I've got a problem with my pawns, if they ever need to go somewhere they can't directly see they just won't path to it, instead just standing still.
Even if I draft them I have to guide them round the smallest obstacle otherwise they will just stay put.
I'm assuming this is some issue from a mod that affects pathing but I don't know which one that would be as I haven't installed any recently.
I'm playing on a large map so could that be the case?

how do I stop gravitating towards the same colony/colonists every single time I play?
it's always transhumanist technophiles, le heckin evil reddit raiders, or "fuck off we're full" underground preppers, and it's tiresome

do you guys go into each colony with an idea in mind, or just play it out and see where the chips fall? I usually have a goal or idea which I think is holding me back, but I end up getting choice paralysis (or worse, I just metagame) otherwise

Have you actually tried sitting down and thinking about what you want to do for longer than 10 minutes?
Come on, you surely have some grand ideas or plans. What about books/novels/mangas you've read or movies/series/animes you've watched? Tried mixing any ideas that you found fun? Anything that could inspire you to do a themed colony? Don't you daydream about various stuff that you could use as a colony idea? I know RimWorld is pretty limited but you have devmode which you could use for story/theme reasons or mods that allow you to edit world/factions/races/items/buildings etc.

Both. I go with an idea in mind but adjust to the enviroment
For this playthrough i'm doing i actually thought my old Champion would survive this mess and play a way larger role in the game but he died literally tanking hail of fire for his friends while also taking a few melee monsters down with him
You probably shouldn't start out with an extremely detailed plan as it can take away alot from fun which i noticed with pre-planned bases, but you should have general idea on what the theme will be about and force yourself to act like people in your colony would behave in given situation

That means that sooner or later any "style" of colony will have to make way and get suplanted by the most powerful armours, weapons, most efficient killbox and industrial tier disposal of the raid remains etc.

I do agree that you'll hit your peak with armour sets and weapons eventually, but if your whole theme crumbles becouse you've reached the end game in terms of security then that's a critical theme flaw rather than absolute peak in possible ideas that you could execute

Becouse CE unironically makes the game more rigid
Yes, it's arguably a better combat simulation but it is why it's even more rigid that let's say Yayo's Combat. If you want to survive, you HAVE TO USE x weapons with x ammo in order to defeat your enemies, where in Yayo's you have only the Armor pen% and Armor def% to care about, meaning you can use all sorts of cool weapons from various mods as long as they meet the Armor pen%, which in most cases they do

CAI 5000 is a good mod in general, makes the raids hard for sure but it's getting more and more annoying.
A major problem that the mod has, i noticed, is that if you secure your entire base from every side (pic related) then the AI will just shit itself and stand in place after initial preperation. They'll start moving again if you open some gate/door that they can go through.
The worst experiance i had with it was the AI constantly changing which side it wants to attack from, staying in cover during all their movement and i spent half a goddamn day shuffling my colonists in and out of draft to not have a colony-wide mental breakdown untill the raid was finally dealt with
As for the fog of war option in it, considering the previous flaw, i think i'd tear all my hair out trying in anger rather than have a great time with it

What are the best landforms for a tunneler colony without completely removing any challenge?
Caldera felt a bit too open and rift is way too easy to defend. Ideally I'd want something with a good amount of mountain coverage but at least one side fully open.
Basically I just want the exact opposite of a cliff map.

I don't actually disagree with this. Scouting parties ahead of raids that you can intercept would be neat, with any subsequent raids cancelled, diminished or even intensified depending on the faction's demeanour, your relative tech levels and your current relations.
With your point about fortifications, maybe that could also depend on tech level. Walls and spikes would tell tribals that you have something worth guarding but tell outlanders not to bother.
Gun turrets and mines might have the opposite effect, dissuading tribals entirely while telling outlanders that you probably have some tech or guns stashed away.
This wouldn't be hard and fast, tribals could still raid a high-tech base if they're desperate and outlanders could see a tribe as an easy target.

Here's an example. The more they disagree on said thing, the more -opinion they'll recieve with each other. That said, if people agree with each other, they'll recive a +opinion with each other
So in summary, it adds more realism to the game/depth to the game. Can make absolute archnemesis or bromance
It also adds a real cool opinion modifier based on how many years colonists spend with each other, capping at +20 for 5+ years spent with each other

If you want to run a hotel, restaurant or BnB, sure. It also adds one new recruitment method, making getting special race recruits easier, although Ideology ritual rewards are better for that now. Hospitality is real moneymaker, since it allows you to turn low value food into hard, cold silver and sell useless scraps to boot. Also check out the Tenants mod.

what is a bit of a problem is that I had enough steel to build a stove and research table but that's it, I'm left with 3 pieces with no way to get more for now, and I can't even build a stonecutter table, so all I have for resources are some very limited trees
but that's part of the fun

If your talking about Mount and Blade Warband, that has armies scale in size to your level plus it actually tracks all that information. I fail to see a better solution with how tacked on the map and faction mechanics have been in Rimworld. A lot of mods try to address this by adding on stuff like a limiter on enemy count or a equation to calculate how long it would take get there but that's just a bandaid on the fact that faction settlements don't track meaningful data.

max possible army size is based on the characters skills not yours, bandits however scale to yours alone with invading armies in mods. Bannerlord takes it a step further and gives everyone cash and the kingdom cash, which warband technically does but they cheat so hard with money its basically useless to try and get them to not have their max army and instead its based on the amount of castles/towns they own. Didnt read any of the rest, dont really care about what he says either but in theory at least the enemy armies shouldnt scale off your level. I think there is a minor buff based on renown but they scale of their own renown so much harder it doesnt matter, late game their renown will be high enough that your minor 50 renown per +1 to their army will be dawrfed by the +1 per 3 they get from their own and they cant even field that many unless theyre the king of their kingdom anyway who can never afford more than peasants and like 1/10 of their army as free special troops

I tried getting it to work with FA Experimental but it changes the texture paths so Oskarware doesn't override them and you end up with anime snouts/shading with mismatching faces. Yeah...from the biomes caverns mod. Specifically this was in the fungal forest biome. I can't remember but I think I did try making an artificial room for them to grow in. I never tried editing the roof though, but I do think confusion about whether they're inside is the essence of the issue and it's also related to the slowdown from pawns sleeping "outside". So I stopped playing for awhile because of the new DLC. Considering restarting work on my unigan mod, or another mod. Been curious about trying to create a monogendered species with high genetic drift and short lifespan using RJW to create a race that's ideal for rapidly colonizing and creating a sustainable population. Does the new DLC help with this?

The nude archery club managed to bag 3 muffalo together. Petra spent hours upon hours cooking it up over a campfire for everyone who patiently waited in line for food despite the pits in their collective stomachs.

Without CE I can help you. Issue with both CE and SOS2 are both mods constantly updated with their codes changing so expecting them to be compatible is a nightmare. SOS2 projectiles just got rewritten and probably will be rewritten again and again whenever Owl discovers a new way to optimize shit.

I just use Rimsenal Core, Prestige Specialist, Vali, etc.

I use Rimmsqol to modify some recipes and values (like removing mortar shell from Torpedo recipe and bump the resource cost up to reduce extra crafting process). Also Armor Rack to have the crew quickly switch between EVA and non-EVA with a button, it runs well with RPG Inventory and Composite Loadout.
