>release extensive year one roadmap full of big updates>make millions overnight>add one update that just adds quality of life changes and some building options>buy a horse and fuck off>modders finish the game for you>somehow break the mods every week or so with bug fix patchesis this the most based studio of all time?
>>598382I still have faith and waiting for the mistlands anyday soon
>>598382Official content is slow but they haven't stopped development on the game at all
>>598595you say that but they're definitely abandoning it.
>>598902You sound like a spoiled zoomer who's never had to wait on a small team before.
>>598382So did they fuck off and abandon it or are they fixing bugs every week? Can't blame them for breaking mods, the game is still far from finished and they're already slow enough they can't afford to constantly find workarounds to avoid breaking mods.
>>598382>>make millions overnightThis part is BS. They were marketed the shit out of it. They hit the wish-list threshold that put their game on the Steam frontpage. Every sleeper hit rides off something like this.
>>598382my friend made me pick this up againwhat are some good mods?
>>601874EpicValheim, DualWield, Epic Loot, Trader2.0 or whatever it's called, the armor and weapon mod packs are amazing in addition with those previously listed, and magic-overhaul are all fantastic. The quality of life mods such as inventory related stuff are all very nice too.
>>598905What small team? They Hired a bunch of people and have the cash to hire more. You're the type of retard that buys diet coke becasue you acttually think it will help you lose all that fat around your chin.
>>598382I genuinely like this game. But, I really can't defend it.
>>598382Beautiful game, great fun. Fuck the devs.
>>602046>dude just hire more people lmaoNot how software development works, especially in a post-covid world.
>>602046Not defending the unacceptably slow development here but they didn't hire a "bunch" of people, they hired 3 new developers last year and that's it. Also "just hire more people lol" isn't how it works on these kinds of things. It'd just create more problems than it'd solve unless they were to spend the time finding the right people fit for the job, which already took more than half a year with just those 3 new devs they hired.
Looking forward to new terrain to build on. I'm perfectly content to just use the game as a sandbox whatever the devs end up doing. Anyone still play on any chill servers?
>>602362This. The factorio lead dev actually wrote up an article recently about this topic. https://www.factorio.com/blog/post/fff-366Basically more devs doesn't always = faster releases. Look no further than Warhammer TW 3 and their 6 month update to change a few lines of code to make replenishment rates go up. Modders had already fixed it the day the steam workshop went live.
>>602869anyone have nice bases they want to share?i cant help but make lame boxes
>>605277Been a while since I played, best I have is an interior shot of the hut I had.I need to learn to build proper bases myself, I always end up just making a small hut and some basic docks with space for a couple longships. Was making good progress on a castle on the first /valg/ server before that suddenly dieded but I don't have any screenshots.
>>605866damn thats really nicethanks
>>605277Built a mountain castle on the server, and did a big river town for the build contest on single player. Planning some ideas for when Mistlands drops.
>>605277I still haven't finished it as I need copper for torches and decorations, but here's my humble forge
>>606537>when Mistlands drops.lollmao
Any of you fuckers wanna do mp server, i'd host it and stream it. Tried to for people but either busy or too braindead to play vidya
>>607530I'd enjoy a fresh start. What times/zone you active in?
>>607606Gmt+2, i stream stuff on twitch, so im trying to get some people i run dnd games to play it together, since i tend to stay on and play vidya on 6+ hours, i see why not ask /vm/ - most dedicated of gamers
>played the game at launch with 5 friends>6 weeks, 8+ hours a day, 250 hours total>we took a group screenshot in the throne room after killing goblin jew-king>"Let's play again when there's MORE content" >tiny QoL update drops last fall>"let's play again">play up until mountain/silver>burn out before even getting to the small handful of new end-game shitAnd they still don't even have a new biome out yet.
>>607609I'm at gmt -5. Might be hard to synchronize. I'm still interested to play if you like the prospect stuff happening when you aren't on/finding things built in the woods and I am certainly happy to be respectful of your groups progress.
>>607618Yea, we reakon we gonna start doing it once finals are over in a few week or soeraxs#7862 is my discord, add me if anyone interested as well
Making a village with smaller houses dedicated for a specific purpose rather than one mega building seems like the way to go.
>>602362see, DLCconsoomers and zoomers dont remember when entire game-worthy "mods" (DOD, Cstrike, Empires mod) were pumped put way faster than this on.. NO money. no paid staff. it was about a community building an amazing game that publishers wouldnt have the interest/balls to create. i hope they officially stop all support so modders can fully go yo town on it. its a game that has such good potential, but they are absolutely fucking this up or simply think theyre better than it and are fantasizing about their next, bigger and better (uh huh.. right) project.ive worked on mapping, modeling, overall game elements for mods heavily a long time ago and there is no fucking reason making another biome (more enemies, more level elements, a boss) should take this fucking long. absolute bullshit. then lol im supposed to wait another TWO YEARS? for them to finish the ice and fire biomes. retarded
>>607530yes, dont require a password. see, they could have had this be some kind of straight multiplayer game with players fighting each other, but servers limited to 10 people for some reason. of course the initial thought is: "oh well some raiders wi come when im asleep, follow some portals to my base and destroy everything", we could make this a big-brain type adventure to hide key assets. make bases more distant, hidden. this could literally be a warfare game on a massive scale. i have never seen the PvP frature utilized, except when i first DLed it and was messing around with friends.
>>617961Pretty sure the low player cap is the result of the project originally be a technical expiriment around some kind of peer to peer multiplayer rather than needing a dedicated server. I know mods can raise it but man performance drops when you get large groups together.
>>601392he used fixing bugs as a way of saying fixing things nobody has ever heard of or would even care about. though they have released very minor content like a new kind of dungeon that's not anything better than the dogshit other dungeons
>>619767yeah the troll and other AI fix was stupid as fuck. i miss the more direct attacks from baddies, especially trolls which made them a way more aggressive feeling threat when theyre coming right for you instead of spinning around in circles for no reason
>>598902Absolutely nothing suggests that at all.
>>622929couple teaser images. a new forge somehow linked to the mistlands and bear traps
did they remove the giga trees from the current mistlands?I can't remember
>>624149i went to some newly generated mistlands and it was completely bare ground
damn, the server is still up!
>>624149yes, they're completely changing the mistlands and so for a while now new world just generate empty flat grasslands there. Forgotten Biomes restores it if you miss it.
>>601827It reached over 100,000 players on steam before the first big streamer or kiketuber picked it up, there was hardly any marketing
>>602311Sure it is. You wouldn't hire random people to code important game systems. But hiring artists to create game assets to speed up development is completely reasonable. In fact, there's a shitload of companies who do just that with locum tenens postings for things like graphics, animations, world assets etc. Some low level dude could be creating all kinds of random shit and then give it over to the main devs and they could decide if they use it or not. Something like that could cost a couple thousands. Low risk high potential reward. You just lack creative vision. Just like these devs. They don't even know what to ask someone to do
decided to replay this since its initial release, when did they add the suicide hotline banner?
>>605277I stole this off of some anon. Big fan of the stone walls.Going to try a similar style when Mistlands drops.
>>628427looks cool as hell, you should expand on the docks a bit more.
>>628427>building stone wall using medium blocks costs like 4 times as much as just using the big stone blocks>wall made of big blocks looks like shiti wish i didnt need several tonnes of stone to make a decent wall
>>598382Bannerlord is better. But it is dying.
>>627174The amount you think it would cost to employ random artists/developers is not realistic in most places
>>632357depends on the length of the contract but typically its around 2k per 40hrs. It could also be per task or asset produced.
>>603263now if only valheim devs could be a fraction as based as the factorio devs arefuck me running those dudes were insane, i'd come up for air after a few hours and be three patches behind, some of which were bugfixes that were only occurring as a result of a certain combination of third-party mods clashing
did anyone else have settings reset recently?was there an update or something?i tried to launch recently and it took fucking ages to load the main menu since some graphics settings reset and set my FPS to infinite
>>636147nothing out of the ordinary for me, just opened to check
in case you were wondering how mistlands is coming along, don't worry. they got their priorities in order and are working hard!
So do any of you still play together in a server? You guys did last summer and it was fun
Any good weapon mods? Preferably without new ores to mine and shit
>>625746The wishlist threshold I described is something you have to hit is before you release the game, meaning before streamers can even play it. There was marketing out the ass. There is a GDC talk that uses it as an example for how hoarding wishlists years before a game is released can rocket it to the front page and make a sleeper hit.
>>638813Aside from the devs being slow as snails the game is still pretty good, cant thing of any other games with aesthetic building and exploration that i look fondly upon.
What ever happened to the /v/ village? it was comfy as fuck watching it go from hamlet to freakin walled off town along with stone sea ports.
>>639676server is still up, that base got griefed though
Another day, another useless update
>>643406more than I expect desu
two-hand bros, let's gooohttps://store.steampowered.com/news/app/892970/view/6128850732742902908
What’s the 4chan server? I wanna play this again but it’s so boring alone.
>>644500nobody plays on it anymore, I'm sorrymaybe when mistlands hit
>>637251The console port is being handled by a different studio, so don't worry, mistlands is only going to take another 4 years to come out, instead of 8.
>>644477dual wielding mod >>>>> whatever bs two hand shit that is. After trying mods, you can never go back
>>644824dual wielding is lame
>>644852>>game about vikings>>to dual wield axes you have to install modsI like this game, but fuck the devs
>>644880>muh dual wielding vikingsLiterally historical fanfiction. On the same level as vikangz being uncivilized unga bunga retards who howl at the moon like a bunch of medieval furfags.
