Worms is a classic turn-based strategy game with astounding gameplay customization. Armageddon despite being released in 1999 still is getting support, with the 3.8 update releasing just last year.

Game goes on sale fairly often but you can also download the game for free here (all versions work with each other): https://drive.google.com/file/d/18dAXkqtQNjb_T5E5MSqXqZk0xzQdPdjY/

Here's a helpful guide for beginners.
Wormkit modules are great addons to have, for example, SuperFrontEndHD will allow you to resize the main menu and wkRemapKey will allow you to change your controls.
I suggest using https://github.com/Carlmundo/WA-Plus to add some of these helpful Wormkits and also restore the censored content of rereleases.

Worms is an amazing game, but it quickly loses it's appeal when you one of the players is much better than everyone else.
This is my opinion at least.
We had a group of buddies who would play Armageddon together, we'd do silly shit like including armageddon and the nuke weapons (ie: meteors blow up the top of the map while nukes slowly sink the map.)
We also had 2v2 castle matches with manual placement, and other scenario style matches.
We did this for a few weeks (maybe a month?), and one of the guys in our group decided to practice and master the game one week while everyone else was just playing other shit.
So we have another Worms match and the guy is pulling all kinds of shit we had no idea could be done, all while clearing us all from the map.
He got one win out of all that practice and we never played with him again. kek. he was pissed, but it felt like justice for him being such a tryhard faggot.

Anyway, thats why while I have a lot of good memories of Worms, its not the kind of game where I want to play online or with randoms. I dont understand why someone would spend the time mastering such a basic and goofy little game, just to win; and from what I know, Worms has a real sweaty playerbase online.

Personally, I like it a lot. It might not be as versatile as Armageddon but it has a lot of charm. I enjoyed pllaying Intermediate a lot with friends back in the day, the controls on the Gamecube and PS2 felt really good, dunno why they feel so bad in PC, same as Ultimate Mayhem.

It does has his good share of cool stuff too

just curious, why do people like armageddon better than wmd or reloaded?
>>
>>285598
better mechanics, better customization, updated to this day, doesnt look like shit, cuter worms

I do think it's ultimately the customization options that's a deal breaker to most people, certain people bitching about Ninja Rope nonwithstanding
Reloaded does have options (I can't make an assessment of WMD as I never played it) but Armageddon's customizability was already grand enough and has grown to such a scale over the years it's insane

one cool, but mostly situational trick that's not listed in this guide's controls is a small backflip, backspace + backspace + return
it's just a shorter backflip, but it helped me a couple times with getting out of tight spaces where normal backflip was too high
also you can spawn a "?" cloud, like bots do, with "T" key

Another simple trick (tho it's a bit cheaty) is timing right mouse button clicks as you walk. Right mouse click pulls out a weapon menu, but it also cancels the move animation. If you time the clicks right, you can cancel out the frames where worm doesn't actually move during the animation, this causes worm to move slightly faster, fastwalk utility is still faster but does not stack with right clicking (it resets the momentum).

I don't think there is. Aside from the ones that are on worms2d.info and uploaded on TUS, we have the couple terrains (Yotsuba and Rayman) from us and the Reloaded/United terrains nizi shared here. I suggest you pick and choose which ones you like, and as you play people you'll eventually grab them all.

>>287932
Haven't had any problems related to terrains ever since you updated it. Except this thing that, whenever someone joins lobby, there is a chance they get a hash error, but doesn't seem to affect anyone at all.

Aside from that you reminded me of a problem I've been getting, maybe it's related to wkTerrain.
For some reason, a few maps are giving desyncing games, if not outright say they are invalid when I try to open them in the game, for example https://www.wmdb.org/7787 and https://www.wmdb.org/7789 get "Invalid map" for some but still able to ready up in lobby, then desync. I asked a few people and they can host the map no problem, don't see how this could be related to wkTerrain though; and a few others I've seen get the usual "Error opening map" but I swear I had played them before.

For some reason the game sends very small PNG maps with packet ID normally used for regular maps. The packet fixup method didn't check the map type byte and blindly patched terrain ID at offset 0x2C, which didn't make sense for PNG maps. i've fixed the bug and the fix is staged for version 1.0.3. i still need to fix one issue with replay files before i publish it.

>But I only realized many days later, after the cup had already begun and I was just about to start my match with Syc, and when I looked at that scheme, I was repelled. Not only is it an extreme insult to my hard work with v3.8 to not include any glitch-disabling v3.8 features in this cup's scheme, and yet still say "standart team17 rules (no knocking, no roofing)" [sic], as if WA v3.8 doesn't even exist, but it also has the old-style 50+50 hp damage Longbows, which are absolutely terrible. They give anybody an easy, free 100 points of damage, which is totally unfair and unbalanced, and strongly discourages using the Longbow in creative ways. In contrast, every single detail about the WormsLeague T17 scheme has been carefully honed by huge fans of the scheme.

So yes, if Lancelot does insist that it's completely illegal to use a different scheme, I will have no interest in participating in this cup. Because of that, up until this point I chose not to confront Lancelot about it because if he insisted that his chosen scheme must be the one used, then I would not have even got a chance to begin playing the cup, and would've had to quit immediately. But at least now, if he still decides not to allow it, I will have had a chance to experience it at least a little before having to leave. I was really hoping it would just go unnoticed, and then next time a cup was created I could bring up the issue. But it appears SIBASA was not on the same page. (Frankly, I hadn't dismissed the possibility that Lancelot had already noticed I didn't use the provided scheme in my games with Syc, and had chosen to pretend he hadn't noticed. But even if that was the case, he has no choice but to say something about it now.) So now it's become a distinctly unpleasant situation with the potential to become quite a bit more unpleasant.

the module implements loading and drawing an optional second background sprite.
you need to put back2.spr inside terrain's level.dir file. you can also add front.spr for a sprite to be drawn in front of the map (if anyone finds a viable use case for this)

I didn't think the round length was that bad to be honest. I think making it a first to two wins instead of 3 would have sorted us out.
>>
>>293879
Round length was alright (actually, reading the rules for 6 players SD was in 6 minutes, not 7 like we did). I do think that there were too many worms in any given map though, but with 1 minute less for SD that shouldn't be much of a problem Us choking like a motherfucker still is.

>I think making it a first to two wins instead of 3 would have sorted us out.
These stockpiles type of games don't work well with first to 2 imo, it doesn't allow you to get more weaponry and if gives the first winner a lot of advantage even if they lose because they can choose not to overuse their armory while the loser player has to use everything they got to stop them from winning.

jellyworm uses a shitty placeholder scheme protocol that does not send current config state on game start. the configuration is sent to players only when the host manually enables package. so you have to type /enable test when all players are already in the room. players joining after that will not receive the config.
of course, if the module gets an update in the future, it will get a proper network protocol like terrainsync does.

also, the contents of package files are not synchronized - the reason was that with synchronized LUA scripts you are basically allowing anyone to run arbitrary (harmful) code on your PC. the idea was to host an official repositories with verified packages, so players would automatically download missing packages from reputable sources
>>
Explain to me, what contents are synced in vanilla game?
E.g. maps, maps textures, flags pictures and so on, what is not needed to be preshared?

next version of wkTerrainSync is almost ready for release. here is a near-finished version for testing:
https://www17.zippyshare.com/v/Ez3NAj5t/file.html

it adds the ability to play on custom sized maps. although you are able to pick a map that is up to 5 times wider and 5 times taller, WA's map generator probably won't fill all that space. the generator has a tendency to generate taller maps (like 1x wide, 5x tall), but with some luck you should be able to generate a proper 2.0x wide 1x tall map. play around with it to see what works best for you

hm, maybe they're developing their own method of terrain syncing for vanilla?

can't think of another reason it would explicitly not work in future versions unless they're messing with that part of the game
>>
>>305150
StepS said that custom terrains and map generator scale were going to be the main features of WA 3.9, though they are going to implement them in a proper way, unlike existing terrain hacks.
Deadcode wanted to provide compatibility between the module and official custom terrains, but he dropped the idea once the module implemented more customization features like sprite replacement or custom water as he considers those features unorthodox.
Once 3.9 is released, you probably won't be able to play old .wagame replays that used custom terrains. But a replay compatibility wormkit module should take only few days to implement, unless something major changes in the game. We will start worrying about that once the update is released.

new to worms
why do people say rules and then kick
what am i meant to do
>>
>>306481
you are probably joining a room playing "shopper" scheme. this is a scheme with special set of rules, where instead of conventional gameplay, you use ninja rope to navigate across map, collect spawning weapon crates and attack strongest enemy team

when people say 'rules', they are asking you to confirm that you know the rules of said scheme. the rules are following:
CBA - Collect Before Attack - you must collect at least one weapon crate before attacking
AFR - Attack From Rope - you must attack only when you are attached to ninja rope. select a weapon and press Enter key to release it on your enemy
KTL - Kill The Leader - you must attack the team which currently has the most Health Points total ie. is the leader. you can attack worms from other teams, but you must deal at least 1 damage point to leader team.

if you break any of the rules, people in chat will say "cow" and you must skip your next turn. otherwise they will say "ktc - kill the cow" and are free to kill your team, regardless of shopper rules.

tl;dr when people say rules, you reply with CAK or cba afr ktl

here is a video explaining shopper scheme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezNu922KFug
