Worms is a classic turn-based strategy game with astounding gameplay customization. Armageddon despite being released in 1999 still is getting support, with the 3.8 update releasing just last year.

Game goes on sale fairly often but you can also download the game for free here (all versions work with each other): https://drive.google.com/file/d/18dAXkqtQNjb_T5E5MSqXqZk0xzQdPdjY/
As a matter of fact, it's 80% off on Steam until October 4th and 75% off on GOG.

Game comes ready to play online out of the box, but you can get some useful mods (Wormkit modules) to make your Worm experience even better

>Bigger Menus that scale to your resolution
https://worms2d.info/SuperFrontendHD
Windowed fullscreen is natively supported in the latest update, just go to Advanced options to change it.

>Custom generated terrain themes, with bigger generated sizes and custom mission support (and who knows what else in the future)
https://worms2d.info/WkTerrainSync

>Text to Speech feature that gives you a custom voice depending your name
https://worms2d.info/WkTTS ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

>Content unlock such as Full Wormage and scheme options without completing missions or Deathmatch, restore censored soundbanks and flags, and added a couple WWP maps
https://github.com/Carlmundo/WA-Plus

>Other Wormkits that you might want to check out like key rebinding

Also very important to learn how roping works, even if you won't become a ropefag and play a shitton of rope race, shopper or other rope-based schemes. One of our fellow anons prepared some videos explaining the basics of it

Don't know where else to ask this: which Worms games are worth playing on a phone? Not counting various ports of Worms 1, there are 18 games that can run on Android, one way or another:

Android:
Worms 2007 (2011)
Worms 2: Armageddon (2013)
Worms 3 (2014)
Worms 4 (2015)

PS1:
Worms Armageddon (1999)
Worms World Party (2002)

Dreamcast:
Worms Armageddon (1999)
Worms World Party (2001)

N64: Worms Armageddon (2000)
GBC: Worms Armageddon (2000)
GBA: Worms World Party (2002)

PSP:
Worms: Open Warfare (2006)
Worms: Open Warfare 2 (2007)
Worms: Battle Islands (2010)

DS:
Worms: Open Warfare (2006)
Worms: Open Warfare 2 (2007)

Wii:
Worms: A Space Oddity (2008)
Worms: Battle Islands (2010)

Worms 2007 sometimes freezes permanently when I pause it, which may explain why you can't get it legally anymore.
Haven't tried Worms 2/3/4 mobile, but I know that they have microtransactions.
Dreamcast games look and play almost exactly like like PC versions, but don't have fire physics, fire-based weapons, and probably something else too. Also, you're limited to 4 worms per team and 4 teams in a match.
N64 WA should have fire physics, but it looks like shit.
I know nothing about other games on this list.

mobile and console versions are pretty gimped, I don't know much about them thougj, other than the facg that 2: Armageddon is just a port of the xbox live one and it sucks. Maybe World Party on the Dreamcast could be the best possible thing. Also it's pretty cool thst we're in a point where you can just emulate Wii game on a phone lol.

Are there any other voices for the TTS wormkit? this is hilarious
>>
>>424040
wkTTS uses these voice files: https://github.com/greisane/wkTTS/tree/master/release/User/Voices
a quick google search found these: http://www.festvox.org/flite/packed/flite-2.0/voices/
so there are some voices unused in current wkTTS version. download them to to WA/User/Voices directory and edit wkTTS.ini to add more voice paths. up to 50 voices can be used.
one note: adding new voices will probably change the results of nickname-to-voice hashing, so the voices you hear will not be consistent with the rest of us
for more info you will need to ask the author of the module

Some rope practice methods

>Find a shopper scheme (the one we use is available for download in the host pack here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ttZBKyc-mN7I32okDss8EXwx8lyUScq-) then load up any shopper map and just rope around. If you need more help you can access the 3.8 options to disable bonking (if you don't see the star above the game option settings you can unlock all of those by typing "boggysentme" in the main menu

>Go to single player > training disciplines > crazy crates training mission

>Load up a rope race map and change your turn time to infinite, no bonks can also be enabled

Hello Wormbros. Our board is soon to participate in a 4chan football event and we're putting together a roster of 23 players, so I'm here today to ask if you guys wanted to leave a rep from this thread to be part of the roster.
Whatever is the most liked rep from this thread will be put on a poll with some other candidates from this board and, if your rep were to get the necessary votes, it would be playing for the team.
If you like the idea, share whatever idea/meme for a rep you guys have and I'll choose the most popular to put on the poll.
Here's the thread to further explain what's this all about: >>397835. The current rep that won the last time is "Boggy B", webm related: https://files.catbox.moe/4bhrcl.webm

If you upload to catbox or anonfiles then I'll upload it to the collection, that way everybody here can listen to it.

As for your issue, are you encoding the file correctly? I don't exactly recall, but I believe it has to be encoded in a 32 bit PCM for it to work in Worms. The sound playing well in the team editor doesn't necessarily means it'll work in game for some reason.
>>
>>428804
I'll upload it when I prove it works in game on my end
I couldn't find the words 32 bit or PCM but I messed around and found a different wav setting but it was 16bit. Either way it worked (in the team editor).

If you're using Audacity it's as simple as hitting Export > Export as Wav > Encoding

Luckily for you, Armageddon has become extremely flexible over the years
Turn time can be set to infinite in scheme options, just lower it to zero with right clicks
You may also want to turn on "weapon use doesn't end turn" in the extended scheme options (if you need to unlock that, type in boggysentme in the main menu)

Does anyone play WMD? Armageddon is borderline unplayable on higher resolution monitors and since I'm not autistic I don't care about whatever changes they made.
>>
>>440913
just see better eyelet

jokes aside i'm sure there are probably people that play other versions of worms, but not any that post regularly in this thread
>>
>>440913
just don't play in fullscreen
>>
>>440913
>Armageddon is borderline unplayable on higher resolution monitors
what is this supposed to mean?
>>
>>441102
Probably means that he sees the whole map and the worms are too far away. That's easily solvable by changing the resolution or doing that registry thing.
>>
>>441040
>>441102
The problem is there is no scaling it seems. So if you have a 640 monitor that's normal sized a worm may be an inch across. But on a 4k monitor he's a sixteenth of an inch across. He's the same number of pixels, but because one monitor has way more pixels on it he's smaller in real life measurements, which makes him harder to see.
I've tried fucking with fullscreen and resolution stuff but it just fucks up my other monitors and adds fuckoff huge black bars. IDK about any registry thing that might work.
Anyways a modern game like WMD has very similar gameplay but works out the box for modern hardware as well.
>>
>>441155
I play on 4k 32" monitor and it works perfectly for worms. I hope you didn't get meme'd into buying a high DPI screen.
>>
>>441178
I have 27" 1440p but bad vision too. I can play Armageddon but have to sit closer to my monitor than I'd like or squint. Would just prefer to be able to play comfortably.
>>
>>441216
Set your game resolution to 1080p then

>>
>>441222
just disable windowed mode????
>>
>>441222
Damn how blind are you? That looks pretty good.

Anyways WMD is pretty dead so good luck in getting some games.
>>
>>441222
I'm playing on 2560x1440 resolution on a 24" screen which has native resolution 1920x1080 and it looks just fine. Playing on a native resolution results in worms being too big for my taste and it also sucks for bigger maps I think.
>>
>>441301
Fullscreen they're still small plus it fucks all my other monitors up.

>>441309
Once again it's not how it looks, it's how big it is. They look fine because the resolution is good, the problem is a worm less than the size of say the front iron sight in your average FPS game. It's very visually straining to keep up with the game.

>>441326
Yeah probably because you're using a lower resolution monitor. The problem will only manifest in monitors with high pixel density. For reference my display is ~40% more dense than yours. The number of pixels in each worm is identical on all players' monitors, but how big those pixels are on each individual's monitor is different. I just want a way to play on modern hardware without having to sit like a CS;GO pro four inches from the screen.
>>
>>441343
>Once again it's not how it looks, it's how big it is
I meant that it's perfectly visible, get new eyes.
>>
>>441343
I think you need to use the registry hack that changes the internal resolution but not the window
Hopefully someone else knows how to do it because I'm a lintard
>>
>>441483
>>441343
Couldn't find the exact same post but here is a little bit of info about the registry editing https://www.tus-wa.com/forums/worms-armageddon/activating-stretch-in-windowed-mode-on-3-8-32814/msg276031/#msg276031

Just play really.
Looks like you know most played schemes (if no, you can check https://worms2d.info/Schemes, they also have example replays), so you could just join random lobbies. Some hosts MIGHT kick you if you're too beginners but don't sweat it, there is always people hosting all sorts of games, just join a new one.

Couple helpful videos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtaMXeFRm-s

Also very important to learn how roping works, even if you won't become a ropefag and play a shitton of rope race, shopper or other rope-based schemes. One of our fellow anons prepared some videos explaining the basics of it

>Ninja Roping – Part 1 [Basic Rope Controls]
https://files.catbox.moe/cw6bnb.webm
>Ninja Roping – Part 2 [Reroping Direction & Angles]
https://files.catbox.moe/z1ehxw.webm
>Ninja Roping – Part 3 [Speed & Parachute]
https://files.catbox.moe/zz2bgd.webm

For more advanced stuff there are resources you can read/watch, here are some for Intermediate (traditional-style) play:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olYmG_qIHFo&list=PL4UNoLrgVzPnvMnP0CpjxGXrPZUXYcUAV

Game's pretty deep so take your time, you'll internalize everything in due time. You're always welcome to play with us, don't worry, we suck too.

>Also very important to learn how roping works
Why not just disable ropes?
Ropes are the number one thing keeping me from playing this game with randoms/4chan, since it's by far the most valuable skill. Almost all other skills are rendered near worthless in relation.
I've played a lot of different Worms games with my friends and we always immediately disable or agree not to use them because it'd ridiculous. At its core the game is supposed to be about shooting other dudes, not flying around like a faggot and knocking dudes around before yeeting yourself across the map where retaliation is impossible.
>>
>>458853
There's plenty of schemes that disable rope or rope knocking.
Mobility is crucial in Worms, it's a very positional game.

You've all missed the point it seems.
My primary complaint is that if you want to get better at Worms the only logical thing to do is practice roping because the diminishing returns on nearly every other skill are huge in comparison. It's the same complaint people have with Starcraft--strategy is a minor skill unless you have insanely good macro/micro, since strategy isn't as important as those. You also see a similar phenomenon in CS (although with few complaints) where aim is infinitely more important than strategy or tactics even through part of the professional level.
It works in CS since the game is a shooter, shooting well being the most important skill is expected. Worms is supposed to be an indirect fire game, but in reality the most important skill is using a singular mobility weapon, it just feels wrong.
I understand the point of the rope, and why it's so good, and how position and mobility matter. I just don't think that a weapon like the ninja rope has a place in the game unless it's restricted to levels similar to the jetpack or teleporter. There's a clear best weapon for mobility, and that weapon also has by far the biggest skill cap in the game; given its availability and power it becomes the most important aspect of an individual's skill past the very low levels.
>>
>>459503
You are the only one here who feels that way, so I say this: Get fucked nigger lol
>>
>>459505
DAMN
You know that one's not getting screenshotted for Reddit
>>
>>459503
Despite making up only 13% of available weapon roster, Ninja Rope makes up 52% of damage during the round. git gud at roping, bro
>>
>>459506
Good. I don't want someone use my le epic takedown for clout or something

But seriously, to the guy who keeps complaining about Ninja Rope: If you are the same person who keeps complaining, then just move on at this point. We're not going to change in order to please the pet peeves of one particular guy, especially since the greater community of WA has gotten along with it just fine for 20+ years. Who cares if it creates a "skill gap", we play plenty of schemes without rope in between. You are in no way forced to play with us.
>>
>>459503
plenty of games evolve beyond their initial developer intended playstyles and are better off for it

that being said if you're entirely certain rope isn't for you, there are plenty of gametypes that greatly downplay mobility and focus more on the strategic side of the game
team17, holy war, BnA, and BnG just to name a few that have very limited usage or no rope at all and are much more strategically oriented

it's just a matter of finding people who want to play what you want - which for this group would mean sitting out every so often since most of us tend to also enjoy the ropefaggotry modes

All you need in "normal" schemes is a basic skill with rope. You have 5 of them with quite limited length and only one rerope (I'd be more happy with 3 but that's just me). If you suck at other parts or can't come up with good strategical kills you're gonna lose no matter how many mexis you do.
Also, most people who started playing here managed to use rope decently enough to enjoy all schemes within a few weeks.

Alright, I updated the Host Pack. Contains everything I have in my maps and scheme folders up to today (about 1300 maps for different schemes, organized and with [!] tags for the fan favorites / good ones to be on top).
Additionally, I tried to find the latest custom terrain versions and uploaded them here, you need https://worms2d.info/WkTerrainSync to make them work, and if you never host it won't matter since TS will just download them for you when the host loads it. They go in DATA/Level folder just in case.

Be aware that catbox scrambles filenames and there needs to be a complete match in filenames in WA for sound files to play on the other end. Which is why you should always bundle the fanfare file and the speech folder in a compressed format.
I assume the name for the fanfare is PvZFanfare(.)wav?

Good job lads. Uploaded them to the collection

>>470258
I uploaded them as "PvZ" for the soundbank and "PvZFanfare" for the fanfare. Hope it's alright, if not just say so and I can rename it.
>>
>>470272
these names are correct

Wait, hold on. There's a worms thread? I play Armageddon by myself everyday, usually so I don't get rusty with my shots. Let me at it.

You can only see the lobby when its open. If they started the game you'll have to wait 20 min or so for it to finish and re-open.

wkTerrainSync v. 1.2.3 has been released - https://worms2d.info/WkTerrainSync
It adds support for storing older versions of terrain files under DATA/Level_Legacy/ - this should fix the mess with multiple versions of Chocolate and other terrains. Terrains in Level_Legacy will not be available in map editor/random map generator, but will still be playable online if hosts uses them and will work with replays.
h*stoids are requested to update the module and clean up their terrain dirs

other changes are mostly bugfixes and cosmetic stuff. the most notable change is significantly faster startup time, as data dirs are now scanned in background in a separate thread

It's the best mobility but it isn't broken in context. Most schemes have them in limited capacity and only at 2 shots, can be countered by girders in caves, etc.

Even intermediate giving you a shitton of them isn't that big because you're playing 8vs8 and unless very unlucky you won't get to pile many for a good combo with only 5 ropes for a full match.
