>>1103204Eurogames are a genre, not a specific game, same as RTS or FPS. So the path of getting good at them depends on the specifics of the game. But generally they're about resource management and looking ahead/around, at what will or might happen in the future due to game RNG, and at your opponents to see where you can mess them up and where to beware being messed up.>>1103545Anon probably thinks games with big tournaments are the only ones you're allowed to be competitive in

>>1104161BGA has tournaments/ranked ladder mode for competitive minded players. Plus, most players want to win, and that makes most games competitive by nature of not letting everyone win.

>>1104230>Doesnt BGA only have small, filler games available unless you pay a subscription fee? That's mostly true. It's vacuously true that each player has the majority of 0 advisors so scoring the alliances with Italy should be correct (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vacuous_truth).It's also vacuously true that each player does not have the majority among 0 advisors, but the rules only speak to the case of having an advisor majority so simultaneously not having a majority is irrelevant.
>>1110008So how was it? And how were the turns? sequential or simultaneous?
>>1110008We're playing Sekigahara: Unification of Japan btw>>1110041Lol, thanks for the research, I think I like 0 being considered a majority tie because it brings more strategy about it, you could let it be empty at the risk of being very easy to steal or every player could benefit from it so it's a pretty neat mechanic, intentional or not, though I feel like that's the way it's intended to be played, hell, I bet Germans love Vacuous cases lol.>>1110046>And how were the turns? sequential or simultaneous?I played it sequential since most cases were written like that, and it worked quite well. Game is pretty fun, the luck of the card draw with the face up cards to diminish the luck of the draw is pretty good, the back and forth with blocking and fighting for majority is very nice as well. I wasn't sure about placing so many advisors at the start and losing points on mid scoring (a player even noted me doing that being senseless, and I beat him lol) thanks to the scoring mechanics was pretty good. For a 1999 game it sure is something cool and feels very modern, it will probably be my next PnP project.
>>1110046Turns are sequential. A random player goes first and turn order is clockwise seating order. The player who went first is marked because one of the requirements for the game to end is that every player has had the same number of turns. It doesn't come up much because players usually players can agree to shortcut to the ending once everyone has run out of useful moves. It's also worth mentioning that mid-game scoring does not require each player to have taken the same number of turns.
>>1110105Ieyasu Tokugawa gets pressured by the Toki-no-Kami and is forced into a losing bloodbath by the hands of Ishida Mitsunari, who almost died at the very start of the game but decided to leave the battle to his lackeys and stay at his comfy stolen castle in Anotsu.GG and WP, thanks everybody for joining and I hope to see you lads soon.

>>1110158Maybe a /v/eekend thread could help you gather more people. Sometimes /v/ can surprise you.
Not even the sequel/retheme has an answer to the 0 question, which makes me think 0 is indeed a "shared majority" because of the insistence of not making that clear lol. Then again, they do make it clear that to score the Monasteries during the region scoring you DO need at least 1 monastery in there.
>>1110116>It doesn't come up much because players usually players can agree to shortcut to the ending once everyone has run out of useful moves. On that note https://i.4cdn.org/vm/1700847963032317.jpg is crazy now that I'm looking at it.Red has 5 monasteries and 2 advisors left. >>1113700>>1113792from what little I played both caverna is easier to pick up, but agricola has more lasting power. Which is why most "play a game once, then praise it for money" reviewers recommend caverna while worker placement fags prefer agricola.

>>1113792>>1113799And off we go after some technical difficulties
>playing pax at all
>>1113815Look at that beautiful reformist north.
>>1113822At least you have some cool shit happening. I played it IRL recently.>first cards are all non-attack cards, so the game is stuck with people buying cards and running tradefairs, further reinforcing the states no one can take>one guy gets a queen, campaigns and then wins on empire victorygame 3>guy gets a bunch of ship prestiges and a few concessions>since he gets all the money he can buy the pirate to murder the remaining concessions and get an easy globalisation victorySometimes it feels like the decks just cannot do anything
>>1113834No attacks cards are very unlikely lol, but a reinforced map means Religious Wars can become really easy to win since adjacent knights would participate, was the campaigner paying for each knight ever campaign? Would probably run out of money soon. Also what about Vote Ops? That's a nifty way to get some kingdoms from a player's tableauOn the second case it's more of a seeing the future kind of thing, need to block opportunities to avoid people from getting a big engine going.
>>1113822>>1113815Phew! What a game! Despite yellow controlling basically everything green manages to be the most prestigious in the Supreme Religion! GG!Lobby remains open with 2 players, come join, we're gonna check another game.
>>1113864Lobby closed due to unforeseen circumstances, thanks for joining and GG!
>>1113845There were peasant revolts with a single agent, and they were spread around different kingdoms so its not like you could do a one-two-punch. Apart from that you had apostasy and reformatoins (with no red knights to speak of) etc. It didnt help that people immediately popped west trade routes to basically max out every kingdom. That+early comet basically nailed the game shut.>vote opsonly works against independent kingdoms, and there was only one kingdom+subject. The only mistake I can think of is that green didnt take england in his first turn (he took a peasant revolt so his concession couldve helped in the fight) in favor of buying 2 cards. Then the trade fair happened and he couldnt take england anymore. After that the market was really poor.I think the 3rd game couldve been played better, but it was a 2p game and one could get a marriage to ottoman as starting move. If one can take most of the money he can snipe important cards and if the game gives a single ship+a ton of concessions its hard to fight back. Even if the trade victory was blocked the map was still heavily tilted in one's favor
>>1113864Not gonna lie, I went tunnel vision hard (not being comfortably at home didnt help) and the opening for sneaky victories like that one went completely over my headBut gotta say that things like this happening because the comet came out at the wrong time are kinda frustratingGG still, but I wanna try other paxes and we still havent done that, let's check out pax viking or the new pax illuminatem next time aye? (not today, enough pax for a day, lets try agricola if there's other anons interested)
>>1113884I see, that's a pretty interesting deck, when I play IRL I make sure I shuffle the fuck out of those decks because it has so many cards lol, you don't see many at 2p either, now I WANT to see a really bad deck in one of my plays and see how can I go about it.>>1113906Yeah what I did was very sneaky but it was an all-in that without that tunnel vision it might not have worked, all I did the last 2 turns before winning was just selling cards in hopes of getting the comet to show up. And actually it would have been pretty easy to block me since I had moved the single Red Bishop to your side of your tableau, meaning you could have just sold England and its vassals to get rid of the Religious Supremacy, of course that's not immediately apparent and for a lot of people that's a tall order to do because you'd be losing plenty of empire squares, but you had a very strong position so I think it was more than worth it. That's the thing about Pax Ren and what makes it so good.In any case, as anon said, let's play Agricola since we talked about it after the AFFO game. Will host in approximately 2 hours, give (You) for interest, this dude's video is pretty good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWuUuxbMDB0 if you wanna prepare beforehand.
>>1113916>I see, that's a pretty interesting deck, when I play IRL I make sure I shuffle the fuck out of those decks because it has so many cards lol, you don't see many at 2p either, now I WANT to see a really bad deck in one of my plays and see how can I go about it.I shuffle pretty well and then I alternate between tossing cards aside and adding them to the playing deck. With 2p the comet can come early and if you keep churning one deck (since the other has shit cards and you arent on the east trade route) you can just end up losing to a victory condition before you can find anything useful.

Had to steal code from several of the now defunct workshops and Frankenstein'd a mod of my own, now there's a screen that blocks the opponent from seeing your blocks until he chooses to reveal them.I also added Snap points on request of players BUT there is a way these could be use to cheat. Of course nobody here cheats so it won't be a problem, but still I'd like a way to avoid it, but this is due to the game's internal mechanics and I doubt it could be really fixed. works pretty great. If you wanna play while I'm out, here's the link to my save: https://litter.catbox.moe/h6nn7t.zip

cheating in a casual match sounds stupid frfr

>>1115194And the game is over with a victory for Ishida Mitsunari then again! First weeks were steady and low on combat as the armies got larger an started taking key locations for resources, fortunately the Ishida player managed to grab some castles and have more cards available for the starting feuds giving them an edge and making the Red Devils escape and eventually die. Meanwhile on the other side of the map the leader of the Tokugawa clan almost gets killed but Uesugi did NOT want to cooperate and eventually failed at doing any damage to the opposing forces. This war of attrition ended up in a count for victory points with the Ishida Clan coming up victorious thanks to the 3 castles they took away from Tokugawa. Good game and well played!

>>1116711Yeah lol, dude goes wild in those, you can trim like 5 pages of the manual without those, I haven't even read them all. I have only 29 recorded plays but I think it's closer to like 40 now, did your group like it?
>>1116971Why do you guys keep specifically asking for that game, it's not even that good a game...
>>1117102instead of trimming I rather have him add some pages to make the manual more readable. >I haven't even read them allthey're okay. But I have no idea why you would try something like making this statement in footnotes of a game manual. Like, first of all you are very limited by the fact you have to follow the order of things the game manual dictates to you. You cant make footnotes too long. And its less readable as the notes are broken up by normal text instead of it being all connected. It doesnt help that he seemed to have cited like 3 authors tops. I dont mind the libertarian rant but this format is terrible. It wouldve been a lot better if he just put 3 pages of theory and historicity of the game mechanics in the back of the manual instead of via footnotes.>did your group like it?think so. It can make you feel powerless if you get off on the wrong foot and everyone is just murdering your concessions and taking away your powerbase, and there are no market cards to quickly get back into the game. But one game evolved into a nice back and forth which I think appealed to them.

>>1120635none of those are fun
>>1120635Im up for it, get one more guy>>1120648the list covers alot, it just doesnt cover the more autistic games, but you could suggest instead of dismissing everything
>>1120651Okay, hosting fun games in an hour

>>1120053Had something important come up so I didnt put this up early. Putting server up now though.Lobby: Strategy @ 10PM UTCPass: No password.Any game we play will be taught with a microphone, players do not need mics though. Our current lineup of games isBarbarians & Empires - 4 to 10 sirs.Fief France - for 5 to 6 players.Fleet Command - 4 or 6 lads.A War Machine - 3 to 6 homies.Goblin - 2 to 5 gobloids.COIN games - 4 chads.Azure Sky: DOTH - 3 chongers.Rise & Decline of The Third Reich - 2 to 4.Senjutsu - 2 to 4 and the only non-strategy game cause I feel like it.

>>1121075Oh, here's the "stable" save file for the TFM mod:https://files.catbox.moe/yu6iqq.jsonThought it would be good to post it, lest it gets forever lost.
Can I use this to play the Resident Evil card game? I always wanted to play it so bad as a kid and now it's all insanely overpriced collector shit.
>>1121907Sure can (assuming the image files are still alive, this was the most up to date one I could find).https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=280629106
>>1121912Holy based, buying tabletop sim now then.
>>1121914Get used to the controls and host it here, bet you'll find people to play it with (me for example), never had heard of it before, just the board game, how does it work?
>>1121929Basically you pick your favorite RE character and they all have "modifiers" that determine how much you draw/what happens when you play cards. Then you "explore" the setting by drawing cards that can be weapons/resources/etc and eventually encounter enemies and kill them with your items/cards to earn victory points. It's basically a deck building game but not super autistic. Fun and easy.
do games even ever happen here? or does everyone just talk about playing games?
>>1122101There are 87 posters and 8 of them play games.
>>1122101What do you want to play? Don't say Four Souls.
>>1122101Host some bitch boy.
>>1122101Not at that hour, no
>>1122101>3:30 am>huh, where are the hostings
>>1122372>he isn't a NEET>>1122108That's a good point, even if you take dynamic IP into account there's a lot more posters than players
>>1122385>>That's a good point, even if you take dynamic IP into account there's a lot more posters than playersI just sit here and complain about no hosts every day while I refuse to host myself and never join a host
>>1122108Off the top of my head I can come up with 10 different anons including myself (no im not counting my alternate personalities trust me). And while my ip is always the same on PC, on phone I getva different one everytime, to the point I dont see (you)s on my previous phoneposts repliesAll this to say that you guys are probably exaggerating a little, the non-player posters are probably a ratio of 1:2 which isnt too bad
>>1122401Sorry I meant 1:1 ratio
Games?
>>1122413yes
You wanted variety? I give you variety, Pax Varietas. The new ones I learned on request are Pax Viking, summary here >>1119666 and Pax Porfiriana, a card game about the 1910 Mexican Revolution, still learning the finer details on this one but won't be a problem.Gimme a (You) if interested, need at least 3 people for either game, 4 would be ideal.
>>1122498Here's a good video about Porf btwhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43kJa53g_pY
>>1122498I'm interested about all of these paxesDid you take a look at Illuminatem too?I'm home in about... 2 hours and a half I guess, or less
>>1122511>Did you take a look at Illuminatem too?Not yet, yesterday I flipped a coin to choose to learn either it or Porfiriana, and Porfiriana won. I was more interested in Porf anyways because it was also designed by the Eklunds.I must say it looks very interesting, since we've played Ren and some of you have played Pamir, this one shouldn't be too hard to grok.
idk if its just me but tabletop simulator just feels unpleasant to use in generallike I load a new mod and in takes ages to load everything and I sometimes get a bunch of error in bright red that I can't get rid of, and also this might just be my pc but I feel the text and images look kind of blurry or distorted at certain distances. I hope someone comes up with something better eventually
>>1123019Is just for broken old mods. Also imgur killed everything without account, lot of mods are broken because of this.
>>1123019There are countless reasons for these, first being that the mod is propably just broken.Errors indicate either missing files, usually images with a dead source. And sometimes it's because you live in a place that has blocked the imagehoster.Blurry and distorted images are par for the course since most images are scanned in with whatever the modmaker had on hand. Or you just have the resolution set low.Just loading a couple obscure mods doesn't really tell you if the issues are with you or the mods, you sometimes gotta hunt through a bunch of them and then realize they all used the same images that are now gone for good.
>>1122372I have literally shown up here every hour and the thread has always been dead. It seems to only be alive right whenever I choose to log off.
>>1123290I dunno what to tell you, I play games with anons (albeit most of the time it's with the same 2-3 anons) about twice or thrice a weekNot everyone here is a neet or insomniac, try making a post saying that you want to host/join games in at least a vague time window in advance and see if theres any interest, dont expect replies right awaySpeaking of which, I have day off tomorrow and friday too, might host something
>>1123019>I hope someone comes up with something better eventuallyYou have no idea how much ive hoping for this since forever, for different issues (mostly Unity bullshit) but it's a niche hobby, likely will never happen
>>1123290Staying up for 60h can't be healthy for you anon, please go to sleep so we can play some board games
>>1123349Tabletop Playground was the ' something better' but the idiots decided to host mods in a proprietary third party site rather than the workshop.
>>1123290People in >>1120701 were playing for 7 hours straight. As the other anon said, of you want to play some games, host them
>>1123019>I hope someone comes up with something better eventuallyKDS soon, trust the plan
>>1122498(You) me for games. Doesn't have to be a Pax game but I've yet to try these 2 so they are priority in my to-play list.
Anything that isn't Pax?
>>1123382I wanted to host a couple of light, short games later today and then whoever wins picks the next game we playNamely CartographersThere's a teeny tiny catch to this, but don't worry about it
>>1123384Dont think I can join remotely today, I'll be there in 3 hours and a half
>>1123382As I said here, I doesn't have to be a Pax game.>>1123384>CartographersI learned that game long ago and totally forgot I wanted to host it, now I forgot the rules but they are really simple. Same thing with Lords of Vegas actually.
>>1123382why would you want that?
>>1123452Based Pax enjoyer
>>1123370(You)Ill be available in about an hour, probably less than that
>>1123465Neat, as I mentioned earlier, we'll need at the very least 3 to play one of the new Pax games. I'm editing the playspace of the Porfiriana mod in the meantime cuz it is way too little for cards.
anyone want to play a game? dune imperium, something something pamir, challengers?
>>1123479Finishing preparations, will open a lobby in about 20 minutes
>>1123485>challengersholy shit why would you even entertain the thought of suggesting that unironic garbage gamejust join us in the pax lobby, you mentioned pamir so you probably won't dislike the other paxes
>>1123511cool which pax? i need to watch a video.
>>1123479Lobby: /v/oard gamesPass: rage>>1123511Porfiriana is a lot like Pamir 1e from what I hear as well.>>1123514Looks like we'll be playing either Porfiriana or Viking, siding more with Porf, the tutorial here >>1122506 is really good, the game isn't as complicated as it looks.
>>11235153 people in lobby
>>1123511>why would you even entertain the thought of suggesting that unironic garbage gamejust join us in the unironic garbage game lobby
>>1123515starting in 15 minutes, teaching now.
>>1123530Begun with 4 players!
>>1123568It's over! Bernardo Reyes wins by revolting against Presidente DÃaz!GGs to everyone, what did you think of it? There is a lot to unpack and the cards are very hard to read from an aesthetic PoV, but I enjoyed it very much. There are still some edge cases I'm not so sure about if we played correctly (I avoided playing some cards just because I wasn't sure how to proceeed lol), but i'll get clear on those and definitely host it again sometime if there's demand for it. UNtil next time!
Since no wants to play challengers, how about tricktakers? i'm learning how to play and seems cool.
>>1123930I'm down to play this and Challengers despite it being bad lol. I'll be free in about 20 ish minutes?
>>1123958Tricktakers would need +2 players to be played well and me understand the game.i'm really bad at learning games sry.
>>1123961No worries pal, if we end up just being us 2, we could play some Sekigahara.
>>1123962sure we could try learning some stuff, together sry i'm not really up to learning something complicated like sekigahara today.
>>1123958>>1123930I'll play either
>>1123930>>1123987Neat, that makes 3 of us, ready whenever.>sry i'm not really up to learning something complicated like sekigahara todayWhat's cool about Seki is how simple it is, but no worries, we can play it another time.
>>1123994open the room buddy.

>>1124101GAMBULU
>>1124050Admit, you liked.
>>1124107I think this girl left a bad taste in my mouth with her wincon, but maybe we foolishly made it easy. I'll definitely give it a couple more tries before deciding I don't like it.
So did you guys actually play the shit game and experience firsthand how shitty it is or not? Also anyone up for anything in a couple hours?
>>1124254>So did you guys actually play the shit game and experience firsthand how shitty it is or not?Yes, there's a Pax lobby every few days
>>1124254>Also anyone up for anything in a couple hours?Yeah, I'm up
>>1124261>pax badshit taste detectedI obviously meant challengers
>>1124254Yeah, it was an absolute nothing of a game, at least it was short lol. Disappointed my excessive amount of fans by losing on the finals ;_;Not sure if I'll be available in a couple hours but if I am count me in, we still have Pax Viking (and illuminatem) left to explore but I also want to try Rajas of the Ganges again, and if you have one of those games I know and want me to teach 'em I'm up for that as well.
>>1124277>pax goodRetard detected
>>1124104>Nutbladderi miss fandubs
>>1124286>if you have one of those games I know and want me to teachWell I'd like to try terra mystica / project gaia, or caverna, or underwater citiesBut im up to try rajas too
Still thinking about tricktakers, this game is good.
>>1124302>terra mysticaLast civ clone we played was rather shite, so count me in for another one>gaiaAlso interested, but I'd have to refresh myself on the rulesIf the host doesn't overlap WORLD PREMIERE you can count me in
>>1124254>>1124272>>1124313Opening in... lets say 30 minsWe can decide what to play ince in the lobby, doesnt necessarily have to be one of the games i mentioned>>1124286You in?
>>1124326Room upth/v/rsday, rageYou know, i also wouldn't mind playing GWT or Concordia again
>>1124336We're starting Concordia with the Salsa expansion in the Byzantium map with 3 players
>>1124353GG WP.I confused yellow and red. so Red wins!
>>1124458damn, yellow/red raped everyone
>>1124458Could've waited for me to finish correcting the score, now it looks like I can't countSuch lack of respect towards fellow players
>>1124468lol what a fool LOL>>1124464If a card has the player's name on it there's nothing you can do against their impending victory.
the jotling in 2.5 hours
For the statistics anonFire in the Lake finishes after NVA/VC suffers critical morale loss (player capitulation). The campaign lasted 20.5 cards and hasn't seen a single AirstrikeAnother campaign around this time next week is planned, mainly to figure out if US will steamroll the game again
Hosting Jaws of the Lion! Now with an original soundtrack.Hey, remember the sewer mission, with the switch and sniper oozes and toilet snakes? Yeah, we're going deeper in.Room: /vm/ jotlPass: rage
>>1125271Oh, if anyone asks, we didn't fail
That looks more presentable. If anybody's up for some games in a couple hours hmu with a (You)
>>1125557played pax pamir yesterday, learning porfiriana really helped understand pamir. And i think pamir is a great evolution, the card design really help to understand the flow of the game.
Any games happening today?
>>1126125Great Western Trail with the Rails to the North expansion.>>1125608That's great to hear lad. I haven't played Pamir yet but I did hear it evolved from Porfiriana. Have you tried Renaissance?
>>1126125no
>>1126131What? When? Im not home for probably the next 5-6 hours or so
>>1126146>What? When? Was thinking of hosting in 1 hour or so. I still need to be paid the (You) tax though, would like to have 4 players
>>1126157Ah well too bad, ill miss it
I refreshed myself on Project Gaia rules if anyone still cares about that
>>1126178Maybe not. I didn't get (You)s, JoTL will start up soon, and I have to leave for a couple hours in a bit so when I come back maybe we get a quorum.

how do you learn a game that requires multiple people to play? do you guys really just get it from reading the rules or something? I'm afraid of playing with anons here and being a retard because I don't understand the game completely because I have no friends in real life that will play shitty board games with me
>>1126287>how do you learn a game that requires multiple people to play?Usually I'll just setup the game and play against myself, controlling 2+ players, it's a great way to learn the game because you can force yourself to do different strategies for each of your "players" and figure out edge cases and most importantly, understand how to win.>do you guys really just get it from reading the rules or something? Some games are super easy so you can understand them completely just from reading the manual yeah. I've played enough games now that I can do it for more complex games; there's always a how to play video that demonstrates the game for you as well.>I'm afraid of playing with anons here and being a retardWorry not my friend, we're all retards here. Feel free to join whatever lobby that's posted here and the host will gladly teach ya.
>>1126287Read the rules and acquire the arcane knowledge required to play the game, it's literally that easy.
>>1126157Alright, im home a bit earlier than anticipated, so if there's any game count me in
>>1126323Left home a couple minutes ago lol. I don't think I'll be home for another 2 or 3 hours. This anon >>1126223 refreshed himself on Gaia Project so he could teach ya instead of me. I'll host when I get back
>>1126287Define "learn"If it's just knowing how to play, which moves are allowed and which are illegal according to the rules, then just seeing the rulebook and the setup game is enough. Though if you're gonna be teaching, at least play the game yourself multihanded so you know how things interact. If you mean knowing all the strategies needed to be competitive in the game then all I'll say is figuring that out is the fun part of board games. Besides, most players here are very not competitive and a lot of games get hosted once and then never again. So you have nothing to worry about on this front
>>1126401>Though if you're gonna be teaching, at least play the game yourself multihanded so you know how things interactI refuse, everyone figuring things out as we go is fun and you retards don't do it often enough
>>1126443>everyone figuring things out as we go is fun and you retards don't do it often enoughYou would need too many things to happen all at once for that to ever be a thing here>Host finding a game he's so interested in he just needs to host it right away>Anons willing to join said host at the time the lobby opens>Patience
>>1126471>anons willing to join a gameAnd that's why it will never happen
>>1126258Look at that, success! We sewer dived further down, killed some funny eldritch monsters and found neat loot; 'twas fun.Oh, we also stopped chaos demons and the Void from devouring time, space and all that we hold dear, but that's neither here nor there..
Any late-night games?

>>1126443I was mostly talking about those times when two effects clash and the whole server takes 30 minutes to figure out which takes priority, if any. This shit really grinds my gears, and when i join I expect the host to know what's going on.
>>1126536If you can't figure it out in 5 minutes just make up rules on the spot about which takes precedence and check after a game, host issue
>>1126527I would love to play some GWT but it's too late, I need my sleep, anon. Please.Best of luck with the cow wrangling.
>>1126502Final call for GWT! Come now don't be scared, game is super easy!>>1126544No worries lad, we'll play together next time.

>>1126571Yeah it is, starting in 2 minutes!
>>1126574And so the game ends with Train strat beating Builder that would have won by 10 points if he had gotten 7 more cash, but that was impossible really. and the balanced strat.GG WP!
