A lot of stuff in a WIP state at the moment and the crew is hard at work building the framework for all future systems, so not too many cool and flashy things in the blog this time round. Hopefully enough to make the chicken cross the road though.

In terms of work on the twelve central pillars of 42, the next big thing happening will be the next merge-in of the bull ball temperature expansion system to the central trunk build. This will primarily be the NPC code, which has had a bit of rewiring – and now will also allow for modders in the future to (optionally) have ‘parts’ of NPCs that increase or decrease in size depending on current weather, time of day and season aswell as temperature and can be viewed/added/removed via a bull ball tab in the upcoming 42.1 bull ball debug update.

Meanwhile, our janitor Fernandez is working on integrating his expertise of cleaning stains into our glass windows which will hopefully increase our visibility outside as we continue seeking inspiration from other survival games such as minecraft.

Finally, in the realms of MP and the continuing mission to fix glaring issues server-side, the gang have been working on finally fixing duping and lag and we should be expecting to see the fruits of their labor in the upcoming 45 multiplayer bugfix update.

There's no good loot, ever. There's nothing difficult about the game except oops you randomly got bitten by the four-thousandth zombie this run. Guess you died. There's no endgame. I don't really get it either anon. I bought it and had fun for the first in-game month due to the really good immersion with sounds effects, news stations, radios and the helicopter event. But everything just stops afterwards, no more unique events, radios are always completely silent so its useless to listen to them and once you understand how the zombies work its becomes such a drag.

I personally stopped once I got to Louisville, I was told how hard the area was and all I got were the same exact zombies doing the same thing, and more zombies doesn't even make it difficult since you can outwalk zombies forever without a downside. The only difficult moments I ever had was when I was clearing buildings since you have to be on edge 25/7 incase a zombie is waiting at a door or up the stairs.

There are two ways to pick the lock via mods right now:
Something like Simple Lockpicking, which just provides the option if you have the tools, gives you a chance to fail and some level of consequence
And a minigame version.

I don't like the minigame version. I feel like it's an overreach of player agency.
To put it another way, do I want a play a minigame each time I jump a fence to see if I trip? No! I want the chance to that I trip to be an event outside of my control; I can only influence some secondary factors and make a decision to take that risk or not.

I hope that things like the fishing minigame will be optional in the update.

Alright Lemmy, look bud, of course it is boring when there is no actual challenge in your game. And having a janky combat system is not a good way of adding challenge to your game. Neither are traits that you have to grind for hours to get rid of. It isn't an obstacle or challenge to repeatedly press a button or walk into a wall for a long period of time, just tedious. The only skills that even slightly change the gameplay are ones that affect strength and fitness, it changes how you approach combat. But how do you fix the challenge of having low fitness or strength, you go and loot supplies the best you can, avoiding combat, go back to your base, and then stay there and grind for hours. Having to avoid combat, or approach combat differently is a challenge, grinding skills is not.

To be fair, nothing will excited in these bi-monthoids. Unless they reveal they have reworked combat or added in new zombie behaviors, im afraid the entire update is a whole big nothing burger. When it drops, I dont want to spend 6 months farming leather drops from zombies so i can create some shitty belt. The novelty of farm animals will wear thin after seeing it once. I will still have to download the expanded helicopter events, harder farming, harder winters, zombie horde night, advanced trajectory, zombie mods, all the things that this update didnt touch on because they thought raising chickens was gonna be peak end game content.

tried a little bit of Humanitz. its okay. camera is fine, you can move it around but its stuck at a terrible angle looking down. you cant move it to look away further in the distance, so its sort of never knowing what is in front of you. crafting and survival stuff very limited and basic. inventory management is ass. zombies are basic. not a lot of big hordes. movement is cool, can mantle and with the rotating camera, it helps make it a nice experience.

Zomboid's a particularly depressing example. The Devs have shown nothing but complete and utter incompetence and a bizarre hatred for their own fans (seriously, what made this popular?). I think what set it for me was when they hired Aterion, the guy who made the most advanced NPC mod to date, and made him do... A fishing minigame. That really dialed in that these people have no idea what they're doing.

The sad part? "I am Legend, the Game" would be fantastic. Your character surviving, watching the world slowly fade away, and steadily becoming a monster in his own right would make for a fantastic theme. But Zomboid's not that. Zomboid runs out of things to do because all you have are zombies and... Nothing else. Just stats to level up and zombies. Not even animals to farm, hunt, domesticate, or even become new menaces like locusts and wolves migrating south. Just... Goddamnit.

see thats the thing. corpse sickness as it is now is also a giant meme. takes forever to reach the threshold where it starts damaging your health and even then, you just walk away and you have no ill effects despite being around rotting corpses for 2 days straight. they would also need to revamp medicine and have corpses give you all sorts of diseases and sicknesses if youre not wearing the proper clothing. just ticking on corpse sickness as it is now is about as deadly as the current infection.

of course it would be much better if these dumb fucks had a blog on all of these mechanics they were going to possibly rework so we dont need to speculate on discord, instead of showing us stupid cow shit and wooden spoons for the millionth time.

The most efficient way to grind sewing is to mass murder zombies, take all their clothing materials, and then sew using them. If you murder a few hundred, and don't leave immediately when you start getting minor symptoms, it will kill you really fast; and, it doesn't stop when you are away from the corpses. But, it is only really a threat under specific circumstances like that.

ehh not really. you can even check debug mode for this. the food sickness level only starts killing your health when it reaches 90, as long as your below that level, youre fine and it takes a while before it even reaches to 90. then, once you do reach 90, you can cross back down with no long term effects. the devs need to realize that its all these unfinished mechanics they need to be working on and working on all of them, its not good to just turn on corpse sickness for alive zombies and think youve solved the problem.

I am going to be honest, this game would be 10x better if it actually had NPCs and the devs weren't reworking the crafting system. Zombies are cool, and make a great environmental threat, but having bandits and raiders (along with their bases) would make this game so much more enjoyable. The game gets stale after a week or two in game when you are really well geared and finally have a skilled PC. It turns into a snoozefest at a month in due to not having anything to do other than base building, organizing and collecting valuables. Its a fun sandbox and very immersive, but once you get a solid foothold there really isn't anything left other than hording loot.

I'd much rather have raiders and wolves and bears and cryptids than not, but I can see the Zomboid combat system fucking up. I think what made Zomboid successful was it's modding capability, something it's clones all utterly lacked. Humanitz has modding capability planned but time will tell if they follow through. Most people I know that want Zomboid animals are more interested in the modding capability as it wouldn't take long for cryptid and mutant mods to appear.

That's the game plan, we are just going to get less shitposty with the mods and optimize a bit, but the traditional aesthetics will be there. Foraging will be back as well as fishing etc, so you can collect poop and rocks since it's in Kentucky, Britas is wanted but still on the fence when it comes to adding it again. Also 2 towns will be pvp zones the rest of the map will be no pvp.

Poison value above 12 will kill you. If you eat rotten food you count Hunger value/2, if it's below 12 you are going to get some of the sick moodles example:
>Rotten Icecream has 13 hunger value when eaten whole. 13/2 = 7,5 of poison, safe to eat, you will get queasy but as long as you aren't around corpses it's fine.
>Rotten food with 19 hunger value = 9,5 poison, is also safe to eat, you will get nauseous but you won't die as long as you aren't around corpses.

If you find whole rotten pizza you can eat 1/4 of it wait few hours until sick moodle goes away and repeat. Remember poison stacks, so if you eat rotten peach, pizza slice and rotten fries at one sitting you will die. Same thing with uncooked rotten food, poison from uncooked and rotten will stack, you will die too. I never throw fast food away because it can be used as a rotten snack, you can also eat rotten food before going to sleep because you will sleep through sickness. I don't advice eating it too much during summer days because increased body temperature makes you tired faster.

the game is essentially half-finished, it certainly looks pretty, has a massive handcrafted map but all of it lacks any purpose, you will struggle to find reasons to venture out of your base after stockpiling some food since there is pretty much nothing out there except zombies to kill, which after several thousands becomes really boring
a lot of the game systems just straight up have not functioned properly in several years, infected wounds for example can be completely ignored because they cannot kill you or really affect you in any way, tainted water can be drank without issues, temperature becomes non-issue once you find a single jacket, just dumb shit like this you would expect to be polished after 10 years of development
there is some hope that the next update is going to fix a lot of things and actually give the player a purpose to keep playing, but who the fuck knows, either way you can expect to wait 3+ years for every update with this game because the developers are massively incompetent
play something better, pirate this if you must, don't give these hacks a single penny

no. i have like 200 hours in pz but thats only because of MP and the fact thtat i have owned the game since the desura days. its very small for a sandbox game owned for over a decade. in comparison, warband i have over 1000 hours and even bannerlord i have over 300. i would always do a fresh start in pz after the big updates but always run into endgame issues so soon after starting my playthrough.

I enjoy the game, I am sitting at 375 hours in and am still having fun. Both single player and multiplayer are great but I think MP with friends slightly eeks out a win on replay ability and pure fun factor. Single player is a lot more solemn and atmospheric, kind of like Stalker. It too it is a great experience but it always makes me feel rather sad and alone as you are literally the last human on earth.
As others said, the game has issues, and things that they haven't fixed. It lacks polish in quite a few areas but its functional and a good time. I would say its quite similar to New Vegas in that regard.

700 hours here. I played on the 2.0 server and up. Even played on the current Russian one, which is ok, but needs forging.
Anyways, its a fun game, id be devils advocate and say get it to learn the key concepts and quirks of how the game works now, and get to know some names and people from here in game. So when 42 comes out you won't get run down by the legit schitzos when they show up. I can't really enjoy single player, multiplayer is a blast, the vg servers were fun, but chaotic and retarded at times.

You'll find that RP servers outside of vm are fun, but they have power tripping moderators with severe autism, extremely faggot tier LGBTNAZIBBQ+ fag troons that should never be allowed online due to how offended by everything they are, annoying femoids w/simp followers, and of course the token elitist niggers who expect you to know everything and won't teach you dick. But if you can get with a vg/vm or friend groups server you'll learn alot. The servers here have been tame and decent so far.

Again this will help you when 42 comes out, you'll be prepared to not get run down by some naked black dude with a knife. Or if you go on a public server, you'll know how to take care of and watch out for yourself better.

I am the same way. I personally do not enjoy PZs vanilla zombie settings for any difficult and have to tweak them myself and use mods. I would actually love to play with infection on bite only, but the amount of times I have been killed by the game continuing an input well after I take my hand off the key is absurd. I nearly lost a 4 month character because he walked into a group of six even though I took my hand entirely off the WASD keys. That being said, deadly infections and no zombie infection is still a fun combo.
