What the actual fuck am I supposed to do as a driller against the omen exterminator event? I run Cryo + Subata but I don't think flamer or EPC would do much better. In fact I'd appreciate tips for all classes since it's the only event that's not a guaranteed win for me, not counting shit spawns for kursite or awful bomb placement for tritilyte

-Make sure you are stocked up on ammo before stage 2. You want to start it running out the gate. It's a PE so time is against you
-Take out the spitballers above you right away
-Dont hesitate to drop a bunch of supply pods. You need it here more than stage 3, and the next stage has enough nitra for itself anyway
-Like the post above me said you need a competent scout, a lot relies on him doing his jobs correctly. Popping the dread at the right time, mining the top aquarqs, lighting the room, contributing to the dread, mining nitra

Stay aware of your surroundings. Every time you fail you learn the level layout better, use that knowledge to your advantage

Why are there so many tryhards in deep dive? It's the same modes as the normal ones but in three consecutive matches where the resources transfer over so it's even easier. For EDD I can kind of understand low level kicking in the prelobby. It's an hour time investment, and a bronze 1/2 promotion usually doesn't translate to being competent enough yet. But I do hate being a gatekeeper and people were patient with me when I first started so I pass it forward to the next guy.

I don't prejudge you for being low level but I do expect you to carry your weight. If you can't carry your weight I expect you to try and actively communicate with the team, because then I'm at least having fun teaching greenbeards. It's the bare minimum to expect in a co-op game. If you can't do that you get the boot because then I get nothing out of you

My lobbies always advertise for noobs to join, so I have a good idea why. It sucks when you're in a position where things go wrong and those new players are the only ones left and they let any initiative they have slip through their fingers. When 30 minutes is wasted off a fluke and your only teammates that are alive are really bad you can see some awful things.

The biggest lack of initiative I see. Sometimes you just need to tank a couple of hits and get the revive in. Sometimes you won't even take damage because they're all attacking the downed dwarf. Instead they run around like chickens without heads until things get even worse and they die.

High level players aren't immune to this, but it might be more rare. New players aren't all bad either, but most are.

This is a symptom of a broader issue, which is the assumption that a good loadout and precise aim is enough to get you through high haz missions. It's not. What separates good players from bad ones is decision making. It's frequently and continually taking in information about your surroundings, making a plan, and executing on it. The majority of the time this involves moving around or repositioning of some kind. It feels like people don't do this because it gets in the way of their ability to go pew pew and shoot bugs

You see it with new players all the time. They come out of a failed mission and ask about ways to optimize their build. What they fail to realize is that no amount of weapon changes are going to make them suddenly good. If you're failing missions, the solution to your problems is not coming from the equipment terminal.

It also leads people to see utility as a waste of time. After all if it's not doing damage, what's the point? It's most apparent when you have scouts that aren't using flares, but it extends to the other classes as well.

To be fair the zipline utility becomes more constrained the higher up in haz you go. There are scenarios where the zipline is the best tool for the job (big gap traversals), but those scenarios are themselves not always present to due mission type, map layout, or team pathing. On haz 5 (and 4 somewhat) most other uses of ziplines feels like death traps. They guarantee a slow enough movement from you that all projectile based enemies can easily snipe you. If you're high up enough you're taking the projectile and fall damage

I totally get that its nice to have a slightly elevated position away from ground enemies and above teammates while firing. But I don't know, I still feel paranoid as fuck riding them. I'd rather have the option of my full movement speed. It's actually why I've been running lead storm OC, because it incentivizes me to use ziplines more

Even in a completely flat room you can still angle them upwards and dig a staircase to them to be able to get on from both ends and use the angular speed boost to your advantage, ping ponging dreadnoughts and other things, very handy to run across the room, bunnyhop a little up the wall, and jump on the zipline and speed back across to your downed teammate while the enemies have to run all the way back at normal speed. Handy if you want to save shields or don't have any left.

As for the ranged enemies and naedocytes etc, you either have to be far enough away with high transversal with the speed upgrade (the one from the equipment terminal on the space rig) or have enough distance up an elevated zipline that you can just speed down while they shoot their payloads (and miss you) and just turn around and blast them then reset to your previous position. If you're good (and lucky) enough you can just lay into mactera weak points with the gatling gun and stun them before they can even try to dump their payloads on you, or take the autocannon fear upgrade for easy mactera cheese. but abusing the speed boost, and webbed and chained ziplines at different angles and elevations you can easily dodge 100% of all fireballs from dreadnoughts and put enough distance between you and naedocytes where you have enough space to wipe out big clouds of them and then reset. If you're on an angled zipline, and you're positioned properly and don't get caught out like a noob without room to speed away from projectiles, it's a pretty comfy position on any hazard level. Just be mindful of acid spitters that can creep up on you if you don't have a scout lighting up the ceiling

These are things I've wanted to do (and sometimes do) but the unknown of teammates grabbing on and getting in the way of your momentum fucks me up. Being able to use the downward speed boost is crucial in these positions but its an all or nothing. If there's no one in your way you get rewarded, if there is you either get downed or severely interrupted. Maybe there's a git gud element to this where I gotta get used to jumping over teammates on the zipline. I guess you're right though, must get over my fears as its too good a thing to pass up

Zipline webs are fun, I've recently been experimenting with using zipline webs as a form of safety netting on refining missions (and anywhere else applicable). If its an especially vertical level with ground drop offs around pipes, I set up a few lines at the bottom of cliffs people might jump off, trying to maximize the chance someone will be able to reach one for avoiding fall damage. This is really compensating for what engis should be doing but it turns out no one wants to use their fucking platform gun either

I don't really blame anyone for the loss, it's a consequence of the hosting decision. When I play that boring class I use 1 fast turret with nukes and mines with refire stubby and always top kills.

His problem was only partially build related. The big issue was that the three of them combined were unable to deal with the fodder. The gunner build is fine but gunner struggles to put out the numbers a good driller or engineer can.
Sticky flames is also impotent when compared to explode, and it showed many times.

To get them all that close together is rare because spitters like to spawn a distance from each other. But level geometry can funnel them into a common spot. Plus the person is behind a shield which helps to zone them even further. It happens

The spirit of the image is the imminent danger presented by that many acid spitters together. But in reality its actually safer to have them grouped like that than not. The most dangerous enemies are the ones you fail to see, firing at you from a random dark corner. So while you might not literally see a grouping like that every day, you will regularly be put into situations that are as dangerous or more than the one shown

Omen is one of the few tests in this game for basic competency and teamplay. If even one person goes down or doesn't do their shit correctly it can spiral out of control. There are tons of ways for things to go wrong during an omen:

>engi not setting up platforms means people arent easily avoiding radial pulse
>anyone dying ground level is difficult to revive. Revive attempts in general are dangerous
>uncoordinated attacks on exposed sections means all 3 are a threat for longer
>tunnel vision on dealing damage can lead to missing multiple incoming threats and a quick down

There's also the natural intuition to go revive a downed person. If the person sucks or isn't a primary source of damage themselves, its in your interest to carry on without them until you're sure you won't die. Most people don't cut their losses here and it very often leads to even more downs

On zipline, only ranged enemies can hit you as long as your are not on either end if it. It's very useful for haz 4-5 to avoid most damage during swarms. If using zipline to avoid damage you should obviously prioritise mactera and spitters. For escort, the gunner is excellent to baby sit doretta and to put zipline to oil shale high up so either you or someone else can fill up the oil tanks fast on big chunky oil shale veins. Can't really think of other specific roles for gunner except for going full dakka dakka.

ziplines aren't that important to gunner's overall gameplan, the big thing gunner does is shoot bugs dead without interruption from reloads (unless you have autocannon) and use shield to pre-emptively protect the team's health, hold position, or make clutch revives as necessary.
ziplines are a tool for connecting areas together, especially if you angle them in a way that people can take advantage of the speed. If you play a lot of point extract and refinery where you're going to be hanging out in the same area a lot, you'll have plenty of opportunities to build a zip network that permits easy travel to key areas.
Outside of those modes, it just depends on the terrain and both engineer and driller are superior at dealing with that, you instead would deal better with the absence of terrain: sheer cliffs and ravines, or permitting easier access to high oil shale while holding the fuel canister during escort missions.

You are the bug exterminator. Unless it's swarmageddon or you just get a lot of grunts with a god-tier driller, you should be the guy with the biggest head count. The big threats are your bread and butter as well, you should be aiming to do the most damage to the big bads.

Alternatively, you're also one of the only sources of true safety. If someone goes down in a bad, bad swarm, you have one of the only reliable ways of getting them up. If people are running out of ammo in the same situation, you can make the space for a safe resupply. So you have to pay attention, stay mobile, and don't use your shield unless it's for a damn good reason.

Dunno I guess? didn't quantify it nor write a review or anything. I'd say It's 7-8/10 dependingly, but I do hate grinding more than the average player I guess. More solidly an 8 now with all the overlocks to play around and basically just the combat aspect of it, due to not needing to gather anything beyond primary objectives. I liked killing floor with its simplicity though, so YMMV, personally I don't want objectives and such other than the fight/gameplay loop.
Without cheating, there is a component of having to watch numbers go up: farm overlocks by RNG, farm the materials to craft them, get the class levels up to promote at least once...

The fact that the game has this isn't some carrot and stick mechanic that makes you feel good about seeing red crystal numbers go up. Every glyphid has some armor. Grunts and slashers have light armor, which is broken very easily but still offers a slight bit of DR. AP rounds help here but are unnecessary.

Guards, praetorians, shellbacks, and the Twins have heavy armor, which blocks all damage until destroyed. This is what AP rounds helps with the most.

Oppressors, Dreadnoughts, and Hiveguards have unbreakable armor. AP does not work on them. The dreadnoughts' yellow health bar is not armor either.

As a rule of thumb, blow through rounds are better than AP. A few exceptions exist.

I find myself running a lot of both. At the moment i've been mostly sticking to 2 or 3 charges, i should try out 4 again
The big explosion and huge damage can be really nice on occasion, and with the OP as fuck sticky flames i don't find myself a need for small explosions all that often. Both are very great though. If anything the biggest downside of big aoe c4 is because you need to make quite some distance before detonating, but doing it while midair, using Dash, etc all help
And yes, you heard it right, 3 charges. 3 charges have this big problem where you only get 1 per ressuply which is awful for any sort of long mission, but if you're the kind that does stuff fast and gets to have high ammo efficiency so they can last a long while without ressuply, it is nice because 3 charges are the perfect balance for as long as ressuplies aren't a thing. I also play a lot solo, which makes the issue of less charges from ressuply less problematic, and the fact i get to bring more c4 early on more substantial.

Additionally, making your c4 focused on big fucking damage will absolutely melt dreadnoughts. The regular dreadnoughts will lose nearly an entire armor cycle in solo haz 5 when you land a very well placed c4 right in their butts

Howhever i just got my first headset recently and it does feel pretty good, less about giving me an edge in the game (it helps more for competitive shooters like CSGO) but more about making me feel better and realise tiny sound effects i never noticed before.
I can't really compare this headset to anything else which means i can't make any criticism on it, but i got the Hyperx Cloud Stinger, it's a mid tier one at $50. I don't feel like i'm missing out in any sound, i just did like 15+ haz 5 missions and EDD with them and yeah it was pretty good.

A huge overlooked part of it is the time saved. You get your objectives and mining done faster, which means less enemies spawning in and less ammo used by the rest of your team. It also means teammates have less to focus on and are thus more effective themselves. And it takes nothing significant away because you still excel at priority target sniping with whatever primary you want.

The utility unlocked by SP is insane. To add a few more uses to what you asid

>never more than 2 seconds away from teammates even in the biggest rooms

Make Special Powder a part of the Boomstick itself and remove the OC.
It would start out with reduced power, but you can take a mod which restores it to full functionality.

These days pretty much everyone runs Born Ready on just about every class loadout. It's a very strong a passive perk in a game where there many perks are lame or bad. There's simply next to no reason not to use it.
The mod was good and strong before BR became the meta, though slightly less so with the GK2 when you consider there's not really much reason to run anything but Bullets Of Mercy

Scout is the only one i use born ready on because of the secondary honestly, or Gunner if I run the autocannon.

Driller has zero use for it unless you're rolling sticky fuel OC and have that tiny capacity so you swap to the subata between lines, engineer is kind of questionable but I guess not having to reload the nade launcher between shots is helpful. Can't see myself using more than 3 rounds of breach cutter even in really bad waves. Regular minigun gunner is just "who cares" his secondaries reload fast enough.

Its definitely more a problem with the upgrade mod on the boomstick. Born ready on the scout is kind of an obvious choice because he's got 2 weapons + 1 utility that always have a reload. Also the T3 flare gun upgrade has the same option, so if you're running boomstick then taking born ready is like getting two of the last tier upgrades on two of your kit items. They way the devs made it they are basically encouraging you to take BR on the scout

I don't think BR needs to be rebalanced though. If you think about the rest of the perks, it makes sense that as people get better at the game they gravitate more towards the ones that make you more efficient time wise, rather than the ones that help you survive more. Also its not like every class takes it, I really only run it on scout, breach cutter and autocannon builds

On separate but related note I unironically think there's some justification to take It's A Bug Thing (one person obv) on refining missions. Just the sheer amount of loot bugs and the way theyre distributed on those missions, you can actually save a lot of startup time. I know its a fucking meme but still, try it out for kicks, you might be surprised

What you need to do then, is create a chain of platforms starting from a nearby wall, and extending it to be above the plates. The number of platforms you need to do this depends on the room layout. Worst case is that there's no walls in sight, in this case you create a pancake stack (3-4 plats high) adjacent to the plate and extend the overhang from there. Do that for each plate

If you want to prep it more, you can create a perimeter of elevated platforms so that people can jump around without ever touching the ground. It's useful because the bottom section of the omen is always going to shoot the ground beams

That's a matter of opinion and preference. If you set up an elevated perimeter then the bottom section isn't a threat. IMO the drone replicator is the highest threat and priority because you can't prepare the arena to avoid them. Also they have to be shot down which means every drone you shoot is less time spent shooting an exposed section

But its kind of a moot point because even if you do go bottom first you still spend time engaging it anyway. So yes it is still useful

It's true that people don't know that. But I think a bigger hurdle is just getting people to agree on attacking a single section together. So many omen events where all 3 sections are at 50% health

One of the things you could do as engi, is prep the area so that there's only 1 platform overhang at the start (which exposes the section of your choice). Prep the other 2 so your platform bridge is only one platform away from being over the plates. Once you take down the first section you shoot a single plat to overhang the next, then again for the final

This obviously isnt necessary for a coordinated team, but for a random public lobby it forces coordination without much explanation

no, that's not the case. I had a chink join my game yesterday and try his absolute hardest to troll us with mods as soon as we called the drop pod. Apparently you can't kick someone after the drop pod is called "I learned it from this very incident" and he had a cheat that dropped fat boy nukes on everyone but him anywhere on the map. There was a cool down or something because we somehow managed to keep making progress forward and rezing each other and ended up all 3 of us using iron will to make it to the drop pod a second before it took off and still won the mission. As soon as we got back to the space rig he started spamming more of those nukes destroying my frames. All of this in my lobby where I was host. Have no fucking idea what motivated it either, he joined the mission near the end and did it unprovoked.
