah. That's the whole thing with
>I guess just bag the playlist loader when you're not loading music
Whatever you feel like doing to just deload the object until you need it (IIRC objects are reloaded on entering bags n' shit). The loader doesn't control the playlist or player like other music extensions do, it only adds to it, so you can ditch it whenever. I just want it to work properly and people not to have to worry about like
>oh I forgot to delete it before someone joined and now the UI is fucked and there's error messages and they accidentally clicked the Add to Playlist button 50 times because now it's 1000px wide for some reason and they're confused and I'm confused and AAAAAAA
which has happened
>>
>>676915
That just means that that particular team comp doesn't work together well rather than the game being broken at 2v2. Ursa was slow but basically unkillable and there was basically no way for Tiger and Misa to contest, they didn't have enough damage.
Bain sucked though for 2v2, no question about that.
>>
>>676955
No I meant that 2v2 doesn't work if one team just has more pushing power. In 3v3 it would be a lot easier to manage pushes so one team can't win based on theoretical pushing power alone.
>>
>>676973
Oh yeah on that I totally agree. 2v2 definitely swings based on comp more than anything. But that just plays into needing to play the game more to understand it better.
I just misunderstood and thought you were saying that 2v2 is nonfunctional.
>>
>>676982
Playing the game more to understand it better doesn't help the fact that the 2v2 mode can still be decided on pick and ban. You can avoid it by knowing more about the game, yes, but that's just avoiding the problem, not solving it. That's what I don't like about it. That's also where balance problems ensue.
>>
>>677001
I'm not sure how you're supposed to solve that problem though in a game where every character is unique. At lower player counts certain character deficiencies become more readily apparent.
>>
>>677001
While the game would certainly be more balanced around 3vs3, this is the fault of all character-based board games.
Games like Sakura Arms, Spirit Island, Mage Knight and many others where you choose a preset of decks will never be truly balanced because of this.
You need to know how to pilot your own car while also knowing what the opponents car do. They all become medium-heavy strategy games that require experience and repeated sessions to master.
>>
>>677005
I don't know and the game designers didn't know. Pretty much because this game is a lot more restricted with it being a turn based card game and all compared to vidya ASSFAGGOTS.
>>
>>677008
I guess I just don't agree with the premise that the game is decided by picks before play even starts, especially after only 1 game where both teams made a ton of misplays.
Sure having more push ability in smaller sized games is super useful but don't forget that red team spent most of the game with one respawn token. Blue could have pulled back and waited for red to come to them in that super cramped 2nd zone and that probably would have been enough to pin at least one of the characters down for the kill.
>>
>>677015
I wasn't talking about that game, I was talking about a theoretical game with the same matchup and perfect play for both sides. I don't need multiple plays to see this.
For that particular game, yes it only needed a successful grab + attack on the same turn.
>>
To think people still wanted to play 2hus MOBA
>>
>>677020
2hu and anime makes everything better.
>>
>>677016
I'm not sure if I agree with that either though. Again, Ursa and Bain struggle in the lane but they'd have an massive advantage in hero fights. Bain's Light/Heavy/Impaler Crossbow can counter Misa's Watch Me Soar when used in conjunction with Vantage Point. Tiger has to pick between a ranged defensive ability and a melee defensive ability, which can lower him to one attack per round with Blink Strike because his red attack is the only other card he has with decent defense. Ursa can't fix being slow really but if he stays back near friendly minions his attacks basically become unblockable unless Tiger uses Parry/Riposte or Misa uses Watch Me Soar.
>>
>>677029
Also I might be reading this wrong but Dead Or Alive does actually let you kill minions.
>>
Speaking of Board Game MOBAs, has anyone tried Rum and Bones? I happened upon it while I was skulking around for grid movment games, and it at least looks kinda neat. You play as the crew of two pirate ships that are boarding each other with the primary goal of destroying the enemy's key features, being assisted by a creep wave assigned to 3 of the core ones (wheel, rigging, mast). It seems kinda neat, but that's just because I want to play more Pirate games
>>
>>677029
Fighting means nothing if you can simply avoid it.
Minion battles can remove the friendly minions beside Ursafar.
Ursafar can't even use both attacks most of the time because of his slow speed and Bain only has one attack. Dead or Alive is a Tier 4 ultimate.
The other team has way more pushing power.
Maybe it might work if the minion battle mechanic wasn't a thing.

Nani? DoA is his basic attack. If Bain is adjacent to an enemy minion when he places the bounty on a character he can kill that minion. He still isn't the best pusher but he can kill two minions a turn with DoA and his red card (and if you don't want to dive, just drag the minion to you with Get Over Here).
>>
>>677035
Oh I was looking at the BGG page. And the fact that I don't think it was ever used that way last game. That seems better but point still stands, mobility creep.

The mobility is still an issue but I think there are ways to play around it that we aren't considering. Using Get Over Here or Vantage Point/High Ground along with Heavy Crossbow/Impailer gives him a lot of range and leway to where he can attack. Ursa should have probably used pic related for his red upgrades instead of Rip/Tear.
Again, I don't think 2v2 is by any means perfect, I just don't think its nearly as theoretically deterministic as you do.

I found what it was. I was using the < and > characters for the buttons, and you have to signal to the code that it's actual text instead of being part of the XML tags. The strangeness is that I actually did, which is why it's able to render the UI normally 99% of the time. It seems that, during the process of the file being loaded by someone joining, it somehow un-escapes the character and makes it code again. In any case, I switched them out for different arrows, which may or may not break the UI again since I didn't test them with someone else, but if they do, just lemme know and I'll just give up and switch it to normal text.

Needless to say, I'm totally livid that this game is doing this
>>
>>677040
We can go circles with this all fucking day dude so let me point out to you the potential total move values in a round (not counting the attack cards) because it isn't simply 'an issue'.
Tigerclaw: 9 spaces, plus 2 spaces on its attack cards.
Misa: 10 Spaces
Bain: 5 spaces and +4 grab
Ursafar: 4 spaces, +1 if enraged
But that would mean all 5 cards! So lets take only 4 cards.
Tigerclaw: 9 spaces
Misa: 8 spaces
Bain: 3 spaces + 3 grab with minus movement card on the opponent, assuming it hits and the opponent is not playing an attack card
Ursafen: 4 spaces, 3 spaces if enraging before attacking and if there's no adjacent enemy unit. If enraged, and if there's TWO heroes in range, +1 minion kill.
>>
>>677051
And Bain: + 5 range attack if there are no friendly units
>>
>>677051
How much movement do you actually think you need? Just have Ursa squat on friendly minions with his area denial movement card and be done with it.
>>
>>677051
An X factor I think you’re overlooking is that Bain and Ursafar both have ranged abilities that force discards. That can really disrupt Tiger’s and Misa’s movement and attacking.
Also what >>677056 said, one of Ursa’s cards creates a zone of control that also disrupts movement.
>>
File: Capture.jpg (49 KB, 615x534)

49 KB JPG
>>677056
>just have ursa not kill minions and squat on minions that can just be taken out by either the minion battles or from his blindspot

That just removes even more pushing ability for the team that is already lacking on it.
>>677059
Lets say you force the discard, and you were already enraged. -2 movement for you, and a -2 for someone else. your Total is now 2 spaces + 1 for enraged basic attack, if you enraged with angry roar so now you're left with this 'area denial movement card' or a red attack card.
This area denial movement card only prevents movement through spaces adjacent to you, so it doesn't protect the minion completely and pic related is still possible, or just kill the damn thing through a minion battle.
I'm done with this conversation.

I read the other thread about it. The OP is also the guy who makes fully scripted mods like Bullet that also has a lot of fanshit.
If more knowledge makes it less fun there is a design problem. Playing it more leads to memorization and if all the players know what each character is capable of, then based on what the designer is saying, it is now less fun.

I think this is once again an issue with smaller teams. When you're playing 5v5 and an oponnent blocks your attack that you were sure was lethal, it's still good as it forces them to lose a card and makes them either retreat or an easier target for others.
If you're playing 2v2 and you miss your only attack you get this round as Bain, that's not "exciting gameplay moment" or "fun situation", it's a point where you realize you might as well be a minion.
Also
>just play 300 games to have vague memorization of each hero numbers, it makes the game more fun than reference sheets
>>
>>677130
Oh man, what the fuck. Part of the whole reasoning of why I liked the game when I played it was >>676317
>As a result, the game really wants you to get in each other's head, as you will always know what possible actions a player has left and their potential speed/power; you just need to be able to predict what their next card will be
I guess to a certain extent, that persists even without a reference sheet, given that a lot of the prediction was actually based on what colors they had left, but I was definitely keeping an eye on what others play to get an feel of like
>this guy has a card that can beat my speed
>I just need him to use that card for defense and he'll be wide open
i.e. being knowing their exact values and actions. I also fail to see how exactly the game would be enriched by such mistakes, especially when the rest of the game does well enough to make me enjoy the tension of my honest misplays. Like I can understand being so caught up in things you forget to consider an opponent's card at all, but that's starkly different from trying to remember their card but being denied the otherwise open information

It's strangely out of line for a game that touts being inspired by MOBA games and being zero-luck: many entries in the former actively give you complete info about your opponent's stats and weapons to build against them, and tension based on forgetfulness like this is just as out of place as tension being based on luck
>>
Aw man, I see /bgg leaked into a comfy thread
>>
>>677135
It seems like the argument is that it becomes "less fun" because they think a reference sheet would cause players to scour it every single turn and drag the game out longer.
Maybe its because we played 2v2 but I had little problem remembering what everyone could do within a couple of rounds.
>>677136
Now I do somewhat agree with that first paragraph. I think diving into a more mechanically complex character as a new player when you don't fully understand the interactions and functions of different abilities is a bad idea (playing Tigerclaw and his simple kit made it easier to understand those interactions), but trying to segue that into "reference sheet BAD because...it just is okay!" is fucking retarded.
>>677144
>being zero-luck
This. Why make a game with no luck mechanics and then to prevent people from playing your game like chess you try to nudge them into playing suboptimal?
I might make a reference sheet myself and post it here if I have the time. Despite everything I DO want to play this again. The card mechanics are clever, I love the upgrade system, the characters all seem pretty unique, and a team based board game is a fun novelty.
>>677149
Not even. Every post on /bgg/ I've seen about Guards 2 has been effusive in its praise. Its why I wanted to give it a try here in the first place.
>>
>>677159
>it seems the argument is that a reference sheet would cause players to scour over it
It's a weird stance to take too: everyone only has a small handful of cards, of which the list gets shorter as the turn progresses. On top of that, a reference sheet is less for building your strategy around it and more about knowing a specific card already and just wanting to be clear. You'd rarely ever want to look at more than 1-2 cards you already know the color for, and you literally can't care about more than a few at a time through the majority of the turn.

But then again this is just preaching to the choir
>>
>>677159
>Not even. Every post on /bgg/ I've seen about Guards 2 has been effusive in its praise. Its why I wanted to give it a try here in the first place.
Thats not at all what I meant.
>>
>>677183
What did you mean then anon?
>>
>>677144
>>this guy has a card that can beat my speed
>>I just need him to use that card for defense and he'll be wide open
while i do agree with the above-posted opinions from the gulag that you don't need a reference card for that, i also play BattleCON a dueling card game similar to fighting games, the main draw is combining "base" cards with "style" cards to get unique attacks that you can't repeat for the next 3 turns which explicitly gives players reference cards on their opponent's character, including a brief summary of their special abilities, and full stats of their unique base and styles. This, combined with the fact that the two bases and styles your opponent can't use are always face-up on the play area, lets the game go from memory-skill testing to bluffing-skill testing, as you know everything that the opponent knows the only thing you don't know is what he is going to play, because there is always an assload of different combinations that can be played.
My first game (and first win) of BattleCON was with both players on their last few life points, and my thought process was "i think i know what my opponent thinks i'll do, so after considering what he might do to counter that, I should play something that i would normally not play to counter the counter; why not throw in a cheeky super move?" and it felt Good. if i were to do the same while constantly second-guessing myself on "wait did his style [Name] have +2 speed or +3?" i'd just default to throwing random cool cards out and hoping for the best, which would work out about as good as button mashing in actual fighting games does.
And Guards is at least an order of magnitude more complicated than that; sure you don't have a weird double hand system, but now you have a team to try and cooperate with, your enemy is now a team of enemies, and you got a proper 2-dimensional battlefield instead of the Street Fighter Street for Fightering that's only a few yards long. RCs are a must.
>>
>>677159
>"reference sheet BAD because...it just is okay!"
Look, I played a lot of character-based board games, but this stance is unacceptable. There is a reason any competitive game uses it. It really helps new players learn the game too.
I liked the game and would try another match. If I gave up on Mage Knight after my first playthrough I would never love that game like I did.

>>
>>677324
i mean, that's how i played DotA, HotS, and some other ones. after a few matches you start to remember the general patterns of "girl with crossbow can get away fast so you have to stun her and surround her" and "big fat man has hook and is indestructible unless you hit him with two ICBMs" but that's about it; and the same i true for GoA2, last time i played it i remembered the shield values of cards in one character's hand, got my math wrong, still ended up getting a kill anyways, and i forget who won and who lost that match but it can be best described as "retards flailing at one another". not really the best sort of entertainment, to watch or to be part of.

Yarr mateys, anybody up for a Merchants & Marauders game now or soon? I still haven't read the rules for Simultaneous Turns or Real Time but for now I'd be up to try the Expansions modules we haven't tested yet, namely
>NPC Upgrades: Adds ship mods for NPCs
>Wind and Weather: If you move towards the direction of the wind you can have a free "Move" action once per turn, but it takes 2 actions to move against it once per turn; The Storm token moves with the wind, if you enter the sea zone with the storm you roll for getting hits
>Location Tokens: Added locations to sea zones that you can visit and raid
>Crew Loyalty: Crew management that makes the game harder
Of course, if new players are interested we can and should not use these since they are designed for experienced players.

Doing your turn while another player does theirs is a must. We could just draw another mini battle area to do that encounter while the scripted area is being used, prone to more miscounting maybe.

If we play with simultaneous turns we need a different system to start PvP, because the chances of landing on the same space are abysmal (phone doesn't fix this, because it's an item, so it would still be rare).
My solution would be to check if any players are within X spaces of each other end of round and then they battle, as long as one of them wants to. Potentially solves the problem with Wilds being little more than time-wasters as jobbing to one would leave you more vulnerable at the end of round.

Generic anime girl OP pls nerf.

>>
>>677799
I didn't play with you guys this time, but some ideas I'd spitball:
>everyone starts with 1-2 normal Pokeballs
>Pokemarts say "Draw 1 Great Ball or 2 Item Cards"
>all Take Item (1) in the Event Deck are replaced with Take Item (2)
>Fly can be used to any City you've visited, regardless of whether you've beaten the Gym there
I'd also maybe argue for players being able to stop at flipped-over Pokemon, with the possible exception of the Legendary on Victory Road

it doesn't. any and every game that is on TTS can be hosted, and there will be players to play it. anything and everything, from mathy euros of Power Grid to the most dice-chucking point salads like Castles of Burgundy, from anime overdose to complete and abstract lack of any theme, from 20 minute filler to 10 hour campaigns.

Changing items won't make the game faster, the biggest time waster is the battles. Some turns take 1 minute because its walk+event or walk+capture while battling with wild Pokemon, takes 5 or 6 minutes, even more if we have a gym/pvp battle. And the game encourages battling often, you need it to level up and it facilitates catching.
If we were to houserule something, we needs to be something that wont break the balance of the game but makes turn and battling faster
>>677836
>because the chances of landing on the same space are abysmal
So are the chances when taking single turns. After Brock players spread apart due to blimp/bike
PvP battles with multiple Pokemon by far is the biggest time waster, and player battles shouldnt be taken lightly. Increasing them isn't a solution. Also probably dont let opponents refuse battle when drawing the "Player Battle" event.
>>
>>677658
I'm just making a card list. The problem with the table is that the cards aren't uniform with what stats cards have, and I'm too retarded to come up with a better table formatting solution.

I did, in the right thread after this silly mistake. I clicked by mistake to send, didnt even attached my pulls. Yugioh is the only gacha I'm willing to waste my life.
>>677944
Anyway, Exceed solution is really simple. This is a multi-state tile with all the characters.
>cards aren't uniform with what stats
Just throw a "////" or "null" where they dont have stats. All cards have ATK/DEF/MOVE - EFFECT/RANGE
>>
>>677961
problem with GoA is there's 3 cards that have 5 variants, per character. so the total size of the reference sheet will be 18 cards per character
>>
>>677962
Yeah that's a problem. Also I never considered just laying the cards out and taking a screenshot. It's not perfect but it'd be way faster than typing it all out.
>>
>>677940
>battling with wild Pokemon takes 5 or 6 minutes
I dunno, the actual systems that's in place should mean fighting pokemon doesn't take more than a minute, unless you're really committing to a big catch, at least in my experience playing it otherwise. Might just be a case of people having to do their battles quicker or relying on the random attack system more, since it's made to be quick. That being said, greater access to items and pokeballs means quicker and more consistent catches, and a decreased reliance on battles in the earlier part of the game.
>>
>>677961
Exceed in the TTS XFS mod just gives you literal copies of their cards and a reference card for their abilities.
>>
>>677970
I haven't the faintest idea how this game works, but couldn't you just set a time limit at which point the pokemon flees if not defeated?

Thanks to the people who showed up for Colt Express, Clank - Adventuring Party Edition, and Deep RocK Galactic. I'd chalk up our last mission as an arguable win, as we could've left but stayed and fight. I think that spells well for how interesting the even harder missions will be.

Game: Red Dragon Inn or some other filler game, then Starcadia if we have interested players.

For those who haven't played them
>Red Dragon Inn
A simple cardgame that emulates the fantasy drinking experience. The goal is to be the last one standing, either conscious or not thrown out for being broke. On each turn, you play one action card, you place a drink from the central deck onto someone's pile, and then you drink the top one of yours. There's a few other things, but that's mostly it
>Starcadia
Basically a distillation of TTRPGs in the form of a PvPvE campaign consisting of 4 (allegedly) short scenarios. Each turn, you move around the board, shooting enemy monsters and players alike, and complete whatever quests are listed on the scenario cards. Whoever achieves the most VP in a scenario wins that round, and it repeats until you beat the Big Bad.

Also I can't guarantee it won't be a bit of a lag fest first, which is the other reason why we're testing the waters with RDI. Lobby will be up for at least 30 minutes

Alright well, X-Wing was fun (picrel is still blowing my mind). Was a shame we didn't get through Cash n' Guns, but it is a decent enough filler game. The absolute definition of a thing you pull out when nobody knows what's to play but you want something fun to play for 20 minutes. Starcadia was NOT fun, on the other hand. There's a few tweaks I'd test, but that crit nova bullshit has got to go. When you can only activate one hero per round, having your 2-dice-DEF target suddenly getting 5DEF+ results is the definition of cancer. Plus it's clear a full campaign would likely take 4-6 hours, and there's better games for that timeslot (although yes, we could play it like a legacy game).

But ah well, the trials and tribulations of trying new games. I basically just threw a dart at a wall of modular grid crawlers that weren't cooperative like DRG/Blackstone, and this is what came up. It's such a shame though: I was actually quite looking forward to it due to being a competitive RPG mini-campaign, and a skim online made it seem like Arcadia Quest was quite well liked, so I'm surprised Starcadia was so frustrating to play despite being quite similar (at least from a skim of the rules)

Here's the thing: Do I go for similar looks or for similar playstyles? How jarring would it be to mix Dota and LoL heroes together because of appearances?
>>
>>680617
I would say looks simply because it's not guaranteed anons who join played Dota or LoL (or both) to the extent of knowing character abilities.
It's also easier to get over gameplay differences for those who played them than to get over aesthetic differences for those who didn't imo.
As for appearance clash between Dota and LoL it's not like LoL is consistent in it's tone either, so draggin Dota into the mix can't be that bad.

still only 2 cards, im keeping that out of spite now because its finaly working.
i dont think you can call it a deck building game anymore. you basicaly placing cards in front of you, the cards that go to a "deck" are only the item ones.

to solve the bricking i had lowered the values of a lot of cards, that were just crazy, some of them required 17 resources of diferent kinds, no idea what i had in my mind when i came up with that
and i also tried that "keep the resources in between rounds" mechanic i said on /bgg/
I did a small "counter" card just for players to keep count of their stuff, that can easily be done using one of those blocks of paper that most roll n write's come with. shouldnt be too expensive to print that

game now has 400 cards "counting the 6 counter cards"

the game works like this
you have a past(blue card) and a current self(green card)
those cards give you resources each turn. you use those resources to buy items, locations and to solve events

so in this exemple, the player is a ex assassin that was reborn with amnesia and wants to start his own mercenary group of assassins

its actualy working now

I've got two games I'll be testing out soon (maybe not soon-soon, but near future)
>Res Arcana
You play cards that allow you to generate resources which allows you to buy cards that allow you to generate resources which allow you to buy cards etc. etc. until one player has amassed 10VP on their in-play components.

>Cryo
In the wreckage of a colony ship on a frozen world, players assign drones to gather resources, uncover lost colonist pods, salvage equipment, and try to stake a claim inside the sheltered tunnels below before sunset. One interesting aspect is that the game is extremely modal: where you place your drones grants you a variety of actions, those actions have a few different ways they can resolve, upgrades can enhance those actions and even gives bonuses to recalling drones from those actions, and the bonus cards you draw have three main ways to play them, one of which has its own multitude of uses in both storage, settling, and redeeming for scrap later

Res Arcana looks like it'll be be a fun addition to the lighter games that are slapped in in-between, like Fantasy Realms, Colt Express, and so on. Cryo looks like it'll be worker placement on fucking crack, as so far my only experience is with Bus and Puerto Rico.
