Hey that's my line.
Room's back up.
>>
I am sorry but I am just too lazy to pick up my laptop and plug it into the ethernet port on my router.
>>
>>456469
Dude come on now, if you can actually plug it in then there's no reason for a slideshow
>>
>>456471
But the router is in such an oh-so awkward place.
The weirdest part is this only started happening once I re-downloaded the game after deleting it. Maybe Moriya shrine's version is bugged.
>>
>>456472
Where do you even keep your router
Unless you drop frames or get stuttering on single player too then it's shouldn't be an issue
>>
>>456473
>stuttering on single player too
Maybe. I'll try seeing if I do.
>>
>>456473
God dammit I thought you were on to something.
>Where do you even keep your router
I keep my router tucked in the corner of a room between two buffet cabinets so it's out of sight. I can't slide cables underneath them because of the backboards and it's the only place where the coax outlet is. Also my couch is on the opposite wall and I ain't sitting on the floor even if there was room.
At least I can still spectate.
>>
>>456479
If you think it's a problem with the installation then try the download link in the OP. That shouldn't change much because you have no problem actually running the game anyways but might as well try
>>
>>456484
Well the room is up for one last time if you're willing to help test the connection again.
>>
I guess that was better? I don't fucking know. I might be crazy but it seemed to only hiccup when I started attacking.
>>
>>456493
It was not worse at least. Can't tell if it's actually better or if it's just wifi being wifi again, but might as well keep testing
>>
>>456494
Yeah I guess that's something. I'm going to build my deck and be happy I finally learned how to border escape. Thanks for letting me drag you along with my stupid bullshit.
>>
>>456499
Sure no problem
You should still find a way to wire your connection though. It's the most consistent alternative for netplay in just about every game anyways

You could try to poke with 3a when 2a won't reach it combos with 6c from anywhere on the screen I think and is safe on block. Also you can cancel a level 1 default 214 into other specials and spellcards to make it safe on block, another broom ride often catches people and when that stops working the 236 stars usually make it safe. I think it's safe on whiff as well.
>>

> you can cancel a level 1 default 214 into other specials and spellcards to make it safe on block
Aaah alright, didn't realize I could cancel to regular specials even on block.

>>

>Also I can't see shit whenever Cirno attacks
Me neither, doesn't help that tasofro gave her a grand total of like 3 different animations and everything she does is covered by a clusterfuck of white icy stuff all over the screen. Just being able to tell what the hell she's doing is like half the battle
>>
>>476440
Oh and
>So many of these characters feel like they're just gimmicks, I have no idea who I want to stick with
Stick to Reimu or Marisa until you get more comfortable with the game then. They are about as straightforward as it gets. Maybe Aya if you don't mind somewhat overtuned tools in exchange for awful damage
>>
>>455785
I only recently got into Fighting Games through Strive and remember about the 2hu fighter(s), so I figured I'd ask ITT how difficult soku is to learn
>>
>>477120
Not very but it's very different from most traditional fightan so it might take a while to get used to
Execution-wise there aren't really any complicated command motions (specials are literally just single button presses since there's a dedicated card activation button). A bunch of combos and pressure strings require delayed inputs with kinda strict timings which mostly happen when you are hj cancelling bullets and need to follow up with something as low to the ground as possible. Other than that it's not really very hard, you'll probably have some trouble remembering weather effects and your opponent's cards but you learn those just by playing
Well and the game's pace is also pretty fast so that may be a bit overwhelming at first. Nothing you can't get used to, though
>>
>>477128
Hm I see so it is [Anime Fighter Here] but worse
>>
>>477128
Who is an unga bunga rushdown character that ALSO has a reversal super then?
>>
>>477129
Soku's mechanics are pretty wildly different than other anime fighters. The freedom of movement with flight makes it pretty unique compared to other fighters (And it works very differently compared to Marvel Flight or before you ask).

>>477140
Every character in the game has at least one reversal super of some form, but if you want pure unga and a lot of reversal options pick Youmu because she has many reversal supers and is very fast and unga.
>>
>>477140
Suika is unga bunga as fuck and has really strong metered reversals. Wouldn't call her rushdown by default but it can definitely be done
Both Meiling and Youmu are really fast, have great normals and also a couple metered reversals. The former has better close range buttons but the latter has better reversals
Remi sort of fits too but her movement's weird and her metered reversals are kinda bad. She has one of the best meterless reversals in the game at least
>>
>>477149
Listening to general overviews of most characters, Suika and Youmu are the ones I'm thinking about so far
>>
>>477153
Suika can definitely play unga but she sort of switches between space control and unga depending on the situation and matchup. Her melee attacks are on the slower side even though her movement speed is good, so she tends to lose in direct confrontations against characters with fast attacks. That said she has Atlas which is by far the best reversal in the game so if you like that go for it.
>>
>>477167
I'll probably try Suika first, which of the Mega links in the OP am I supposed to download
>>
>>477169
Get the second one
>>
>>477169
The first one if you just want the most important stuff (The game and stuff to make netplay good). I think the other two come with tools that let you customize the game a bit (Ex. Window resizer) and some useful tools for training/macros, etc.
>>
Same Strive anon that was posting last night, decided on Youmu instead of Suika since she clicks with me better for whatever reason. I see 5AAAA 214C 214B 214C listed on the wiki, but how do you cancel one DP into the other?
>>
>>477548
None of those is a DP (623x), you have to do 214x which is her rekka. It consists of three parts and you can cancel into the next hit once one of them connects. There is a decently generous buffer window so you don't have to time it super precisely, but you still have to wait until a hit is about to connect because if you mash the next 214 too quickly nothing will come out
>>
>>477553
I was practicing 5AAA 3A 623C so I read them as the reverse of what they were without realizing it for some reason.
>>
>>477554
>I was practicing 5AAA 3A 623C
You don't really need to learn absolutely every combo that's listed on the wiki. I don't think that's a combo that's used very often since it doesn't limit and the rekka combo does more damage anywhere on the stage anyways (and it does limit). If you are close to the corner you can cancel the 3A into the B rekka instead and it actually limits and does more damage from the same starter. Or if you are in that position you can even do the full dial A into 66A > 623B which does even more damage

That 5AAA 3A 623C combo can lead into some pretty cool looking Blue Sky specific combos, but unless you are comfortable enough to get into weather specific combos you might as well just stick to the bnbs that limit consistently instead, both for ground and air starters
>>
>>477573
I figured that was her bnb until I saw there was a dedicated section for those on the wiki. All I feel like I really need to know when starting out is a jump-in and a bnb, so I'll probably start playing once I get those two down. Does her DP actually get invincibility? Do you DP or super on wake-up in this game?
>>
>>477687
If you already know ground/air combos that limit then you are good to go. The former is already covered by the rekka combo which works everywhere. The air combos are kinda tricky since the exact follow ups you want are very dependent on positioning, but you'll get a feel for those once you start playing

>Does her DP actually get invincibility?
Only if you level it up at least once. If you plan to use your DP as a reversal then make sure to bring at least a couple DP skill cards in your deck. B version becomes melee invincible. Although i think C version grazes (is bullet invincible) even at lv. 0

>Do you DP or super on wake-up in this game?
Yeah but not as often as other fighting games. Most DPs don't even work as reversals if they aren't leveled up, so most characters don't have access to one until they are able to use their DP skill card. They are still decent antiairs even when unleveled, but you can still get meaty'd by grounded normals. And in general few characters have access to DPs in the first place so those aren't very common

Reversal supers are actually pretty good and most characters have at least one, but the problem with those is that in order to use them you need to have them in your first card slot, so the opponent can see that you have a reversal super there and will know your intentions. So they can be baited very easily if you aren't careful with them. But at the same time, if the opponent gives you respect because you're showing your reversal then they may leave a gap so you can escape without having to use a reversal at all, so you can definitely deceive the opponent by choosing your first card carefully

Yeah probably so, i've yet to learn how to play characters that can't just press forward during the whole match. 236 spinner doesn't feel very intimidating but it seems to stop some bullets so at least that may be useful
>>
>>480099
I think he's talking about the 22 skill. It's usually a good idea to use it pretty frequently so you control some space on the screen. That way it can be easier to set up more dolls.

Mother of god.
I often forget there are one hit kills in this game.
Mostly because of how hard it is to get just about most of them.
>>
>>498606
now i wonder if anyone has ever landed one besides fantasy heaven in an actual match
>>
>>498857
I kind of did with cirno once.
Got the other guy in counter hit as he was attacking, with a random 5 card ice cube in desert storm.
I say kind of because he didn't have full health, but he still had like 80-90% of it so it was an instakill.
suwako went from full health to dead 5 seconds from the start of the match, it was pretty disgusting.
>>
>>498925
yeah i say one hit kill but in reality i don't see anyone landing one in the very first hit of a round. even fantasy heaven requires some hits to connect before so they won't be at 100% hp either, although that one's probably going to be overkill anyways..
as long as it's like 80% damage it's usually gonna be enough most of the time. i imagine that's pretty doable with 5 cost cards in drizzle though, especially with a ch.

Hey so is there like a central discord for touhou fighting games? Asking cause those are usually the most conducive way to find matches and improve at a fighter.
>>
>>503738
You could always try asking here or on /v/ as well. But sadly that seems to be the fate of all dead fighters now
And there's not one that's actually used as a central server for all of them as far as I know. There are main servers for each one of them individually, though. You can find the bulk of those game's communities in each of those servers, if you really need that. Don't know which games you're interested in but they are all listed in the frontpage of each game's main wiki, which you should check out anyways if you feel like learning these games:
Soku: https://hisouten.koumakan.jp/wiki/Touhou_Hisoutensoku_Wiki
IaMP: https://wiki.gbl.gg/w/Immaterial_and_Missing_Power
AoCF: https://aocf.koumakan.jp/Antinomy_of_Common_Flowers_Wiki
>>
>>503805
IamP still has activity? What does it offer that AoCF doesnt?
>>
>>504425
It has a small active playerbase but yes, it exists. It also has the advantage of rollback netcode which means even if there are fewer players, you can play with people from further away than you could in AoCF for example

>What does it offer that AoCF doesnt?
Besides better netcode they are extremely different games. First of all there's actually ground in IaMP. And the game in general is much more grounded than AoCF (obviously) but also than soku.
It's not a very combo-heavy game at all, a lot of the damage that happens in an average match comes from individual hits in neutral. The combos it has can be very deadly though, but they usually only happen if the opponent fucks up and ends up in a really bad position (stuck in the air without movement options, hit with an air unblockable in the corner, counterhit out of a bad high jump, etc). Other than that most "combos" are very short (like 2-3 hits) unless you decide to extend them with bombs, and even then the damage proration gets very high anyways. In general IaMP is much more oriented towards careful neutral play and more standard fighting game fundamentals than the other two
Keep in mind it's a very old game by now though, so the input interpreter is more similar to older fighting games too. Which means the game isn't very lenient with inputs and also the game only allows you to buffer specials but not normals/movement options (not with buttons at least). So it doesn't really require very complex execution, but it definitely needs to be clean
But the game in general is very simple and straightforward. Doesn't have many complex mechanics besides bombs and spell cards. It's about as close to a pure, vanilla fighting game experience as you can get from a 2hu game
>>
>>504485
Oh I got it mixed up with hopeless masquerade. Well I wouldve had the same question in regards to it vs soku, so thanks. It actually sounds like it might be more my speed than soku is.
>>
>>504687
Yeah alright that seems like a more normal comparison. HM is genuinely completely dead though. So is ULiL but the people who played it now play AoCF anyways
You could give all of these 3 a shot to see which one you like more. Or maybe you like them all and decide to learn all of them as well, that also works. I'd also suggest looking vods of higher level play so you get a better idea of what the pace of each of those games looks like once you know what you're doing

>How long have you been playing?
A bit under a year and a half by now i think, like a month before this board was created
>Also, any tips to git gud?
There's a bunch of small things but the things that stood out to me the most are that you don't really know how to get out of my pressure, you also back out of your own pressure even without me having to do anything, and you play the game extremely grounded

For the former you really just need to learn to Border Escape. You can also use defensive system cards (coin, hangeki, bomb) in a pinch but those won't be around very often so BEs. Actually, just dashing or high jumping out of pressure can work too if you expect bullets, but that can easily become a terrible habit if you do it too often. When it comes to your own pressure you kinda just have to learn blockstrings, it's very easy to reset pressure in this game which is why defending can feel so oppressive if you don't know how to get out of it. Find some good ways to restart pressure and just keep it going, you should only stop if a guard crush gets blocked correctly or something like that

And for the last point, this game is extremely oriented towards aerial fights. Even more so than other airdashers like Melty. That's why you have flight and you can cancel bullets into airdash/flight. Obviously it's not about just jumping into the air for no real reason. But it was kinda funny that i barely ever saw you use any of Suika's aerials throughout all of those games. Really if you start playing more you'll get used to it eventually, so just keep that in mind
>>

>>

>is this a fighting game?
There are lots of 2hu games with netplay you can play, but yes soku is indeed a fighting game. There are also a couple other fighting games worth trying, but soku is the most active one out of those
>which of those 3 download links am I supposed to grab?
Since you have never installed the game before just get the second one and it should be working out of the box
>and am i supposed to download that autopunch app as well?
If you download from that second link then you shouldn't have to, since autopunch is already preloaded. Alternatively you can portforward and forget about autopunch altogether, which would be even better but not really necessary now
>would anyone like to play if i can get this setup? im NA.
If no one else is around by the time you are done setting up then sure, but it would probably be more convenient for you to play with people that are also still learning the game

>>560243
It's not really unviable but almost every character would much rather use the deck slots for something else. I guess you could use it to make characters with strong mixup even more obnoxious, or give it to characters with shit pressure to catch people off guard every once in a while
>>
Actually, that raises a question, what system cards are worth running that AREN'T bomb, hangeki or coin?

For more niche purposes/meme decks you can use most other system cards, depends on what you want to achieve with your deck. Probably won't be happening very often in more serious decks though

I wouldn't say it's worth it, I use it on Meiling purely because back when there were /jp/ threads, there was a Meiling player that packed four of them. So I use it when I'm messing around with Meiling even though it's kind of dumb.
>>
>>561711
It's worth with meiling because her bullets suck and her melee is amazing, so instead of going for a combo ender you just keep the combo going for twice the damage.

Default 22x? Or Emerald City? I have a deck that uses the latter but I still need to learn it because I always autopilot into default 412x. Using it makes me accidentally throw out random reversals in center stage

Character specifics aside, i feel like you somehow understand the game much better now
>>
>>615589
Thanks, I really feel like I do, I never played fighting games before but IaMP just clicked with me for some reason
I really suck at inputs though, especially under pressure and I feel like that won't change for a while. My Reimu would be much stronger if I could just spam projectiles as fast as I want to or DP at will. At least Yuyuko is easy
>>
>>615610
The good thing is that most of that stuff is easier to learn at least. Execution is something you can always just brush up on with a training dummy or something, especially for combos or strings. DPing in the middle of pressure is always hard though so that would be pretty impressive if you can do it consistently
>if I could just spam projectiles as fast as I want
I don't know what exactly is causing you trouble but if it's cancelling bullets into high jump or airdash, you might wanna know that those actions can't be buffered if you use the D button, but they can actually be buffered if you use the directional keys (or dpad/stick/whatever). So maybe timing 9D or 6D precisely could be hard, but if you do 29 or 66 instead the window is much, much more lenient so you can easily cancel bullets into movement into more bullets. I still use D for movement but dpad for everything else

I really need to find some way to remove you from my face reliably but it feels like only Yuyuko can do that and the other characters can't which makes them pretty much unplayable for me
Guess I'm going back to reading the wiki
>>
>>624565
May I interest you in d-bombs: https://wiki.gbl.gg/w/Immaterial_and_Missing_Power/Bomb

Graze attacks/high jumps are good too, but only if you actually expect bullets after a melee or something. You have to pay attention and remember the cancel chain to find the right spot for that
If I'm going for a lot of melee moves without cancelling, chances are you are really letting me press more buttons than I should be allowed to. At that point it's likely that I'm actually - on block pretty often. Even more so if the pushback forces me to dash in again. In that case you can really try mashing a fast button (usually 5A) to get me to stop. Just be careful from getting baited into mashing against a long range attack, or stumbling into a move that's actually +
Going for a guard crush usually means your pressure is over unless your name is Alice. You can find the right button to mash and beat me if I still try to press something, and once that's done you'll probably make me stop once you successfully block a guard crush
But ultimately they say IaMP is a game that teaches you to block for a reason. If your spirit isn't draining too fast then there's no reason to panic, and if it is then there's probably a lot of bullets or high/low staggers involved, which means you should have been looking for a chance to use graze attacks or mash to dissuade me from going on
Bombs really become more of a last resort thing the better you get at the game, but if you have trouble dealing with pressure then it's probably better to not blow all your bombs on damage so you can have a burst available more often

>>

>>625425
Alright so the wiki says pinwheel is -19 on block but i had to try it out myself because that seemed like a bit too much. Turns out it depends a lot on the distance at which i use it. If i use it point blank then yes it is very easily punishable, Patchy can punish it with her 5B and that thing is really slow for a normal so many other characters can do it too. But if i start it at a greater distance then i may be able to block in time, although in any case you still have the advantage so my turn will probably be over anyways

And by the way you can also test stuff like that on rollcaster with the training dummy. You can make the dummy block and react with any attack you want so you can pick Yukari, spam 623A and see when you get punished and when you don't. Or you can make the dummy spam 623A instead so you can see if you find the right timing to punish it yourself
