Thanks for hosting.
I want to play here more but I'm too tired to play at these hours. And there only you here so I have no other choice. I wish to play you either 3 hours earlier or 3 hours later. It's 7-8 am here for me so either I don't sleep and I'm tired or I just woke up, so I can't play well.
>>
>>365213
That's gonna be difficult, I'm usually free around these hours. I can try much earlier but I probably won't be able to play for too long. If you want to play at a better time then you could try going to their thread >>364142 since most people are playing there while it's still active

Oh nice, I didn't know there was another place to find games. And it looks pretty lively too. I thought of maybe sleep at 7 pm to wake up at 3-4 am and play but it's hard to sleep with the house being noisy at those hours, I going to try doing this anyway.
Well, I'm off to bed now.

GG's champ.
You may want to use more bullet and use more of your spell cards to add more damage to your combos and attacks.

Re-Hostang for a little while more.
>>
>>366349

uh, GGs, I did slightly better than I normally do. Are you going easy on me again because of lag? last time I unironically didn't notice any lag. Thanks for hosting Barefoot Gen
>>
>>366602
GG's champ.
No, I think you just were more careful this time, so I had to work more for less damage.
Also, Remember your spellcards, landing them can net you loads of damage, specially the 3 or 4 card ones.
>>
>>366607
Sorry if you were hoping for longer play time. My head hurts really badly and I want to go to bed
>Remember your spellcards
I know, but on one of those matches it felt like I shot myself in the foot because I tried using one at the wrong time and and then I got caught in a barrage of attacks and I probably wouldn't taken less damage if I was more careful. Are you playing as Cirno because you know I'm a noobie?
>>
>>366611
>wouldn't
*would have
>>
>>366611
Yeah, try to shoot bullets back more often, if you hit the other guy his bullets clear, and even if you don't hit him, bullets that hit bullets often cancel each other.
Kind of, I thought it was a good chance to practice a character I don't play as often.
>>
>>366611
Not him but i got to watch a few of the games. I feel you'd benefit a lot from learning your movement a bit better. You seem to have a better idea of what you wanna do under pressure, but sometimes end up burning resources which could be easily avoided. Most times i saw you trying to escape the corner, you'd high jump and hold D which would immediately burn one of your airdashes/flights without taking full advantage of the high jump. Then you'd fly once in another direction but at that point you had no resources left so you'd be left vulnerable and basically in free fall.
In general if you plan to high jump for movement then you probably want to let go of D for a little bit until you gain max height and make the most out of your graze frames. Then you'll also be able to save one airdash in case the opponent tries to attack you while landing.
Getting good at moving around is also how you stop projectile spam from working so that's gonna make things a bit easier too.

Soku mod that adds new characters. It's been around for a while now and it's even mentioned in the soku wiki but i think it used to be a bit more of a pain in the ass to install in the past so it was kinda forgotten, but it recently got implemented as a module like most other tools in SWRSToys which i guess is why more people have been playing it. Never really played an actual match in it but it's still fun to lab so that's cool

I couldn't use cards or else it would desync the game. I think I probably forgot to do the profile converter for infinite decks or something.
>>

Ggs
Apparently Murasa just somehow desyncs the fuck out of this game as well. I have no clue what's going on with the constant desyncs but trying out the new chars is still fun
>>
>>370635
It's not the standard, it's just sokuroll's default. The standard is testing the delay and manually lowering it as much as you can before the game becomes a slideshow.
>if you have delay 3+ they call you a dirty brazilian and refuce to play
99% of people from most other fg communities actively look for literally any reason you can think of to bitch and dodge. Real soku players simply man up and adapt.
>>
>>370635
Because the original netcode was complete shit, and then Sokuroll came out and the new default delay 4 was better than what players from the same region used to get so everyone got used to it.
>>
>>370654
>everyone got used to it
>>370654
>man up and adapt
yeah just get use to play like shit, like the online warriors you will be forever
>>
>>370893
>like the online warriors you will be forever
as opposed to what, an offline warrior? if i wanted to play a modern fighting game like gg strive in an offline tournament i'd also have to deal with +4f native input delay as well because the offline standard is console which happens to add 4f
i wouldn't say that playing on 4f delay because the connection is shit is any better than playing on 4f delay because the platform as a whole is shit. at least the former can be fixed when the connection is actually good

Long time no see Az....
Soku2 was difficult for me to set up the first time. I would honestly recommend taking a look at the Soku2 discord for the troubleshooting I did there earlier, the dev gave me very specific instructions on what to do with the SWRS modules. I had to fiddle around with the SOKU2 init LUA file for a bit before I got things to work online.
>>
>>372805
I got it to work with >>370648 a couple days ago, there were a few desyncs which I assume could have been caused by a version mismatch or whatever, but it's the first time I get to connect and it simply does not work

>>
>>372815
GGs Az. I'm glad that worked! Soku2 is really fun.
Knowing your Sakuya playstyle, I was half-expecting you to spam Mokou HP recovery the whole time cause I'm pretty sure that's often safe and unpunishable (and thus pretty broken).
But imo pretty much every character in Soku2 (with maybe the current Sekibanki as an exception though I definitely know she's getting rehauled for the next beta) feels broken in their own way which is really fun.
Thanks for playing!

>>372817
Ah no problem, if the Soku2 devs don't know about it already then you should report it to their discord, the devs have been very responsive and good with feedback in my experience.
GGs Lang, good to see you playing Soku2, I'm looking forward to more of that on the lobby!
>>
>>372815
Ggs, not even sure how it worked this time around but i'm not about to complain either, it's cool to get to play
>cause I'm pretty sure that's often safe and unpunishable (and thus pretty broken)
Unless there is some cancel mechanic i'm not aware of (which there probably is because i haven't labbed it for more than 5 minutes) it's laggy as all hell. It can only be used in the air and it pushes you upwards as soon as it over so even if you use it as close to the ground as possible you still have to wait a lot until you can do anything. I thought it could be usable if I tk'd it but that's slow as hell either and you have enough time to choose your favorite spell card and shoot it in my face as soon as the animation is over. The only use i found is against characters with bad bullets with that 3 cost spell card that pushes you to the other corner so i'm free to resurrect a couple times, but even then i don't think it'd be useful against most characters

>>372817
Try disabling the discord/infinite decks modules, the game should work just fine without those and it could be causing desyncs with decks. I have them disabled and had no issues so far

he quite literally never mentioned efz or melty, he didn't even specify anything other than "rollback games" which there are tons of. no one had even mentioned melty at all before your post
and comparing it with those games would be fucking stupid anyways because those games are in the exact same position as this one: very old rollback implementations that allow you to manually set delay/rollback frames. the only difference is that those games ask you how many delay frames you want before the game starts and here you set it with + and - once the game starts because there is no rollback caster with an input prompt. and the experience offline is the exact same too so that's also pointless
and it's not my fault strive is such an easy target but the same happens with other console fighting games, if that makes you happier

Okay, I got to be honest Gen, I was half assing those matches. idk how I managed to KO you twice despite that though. I'm not exactly in the mood for playing right now. Sorry if you were hoping for longer games. HOWEVER, I do have a favor to ask: When you host with autopunch, all you do boot up autopunch, press "punch!", and host? Is is really THAT simple? GG's champ you've gotten better, I genuinely did not see that reversal with the rock card coming, and the pressure in the corner caught me several times when I thought I could get out.

Yeah, you do have to do some port shenanigans first.
You could just also use the community modpack version of soku and that one activates sokuroll and autopunch automatically when you boot up the game.
>>
>>373458
>Yeah, you do have to do some port shenanigans first
I thought the whole point of autopunch was that you didn't need to port forward?
>>

>>
>>373464
>can somebody with a vanilla copy of the game still connect to me if I tell them my IP address?
Yes, the hostlist is just a different in-game gui for the network options, but other than that not much changes
>Is there a way to keep randos from joining?
The hostlist works by posting your profile name in a public list through a bot so everyone can see who is hosting. If you disable the option to post to the bot (which you can do from within the game) then your name won't get added to the list so it'll be the same as hosting without the mod

GGs, Az. Thanks for joining. idk why it just started lagging like that all of a sudden so I'm going to stop hosting for now. That one round I won felt like a fluke. I still don't feel like I understand how movement works in this game and I still suck at blocking.
>>
>>373503
Ggs then
In that case just practice smooth movement in practice mode until you are comfortable with it. Mainly just combining high jumps into flight, then trying to land without landing recovery and so on
And also, no need to block against bad pressure. You disrespect it and i get punished for it, that sounds about right to me. Obviously part of getting good is understanding why it was bad so you know when you actually have to block, but that round was still deserved

>>
>>374611
I don't follow it much but as far as I know there's almost no consensus at all besides Miko being the strongest character in the game. That's the one thing I've actually seen people agree to. Partly because the game seems decently balanced and also because it's still sorta unexplored. And the mechanics that came along the tag system seem to add a decent amount of options to extend or escape pressure

At least in terms of tournament play the game seems more legit than the previous games and their brokenness/shitty mechanics
>>
>>374624
Yeah, the community seems smaller although I'm sure it exists. Kinda interesting to hear Miko's really good in this after she was really bad in the previous game. I suppose just giving you occult skills from the get go instead of making you get an orb is already a big buff alone for characters that are more reliant on them.

Here you go Az/Gen. My EoSD MarisaB Extra No Bomb. I have N Bombed EoSD Extra with all shot types. Fucking hell, idk why I struggled with Ripples of 495 Years so much this time compared to my No Bombs with the other shot types. I could usually get by with one miss but for some reason I kept missing on this spell card TWICE which kept ending my runs
>>

Nice, good job. Do you have an ExNN with any other shot type? If the only consistent problem you have is Ripples then you could probably get one by now

No sadly, BUT, I have capped every spell card at least once, meaning I could theoretically pull off a 1MNB. Catadioptric and And Then Will There Be None? are still spells I struggle with. The fewest amount of misses I've had so far is three

Ggs, dunno if playing too much Sakuya burned my brain beyond the point where i can't learn characters that can't mash so much stuff in so little time but i still can't figure out how Yuyu's offense works

>I need to figure out that sakuya so I don't get knifed forever.
Trying to hold 6D/8D will usually get you killed more often than not, even more so in the corner. I know it kinda works as a mixup against most other characters but Sakuya just has to much tight pressure to bother with that. You'll have to BE a lot at first to escape
Also i don't know the first thing about Meiling but i do know that those C rings can be beyond obnoxious if well placed, and they eat up both my B and C knives which is a big deal against a character that 99% of neutral spamming knives all over the screen. I hate that thing
>>
>>381888
Yeah, the rainbow donut is good against spam, but since I changed my cards to a more rush and counter style, I have kind of neglected it because using it stops meiling on her tracks.
>>
>>381907
Trying to rush me down is fine, but if you let me have my knives all over the place then it's easy for me to just force you to graze constantly and eventually land a hit or at the very least force you to block and get my blockstrings going. That's kinda what Sakuya does because her bullets involve such low commitment

C rings are great because you aren't forced to commit to any kind of risky movement to forget about the knives, you can at the very least keep your part of the stage and probably force me to retreat a little bit as well. And in that case i have less space to do my thing so eventually you'll get to close distances without much risk. Also, since i'm personally trash at recognizing that thing's hitbox size you may even land a hit into a knockdown, and that's when you can start actually rushing me down safely. And in general Sakuya suffers a lot when knocked down so you probably want to play it safer and just start a blockstring from that

Having a move that takes care of the knives with that consistence is kind of a rare privilege and forces me to play very differently. Just beware of the knives that may bounce from behind
>>
how do i learn this game
>>
>>382067
Use https://hisouten.koumakan.jp/wiki/Touhou_Hisoutensoku_Wiki for general information
Learn general game mechanics
Learn your character specific stuff (movement/basic combos/setups/etc)
Watch a few tournament sets if you wanna know how this game is supposed to look like when played optimally, and also if you don't know which character to pick and want to see how each of them play

And then play and get obliterated till you git gud

whats so fun about iamp
>>
>>383371
It's generally much less degenerate except for Alice. It's very simple mechanically and rewards fundamentals more than use of over the top system mechanics, which is super rare for airdashers as a whole. And that's always nice if you like more traditional fighting games.
I could list things I like more about soku as well but in the end they're very different games, except for the fact that they're both built around the whole grazing vs bullets vs melee system at their core. And also the fact that they share most game assets.
>>
>>383389
yuyu feels like ass to play so i dont play iamp
>>
>>383442
Well she is pretty bad in this game. But she's still a common pick so maybe there's something else to her other than being easy to play. I don't play her so I couldn't tell you.
The game also handles very differently. As in, the buffer system, the input interpreter and the cancel system are all different and in general much less lenient than in soku. So if you come from there then sheer muscle memory will probably not do much for you here, you'd have to get a feel for this game first. But different games playing differently is probably not a surprise.

To grind lvls there is but at sanzu river where you can fight faires to grind levels
Also remember to do patchy quest so you get reincarnation skill and breed puppets with all S rank stats

GGs Lang, I'm banned from the hisouten server so I'll give advice here, if you're here.

The main thing I would recommend for you is okizeme. I can clearly see that you're trying to experiment with Sakuya's d623, but you can't just use them without purpose - they're very vulnerable if you whiff, they basically end your neutral in an unsafe way, and using a special makes orbs recover slower. I would recommend that if you land a d623, you immediately turn that into an okizeme opportunity - place a d214 for coverage, read/react to wakeup, and place a 4A/3A/2A/6A/j6A there if possible. Sakuya's d623 is something where if you get hit by it, you're not gonna be able to do wakeup, so it's perfect for okizeme like that. Of course, you can also use the 2card/3card during a knockdown also, that's something you should practice more as an option when doing d623s.

Fishing for d623s also pretty much killed your neutral; Sakuya's gotta move around a lot and always try to be in control of the neutral. If you're unsure of what to do and walking back into the corner, then you've already giving up on neutral and basically just asking to succumb to your opponent's pressure, which typically in soku is the main situation you're trying to avoid. Gotta practice how to jump/dash out of defense, get bullets on the screen, highjump/triangle graze maneuver around bullets, dash back to the ground to recover jumps, and get your momentum going. That's also why using d623s haphazardly cuts your neutral - it's fine as a catch or random surprise gimmick, but relying on it too often makes you weaker.

The final thing I'd recommend is just better defense, which comes with experience. Often when your opponent throws out a move, that's not the only thing they have in mind; there's a 2nd or 3rd followup behind it that's meant to catch you too - I got you with a lot of those. If you're unsure where an opening is, I think it's good practice to block and learn the followup pattern, *then* react to that.
>>

Who knows if it's genuinely viable, but it definitely would work better if i played more lame to extend the matches as long as possible and get to farm meter more safely. As it is it kinda relies on rolling a couple Three Drops in the first round so i get to set up for free.
