deadly serious question
mmos need not apply because those aren't games
>>
Literally none. Most games these days are made to have as little social interaction as possible. If you like survival games you could browse the "LFG" forum to find people/groups to play with but its a trial and error process to find decent people.
>>
>>287800
survival games are full of hyper autistic neets with 4000 hours clocked and they only take you into their team if you're a fellow hyper autistic sweat and you have to have absolutely perfect recoil control from 400 meters away. fucking rust.
>>
CSGO.

>Join a random community server
>Probably surf or something
>Don't even have to be good
>Turn on voice chat
>Talk with people
>Eventually add one as a steam friend

I made a few that way, and surf servers are pretty comfy.

I remember a time people just started playing random instruments in voice chat.

Seconding DRG, you can learn a good amount about someone after a few missions together.
>>
i made a post looking for someone toplay in the forum of hunt showdown in steam, he invited me to a discord he was, then i made a lot of friends there, unfortunly as every discord user, they only spend ime threre talking at the backs of every one they have the opportunity to do, ehy ended up killing the server and now i only mantain contact with just a few of them, was good while lasted
>>
I actually made a bunch of good friends when I played Titanfall with people from the general (while it was still alive.)

Nothing will fix being a sperg though, and that's the number 1 problem with 90% of these posts, not "being unable to find a game."
>>
>>289034
I was under the impression everyone who plays DRG is either an ubersweatster with a billion games or a EPIC DORFS DIGGY DIGGY HOLE redditors
>>
>>289112
You'll get some of those people but overall the mix of personalities is pretty good. There might be a free weekend coming up relatively soon with either this update or the next.
>>
>>287849
>survival games are full of hyper autistic neets
>fucking rust
I wish. I played it a few months ago and i played with lots of different people. Did not find a single neet. Everyone i met was someone that either went to school or had a job. They almost never play either so you're solo most of the time.
>>
I tried Dota, it isn't really. I don't know dude the social aspect of games seems to been swapped out for this conveyor belt dopamine grind.

Try twitter or facebook or some shit and join groups for games you like.
I think the easier way would be to have 2 separate things for the game and the make friends parts.
Or at least you could try the steam forums.

Hijacking this thread to ask my own question. Any games for playing with and potentially making friends with chill, older players? I'm 29 and I really don't vibe with the younger crowd that a lot of games are filled with. I also don't vibe with the extremes on either side of this political/culture war bullshit that I've been seeing annoyingly often (I swear, edgy pre-teens on voice chat saying nigger every other word are just as cancerous as the extreme snowflake reddit/twitter/twitch types they butt heads against). My ideal community would be an older crowd full of chill people who aren't afraid of banter and offensive humor, but who at the same time feel no need to force it and are just there to have fun (and to leave politics out of a fucking videogame).

I don't even know how people get online friends on their own. I met all of my online friends through real life friends, with the only exception being a dude I met on the party /v/an.

This seems promising. I doubt my failing graphics card will be able to run it well though so I'll have to wait until after the shortage lets up or until I get desperate enough to buy an overpriced card.

>>289945
Game doesn't seem up my alley but I'll continue to keep my eye on it just in case. How active is the playerbase?

I dunno anon, if its anything like Vermintide then it's just 4 micless dudes sprinting through the map as fast as they can

Depends on the mission type. You can't exactly sprint through an escort, elimination, or liquid extract objective.

i just wanna make friends to play coop/competitive games with over on VC, i truly dont understand the point of making online friends for multiplayer games if youre not gonna vc.
If any of you are interested we can play Monster Hunter/COD:MW(i dont really play warzone, but im willing to learn)/Fighting Games and maybe other shit if i find it interesting.
p-please... im so alone...

oh im fucking retarded i got confused with thehunter: call of the wild.
but the question still stands, why does it cater to my goals?
>>
>>291696
>why does it cater to my goals?
1. You want to make friends over voicechat, Hunt is a game where VC is effectively mandatory. Proximity VC is even built into the game so you and your enemies can shittalk each other.
2. The hunt thread has a discord just for VC, so you can accomplish point 1 while meeting anons rather than relying only on random players, official discords, or reddit/other shit.
3. It's a competitive game. Not necessarily through mmr but through survival.
4. Sounds like you like FPS games.
Not a perfect match, but it's the best I can think of right now.
>>
>>291748
thanks, ill see some gameplay videos and look into it, how does delay work? because i live a little apart from most of the world (south america) so if i play in NA would i be super fucked? (i have 500 mbps fiber optic)
>>
>>291783
Delay is important, but I imagine they would have SA servers. As a burger this isn't really an issue for me so I don't know what to say there.
>>
>>291788
SA anything fucking sucks, if i have too much lag on NA servers i might not be able to play this one
>>
>>291798
I'd keep an eye out for a sale or free weekend then, or track your time to refund if it's too laggy.
>>
Fucking none, real life.

From my personal experience, FFXIV. Just don't get involved with the ERP crowd. I didn't play MMOs in the past outside of maybe 10 hours total of dabbling in the genre, but surprisingly found a group of older gamers in that game when I decided to participate in endgame raiding. Ironic, I know. I grew up playing hyper-competitive multiplayer games and now I'm 'raiding' in an MMO but they're surprisingly all chill and in the mid-twenties at least, including myself. Of course, your mileage may vary but it's probably easier to find older players by moving away from the hyper-competitive popular genres like FPS and MOBAs, basically anything with a focus on ranked matchmaking. Sim racing's also not bad if you're into that. I think the buy-in price tends to alienate the younger crowd, which to me is a plus point.

Quake. The game itself is ancient and not particularly fun, and the people you'll be against have already had literal decades of experience, but those people are the exact people and age group you're after, and they'll accept you after a while.
Despite it's issues, Quake is 100% zoomer proof.

Second for Planetside 2. It's like petrified slice of late-00's internet there. I have a preferred side of the culture war but even I find the relaxed attitude about that stuff occasionally refreshing.

Garry's mod. If your looking for a game with no real objective and just want to have fun and speak to ear raping assholes who are surprisingly friendly, then it's perfect for you.

Not really.
The bigger problem is that most of them will drop out of your room the minute the mission is over.

IMO pretty much any new game that has built in voice chat.

I find a couple people to play with on every new game that I try just by being vocal and asking what stuff people like, whats fun, complimenting plays and shit talking the enemy. Most groups don't last forever as we'll end up at different skill levels or will move on to different games, but I still play random shit with some guys I played Evolve with 6 years ago.

Luck also has a bit to do with it. Fell in with group called Let's Rock on CoD after a random CTF match and I wasn't even on comms for the match. They were setting up lines for their runner, so I messaged one what route I used and they covered my shit. Went 40/12 with an insane amount of caps. Like me and their dude were playing revolving door with enemy flag. They were all great dudes, 16-50 years old. Learned all about them and had drinking nights and all that. We played twice a week for years stomping most of the games we played. So much fun when it was close as hell and the other team agreed to a rematch or two.

I found a lot of people in League and champion discord servers, so that might be a good place to try. If you're russian, Ru server is an egirl heaven, but most of them are mentally ill.
>>
Most games nowadays push competitive play to the forefront. When you're in a sweaty CSGO or Valorant lobby, most people aren't looking for friends (and are even playing with the ones they have already.) If you're genuinely looking for social interaction you have to play RP games like Trouble in Terrorist Town. You can make lots of friends there. Also try joining a gaming "community" for a certain game, like if you enjoy CS:GO theres a million and a half forums/irc/discord dedicated to a subset of community servers.
>>
>>290778
Another vote for planetside 2.
Sometimes you get pissed and you can get tired of the game, but I always come back because I met really cool people in-game.
>>
HALO MCC
>>
if you don't already have good social skills you won't make any more friends gaming than you do otherwise

the bro-op experiences you're looking for only happen to people who make friends out of game then decide to play together
>>
smaller game communities are better for this.

ehhh, I'm not sure if I'll be getting into FFXIV, though I won't dismiss it completely. Your sim racing suggestion is pretty interesting. And yea it does seem like matchmaking games in general are a no-go.
>>295893
Quake is an interesting suggestion! The Quake thread gives me the impression that the game has an astronomical skill ceiling. I'm probably gonna get my ass kicked if I ever play it though. I have a hard time keeping up in ultra-fast games.
>>302521
>>306158
Planetside 2 is looking really promising. I just got my new graphics card too (gtx 1650s), so this'll definitely be the first game I try out as soon as I can get a handle on my current flareup of anxiety and depression. It's been rough lately.
>>306434
It feels like there's less and less of a place for people like us nowadays.

Which Quake?
